1 সদাপ্রভুর বাক্য আমার কাছে উপস্থিত হল:
The worde of the Lord came vnto me againe, saying,
2 “ইস্রায়েল দেশ সম্বন্ধে প্রচলিত প্রবাদটি উদ্ধৃত করার দ্বারা লোকেরা কী অর্থ প্রকাশ করে: “‘বাবারা টক আঙুর খেয়েছিলেন, আর সন্তানদের দাঁত টকে গেছে’?
What meane ye that ye speake this prouerbe, concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers haue eaten sowre grapes, and the childrens teeth are set on edge?
3 “আমার জীবনের দিব্য, সার্বভৌম সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন, তোমরা এই প্রবাদ ইস্রায়েলে আর বলবে না।
As I liue, sayth the Lord God, ye shall vse this prouerbe no more in Israel.
4 জীবিত সব লোকই আমার, বাবা ও সন্তান উভয়ই আমার। যে পাপ করবে সেই মরবে।
Beholde, all soules are mine, both the soule of the father, and also the soule of the sonne are mine: the soule that sinneth, it shall die.
5 “মনে করো, একজন ধার্মিক লোক আছে যে ন্যায় ও ঠিক কাজ করে।
But if a man be iust, and doe that which is lawfull, and right,
6 সে পাহাড়ের উপরের কোনো পূজার স্থানে খাওয়াদাওয়া করে না কিংবা ইস্রায়েলীদের কোনো প্রতিমার পূজা করে না। সে তার প্রতিবেশীর স্ত্রীকে কলুষিত করে না কিংবা ঋতুমতী স্ত্রীলোকের সঙ্গে মিলিত হয় না।
And hath not eaten vpon the mountaines, neither hath lift vp his eyes to the idoles of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbours wife, neither hath lyen with a menstruous woman,
7 সে কারও উপরে অত্যাচার করে না, বরং ঋণীকে বন্ধকি জিনিস ফিরিয়ে দেয়। সে চুরি করে না কিন্তু যাদের খিদে পেয়েছে তাদের খাবার দেয় এবং উলঙ্গদের কাপড় দেয়।
Neither hath oppressed any, but hath restored the pledge to his dettour: he that hath spoyled none by violence, but hath giuen his bread to the hungry, and hath couered the naked with a garment,
8 সে সুদে টাকা ধার দেয় না কিংবা বাড়তি সুদ নেয় না। সে অন্যায় করা থেকে হাত সরিয়ে রাখে ও লোকদের মধ্যে ন্যায়ভাবে বিচার করে।
And hath not giuen foorth vpon vsurie, neither hath taken any increase, but hath withdrawen his hand from iniquitie, and hath executed true iudgement betweene man and man,
9 সে আমার নিয়মকানুন মেনে চলে ও বিশ্বস্তভাবে আমার বিধান পালন করে। সেই লোক ধার্মিক; সে নিশ্চয় বাঁচবে, এই কথা সার্বভৌম সদাপ্রভু বলেন।
And hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my iudgements to deale truely, he is iust, he shall surely liue, sayth the Lord God.
10 “মনে করো যদি সেই লোকের এক হিংস্র ছেলে আছে, যে রক্তপাত করে অথবা এগুলির মধ্যে যে কোনও একটি করে
If he beget a sonne, that is a thiefe, or a sheader of blood, if he do any one of these things,
11 (যদিও তার বাবা এর কোনোটিই করেনি), “সে পাহাড়ের উপরের পূজার স্থানগুলিতে খাওয়াদাওয়া করে। সে তার প্রতিবেশীর স্ত্রীকে কলুষিত করে।
Though he doe not all these things, but either hath eaten vpon the mountaines, or defiled his neighbours wife,
12 সে গরিব ও অভাবীদের উপর অত্যাচার করে। সে চুরি করে। সে বন্ধকি জিনিস ফিরিয়ে দেয় না। সে মূর্তির প্রতি দৃষ্টিপাত করে। সে ঘৃণ্য কাজ করে।
Or hath oppressed the poore and needy, or hath spoyled by violence, or hath not restored the pledge, or hath lift vp his eyes vnto the idoles, or hath committed abomination,
13 সে সুদে টাকা ধার দেয় ও বাড়তি সুদ নেয়। সেই লোক কি বাঁচবে? সে বাঁচবে না! কারণ সে এসব ঘৃণ্য কাজ করেছে, সে মরবেই মরবে এবং তার মৃত্যুর জন্য সে নিজেই দায়ী হবে।
Or hath giuen forth vpon vsurie, or hath taken increase, shall he liue? he shall not liue: seeing he hath done all these abominations, he shall die the death, and his blood shall be vpon him.
