1 তারপর উঁচু স্বরে তাঁকে বলতে শুনলাম, “নগরের বিচার করার জন্য যারা নিযুক্ত তাদের কাছে নিয়ে এসো, প্রত্যেকে হাতে অস্ত্র নিয়ে আসুক।”
Then cried he in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Draw near ye that have charge of the city, -even every man with his weapon of destruction in his hand.
2 আর আমি ছ-জন লোককে উপরের দরজার দিক দিয়ে আসতে দেখলাম, যেটির মুখ উত্তর দিকে ছিল, প্রত্যেকের হাতে মারাত্মক অস্ত্র ছিল। তাদের সঙ্গে ছিলেন মসিনা কাপড় পরা একজন লোক আর তাঁর কোমরের পাশে ছিল লেখালেখির সরঞ্জাম। তারা এসে ব্রোঞ্জের বেদির পাশে দাঁড়ালেন।
And lo! six men coming in out of the way of the upper gate which looketh toward the north even every man with his destructive weapon in his hand, and one man in their midst clothed with linen, having a scribe’s ink holder by his side, —so they came in and stood beside the altar of bronze.
3 তখন ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বরের যে মহিমা করূবের উপর ছিল তা সেখান থেকে উঠে উপাসনা গৃহের চৌকাঠের কাছে গেল। সদাপ্রভু মসিনার কাপড় পরা সেই লোকটিকে ডাকলেন, যাঁর কোমরের পাশে লেখালেখির সরঞ্জাম ছিল
And the glory of the God of Israel lifted itself up from off the cherub whereon it had been, unto the threshold of the house, —and he called unto the man clothed with linen, who had the scribe’s ink holder by his side.
4 আর তাঁকে বললেন, “তুমি জেরুশালেম নগরের মধ্যে দিয়ে যাও এবং তার মধ্যে যেসব ঘৃণ্য কাজ হচ্ছে সেইজন্য যারা শোক ও বিলাপ করছে তাদের কপালে একটি করে চিহ্ন দাও।”
Then said Yahweh unto him. Pass along through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, —and set thou a mark upon the foreheads of the men who are sighing and crying over all the abominations that are being done in her midst.
5 আমি যখন শুনছিলাম, তিনি অন্যদের বললেন, “তোমরা নগরের মধ্যে ওর পিছনে পিছনে যাও এবং কোনও মায়ামমতা না দেখিয়ে লোকদের মেরে ফেলতে থাকো, কাউকে রেহাই দিয়ো না।
But unto these, said he in mine ears, Pass along through the city after him and smite, —let not your eye, shield, neither have ye pity:
6 বুড়ো, যুবক, যুবতী, স্ত্রীলোকদের ও ছোটো ছেলেমেয়েদের মেরে ফেলো, কিন্তু যাদের চিহ্ন আছে তাদের ছুঁয়ো না। আমার উপাসনা গৃহ থেকে শুরু করো।” তাতে তারা মন্দিরের সামনে প্রাচীন লোকদের দিয়ে শুরু করল।
elder, young man and virgin and little ones and women, shall ye slay utterly, but unto any man who hath upon him the mark, do not ye come near, and at my sanctuary, shall ye begin. So they began with the elder men. who were before the house.
7 তারপর তিনি তাদের বললেন, “যাও! মন্দির অশুচি করো এবং নিহত লোকদের দিয়ে প্রাঙ্গণ ভরে ফেলো।” তাতে তারা নগরের মধ্যে গিয়ে লোকদের মেরে ফেলতে লাগলেন।
And he said unto them Defile ye the house and fill the courts with the slain, —go ye forth! So they went forth and smote in the city.
8 তারা যখন হত্যা করছিলেন আর আমি একা ছিলাম তখন আমি উপুড় হয়ে পড়ে কাঁদলাম আর বললাম, “হায়, সার্বভৌম সদাপ্রভু! জেরুশালেমের উপরে তোমার ক্রোধ ঢেলে দিয়ে তুমি কি ইস্রায়েলের বাকি সবাইকে ধ্বংস করে ফেলবে?”
And it came to pass, while they were smiting them—I being left remaining, that I fell upon my face and made outcry, and said Alas! My Lord. Yahweh art thou about to destroy all the remnant of Israel, in that thou art pouring out of thine indignation upon Jerusalem?
9 তিনি উত্তরে আমাকে বললেন, “ইস্রায়েল ও যিহূদা কুলের পাপ অত্যন্ত ভয়ানক; দেশ রক্তপাতে ভরা এবং নগরটি অবিচারে ডুবে গেছে। তারা বলে, ‘সদাপ্রভু দেশ ত্যাগ করেছেন; সদাপ্রভু আমাদের দেখেন না।’
And he said unto me the iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah, is exceeding, great, and the land is filled with shed blood, and the city is full of over-reaching, —for they have said. Yahweh hath forsaken the land, — and Yahweh doth not see.
10 সেইজন্য আমি তাদের প্রতি করুণা দেখাব না অথবা ক্ষমা করব না, কিন্তু তারা যা করেছে তার ফল আমি তাদের উপর ঢেলে দেব।”
Therefore as for even me, Mine eye shall not shield. Neither will I pity, — Their way upon their own head, have I rendered.
11 তখন মসিনা কাপড় পরা সেই লোকটি যার কোমরের কাছে লেখালেখির সরঞ্জাম ছিল তিনি এই খবর দিলেন, “আপনি যেমন আদেশ দিয়েছিলেন আমি সেই অনুসারে কাজ করেছি।”
And lo! the man clothed in linen, having the ink-holder by his side, bringing back word saying, — I have done according to all which thou didst command me.
