1 আর শৌল সেখানে তাঁর মৃত্যুর অনুমোদন করছিলেন। সেদিন, জেরুশালেমের মণ্ডলীর বিরুদ্ধে ভীষণ নির্যাতন শুরু হল। প্রেরিতশিষ্যরা ছাড়া অন্য সকলে যিহূদিয়া ও শমরিয়ার সর্বত্র ছড়িয়ে পড়ল।
With these words he fell asleep. And Saul fully approved of his murder. On this very day there broke out a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostle were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.
2 কয়েকজন ঈশ্বরভক্ত স্তিফানের কবর দিলেন এবং তাঁর জন্য গভীর শোকপ্রকাশ করলেন।
Devout men buried Stephen, and made loud lamentations over him.
3 কিন্তু শৌল মণ্ডলী ধ্বংস করার কাজ শুরু করলেন। ঘরে ঘরে প্রবেশ করে তিনি নারী ও পুরুষ সবাইকে টেনে এনে তাদের কারাগারে নিক্ষেপ করলেন।
But Saul was laying waste the church. He was wont to enter into every house, and to drag off men and women, and to commit them to prison.
4 যারা ছড়িয়ে পড়েছিল, তারা যেখানেই গেল, সেখানেই বাক্য প্রচার করল।
So those who were scattered abroad were going everywhere preaching the word.
5 ফিলিপ শমরিয়ার একটি নগরে গেলেন এবং খ্রীষ্টকে সেখানে প্রচার করতে লাগলেন।
Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and began to preach Christ there.
6 সব লোক যখন ফিলিপের কথা শুনল ও তিনি যেসব অলৌকিক চিহ্নকাজ করছিলেন, তা দেখল, তারা তাঁর কথায় গভীর মনোনিবেশ করল।
The crowd with one accord were giving heed to what he said, when they heard and saw the signs that he did.
7 বহু মানুষের মধ্য থেকে অশুচি আত্মারা তীক্ষ্ণ চিৎকার করতে করতে বেরিয়ে এল। বহু পক্ষাঘাতগ্রস্ত ও পঙ্গু ব্যক্তিরা আরোগ্য লাভ করল।
For with a loud cry unclean spirits would come out of many possessed by them, and many that were palsied and lame were healed.
8 সেই কারণে, সেই নগরে মহা আনন্দ উপস্থিত হল।
There began to be great joy in that city.
9 কিছুকাল যাবৎ সেই নগরে শিমোন নামে এক ব্যক্তি জাদুবিদ্যা অভ্যাস করত এবং শমরিয়ার সব মানুষকে চমৎকৃত করত। সে নিজেকে একজন মহাপুরুষরূপে জাহির করে গর্ববোধ করত
Now for some time a man named Simon had been practising sorcery in that city, and had amazed the people of Samaria. He gave himself out to be some great person.
10 এবং উঁচু বা নীচ সবাই তাঁর কথা মন দিয়ে শুনত ও বলত, “এই ব্যক্তি সেই দিব্যশক্তি, যা ‘মহাশক্তি’ নামে পরিচিত।”
Many from all classes would give heed to him, declaring, "This man is the Power of God, known as the Great Power."
11 তারা তার কথা মনোযোগ দিয়ে শুনত, কারণ সে তার জাদুবিদ্যার মাধ্যমে বহুদিন ধরে তাদের মুগ্ধ করে রেখেছিল।
They were giving heed to him because, for a long time, he had amazed them with his sorceries.
12 কিন্তু ফিলিপ যখন ঈশ্বরের রাজ্যের সুসমাচার ও যীশু খ্রীষ্টের নাম প্রচার করলেন, তারা তাঁকে বিশ্বাস করল এবং নারী-পুরুষ নির্বিশেষে সকলে বাপ্তিষ্ম গ্রহণ করল।
But when they believed Philip, who was preaching glad tidings about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they began to be baptized, both men and women.
13 শিমোন নিজেও বিশ্বাস করে বাপ্তিষ্ম গ্রহণ করল। আর সে সর্বত্র ফিলিপকে অনুসরণ করতে থাকল; মহান সব চিহ্নকাজ ও অলৌকিক কাজ দেখে আশ্চর্যচকিত হল।
And Simon himself also believed, and after his baptism he remained with Philip, and was full of amazement as he beheld the signs and striking miracles which were performed.
14 জেরুশালেমের প্রেরিতশিষ্যেরা যখন শুনলেন যে, শমরিয়া ঈশ্বরের বাক্য গ্রহণ করেছে, তাঁরা পিতর ও যোহনকে তাদের কাছে পাঠালেন।
The apostle at Jerusalem, when they heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, sent to them Peter and John.
