And as it was determined that we should set sail into Italy, they delivered Paul, and some other prisoners, to a centurions of the Augustan Band, whose name was Julius.

And going on board a ship of Adramyttis, we weighed anchor, intending to sail by the coasts of Asia; Aristarchus, a Macedonian, of Thessalonica, being with us.
3 পরের দিন, আমরা সীদোনে পৌঁছালাম। জুলিয়াস পৌলের প্রতি দয়া দেখিয়ে বন্ধুদের কাছে তাঁকে যাওয়ার অনুমতি দিলেন, যেন তারা তাঁর সব প্রয়োজনীয় উপকরণ জোগাতে পারে।
And the next day we reached Sidon: and Julius, treating Paul with great humanity, permitted him to go to his friends, and to enjoy the benefit of their care.
4 সেখান থেকে আমরা আবার সমুদ্রযাত্রা শুরু করলাম এবং বাতাস যেহেতু আমাদের প্রতিকূলে বইছিল, আমরা সাইপ্রাস দ্বীপের আড়ালে আড়ালে যেতে লাগলাম।
And weighing anchor thence, we sailed under Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.
5 যখন আমরা কিলিকিয়া ও পাম্ফুলিয়া উপকূলের সম্মুখবর্তী সমুদ্র অতিক্রম করলাম, আমরা লুসিয়া প্রদেশের ম্যুরা নামক স্থানে পৌঁছালাম।
And sailing through the sea over against Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia.
6 সেখানে একটি আলেকজান্দ্রীয় জাহাজকে ইতালির উদ্দেশে যাত্রা করতে দেখে শত-সেনাপতি আমাদের সেই জাহাজে তুলে দিলেন।
And there, the centurion, finding a ship of Alexandria, bound for italy, put us on board of it.
7 বহুদিন যাবৎ ধীর গতিতে চলার পর আমরা কষ্টের সঙ্গে ক্নীদের কাছে এসে পৌঁছালাম। বাতাস যখন আমাদের নির্ধারিত পথে যাত্রা করতে দিল না, আমরা সলমোনির বিপরীত দিকে ক্রীট দ্বীপের আড়ালে আড়ালে পাড়ি দিলাম।
And when we had sailed slowly for several days, and were hardly got over against Cnidus, the wind now permitting us; we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone:
8 কষ্ট করে উপকূল বরাবর যেতে যেতে, আমরা লাসেয়া নগরের কাছে সুন্দর পোতাশ্রয় নামে একটি স্থানে এসে পৌঁছালাম।
and passing it with difficulty, we came to a certain place called the Fair Havens, in the neighborhood of which, was the city of Lasea.
9 এভাবে অনেক সময় নষ্ট হয়েছিল। উপবাস-পর্ব শেষ হওয়ার পরে সমুদ্রযাত্রা বিপদসংকুল হয়ে উঠেছিল। তাই পৌল তাদের সতর্ক করে দিয়ে বললেন,
And, as much time was spent, and sailing was now hazardous, because the fast was already over, Paul exhorted them,
10 “মহাশয়েরা, আমি দেখতে পাচ্ছি, আমাদের সমুদ্রযাত্রা দুর্দশাজনক হবে, জাহাজ ও মালপত্রের প্রচণ্ড ক্ষয়ক্ষতি হবে, আবার আমাদেরও প্রাণসংশয় হতে পারে।”
saying to them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be attended with injury and great damage, not only to the lading and to the ship, but also to our lives.
11 কিন্তু শত-সেনাপতি, পৌলের কথায় কান না দিয়ে, নাবিকের ও জাহাজের মালিকের পরামর্শ মেনে চললেন।
But the centurion paid greater regard to the pilot, and the master of the vessel, than to those things which were spoken by Paul.
