1 যখন পঞ্চাশত্তমীর দিন উপস্থিত হল, তাঁরা সকলেই এক স্থানে সমবেত ছিলেন।
At length, on the day of the Harvest Festival, they had all met in one place;
2 হঠাৎই আকাশ থেকে প্রবল বায়ুপ্রবাহের মতো একটি শব্দ ভেসে এল এবং তাঁরা যেখানে বসেছিলেন, সেই ঘরের সর্বত্র ব্যাপ্ত হল।
when suddenly there came from the sky a sound as of a strong rushing blast of wind. This filled the whole house where they were sitting;
3 তাঁরা দেখতে পেলেন, যেন জিভের মতো আগুনের শিখা, যা ভাগ ভাগ হয়ে তাঁদের প্রত্যেকের উপরে অধিষ্ঠান করল।
and they saw tongues of what looked like fire distributing themselves over the assembly, and on the head of each person a tongue alighted.
4 আর তাঁরা সবাই পবিত্র আত্মায় পরিপূর্ণ হলেন এবং আত্মা যেমন সক্ষমতা দিলেন, তাঁরা সেইরূপ অন্য অন্য ভাষায় কথা বলতে লাগলেন।
They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in foreign languages according as the Spirit gave them words to utter.
5 সেই সময় আকাশের নিচে অবস্থিত সমস্ত দেশ থেকে ঈশ্বরভয়শীল ইহুদিরা জেরুশালেমে বাস করছিলেন।
Now there were Jews residing in Jerusalem, devout men from every part of the world.
6 তারা যখন এই শব্দ শুনল, তারা হতচকিত হয়ে সেই স্থানে এসে ভিড় করল, কারণ তাদের মধ্যে প্রত্যেকেই নিজস্ব ভাষায় তাঁদের কথা বলতে শুনল।
So when this noise was heard, they came crowding together, and were amazed because everyone heard his own language spoken.
7 অত্যন্ত চমৎকৃত হয়ে তারা জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “এই যে লোকেরা কথা বলছে, এরা সবাই কি গালীলীয় নয়?
They were beside themselves with wonder, and exclaimed, "Are not all these speakers Galilaeans?
8 তাহলে কীভাবে আমরা প্রত্যেকেই তার নিজস্ব জন্মদেশীয় ভাষায় তাঁদের কথা বলতে শুনছি?
How then does each of us hear his own native language spoken by them?
9 পার্থীয়, মাদীয়, এলমীয় এবং মেসোপটেমিয়া, যিহূদিয়া ও কাপ্পাদোকিয়া, পন্ত ও এশিয়ার অধিবাসীরা,
Some of us are Parthians, Medes, Elamites. Some are inhabitants of Mesopotamia, of Judaea or Cappadocia, of Pontus or the Asian Province, of Phrygia or Pamphylia,
10 ফরুগিয়া ও পাম্ফুলিয়া, মিশর ও কুরীণের কাছাকাছি লিবিয়ার অংশবিশেষ, রোম থেকে আগত পরিদর্শকেরা,
of Egypt or of the parts of Africa towards Cyrene. Others are visitors from Rome--being either Jews or converts from heathenism--and others are Cretans or Arabians.
11 (ইহুদি ও ইহুদি ধর্মে ধর্মান্তরিত, উভয়ই); ক্রীটিয় ও আরবীয়েরা, আমরা শুনতে পাচ্ছি, আমাদের নিজস্ব ভাষায় তাঁরা ঈশ্বরের বিস্ময়কর কীর্তির কথা ঘোষণা করছেন!”
Yet we all alike hear these Galilaeans speaking in our own language about the wonderful things which God has done."
12 চমৎকৃত ও হতভম্ব হয়ে তারা পরস্পরকে জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “এর অর্থ কী?”
They were all astounded and bewildered, and asked one another, "What can this mean?"
13 কেউ কেউ অবশ্য তাদের পরিহাস করে বলল, “এরা অত্যধিক সুরাপান করে ফেলেছে।”
But others, scornfully jeering, said, "They are brim-full of sweet wine."
