1 পৌল ডার্বিতে গেলেন ও পরে লুস্ত্রায় এলেন। সেখানে তিমথি নামে একজন শিষ্য বসবাস করতেন। তাঁর মা ছিলেন একজন বিশ্বাসী ইহুদি, কিন্তু পিতা ছিলেন গ্রিক।
He also came to Derbe and to Lystra. At Lystra he found a disciple, Timothy by name--the son of a Christian Jewess, though he had a Greek father.
2 লুস্ত্রা ও ইকনিয়ের ভাইরা তাঁর সম্পর্কে সুখ্যাতি করতেন।
Timothy was well spoken of by the brethren at Lystra and Iconium,
3 পৌল চাইলেন যাত্রায় তাঁকেও সঙ্গে নিতে। তাই সেই অঞ্চলে বসবাসকারী ইহুদিদের জন্য তিনি তাঁকে সুন্নত করালেন, কারণ তারা সকলে জানত যে, তাঁর পিতা ছিলেন একজন গ্রিক।
and Paul desiring that he should accompany him on his journey, took him and circumcised him on account of the Jews in those parts, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.
4 এক নগর থেকে অন্য নগরে যাওয়ার সময়, তাঁরা জেরুশালেমের প্রেরিতশিষ্যবর্গ ও প্রাচীনদের গৃহীত সিদ্ধান্তগুলি তাদের জানালেন, যেন তারা সেসব পালন করে।
As they journeyed on from town to town, they handed to the brethren for their observance the decisions which had been arrived at by the Apostles and Elders in Jerusalem.
5 এভাবে মণ্ডলীগুলি বিশ্বাসে বলীয়ান হতে ও প্রতিদিন সংখ্যায় বৃদ্ধি পেতে থাকল।
So the Churches went on gaining a stronger faith and growing in numbers from day to day.
6 পবিত্র আত্মা তাঁদের এশিয়া প্রদেশে সুসমাচার প্রচার করতে বাধা দেওয়ায়, পৌল ও তাঁর সঙ্গীরা ফরুগিয়া ও গালাতিয়া অঞ্চলের সর্বত্র পরিভ্রমণ করলেন।
Then Paul and his companions passed through Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to proclaim the Message in the province of Asia.
7 মুশিয়া প্রদেশের সীমান্তে এসে তাঁরা বিথুনিয়ায় প্রবেশ করার চেষ্টা করলেন, কিন্তু যীশুর আত্মা তাঁদের অনুমতি দিলেন না।
When they reached the frontier of Mysia, they were about to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not permit this.
8 তাই তাঁরা মুশিয়াকে পাশ কাটিয়ে ত্রোয়াতে গিয়ে পৌঁছালেন।
So, passing along Mysia, they came to Troas.
9 রাত্রিবেলা পৌল এক দর্শন পেলেন, তিনি দেখলেন ম্যাসিডোনিয়ার একজন ব্যক্তি দাঁড়িয়ে তাঁর কাছে অনুনয় করছেন, “আপনি ম্যাসিডোনিয়ায় এসে আমাদের সাহায্য করুন।”
Here, one night, Paul saw a vision. There was a Macedonian who was standing, entreating him and saying, "Come over into Macedonia and help us."
10 পৌলের এই দর্শন পাওয়ার পর আমরা তখনই ম্যাসিডোনিয়ার উদ্দেশে যাত্রা করার জন্য প্রস্তুত হলাম। আমরা বুঝতে পেরেছিলাম যে, তাদের কাছে সুসমাচার প্রচার করার জন্য ঈশ্বর আমাদের আহ্বান করেছেন।
So when he had seen the vision, we immediately looked out for an opportunity of passing on into Macedonia, confidently inferring that God had called us to proclaim the Good News to the people there.
11 ত্রোয়া থেকে আমরা সরাসরি সামোথ্রেসের উদ্দেশে সমুদ্রপথে পাড়ি দিলাম। পরের দিন সেখান থেকে গেলাম নিয়াপলিতে।
Accordingly we put out to sea from Troas, and ran a straight course to Samothrace. The next day we came to Neapolis,
12 সেখান থেকে আমরা যাত্রা করলাম ফিলিপীতে। ফিলিপী নগরটি ছিল একটি রোমীয় উপনিবেশ এবং ম্যাসিডোনিয়া প্রদেশের একটি অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নগর। আমরা বেশ কিছুদিন সেখানে থাকলাম।
and thence to Philippi, which is a city in Macedonia, the first in its district, a Roman colony. And there we stayed some little time.
13 বিশ্রামদিনে আমরা নগরদ্বারের বাইরে নদীতীরে গেলাম। সেখানে প্রার্থনা করার কোনও উপযুক্ত স্থান পাওয়া যাবে বলে আশা করেছিলাম। আমরা সেখানে বসে পড়লাম ও সমবেত মহিলাদের সঙ্গে কথা বললাম।
On the Sabbath we went beyond the city gate to the riverside, where we had reason to believe that there was a place for prayer; and sitting down we talked with the women who had come together.
