গালাতীয় 4
1 যা আমি বলতে চাইছি, তা হল, উত্তরাধিকারী যতদিন শিশু থাকে, সে সমস্ত সম্পত্তির অধিকারী হলেও, ক্রীতদাসের সঙ্গে তার কোনও পার্থক্য থাকে না।
Now I say, As long as the heir is a child, he differs nothing from a bondman, though he be lord of all;
2 তার বাবা যে সময় নির্দিষ্ট করে দিয়েছেন, সেই সময় পর্যন্ত সে অভিভাবক ও প্রতিপালকদের তত্ত্বাবধানে থাকে।
but he is under guardians and stewards until the period fixed by the father.
3 একইভাবে, আমরা যখন শিশু ছিলাম, আমরা জগতের বিভিন্ন রীতিনীতির অধীনে ক্রীতদাস ছিলাম।
So we also, when we were children, were held in bondage under the principles of the world;
4 কিন্তু সময় যখন সম্পূর্ণ হল, ঈশ্বর তাঁর পুত্রকে পাঠালেন; তিনি এক নারী থেকে জন্ম নিলেন, বিধানের অধীনে জন্মগ্রহণ করলেন,
but when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, come of woman, come under law,
5 যেন যারা বিধানের অধীন তাদের মুক্তিপণ দিয়ে মুক্ত করেন এবং আমরা পুত্র হওয়ার পূর্ণ অধিকার লাভ করি।
that he might redeem those under law, that we might receive sonship.
6 যেহেতু আমরা পুত্র, তাই ঈশ্বর তাঁর পুত্রের আত্মাকে আমাদের হৃদয়ে পাঠালেন, যে আত্মা “আব্বা, পিতা” বলে ডেকে ওঠেন।
But because ye are sons, God has sent out the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
7 তাই তোমরা আর ক্রীতদাস নও, কিন্তু পুত্র; আর যেহেতু তোমরা পুত্র, ঈশ্বর তোমাদের উত্তরাধিকারীও করেছেন।
So thou art no longer bondman, but son; but if son, heir also through God.
8 আগে তোমরা যখন ঈশ্বরকে জানতে না, তোমরা তাদেরই দাসত্ব করতে, যারা প্রকৃতপক্ষে দেবতা নয়।
But then indeed, not knowing God, ye were in bondage to those who by nature are not gods;
9 কিন্তু এখন, যেহেতু তোমরা ঈশ্বরকে জানো—বা সঠিক বলতে গেলে, তোমরাই ঈশ্বরের দ্বারা পরিচিত হয়েছ—তাহলে, কী করে তোমরা ওইসব দুর্বল ও ঘৃণ্য নীতিগুলির প্রতি ফিরে যাচ্ছ? তোমরা কি আবার ফিরে গিয়ে সেসবের দ্বারা দাসত্বে আবদ্ধ হতে চাও?
but now, knowing God, but rather being known by God, how do ye turn again to the weak and beggarly principles to which ye desire to be again anew in bondage?
10 তোমরা বিশেষ বিশেষ দিন, মাস, ঋতু ও বছর পালন করছ!
Ye observe days and months and times and years.
11 তোমাদের জন্য আমার ভয় হয়, হয়তো আমি তোমাদের মধ্যে ব্যর্থ পরিশ্রম করেছি।
I am afraid of you, lest indeed I have laboured in vain as to you.
12 ভাই ও বোনেরা, আমি তোমাদের অনুরোধ করছি, তোমরা আমার মতো হও, কারণ আমি তোমাদের মতো হয়েছি। তোমরা আমার প্রতি কোনো অন্যায় করোনি।
Be as I [am], for I also [am] as ye, brethren, I beseech you: ye have not at all wronged me.
13 যেমন তোমরা জানো, আমি অসুস্থ ছিলাম, যখন প্রথমবার তোমাদের কাছে সুসমাচার প্রচার করেছিলাম।
But ye know that in weakness of the flesh I announced the glad tidings to you at the first;
14 যদিও আমার অসুস্থতা তোমাদের কাছে পরীক্ষার কারণস্বরূপ ছিল, তোমরা আমার সঙ্গে ঘৃণ্য ও অবজ্ঞাসুলভ আচরণ করোনি। বরং তোমরা আমাকে যেন ঈশ্বরের এক দূতের মতো, স্বয়ং খ্রীষ্ট যীশুর মতো মনে করে স্বাগত জানিয়েছিলে।
and my temptation, which [was] in my flesh, ye did not slight nor reject with contempt; but ye received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus.
15 তোমাদের সেইসব আনন্দের কী হল? আমি সাক্ষ্য দিতে পারি যে, সম্ভব হলে, তোমরা নিজের নিজের চোখদুটি উপড়ে নিয়ে আমাকে দিতে!
What then [was] your blessedness? for I bear you witness that, if possible, plucking out your own eyes ye would have given [them] to me.
16 সত্যিকথা বলার জন্য আমি কি এখন তোমাদের শত্রু হয়েছি?
So I have become your enemy in speaking the truth to you?
