আমোষ ভাববাদীর বই 7

1 সার্বভৌম সদাপ্রভু আমাকে এই বিষয় দেখালেন: রাজার ভাগের শস্যচয়নের পরে যখন দ্বিতীয়বার শস্য পেকে আসছিল, তিনি পঙ্গপালের ঝাঁক তৈরি করছিলেন।

Thus did the Lord Eternal show unto me: and, behold, he was forming locusts in the beginning of the sprouting up of the latter groweth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings [was over].

2 তারা যখন ভূমিজাত ফল নিঃশেষে খেয়ে ফেলল, আমি চিৎকার করে বলে উঠলাম, “সার্বভৌম সদাপ্রভু, ক্ষমা করো! কীভাবে যাকোব বেঁচে থাকবে? সে কত ছোটো!”

And it came to pass, when they had made an end of eating up the herbs of the earth, that I said, O Lord Eternal, forgive, I beseech thee: how should Jacob be able to endure, since he is so small!

3 তাই সদাপ্রভু অনুশোচনা করলেন। সদাপ্রভু বললেন, “এরকম হবে না।”

The Lord bethought himself of this: It shall not be, said the Lord.

4 সার্বভৌম সদাপ্রভু আমাকে এই জিনিস দেখালেন: সার্বভৌম সদাপ্রভু আগুনের দ্বারা বিচার আহ্বান করলেন; তা মহা জলধিকে শুকিয়ে ফেলল ও ভূমি গ্রাস করল।

Thus did the Lord Eternal show unto me: and, behold, the Lord Eternal called forth the punishment by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and consumed the ploughed field.

5 তখন আমি কেঁদে চিৎকার করে উঠলাম, “সার্বভৌম সদাপ্রভু, আমি তোমার কাছে অনুনয় করছি, তুমি ক্ষান্ত হও! যাকোব কীভাবে বেঁচে থাকবে? সে কত ছোটো!”

Then said I, O Lord Eternal, forbear, I beseech thee: how should Jacob be able to endure, since he is so small!

6 তাই সদাপ্রভু অনুশোচনা করলেন। সার্বভৌম সদাপ্রভু বললেন, “না এরকমও ঘটবে না।”

The Lord bethought himself of this: Also this shall not be, said the Lord Eternal.

7 তারপর তিনি আমাকে দেখালেন: সদাপ্রভু একটি ওলন-সুতো হাতে ধরে ওলন-সুতোর সাহায্যে তৈরি একটি দেওয়ালের কাছে দাঁড়িয়ে আছেন।

Thus he showed unto me: and, behold, the Lord was standing upon a wall [made] by a plumbline, and in his hand was a plumbline.

8 সদাপ্রভু আমাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আমোষ, তুমি কী দেখতে পাচ্ছ?” আমি উত্তর দিলাম, “একটি ওলন-সুতো।” তখন সদাপ্রভু বললেন, “দেখো, আমি আমার প্রজা ইস্রায়েলের মধ্যে একটি ওলন-সুতো স্থাপন করছি; আমি আর তাদের ছেড়ে কথা বলব না।

And the Lord said unto me, What dost thou see, 'Amos? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel; I will not farther indulge them any more.

9 “ইস্‌হাকের উঁচু স্থানগুলি ধ্বংস করা হবে, ইস্রায়েলের পুণ্যধামগুলি বিধ্বস্ত হবে; আমি আমার তরোয়াল নিয়ে যারবিয়ামের কুলের বিপক্ষে উঠব।”

And the high places of Isaac shall be made desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid in ruins: and I will rise up against the house of Jerobo'am with the sword.

10 এরপর, বেথেলের যাজক অমৎসিয়, ইস্রায়েলের রাজা যারবিয়ামের কাছে একটি বার্তা পাঠালেন: “আমোষ ইস্রায়েলের একেবারে কেন্দ্রস্থলে, আপনার বিরুদ্ধে একটি চক্রান্ত গড়ে তুলেছেন। দেশ তাঁর সব কথা সহ্য করতে পারে না।

Then sent Amazyah, the priest of Beth-el, to Jerobo'am the king of Israel, saying, 'Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.

11 কারণ আমোষ এরকম কথা বলছেন: “‘যারবিয়াম তরোয়ালের আঘাতে নিহত হবে, আর ইস্রায়েল অবশ্যই তাদের স্বদেশ থেকে দূরে নির্বাসিত হবে।’”

For thus hath 'Amos said, By the sword shall Jerobo'am die, and Israel shall surely be led away into exile out of their own land.

12 তারপর অমৎসিয় আমোষকে বললেন, “ওহে দর্শক, তুমি এখান থেকে চলে যাও। তুমি যিহূদা দেশে ফিরে যাও। তুমি সেখানে তোমার রুটি রোজগার করো এবং সেখানেই তোমার ভবিষ্যদ্‌বাণী করো।

And Amazyah said unto 'Amos, Seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and eat there [thy] bread, and there prophesy;

13 তুমি বেথেলে আর ভবিষ্যদ্‌বাণী কোরো না, কারণ এ হল রাজার নির্মিত পুণ্যধাম এবং এই রাজ্যের মন্দির।”

But at Beth-el prophesy not farther any more; for it is the king's sanctuary, and it is a royal residence.

14 আমোষ অমৎসিয়কে উত্তর দিলেন, “আমি তো ভাববাদী ছিলাম না, ভাববাদীর সন্তানও নয়। আমি ছিলাম একজন পশুপালক। আমি সেই সঙ্গে ডুমুর গাছেরও দেখাশোনা করতাম।

Then answered 'Amos, and said to Amazyah, I am no prophet, nor am I a prophet's son; but I am a herdman, and a gatherer of wild figs;

15 কিন্তু সদাপ্রভু আমাকে পশুপাল চরানোর পিছন থেকে তুলে নিয়ে বললেন, ‘তুমি যাও, গিয়ে আমার প্রজা ইস্রায়েলের কাছে ভবিষ্যদ্‌বাণী করো।’

But the Lord hath taken me away from behind the flocks, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

16 এখন তাহলে আপনি সদাপ্রভুর বাণী শুনুন। আপনি বলছেন, “‘ইস্রায়েলের বিরুদ্ধে ভবিষ্যদ্‌বাণী কোরো না, ইস্‌হাক কুলের বিরুদ্ধে প্রচার করা বন্ধ করো।’

And now hear thou the word of the Lord, Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and preach not against the house of Isaac.

17 “সেই কারণে, সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: “‘আপনার স্ত্রী নগরের মধ্যে বেশ্যা হবে, আপনার পুত্রকন্যারা তরোয়ালে পতিত হবে। আপনার ভূমি পরিমাপ করে বিভক্ত করা হবে, আর আপনি নিজেও এক অশুচি দেশে মৃত্যুবরণ করবেন। আর ইস্রায়েল অবশ্যই তাদের স্বদেশ থেকে দূরে নির্বাসিত হবে।’”

Therefore thus hath said the Lord, Thy wife will play the harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided out by the line; and thou shalt die in an unclean land; and Israel shall surely be led forth into exile out of their land.