12 যেহেতু বন্দরটি শীতকাল কাটানোর জন্য উপযুক্ত ছিল না তাই অধিকাংশ লোকই সমুদ্রযাত্রায় এগিয়ে যাওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিল। তারা আশা করছিল যে ফিনিক্সে পৌঁছে সেখানে শীতকাল কাটাবে। সেটা ছিল ক্রীটের একটি বন্দর, যার দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিম ও উত্তর-পশ্চিম দুই দিকই ছিল খোলা।
And as the haven was not commodious to winter in, the greater part advised to set sail from thence, if they might possibly reach Phenice, to winter there;
13 যখন দক্ষিণ দিক থেকে হালকা এক বাতাস বইতে লাগল, তারা ভাবল যে তারা যা চেয়েছিল তাই হয়েছে। ফলে তারা নোঙর তুলে ক্রীটের উপকূল বরাবর যাত্রা করল।
which is a haven of Crete, looking to the southwest and northwest: and as the south win blew gently, supposing they were secure of their purpose, they weighed anchor, and sailed on close to Crete.
14 কিন্তু খুব অল্প সময়ের মধ্যেই উরাকুলো নামে প্রচণ্ড এক ঘূর্ণিঝড় দ্বীপের দিক থেকে আছড়ে পড়ল।
But not long after, there arose against her a tempestuous wind, which is called Euroclydon.
15 জাহাজটি ঝড়ের মুখে পড়ল এবং বাতাসের মধ্য দিয়ে যেতে পারল না। তাই আমরা তা ভেসে যেতে দিলাম।
And as the ship was violently hurried away, and was not able to bear up against the wind, we gave her up, and were driven.
16 যখন আমরা কৌদা নামের ছোটো একটি দ্বীপের আড়াল দিয়ে যাচ্ছিলাম, আমরা অনেক কষ্টে জাহাজের জীবন-রক্ষাকারী নৌকাটি নিজেদের আয়ত্তে আনতে পারলাম।
An running under a certain island, called Clauda, we were hardly able to get masters of the boat:
17 মাঝিমাল্লারা যখন সেটাকে পাটাতনের উপরে তুলল, তারা নিচ থেকে দড়ি দিয়ে সেটাকে জাহাজের সঙ্গে বাঁধল। সূর্তির বালির চড়ায় আটকে পড়ার ভয়ে তারা সমুদ্রে নোঙর নামিয়ে দিল এবং জাহাজটিকে ভেসে যেতে দিল।
which, when they had hoisted up, they used helps, undergirding the ship: and fearing, lest they should fall upon the quicksands, they struck sail, and so were driven.
18 আমরা ঝড়ের এমন প্রচণ্ড দাপটের মুখে পড়লাম যে পরের দিন তারা জাহাজের মালপত্র ফেলে দিতে লাগল।
And we were exceedingly tossed by the storm, the next day they lightened the ship:
19 তৃতীয় দিনে তারা নিজের হাতে জাহাজের সাজসরঞ্জাম জলে ফেলে দিল।
and the third day we cast out, with our own hands, the tackling of the ship.
20 যখন অনেকদিন পর্যন্ত সূর্য বা আকাশের তারা দেখা গেল না এবং ঝড়ের তাণ্ডব অব্যাহত রইল, আমরা বেঁচে থাকার সব আশা ছেড়ে দিলাম।
Now, as neither sun nor stars appeared for several days, and no small tempest pressed upon us, all remainder of hope that we might be delivered, was taken away.
21 লোকেরা অনেকদিন অনাহারে থাকার পর, পৌল তাদের সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে বললেন, “মহাশয়েরা, আমার পরামর্শ গ্রহণ করে ক্রীট থেকে আপনাদের যাত্রা না করাই উচিত ছিল; তাহলে আপনাদের এই ক্ষয়ক্ষতি হত না।
And when there was great want of food, then Paul, standing in the midst of them, said, Sirs, you ought to have hearkened to me, and not to have loosed from Crete, and incurred this injury and loss.
22 কিন্তু এখন আমি আপনাদের অনুনয় করছি, আপনারা সাহস রাখুন, কারণ আপনাদের কারও প্রাণহানি হবে না, কেবলমাত্র জাহাজটি ধ্বংস হবে।
Nevertheless, even now I exhort you to be of good courage: for there shall be no loss of any life among you; but only of the ship.