14 তখন পিতর সেই এগারোজনের সঙ্গে উঠে দাঁড়িয়ে উচ্চকণ্ঠে জনসাধারণকে সম্বোধন করলেন, “হে ইহুদি জনমণ্ডলী ও জেরুশালেমে বসবাসকারী আপনারা সকলে, আমাকে এই ঘটনার কথা আপনাদের কাছে ব্যাখ্যা করতে দিন; আমি যা বলি, তা মনোযোগ দিয়ে শুনুন।
Peter however, together with the Eleven, stood up and addressed them in a loud voice. "Men of Judaea, and all you inhabitants of Jerusalem," he said, "be in no uncertainty about this matter but pay attention to what I say.
15 এই লোকেরা নেশাগ্রস্ত নয়, যেমন আপনারা মনে করছেন। এখন সকাল নয়টা মাত্র!
For this is not intoxication, as you suppose, it being only the third hour of the day.
16 আসলে ভাববাদী যোয়েল এই ঘটনার কথাই ব্যক্ত করেছিলেন:
But that which was predicted through the Prophet Joel has happened:
17 “ঈশ্বর বলেন, ‘অন্তিমকালে, আমি সমস্ত মানুষের উপরে আমার আত্মা ঢেলে দেব। তোমাদের ছেলে ও মেয়েরা ভাববাণী বলবে, তোমাদের প্রবীণেরা স্বপ্ন দেখবে, তোমাদের যুবকেরা দর্শন পাবে।
"And it shall come to pass in the last days, God says, that I will pour out My Spirit upon all mankind; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall have dreams;
18 এমনকি, আমার দাস-দাসীদেরও উপরে, সেইসব দিনে আমি আমার আত্মা ঢেলে দেব, আর তারা ভবিষ্যদ্বাণী করবে।
and even upon My bondservants, both men and women, at that time, I will pour out My Spirit, and they shall prophesy.
19 ঊর্ধ্বাকাশে আমি দেখাব বিস্ময়কর সব লক্ষণ এবং নিচে পৃথিবীতে বিভিন্ন নিদর্শন, রক্ত ও আগুন এবং ধোঁয়ার কুণ্ডলী।
I will display marvels in the sky above, and signs on the earth below, blood and fire, and pillars of smoke.
20 প্রভুর সেই মহৎ ও মহিমাময় দিনের আগমনের পূর্বে, সূর্য অন্ধকার এবং চাঁদ রক্তবর্ণ হয়ে যাবে।
The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, to usher in the day of the Lord-- that great and illustrious day;
21 আর যে কেউ প্রভুর নামে ডাকবে, সেই পরিত্রাণ পাবে।’
and every one who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'
22 “হে ইস্রায়েলবাসী, একথা শুনুন, নাসরতীয় যীশু অনেক অলৌকিক কাজ, বিস্ময়কর ঘটনা ও নিদর্শনের মাধ্যমে প্রকাশ্যে আপনাদের কাছে ঈশ্বরের দ্বারা স্বীকৃত মানুষ ছিলেন। সেইসব কাজ ঈশ্বর তাঁরই মাধ্যমে সম্পন্ন করেছেন, যেমন আপনারা নিজেরাই অবগত আছেন।
"Listen, Israelites, to what I say. Jesus, the Nazarene, a man accredited to you from God by miracles and marvels and signs which God did among you through Him, as you yourselves know, Him--
23 সেই ব্যক্তিকে ঈশ্বর তাঁর নিরূপিত পরিকল্পনা ও পূর্বজ্ঞান অনুসারে তোমাদের হাতে সমর্পণ করেছিলেন, আর তোমরা দুর্জন ব্যক্তিদের সহায়তায় তাঁকে ক্রুশবিদ্ধ করে হত্যা করেছ।
delivered up through God's settled purpose and foreknowledge--you by the hands of Gentiles have nailed to a cross and have put to death.
24 কিন্তু ঈশ্বর তাঁকে মৃত্যুযন্ত্রণা থেকে মুক্ত করে মৃত্যুর কবল থেকে উত্থাপিত করেছেন, কারণ মৃত্যুর পক্ষে তাঁকে ধরে রাখা অসম্ভব ছিল।
But God has raised Him to life, having terminated the throes of death, for in fact it was not possible for Him to be held fast by death.