14 যারা আমাদের কথা শুনছিলেন তাদের মধ্যে লিডিয়া নামে এক মহিলা ছিলেন। থুয়াতীরা নগরের বেগুনি কাপড়ের ব্যবসায়ী এই মহিলাটি ছিলেন ঈশ্বরের উপাসক। পৌলের বার্তায় মনোনিবেশ করার জন্য প্রভু তাঁর হৃদয় খুলে দিলেন।
Among our hearers was one named Lydia, a dealer in purple goods. She belonged to the city of Thyateira, and was a worshipper of the true God. The Lord opened her heart, so that she gave attention to what Paul was saying.
15 যখন তিনি ও তাঁর পরিজনেরা বাপ্তিষ্ম গ্রহণ করলেন, তিনি আমাদের তাঁর বাড়িতে আমন্ত্রণ জানালেন। তিনি বললেন, “আপনারা যদি আমাকে প্রভুতে বিশ্বাসী বলে মনে করেন, তাহলে এসে আমার বাড়িতে থাকুন।” তিনি আমাদের বুঝিয়ে রাজি করালেন।
When she and her household had been baptized, she urged us, saying, "If in your judgement I am a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my house." And she made us go there.
16 একদিন যখন আমরা প্রার্থনা-স্থানে যাচ্ছিলাম, এক ক্রীতদাসীর সঙ্গে আমাদের সাক্ষাৎ হল। সে ভবিষ্যৎ বলতে পারে এমন আত্মার প্রভাবে ভবিষ্যতের কথা বলতে পারত। ভবিষ্যতের কথা বলে সে তার মনিবদের জন্য প্রচুর অর্থ উপার্জন করত।
One day, as we were on our way to the place of prayer, a slave girl met us who claimed to be inspired and was accustomed to bring her owners large profits by telling fortunes.
17 সেই মেয়েটি পৌল ও আমাদের সকলকে অনুসরণ করতে লাগল। সে চিৎকার করে বলতে লাগল, “এই লোকেরা পরাৎপর ঈশ্বরের দাস, তোমাদের কাছে পরিত্রাণের উপায়ের কথা বলছেন।”
She kept following close behind Paul and the rest of us, crying aloud, "These men are the bondservants of the Most High God, and are proclaiming to you the way of salvation."
18 বহুদিন যাবৎ সে এরকম করতে থাকল। শেষে পৌল এত উত্যক্ত হয়ে উঠলেন যে, তিনি ফিরে সেই আত্মার উদ্দেশে বললেন, “আমি যীশু খ্রীষ্টের নামে তোমাকে আদেশ দিচ্ছি, ওর মধ্য থেকে বেরিয়ে এসো।” সেই মুহূর্তেই সেই আত্মা তাকে ছেড়ে চলে গেল।
This she persisted in for a considerable time, until Paul, wearied out, turned round and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And it came out immediately.
19 সেই ক্রীতদাসীর মনিবেরা যখন বুঝতে পারল যে, তাদের অর্থ উপার্জনের আশা শেষ হয়েছে, তারা পৌল ও সীলকে ধরে টানতে টানতে বাজারে কর্তৃপক্ষের সামনে উপস্থিত করল।
But when her owners saw that their hopes of gain were gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them off to the magistrates in the public square.
20 তারা নগরের প্রশাসকদের সামনে তাঁদের নিয়ে এসে বলল, “এই ব্যক্তিরা ইহুদি। এরা আমাদের নগরে গণ্ডগোলের সৃষ্টি করেছে।
Then they brought them before the praetors. "These men," they said, "are creating a great disturbance in our city.
21 এরা এমন সব রীতিনীতির কথা বলছে, যা আমাদের, রোমীয়দের পক্ষে গ্রহণ বা পালন করা ন্যায়সংগত নয়।”
They are Jews, and are teaching customs which we, as Romans, are not permitted to adopt or practise."
22 জনসাধারণ পৌল ও সীলের বিরুদ্ধে আক্রমণে যোগ দিল। প্রশাসকেরা তাদের পোশাক খুলে তাদের চাবুক মারার আদেশ দিলেন।
The crowd, too, joined in the outcry against them, till at length the praetors ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods;
23 চাবুক দিয়ে তাঁদের অনেক মারার পর কারাগারে বন্দি করা হল। কারারক্ষককে আদেশ দেওয়া হল যেন তাঁদের সতর্কভাবে পাহারা দেওয়া হয়।
and, after severely flogging them, they threw them into jail and bade the jailer keep them safely.
24 এই ধরনের আদেশ পেয়ে, সে তাঁদের কারাগারের ভিতরের ঘরে নিয়ে গেল এবং কাঠের বেড়ির মধ্যে তাঁদের পা আটকে দিল।
He, having received an order like that, lodged them in the inner prison, and secured their feet in the stocks.