23 আমি যে ঈশ্বরের দাস ও আমি যাঁর উপাসনা করি, তাঁর এক দূত গত রাত্রে আমার পাশে দাঁড়িয়ে
For there appeared to me this night, an angel of the God whose I am, and whom I worship,
24 বললেন, ‘পৌল, তুমি ভয় পেয়ো না। তোমাকে কৈসরের সামনে বিচারের জন্য উপস্থিত হতেই হবে। আর ঈশ্বর দয়া করে যারা তোমার সঙ্গে সমুদ্রযাত্রা করছে, তাদের সকলের জীবন তোমায় দান করেছেন।’
saying, Fear not, Paul; you must be presented before Cesar; and, behold, God has given you all them that sail with you.
25 সেই কারণে মহাশয়েরা সাহস রাখুন, কারণ ঈশ্বরের উপরে আমার বিশ্বাস আছে যে, তিনি আমার কাছে যেমন ব্যক্ত করেছেন, তেমনই ঘটবে।
Wherefore, take courage, men; for I trust in God that it shall be so, even as it was told me.
26 তবুও, আমাদের কোনো দ্বীপে গিয়ে উঠতেই হবে।”
But we must be cast upon a certain island.
27 চোদ্দো দিন পরে রাত্রিবেলায়, আমরা তখনও আদ্রিয়া সমুদ্রের উপর দিয়ে ভেসে চলেছি, এমন সময়ে, প্রায় মাঝরাতে, নাবিকরা অনুমান করল যে তারা কোনও ডাঙার কাছাকাছি এসে পড়েছে।
And when the fourteenth night was come, as we were tossed up and down in the Adriatic sea, the mariners suspected, about midnight that they drew near to some land;
28 তারা মেপে দেখল যে, জলের গভীরতা একশো কুড়ি ফুট। অল্প কিছুক্ষণ পরে তারা আবার মেপে দেখল, জলের গভীরতা নব্বই ফুট।
and sounding, they found it twenty fathoms: and having gone a little way from thence, and sounding again, they found it fifteen fathoms.
29 পাথরের গায়ে আছড়ে পরার ভয়ে তারা জাহাজের পিছন দিক থেকে চারটি নোঙর ফেলে দিয়ে দিনের আলোর জন্য প্রার্থনা করতে লাগল।
And fearing lest they should fall upon some rocky shore, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished that the day would break.
30 আর জাহাজ থেকে পালিয়ে যাওয়ার উদ্দেশে নাবিকেরা জাহাজের সামনের দিকে কয়েকটি নোঙর নামিয়ে দেওয়ার ছল করল ও সমুদ্রে জীবন-রক্ষাকারী নৌকাটিকে নামিয়ে দিল।
But when the mariners endeavored to flee out of the ship, and had let down the boat into the sea, under pretense that they were about to carry out anchors from the ship-head;
31 পৌল তখন শত-সেনাপতি ও সৈন্যদের বললেন, “এই লোকেরা জাহাজে না থাকলে আপনারা কিছুতেই রক্ষা পাবেন না।”
Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, Unless these continue in the ship, you can not be saved.
32 তখন সৈন্যরা নৌকার দড়ি কেটে দিয়ে সেটাকে জলে পড়ে যেতে দিল।
Then the soldiers cut off the cords of the boat, and let it fall off.
33 ভোরের ঠিক আগে, পৌল তাদের সবাইকে কিছু খেয়ে নেওয়ার জন্য অনুনয় করলেন। তিনি বললেন, “গত চোদ্দো দিন যাবৎ আপনারা ক্রমাগত উদ্বেগের মধ্যে আছেন এবং অনাহারে কাটিয়েছেন, আপনারা কিছুই আহার করেননি।
And while the day was coming on, Paul exhorted them all to take some food, saying, To-day, whilst waiting for this fourteenth day, you continue fasting, having taken nothing.