25 দাউদ তাঁর সম্পর্কে বলেছেন, “‘আমি প্রভুকে নিয়ত, আমার সামনে দেখেছি। কারণ, তিনি তো আমার ডানপাশে, আমি বিচলিত হব না।
For David says in reference to Him, "'I constantly fixed my eyes upon the Lord, because He is at my right hand in order that I may continue unshaken.
26 তাই আমার হৃদয় আনন্দিত এবং আমার জিভ উল্লাস করে; আমার দেহ প্রত্যাশায় বিশ্রাম নেবে,
For this reason my heart is glad and my tongue exults. My body also shall rest in hope.
27 কারণ তুমি কখনও আমাকে পাতালের গর্ভে পরিত্যাগ করবে না, তুমি তোমার পবিত্রজনকে ক্ষয় দেখতে দেবে না। (Hadēs g86)
For Thou wilt not leave me in the Unseen World forsaken, nor give up Thy holy One to undergo decay. (Hadēs g86)
28 তুমি আমার কাছে জীবনের পথ অবগত করেছ, তোমার সামনে আমায় আনন্দে পূর্ণ করবে।’
Thou hast made known to me the ways of Life: Thou wilt fill me with gladness in Thy presence.'
29 “হে ইস্রায়েলবাসী, আমি আপনাদের মুক্তকণ্ঠে বলতে পারি যে, পূর্বপুরুষ দাউদ মৃত্যুবরণ করেছিলেন ও তাঁকে কবর দেওয়া হয়েছিল; তাঁর কবর আজও এখানে আমাদের মধ্যে বিদ্যমান রয়েছে।
"As to the patriarch David, I need hardly remind you, brethren, that he died and was buried, and that we still have his tomb among us.
30 কিন্তু তিনি একজন ভাববাদী ছিলেন, আর তিনি জানতেন যে, ঈশ্বর শপথপূর্বক তাঁকে প্রতিশ্রুতি দান করেছেন, তিনি তাঁর এক সন্তানকে তাঁর সিংহাসনে স্থাপন করবেন।
Being a Prophet, however, and knowing that God had solemnly sworn to him to seat a descendant of his upon his throne,
31 ভবিষ্যতে কী ঘটবে তা আগেই দেখতে পেয়ে তিনি মশীহের পুনরুত্থান সম্পর্কে বলেছেন যে, তিনি পাতালের গর্ভে পরিত্যক্ত হবেন না, কিংবা তাঁর শরীর ক্ষয় দেখবে না। (Hadēs g86)
with prophetic foresight he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, to the effect that He was not left forsaken in the Unseen World, nor did His body undergo decay. (Hadēs g86)
32 এই যীশুকেই ঈশ্বর মৃত্যু থেকে জীবনে বাঁচিয়ে তুলেছেন এবং আমরা সকলেই এই ঘটনার সাক্ষী।
This Jesus, God has raised to life-- a fact to which all of us testify.
33 ঈশ্বরের ডানদিকে উন্নীত হয়ে তিনি পিতার কাছ থেকে প্রতিশ্রুত পবিত্র আত্মা লাভ করেছেন এবং আমাদের উপরে তাঁকে ঢেলে দিয়েছেন, যেমন আপনারা এখন দেখছেন ও শুনছেন।
"Being therefore lifted high by the mighty hand of God, He has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out this which you see and hear.
34 কিন্তু দাউদ নিজে স্বর্গে যাননি, তবুও তিনি বলেছেন, “‘প্রভু আমার প্রভুকে বললেন, তুমি আমার ডানদিকে বসো,
For David did not ascend into Heaven, but he says himself, "'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand
35 যতক্ষণ না আমি তোমার শত্রুদের তোমার পাদপীঠ করি।’
until I make thy foes a footstool under thy feet.'
36 “সেই কারণে, সমস্ত ইস্রায়েল এ বিষয়ে নিশ্চিত হোক: যে যীশুকে তোমরা ক্রুশে বিদ্ধ করেছ, ঈশ্বর তাঁকে প্রভু ও মশীহ, এই উভয়ই করেছেন।”
"Therefore let the whole House of Israel know beyond all doubt that God has made Him both LORD and CHRIST--this Jesus whom you crucified."