14 “কিন্তু মনে করো এই ছেলের একটি ছেলে আছে যে তার বাবাকে এসব পাপ করতে দেখেছে, এবং যদিও সেসব দেখেও সে তা করে না:
But if he beget a sonne, that seeth all his fathers sinnes, which he hath done, and feareth, neither doeth such like,
15 “সে পাহাড়ের উপরের পূজার স্থানগুলিতে খাওয়াদাওয়া করে না কিংবা ইস্রায়েলীদের কোনও প্রতিমার পূজা করে না। সে তার প্রতিবেশীর স্ত্রীকে কলুষিত করে না।
That hath not eaten vpon the mountaines, neither hath lift vp his eyes to the idols of ye house of Israel, nor hath defiled his neighbours wife,
16 সে কারও উপরে অত্যাচার করে না কিংবা ঋণীকে বন্ধকি জিনিস ফিরিয়ে দেয়। সে চুরি করে না কিন্তু যাদের খিদে পেয়েছে তাদের খাবার দেয় এবং উলঙ্গদের কাপড় দেয়।
Neither hath oppressed any, nor hath withholden the pledge, neither hath spoyled by violence, but hath giuen his bread to the hungry, and hath couered the naked with a garment,
17 সে গরিবদের প্রতি খারাপ ব্যবহার করা থেকে বিরত থাকে এবং সে সুদে টাকা ধার দেয় না কিংবা বাড়তি সুদ নেয় না। সে আমার নিয়মকানুন মেনে চলে ও আমার বিধান পালন করে। সে তার বাবার পাপের জন্য মরবে না; সে নিশ্চয় বাঁচবে।
Neither hath withdrawen his hand from the afflicted, nor receiued vsurie nor increase, but hath executed my iudgements, and hath walked in my statutes, he shall not die in the iniquitie of his father, but he shall surely liue.
18 কিন্তু তার বাবা নিজের পাপের জন্য মরবে, কারণ সে জোর করে টাকা আদায় করত, ভাইয়ের জিনিস চুরি করত এবং তার লোকদের মধ্যে অন্যায় কাজ করত।
His father, because he cruelly oppressed and spoyled his brother by violence, and hath not done good among his people, loe, euen he dyeth in his iniquitie.
19 “তবুও তোমরা বলছ, ‘বাবার দোষের জন্য কেন ছেলে শাস্তি পাবে না?’ যেহেতু সেই ছেলে তো ন্যায় ও ঠিক কাজ করেছে এবং যত্নের সঙ্গে আমার নিয়ম পালন করেছে, তাই সে নিশ্চয় বাঁচবে।
Yet say ye, Wherefore shall not the sonne beare the iniquitie of the father? because ye sonne hath executed iudgement and iustice, and hath kept all my statutes, and done them, he shall surely liue,
20 যে পাপ করবে সেই মরবে। ছেলে বাবার দোষের জন্য শাস্তি পাবে না আর বাবাও ছেলের দোষের জন্য শাস্তি পাবে না। ধার্মিক ধার্মিকতার ফল পাবে আর দুষ্ট দুষ্টতার ফল পাবে।
The same soule that sinneth, shall die: the sonne shall not beare the iniquitie of the father, neither shall the father beare the iniquitie of the sonne, but the righteousnes of the righteous shall be vpon him, and the wickednesse of the wicked shall be vpon him selfe.
21 “কিন্তু যদি একজন দুষ্টলোক তার সব পাপ থেকে ফিরে আমার নিয়ম সকল পালন করে আর ন্যায় ও ঠিক কাজ করে তবে সে নিশ্চয়ই বাঁচবে; সে মরবে না।
But if the wicked will returne from all his sinnes that he hath committed, and keepe all my statutes, and doe that which is lawfull and right, he shall surely liue, and shall not die.
