1 এভাবে নিরাপদে তীরে পৌঁছানোর পর, আমরা জানতে পারলাম যে সেই দ্বীপের নাম মাল্টা।
And when they had escaped, then they knew that the isle was called Melita.
2 সেই দ্বীপের অধিবাসীরা আমাদের প্রতি অসাধারণ সহানুভূতি দেখাল। সেই সময় বৃষ্টি পড়ছিল এমনকি শীতও পড়েছিল, তাই তারা আগুন জ্বেলে আমাদের সবাইকে অভ্যর্থনা জানাল।
And the barbarous people showed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.
3 পৌল এক বোঝা জ্বালানি কাঠ সংগ্রহ করে ওই আগুনে দেওয়ামাত্র, আগুনের তাপে একটি বিষধর সাপ বেরিয়ে এসে তাঁর হাত শক্ত করে জড়িয়ে ধরল।
And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.
4 দ্বীপের অধিবাসীরা যখন দেখল যে সাপটি তাঁর হাতে ঝুলছে, তারা পরস্পরকে বলতে লাগল, “এই ব্যক্তি নিশ্চয়ই একজন খুনি। কারণ সমুদ্রের কবল থেকে এ রক্ষা পেলেও দেবতার বিচারে ও প্রাণে বাঁচবে না।”
And when the barbarians saw the venomous creature hanging from his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet Vengeance alloweth not to live.
5 কিন্তু পৌল সাপটিকে আগুনে ঝেড়ে ফেলে দিলেন, আর তাঁর কোনো ক্ষতি হল না।
And he shook off the creature into the fire, and felt no harm.
6 লোকেরা ভাবছিল, তিনি ফুলে উঠবেন বা হঠাৎই মারা গিয়ে মাটিতে পড়ে যাবেন, কিন্তু দীর্ঘ সময় প্রতীক্ষা করেও কোনো অস্বাভাবিক ঘটনা তাঁর প্রতি ঘটতে না দেখে, তারা তাদের মত বদল করে বলল যে, তিনি একজন দেবতা।
Yet they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.
7 কাছেই ছিল সেই দ্বীপের প্রধান কর্মকর্তা পুব্লিয়ের জমিজায়গা। তিনি আমাদের তাঁর বাড়িতে স্বাগত জানালেন এবং তিন দিন যাবৎ আমাদের অতিথি আপ্যায়ন করলেন।
In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the isle, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.
8 তাঁর বাবা জ্বর ও আমাশয়রোগে শয্যাশায়ী ছিলেন। পৌল তাঁকে দেখতে ভিতরে গেলেন এবং প্রার্থনা করার পর তাঁর উপরে হাত রেখে তাঁকে সুস্থ করলেন।
And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick with a fever and a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.
9 এ ঘটনা ঘটার পর, সেই দ্বীপের অন্যান্য রোগীরাও এসে সুস্থতা লাভ করল।
So when this was done, others also, who had diseases in the isle, came, and were healed:
10 তারা বিভিন্ন উপায়ে আমাদের সমাদর করল এবং যখন আমরা সমুদ্রযাত্রার জন্য প্রস্তুত হলাম, আমাদের প্রয়োজনীয় সমস্ত কিছু তারা সরবরাহ করল।
Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they supplied us with such things as were necessary.
11 তিন মাস পরে আমরা একটি জাহাজে করে যাত্রা শুরু করলাম। সেই জাহাজ ওই দ্বীপেই শীতকাল কাটাচ্ছিল। সেটা ছিল একটি আলেকজান্দ্রীয় জাহাজ, যার সামনে খোদাই করা ছিল ক্যাস্টর ও পোল্লাক্স, দুই যমজ দেবতার মূর্তি।
And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.
12 আমরা সুরাকুষে জাহাজ লাগিয়ে সেখানে তিন দিন থাকলাম।
And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days.
13 সেখান থেকে আমরা সমুদ্রযাত্রা করে রিগিয়ামে পৌঁছালাম। পরের দিন দক্ষিণ দিক থেকে বাতাস বইতে লাগল এবং তার পরের দিন আমরা পুতিয়লিতে পৌঁছালাম।
And from there we sailed around, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli:
14 সেখানে আমরা কয়েকজন বিশ্বাসীর সন্ধান পেলাম, তাঁরা তাঁদের সঙ্গে এক সপ্তাহ কাটানোর জন্য আমাদের আমন্ত্রণ জানালেন। এভাবে আমরা রোমে পৌঁছালাম।
Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.
15 সেখানকার ভাইবোনরা আমাদের আসার খবর শুনতে পেয়েছিলেন, তাই আমাদের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করার জন্য তাঁরা সুদূর আপ্পিয়ের হাট ও ত্রি-পান্থনিবাস পর্যন্ত এলেন। তাঁদের দেখে পৌল ঈশ্বরকে ধন্যবাদ দিলেন ও উৎসাহিত হলেন।
And from there, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.
16 যখন আমরা রোমে পৌঁছালাম, পৌলকে স্বতন্ত্রভাবে বাস করার অনুমতি দেওয়া হল যদিও একজন সৈন্য তাঁকে পাহারা দিত।
And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was permitted to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.