34 এখন কিছু খাওয়ার জন্য আমি আপনাদের অনুরোধ করছি। বেঁচে থাকার জন্য আপনাদের খাবার প্রয়োজন আছে। আপনাদের একজনের মাথার একটি চুলও নষ্ট হবে না।”
I exhort you, therefore, to take a refreshment; for this is conducive to your safety: for not a hair shall fall from the head of any of you.
35 একথা বলার পর, তিনি কিছু রুটি নিয়ে তাদের সকলের সামনে ঈশ্বরকে ধন্যবাদ দিলেন। তারপর তা ভেঙে তিনি খেতে লাগলেন।
And when he had spoke thus, and had taken bread, he gave thanks to God, before them all; and having broken it, he began to eat.
36 এতে তারা সকলেই উৎসাহিত হয়ে কিছু কিছু খাবার গ্রহণ করল।
And being all encouraged, they also took some food.
37 জাহাজে আমরা সর্বমোট দুশো ছিয়াত্তর জন ছিলাম।
And we were in the ship, in all two hundred and seventy-six souls.
38 তারা যখন নিজেদের ইচ্ছামতো পর্যাপ্ত খাবার গ্রহণ করল, তারা খাদ্যশস্য সমুদ্রে ফেলে দিয়ে জাহাজের ভার হালকা করল।
And being satisfied with food, they lightened the ship; and cast the corn into the sea.
39 দিনের আলো ফুটে উঠলে তারা জায়গাটা চিনতে পারল না। কিন্তু তারা একটি উপসাগর দেখতে পেল, যার তীর বালিতে ভর্তি ছিল। তারা স্থির করল, সম্ভব হলে তারা জাহাজটিকে চড়ায় আটকে দেবে।
And when it was day, they did not know the land: but they perceived a certain creek, with a shore, into which they determined, if they were able, to force the ship.
40 নোঙরগুলি কেটে দিয়ে তারা সেগুলি সমুদ্রে ফেলে দিল। সেই সঙ্গে তারা হালের সঙ্গে বাঁধা দড়িগুলিও খুলে দিল। এরপর তারা বাতাসের অনুকূলে পাল তুলে দিয়ে তীরের দিকে এগিয়ে চলল।
And having cut off the anchors, leaving them in the sea, they, at the same time, loosing the rudder bands, and hoisting up the mainsail to the wind, pressed toward the shore.
41 কিন্তু জাহাজ একটি বালির চড়ায় ধাক্কা মারল এবং আটকে গেল। জাহাজের সামনের দিকটি জোরে ধাক্কা মারল ও তা অচল হয়ে গেল। কিন্তু পিছনের দিকটি ঢেউয়ের প্রবল আঘাতে টুকরো টুকরো হয়ে গেল।
But falling on a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground, and the fore part stuck fast, and remained immovable, while the hinder part was broken by the force of the waves.
42 বন্দিরা কেউ যেন সাঁতার কেটে পালিয়ে যেতে না পারে, সেজন্য সৈন্যরা তাদের হত্যা করার পরামর্শ করল।
And the counsel of the soldiers was, that they should kill the prisoners, lest any one should swim away, and escape.
43 কিন্তু শত-সেনাপতি পৌলের প্রাণ বাঁচানোর ইচ্ছায় তাদের সেই পরিকল্পনা কার্যকর হতে দিলেন না। তিনি আদেশ দিলেন, যারা সাঁতার জানে, প্রথমে তারাই যেন জলে ঝাঁপ দিয়ে তীরে ওঠে।
But the centurion, being desirous to save Paul, hindered them from their purpose, and commanded those that could swim, to throw themselves out first, into the sea, and get away to land:
44 অবশিষ্ট সকলে যেন তক্তা বা জাহাজের ভাঙা অংশ নিয়ে সেখানে পৌঁছায়। এভাবে প্রত্যেকেই নিরাপদে তীরে পৌঁছে গেল।
and the remainder, some upon planks, and others upon some of the things of the ship. And so it happened that they all got safe to land.