22 যে সকল অপরাধ সে আগে করেছে তার কোনটাই মনে রাখা হবে না। তার ধার্মিক আচরণের জন্য, সে বাঁচবে।
All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned vnto him, but in his righteousnes that he hath done, he shall liue.
23 দুষ্টলোকের মরণে কি আমি খুশি হই? এই কথা সার্বভৌম সদাপ্রভু বলেন। বরং তারা তাদের কুপথ থেকে ফিরে বাঁচে, এতে কি আমি খুশি হই না?
Haue I any desire that the wicked should die, sayth the Lord God? or shall he not liue, if he returne from his wayes?
24 “কিন্তু যদি একজন ধার্মিক লোক নিজের ধার্মিকতা থেকে ফিরে পাপ করে এবং সেই একই ঘৃণ্য কাজ করে যা দুষ্টলোক করে, তবে সে কি বাঁচবে? তার সব ধার্মিকতার কাজ যা সে আগে করেছে তা মনে রাখা হবে না। কারণ তার অবিশ্বস্ততার জন্য সে দোষী এবং যে পাপ সে করেছে, তার জন্য সে মরবে।
But if the righteous turne away from his righteousnes, and commit iniquitie, and doe according to all the abominations, that the wicked man doeth, shall he liue? all his righteousnes that he hath done, shall not be mentioned: but in his transgression that he hath committed, and in his sinne that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
25 “তবুও তোমরা বলছ, ‘প্রভুর পথ ঠিক নয়।’ হে ইস্রায়েল কুল, শোনো, আমার পথ কি অন্যায়ের? তোমাদের পথ কি অন্যায়ের না?
Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equall: heare now, O house of Israel. Is not my way equall? or are not your wayes vnequall?
26 যদি একজন ধার্মিক লোক নিজের ধার্মিকতা থেকে ফিরে পাপ করে, সে তার জন্য মরবে; কারণ যে পাপ সে করেছে, সে মরবে।
For when a righteous man turneth away from his righteousnes, and committeth iniquitie, he shall euen die for the same, he shall euen die for his iniquitie, that he hath done.
27 কিন্তু যদি একজন দুষ্টলোক তার দুষ্টতা থেকে ফেরে এবং যা ন্যায্য ও সঠিক তাই করে, সে তার জীবন রক্ষা করবে।
Againe when the wicked turneth away from his wickednes that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawfull and right, he shall saue his soule aliue.
28 যেহেতু সে তার অপরাধের বিষয় বিবেচনা করে তার থেকে ফিরেছে, সে নিশ্চয়ই বাঁচবে; সে মরবে না।
Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that hee hath committed, he shall surely liue and shall not die.
29 অথচ ইস্রায়েল কুল বলছে, ‘প্রভুর পথ ঠিক নয়।’ হে ইস্রায়েল কুল, আমার পথ কি সঠিক নয়? তোমাদের পথ কি অন্যায়ের নয়?
Yet saith ye house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equall. O house of Israel, are not my wayes equall? or are not your wayes vnequall?
30 “অতএব, হে ইস্রায়েল কুল, আমি তোমাদের প্রত্যেকের আচার-ব্যবহার অনুসারে বিচার করব, এই কথা সার্বভৌম সদাপ্রভু বলেন। মন ফেরাও! তোমাদের অপরাধ থেকে ফেরো; তাহলে পাপ তোমাদের পতনের কারণ হবে না।
Therefore I will iudge you, O house of Israel, euery one according to his wayes, sayth the Lord God: returne therefore and cause others to turne away from all your transgressions: so iniquitie shall not be your destruction.
31 তোমাদের সমস্ত অন্যায় তোমাদের নিজেদের মধ্য থেকে দূর করো এবং তোমাদের অন্তর ও মন নতুন করে গড়ে তোলো। হে ইস্রায়েল কুল, তুমি কেন মরবে?
Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye haue transgressed, and make you a newe heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
32 কারণ আমি কারোর মৃত্যুতে খুশি হই না, এই কথা সার্বভৌম সদাপ্রভু বলেন। মন ফেরাও এবং বাঁচো!
For I desire not the death of him that dyeth, sayth the Lord God: cause therefore one another to returne, and liue ye.