17 ওইসব লোক তোমাদের জয় করার জন্য আগ্রহী হয়েছে, কিন্তু কোনো ভালো উদ্দেশ্যে নয়। তারা যা চায় তা হল আমাদের কাছ থেকে তোমাদের দূরে সরিয়ে দিতে, যেন তোমরা ওদের প্রতি আগ্রহী হয়ে ওঠো।
They are not rightly zealous after you, but desire to shut you out [from us], that ye may be zealous after them.
18 কেবলমাত্র তোমাদের মধ্যে যখন উপস্থিত থাকি তখন নয়, কিন্তু সব সময়ের জন্য সঠিক উদ্দেশ্য নিয়ে আগ্রহী হওয়া ভালো।
But [it is] right to be zealous at all times in what is right, and not only when I am present with you —
19 আমার প্রিয় সন্তানেরা তোমাদের জন্য আমি আবার প্রসবযন্ত্রণা ভোগ করছি, যতক্ষণ না তোমরা খ্রীষ্টের মতো হও।
my children, of whom I again travail in birth until Christ shall have been formed in you:
20 আমার এমন ইচ্ছা হচ্ছে যে, আমি যদি এখনই তোমাদের কাছে যেতে ও অন্য স্বরে কথা বলতে পারতাম! কারণ আমি তোমাদের নিয়ে যে কী করব তা বুঝতে পারছি না!
and I should wish to be present with you now, and change my voice, for I am perplexed as to you.
21 তোমরা যারা বিধানের অধীনে থাকতে চাও, আমাকে বলো তো, বিধান যা বলে, তা কি তোমরা জানো না?
Tell me, ye who are desirous of being under law, do ye not listen to the law?
22 কারণ লেখা আছে, অব্রাহামের দুই পুত্র ছিল, একজন ক্রীতদাসীর, অন্যজন স্বাধীন নারীর।
For it is written that Abraham had two sons; one of the maid servant, and one of the free woman.
23 ক্রীতদাসী নারীর দ্বারা তাঁর পুত্রের জন্ম হয়েছিল স্বাভাবিক উপায়ে, কিন্তু স্বাধীন নারীর দ্বারা তাঁর পুত্রের জন্ম হয়েছিল এক প্রতিশ্রুতির ফলস্বরূপে।
But he [that was] of the maid servant was born according to flesh, and he [that was] of the free woman through the promise.
24 এসব বিষয় রূপক অর্থে গ্রহণ করা যেতে পারে, কারণ ওই দুজন নারী দুটি চুক্তির প্রতীকস্বরূপ। একটি চুক্তি সীনয় পর্বত থেকে, তা ক্রীতদাস হওয়ার জন্য সন্তানদের জন্ম দেয়। এ হল হাগার।
Which things have an allegorical sense; for these are two covenants: one from mount Sinai, gendering to bondage, which is Hagar.
25 এখন হাগার হল আরবে স্থিত সীনয় পর্বতের প্রতীক এবং বর্তমানের জেরুশালেম নগরীর সঙ্গে সংগতিপূর্ণ, কারণ সে তার সন্তানদের নিয়ে দাসত্ববন্ধনে আবদ্ধ আছে।
For Hagar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which [is] now, for she is in bondage with her children;
26 কিন্তু ঊর্ধ্বে স্থিত জেরুশালেম স্বাধীন, সে আমাদের প্রকৃত মা।
but the Jerusalem above is free, which is our mother.
27 কারণ লেখা আছে, “ওহে বন্ধ্যা নারী, যে কখনও সন্তান প্রসব করোনি, আনন্দিত হও; তোমরা কখনও প্রসবযন্ত্রণা ভোগ করোনি, আনন্দোল্লাসে ফেটে পড়ো; কারণ যার স্বামী আছে, সেই নারীর চেয়ে, যে নারী পরিত্যক্তা, তার সন্তান বেশি।”
For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break out and cry, thou that travailest not; because the children of the desolate are more numerous than [those] of her that has a husband.
28 এখন ভাইবোনেরা, তোমরা ইস্হাকের মতো প্রতিশ্রুতির সন্তান।
But ye, brethren, after the pattern of Isaac, are children of promise.
29 সেই সময়, স্বাভাবিক উপায়ে জাত পুত্র, ঈশ্বরের আত্মার পরাক্রমে জাত পুত্রকে নির্যাতন করত। তেমনই এখনও হচ্ছে।
But as then he that was born according to flesh persecuted him [that was born] according to Spirit, so also [it is] now.
30 কিন্তু শাস্ত্র কী বলে? “সেই ক্রীতদাসী ও তার ছেলেকে তাড়িয়ে দাও, কারণ সেই স্বাধীন নারীর সম্পত্তির অধিকারে ওই মহিলার ছেলে কখনোই ভাগ বসাবে না।”
But what says the scripture? Cast out the maid servant and her son; for the son of the maid servant shall not inherit with the son of the free woman.
31 অতএব ভাইবোনেরা, আমরা ক্রীতদাসীর সন্তান নই, কিন্তু সেই স্বাধীন নারীর সন্তান।
So then, brethren, we are not maid servant's children, but [children] of the free woman.