37 সকলে যখন একথা শুনল, তাদের হৃদয় ক্ষতবিক্ষত হল। তারা পিতর ও অন্য প্রেরিতশিষ্যদের বলল, “ভাইরা, আমরা কী করব?”
Stung to the heart by these words, they said to Peter and the rest of the Apostles, "Brethren, what are we to do?"
38 পিতর উত্তর দিলেন, “তোমরা প্রত্যেকে মন পরিবর্তন করো ও যীশু খ্রীষ্টের নামে বাপ্তিষ্ম গ্রহণ করো, যেন তোমাদের পাপ ক্ষমা হয়, তাহলে তোমরা ঈশ্বরের দানস্বরূপ পবিত্র আত্মা লাভ করবে।
"Repent," replied Peter, "and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, with a view to the remission of your sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 এই প্রতিশ্রুতি তোমাদের ও তোমাদের সন্তানদের জন্য এবং যারা দূরে আছে তাদের সকলের জন্য—সকলের জন্য যাদেরকে আমাদের ঈশ্বর প্রভু আহ্বান করবেন।”
For to you belongs the promise, and to your children, and to all who are far off, whoever the Lord our God may call."
40 আরও অনেক কথায় তিনি তাদের সতর্ক করে দিলেন এবং তিনি তাদের উপদেশ দিয়ে বললেন, “এই কলুষিত প্রজন্ম থেকে তোমরা নিজেদের রক্ষা করো।”
And with many more appeals he solemnly warned and entreated them, saying, "Escape from this crooked generation."
41 যারা তাঁর বাণী গ্রাহ্য করল, তারা বাপ্তিষ্ম গ্রহণ করল, আর সেদিন প্রায় তিন হাজার লোক তাদের সঙ্গে যুক্ত হল।
Those, therefore, who joyfully welcomed his Message were baptized; and on that one day about three thousand persons were added to them;
42 আর তারা প্রেরিতশিষ্যদের শিক্ষায় ও সহভাগিতায়, রুটি-ভাঙায় ও প্রার্থনায় একান্তভাবে অংশগ্রহণ করল।
and they were constant in listening to the teaching of the Apostles and in their attendance at the Communion, that is, the Breaking of the Bread, and at prayer.
43 প্রেরিতশিষ্যদের মাধ্যমে বহু আশ্চর্য ঘটনা ও অলৌকিক নিদর্শন সম্পন্ন হতে দেখে প্রত্যেকে ভক্তিপূর্ণ ভয়ে পূর্ণ হয়ে উঠল।
Fear came upon every one, and many marvels and signs were done by the Apostles.
44 যারা বিশ্বাস করল তারা সকলেই একসঙ্গে থাকত ও একই ভাণ্ডার থেকে তাদের প্রয়োজন মেটাতো।
And all the believers kept together, and had everything in common.
45 তাদের বিষয়সম্পত্তি ও জিনিসপত্র বিক্রি করে তাদের প্রত্যেকের প্রয়োজন অনুযায়ী তা ভাগ করে দিত।
They sold their lands and other property, and distributed the proceeds among all, according to every one's necessities.
46 প্রতিদিন তারা একসঙ্গে মন্দির-প্রাঙ্গণে মিলিত হত। তারা নিজেদের ঘরে রুটি ভাঙত এবং আনন্দের সঙ্গে ও হৃদয়ের সরলতায় একসঙ্গে খাওয়াদাওয়া করত।
And, day by day, attending constantly in the Temple with one accord, and breaking bread in private houses, they took their meals with great happiness and single-heartedness,
47 তারা ঈশ্বরের প্রশংসা করত এবং সব মানুষ তাদের শ্রদ্ধা করত। আর যারা পরিত্রাণ লাভ করল, প্রভু দিন-প্রতিদিন তাঁদের সঙ্গে পরিত্রাণপ্রাপ্তদের যুক্ত করে তাঁদের সংখ্যা বৃদ্ধি করলেন।
praising God and being regarded with favour by all the people. Also, day by day, the Lord added to their number those whom He was saving.