17 তিন দিন পরে তিনি ইহুদিদের নেতৃবৃন্দকে একত্র হওয়ার জন্য আহ্বান করলেন। তাঁরা সমবেত হলে পৌল তাঁদের বললেন, “হে আমার ভাইয়েরা, যদিও স্বজাতির বিরুদ্ধে বা আমাদের পিতৃপুরুষদের রীতিনীতির বিরুদ্ধে আমি কিছুই করিনি, তবুও আমাকে জেরুশালেমে গ্রেপ্তার করে রোমীয়দের হাতে তুলে দেওয়া হয়েছিল।
And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called together the chief of the Jews: and when they were assembled, he said to them, Men, brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.
18 তারা আমাকে জেরা করার পর মুক্তি দিতে চেয়েছিল, কারণ মৃত্যুদণ্ডের যোগ্য কোনো অপরাধই আমি করিনি।
Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.
19 কিন্তু ইহুদিরা যখন আপত্তি করল, আমি কৈসরের কাছে অনুরোধ জানাতে বাধ্য হলাম। এমন নয় যে স্বজাতির লোকদের দোষারোপ করার মতো আমার কোনও অভিযোগ ছিল।
But when the Jews spoke against it, I was constrained to appeal to Caesar; not that I had any thing to accuse my nation of.
20 এই কারণে, আমি আপনাদের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করতে ও কথা বলতে চেয়েছি। ইস্রায়েলের প্রত্যাশার জন্যই আমি এই শিকলে বন্দি হয়েছি।”
For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.
21 তাঁরা উত্তর দিলেন, “আমরা আপনার সম্পর্কে যিহূদিয়া থেকে কোনও পত্র পাইনি। সেখান থেকে আসা কোনও ব্যক্তি আপনার বিষয়ে কোনো খারাপ সংবাদ দেয়নি বা কোনো খারাপ কথা বলেনি।
And they said to him, We have neither received letters from Judaea concerning thee, neither have any of the brethren that came shown or spoken any harm of thee.
22 কিন্তু আপনার দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি কী প্রকার তা আমরা শুনতে চাই, কারণ আমরা জানি, সর্বত্র লোকেরা এই দলের বিরুদ্ধে কথা বলে।”
But we desire to hear from thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.
23 পৌলের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাতের জন্য তাঁরা একটি দিন স্থির করলেন। পৌল যেখানে বসবাস করছিলেন, তাঁরা আরও বেশি সংখ্যায় সেখানে এসে উপস্থিত হলেন। সকাল থেকে সন্ধ্যা পর্যন্ত তিনি তাঁদের কাছে ঈশ্বরের রাজ্য সম্পর্কে ব্যাখ্যা ও প্রচার করলেন। তিনি মোশির বিধান ও ভাববাদীদের গ্রন্থ থেকে যীশুর বিষয়ে তাঁদের মনে বিশ্বাস জাগানোর চেষ্টা করলেন।
And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.
24 তিনি যা বললেন, তা শুনে কেউ কেউ বিশ্বাস করলেন, কিন্তু অন্যরা বিশ্বাস করলেন না।
And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
25 তাঁদের নিজেদের মধ্যে মতবিরোধ হওয়ায় তাঁরা সেই স্থান ত্যাগ করতে লাগলেন, যখন পৌল তাঁর সর্বশেষ মন্তব্য করলেন, “পবিত্র আত্মা আপনাদের পিতৃপুরুষদের কাছে সত্য ঘোষণা করেছিলেন, যখন তিনি ভাববাদী যিশাইয়র মাধ্যমে বলেছিলেন,
And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after Paul had spoken one word, Well spoke the Holy Spirit by Isaiah the prophet to our fathers,
26 “‘তুমি এই জাতির কাছে যাও ও বলো, “তোমরা সবসময়ই শুনতে থাকবে, কিন্তু কখনও বুঝতে পারবে না; তোমরা সবসময়ই দেখতে থাকবে, কিন্তু কখনও উপলব্ধি করবে না।”
Saying, Go to this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:
27 কারণ এই লোকেদের হৃদয় অনুভূতিহীন হয়েছে, তারা কদাচিৎ তাদের কান দিয়ে শোনে, তারা তাদের চোখ মুদ্রিত করেছে। অন্যথায়, তারা হয়তো তাদের চোখ দিয়ে দেখবে, তাদের কান দিয়ে শুনবে, তাদের মন দিয়ে বুঝবে, ও ফিরে আসবে যেন আমি তাদের আরোগ্য দান করি।’
For the heart of this people has become dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
28 “সেই কারণে, আমি আপনাদের বলতে চাই যে, ঈশ্বরের পরিত্রাণ অইহুদিদের কাছে পাঠানো হয়েছে, আর তারা তা শুনবে।”
Be it known therefore to you, that the salvation of God is sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it.
29 তিনি একথা বলার পর, ইহুদিরা নিজেদের মধ্যে তুমুল তর্কবিতর্ক করতে করতে সেই স্থান ত্যাগ করল।
And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great dispute among themselves.
30 সম্পূর্ণ দু-বছর পৌল সেখানে তাঁর নিজস্ব ভাড়াবাড়িতে রইলেন। যারা তাঁর সঙ্গে দেখা করতে আসত, তাদের সকলকে তিনি স্বাগত জানাতেন।
And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in to him,
31 সাহসের সঙ্গে তিনি ঈশ্বরের রাজ্যের বিষয়ে প্রচার করতেন এবং প্রভু যীশু খ্রীষ্ট সম্পর্কে শিক্ষা দিতেন। কেউ তাঁকে বাধা দিত না।
Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