15 তাঁরা সেখানে উপস্থিত হয়ে তাদের জন্য প্রার্থনা করলেন, যেন তারা পবিত্র আত্মা পায়,
Who came down and prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit,
16 কারণ তখনও পর্যন্ত পবিত্র আত্মা তাদের কারোরই উপরে আসেননি, তারা প্রভু যীশুর নামে কেবলমাত্র বাপ্তিষ্ম গ্রহণ করেছিল।
For he had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
17 তখন পিতর ও যোহন তাদের উপরে হাত রাখলেন, আর তারা পবিত্র আত্মা লাভ করল।
Then the apostles laid their hands upon them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
18 শিমোন যখন দেখল যে প্রেরিতশিষ্যদের হাত রাখার ফলে পবিত্র আত্মা দেওয়া হচ্ছেন, সে তাঁদের টাকা দেওয়ার প্রস্তাব দিল
But when Simon perceived that, by the laying on of the apostles’ hands, the Spirit was given, he offered them money saying,
19 ও বলল, “আমাকেও এই ক্ষমতা দিন, যেন আমিও যার উপরে হাত রাখি, সেও পবিত্র আত্মা পেতে পারে।”
"Give me, too, this power, so that on whomever I lay my hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit."
20 পিতর উত্তর দিলেন, “তোমার অর্থ তোমার সঙ্গেই ধ্বংস হোক, কারণ তুমি ভেবেছ, অর্থ দিয়ে তুমি ঈশ্বরের দান কিনতে পারো!
But Peter said to him. "Your money perish with you, because you have supposed that with money you can obtain God’s free gift!"
21 এই পরিচর্যায় তোমার কোনও ভূমিকা বা ভাগ নেই, কারণ তোমার অন্তর ঈশ্বরের দৃষ্টিতে সরল নয়।
"You have no part or lot in this matter." Your heart is not right in the sight of God.
22 এই দুষ্টতার জন্য অনুতাপ করো এবং প্রভুর কাছে প্রার্থনা করো। হয়তো তোমার অন্তরের এ ধরনের চিন্তার জন্য তিনি তোমাকে ক্ষমা করবেন,
Repent then of this your wickedness, and beseech the Lord to forgive you this purpose of your heart.
23 কারণ আমি দেখতে পাচ্ছি, তুমি তিক্ততায় পূর্ণ ও পাপের কাছে এখনও বন্দি হয়ে আছ।”
"For I perceive that you still stand in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of unrighteousness."
24 তখন শিমোন উত্তর দিল, “আমার জন্য আপনারাই প্রভুর কাছে প্রার্থনা করুন, যেন আপনারা যা বললেন, তার কিছুই আমার প্রতি না ঘটে।”
And Simon answered, "Pray to the Lord for me, both of you, that nothing which you have said may happen to me."
25 যীশুর বিষয়ে সাক্ষ্য দেওয়ার পর ও প্রভুর বাক্য প্রচার করার পর পিতর ও যোহন বিভিন্ন শমরীয় গ্রামে সুসমাচার প্রচার করলেন ও জেরুশালেমে ফিরে গেলেন।
So the apostles, after bearing solemn witness, and declaring the message of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, evangelizing many Samaritan villages as they went.
26 ইতিমধ্যে প্রভুর এক দূত ফিলিপকে বললেন, “দক্ষিণ দিকে, জেরুশালেম থেকে গাজার দিকে যে পথটি গেছে, মরুপ্রান্তরের সেই পথটিতে যাও।”
And an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, "Arise and go on your way south, along the road that runs down from Jerusalem to Gaza, the desert way."
27 তিনি তখন যাত্রা শুরু করলেন। তাঁর যাওয়ার পথে তিনি এক ইথিয়োপীয় নপুংসক ব্যক্তির সাক্ষাৎ পেলেন। তিনি ইথিয়োপীয়দের কান্দাকি রানির সমস্ত কোষাগার তত্ত্বাবধানের দায়িত্বপ্রাপ্ত একজন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ আধিকারিক ছিলেন। সেই ব্যক্তি উপাসনা করার জন্য জেরুশালেমে গিয়েছিলেন।
So he arose and went. And behold an Ethiopian man, a eunuch, who was a high official (a chief treasurer) of Candace, the queen of Ethiopia, who had come to Jerusalem to worship
28 তাঁর বাড়ি ফেরার পথে, তিনি তাঁর রথে বসে ভাববাদী যিশাইয়ের পুস্তকটি পাঠ করছিলেন।
Was now on his way home, and was reading the Prophet Isaiah as he sat in his chariot.
29 পবিত্র আত্মা ফিলিপকে বললেন, “তুমি ওই রথের কাছে গিয়ে তার কাছাকাছি থাকো।”
And the Spirit said to Philip, "Go up and join that chariot."
30 ফিলিপ তখন রথের দিকে দৌড়ে গেলেন এবং শুনলেন, সেই ব্যক্তি ভাববাদী যিশাইয়ের গ্রন্থ পাঠ করছেন। ফিলিপ জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আপনি যা পাঠ করছেন, তা কি বুঝতে পারছেন?”
So Philip ran up, and heard him reading Isaiah the Prophet, and said to him. "Do you understand what you are reading?"
31 তিনি বললেন, “কেউ আমাকে এর ব্যাখ্যা না করে দিলে, আমি কী করে বুঝতে পারব?” সেই কারণে তিনি ফিলিপকে তাঁর কাছে উঠে বসার জন্য আমন্ত্রণ জানালেন।
The eunuch answered, "Why, how can I unless someone shall show me the way?" And he begged Philip to get up and sit with him.
32 সেই নপুংসক শাস্ত্রের এই অংশটি পাঠ করছিলেন: “যেমন ঘাতকের কাছে নিয়ে যাওয়া মেষশাবককে, ও লোমচ্ছেদকদের কাছে নিয়ে যাওয়া মেষ নীরব থাকে, তেমনই তিনি তাঁর মুখ খোলেননি।
Now the portion of Scripture which he was reading was as follows. He was led a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is dumb, So he opened not his mouth.
33 তাঁর অবমাননাকালে তিনি ন্যায়বিচার থেকে বঞ্চিত হলেন। তাঁর বংশধরদের কথা কে বলতে পারে? কারণ পৃথিবী থেকে তাঁর জীবন উচ্ছিন্ন হল।”
In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who will declare his posterity? For his life is cut off from the earth.
34 নপুংসক ফিলিপকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “অনুগ্রহ করে আমাকে বলুন, ভাববাদী এখানে কার সম্পর্কে একথা বলেছেন, নিজের বিষয়ে, না অন্য কারও সম্পর্কে?”
"Pray," asked the eunuch of Philip, "of whom is the prophet speaking? Of himself, or of some one else?"
35 তখন তাঁর কাছে ফিলিপ শাস্ত্রের সেই অংশ থেকে শুরু করে যীশুর বিষয়ে সুসমাচার প্রচার করলেন।
Then Philip opened his lips, and beginning from that same scripture, he preached the gospel of Jesus to him.
36 তাঁরা যখন পথে যাচ্ছিলেন, তাঁরা এক জলাশয়ের কাছে এসে পৌঁছালেন। নপুংসক বললেন, “দেখুন, এখানে জল আছে। আমার বাপ্তিষ্ম গ্রহণের বাধা কোথায়?”
And as they were going on their way they came to a certain water, and the eunuch said. "See, here is water! What hinders my being baptized?"
37 ফিলিপ বললেন, “আপনি যদি সম্পূর্ণ মনেপ্রাণে বিশ্বাস করেন, তাহলে নিতে পারেন।” প্রত্যুত্তরে নপুংসক বললেন, “আমি বিশ্বাস করি যে, যীশু খ্রীষ্টই ঈশ্বরের পুত্র।”
And Philip said, "If you believe with your whole heart, you may." The eunuch answered, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."
38 তিনি তখন রথ থামানোর আদেশ দিলেন। পরে ফিলিপ ও নপুংসক, উভয়েই জলের মধ্যে নেমে গেলেন এবং ফিলিপ তাঁকে বাপ্তিষ্ম দিলেন।
And he ordered the chariot to stop; and both of them, Philip and the eunuch, went down into the water, and Philip baptized him.
39 তাঁরা যখন জলের মধ্য থেকে বের হয়ে এলেন, প্রভুর আত্মা তখন হঠাৎই ফিলিপকে সেই স্থান থেকে সরিয়ে দিলেন। নপুংসক তাঁকে আর দেখতে পেলেন না। তখন তিনি আনন্দ করতে করতে তাঁর পথে চলে গেলেন।
And when they had come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, but continued on his way rejoicing.
40 ফিলিপকে অবশ্য আজোতাস নগরে দেখতে পাওয়া গেল। তিনি যাওয়ার পথে সব নগরগুলিতে সুসমাচার প্রচার করতে করতে অবশেষ কৈসরিয়াতে গিয়ে পৌঁছালেন।
Philip found himself at Ashdod. Then visiting town after town, he kept preaching the good news in all the cities until he reached Caesarea.