25 প্রায় মাঝরাতে পৌল ও সীল প্রার্থনা এবং ঈশ্বরের উদ্দেশে স্তবগান করছিলেন। অন্য কারাবন্দিরা তা শুনছিল।
About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them,
26 হঠাৎই সেখানে এমন এক ভয়ংকর ভূমিকম্প হল যে, কারাগারের ভিত পর্যন্ত কেঁপে উঠল। সঙ্গে সঙ্গে কারাগারের সব দরজা খুলে গেল এবং বন্দিদের শিকল খসে পড়ল।
when suddenly there was such a violent shock of earthquake that the prison shook to its foundations. Instantly the doors all flew open, and the chains fell off from every prisoner.
27 কারারক্ষক জেগে উঠল। সে যখন কারাগারের দরজাগুলি খোলা দেখল, তখন সে তার তরোয়াল কোষ থেকে বের করে আত্মহত্যায় উদ্যত হল, কারণ সে ভেবেছিল যে বন্দিরা পালিয়ে গেছে।
Starting up from sleep and seeing the doors of the jail wide open, the jailer drew his sword and was on the point of killing himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.
28 কিন্তু পৌল চিৎকার করে বললেন, “তুমি নিজের ক্ষতি কোরো না! কারণ আমরা সবাই এখানেই আছি!”
But Paul shouted loudly to him, saying, "Do yourself no injury: we are all here.
29 কারারক্ষক আলো আনতে বলে দ্রুত ভিতরে প্রবেশ করল। সে কাঁপতে কাঁপতে পৌল ও সীলের সামনে লুটিয়ে পড়ল।
Then, calling for lights, he sprang in and fell trembling at the feet of Paul and Silas;
30 তারপর সে তাঁদের বাইরে এনে জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “মহাশয়েরা, পরিত্রাণ পাওয়ার জন্য আমাকে কী করতে হবে?”
and, bringing them out of the prison, he exclaimed, "O sirs, what must I do to be saved?"
31 তাঁরা উত্তর দিলেন, “প্রভু যীশুতে বিশ্বাস করো, তাহলে তুমি ও তোমার পরিবার পরিত্রাণ পাবে।”
"Believe on the Lord Jesus," they replied, "and both you and your household will be saved."
32 তারপর তাঁরা তার কাছে ও তার বাড়ির অন্য সকলের কাছে প্রভুর বাক্য প্রচার করলেন।
And they told the Lord's Message to him as well as to all who were in his house.
33 রাত্রির সেই প্রহরেই, কারারক্ষক তাঁদের নিয়ে গিয়ে তাঁদের ক্ষত ধুয়ে দিল। তারপর দেরি না করে সে ও তার সমস্ত পরিবার বাপ্তিষ্ম গ্রহণ করল।
Then he took them, even at that time of night, washed their wounds, and he and all his household were immediately baptized;
34 সেই কারারক্ষক তার বাড়ির ভিতরে তাঁদের নিয়ে গেল ও তাদের সামনে খাবার পরিবেশন করল। সে ও তার পরিবারের সকলে আনন্দে পরিপূর্ণ হল, কারণ তারা ঈশ্বরকে বিশ্বাস করেছিল।
and bringing the Apostles up into his house, he spread a meal for them, and was filled with gladness, with his whole household, his faith resting on God.
35 দিনের আলো দেখা দিলে, প্রশাসকেরা কারারক্ষকের কাছে তাঁদের কর্মচারীদের পাঠিয়ে দিয়ে আদেশ দিলেন, “ওই লোকদের মুক্ত করে দাও।”
In the morning the praetors sent their lictors with the order, "Release those men."
36 কারারক্ষক পৌলকে বললেন, “প্রশাসকেরা আপনাকে ও সীলকে মুক্ত করার আদেশ দিয়েছেন। এখন আপনারা চলে যেতে পারেন। শান্তিতে প্রস্থান করুন।”
So the jailer brought Paul word, saying, "The praetors have sent orders for you to be released. Now therefore you can go, and proceed on your way in peace."
37 কিন্তু পৌল সেই কর্মচারীদের বললেন, “আমরা রোমীয় নাগরিক হওয়া সত্ত্বেও তাঁরা বিনা বিচারে সবার সামনে আমাদের মেরেছে ও কারাগারে বন্দি করেছে। এখন তাঁরা গোপনে আমাদের থেকে অব্যাহতি পেতে চাইছেন? না, তাঁরা নিজেরা এখানে এসে আমাদের বের করে নিয়ে যান।”
But Paul said to them, "After cruelly beating us in public, without trial, Roman citizens though we are, they have thrown us into prison, and are they now going to send us away privately? No, indeed! Let them come in person and fetch us out."
38 কর্মচারীরা একথা গিয়ে প্রশাসকদের জানাল। তাঁরা যখন শুনলেন যে, পৌল ও সীল রোমীয় নাগরিক, তাঁরা আতঙ্কিত হলেন।
This answer the lictors took back to the praetors, who were alarmed when they were told that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens.
39 তাঁরা এসে তাঁদের শান্ত করলেন এবং কারাগার থেকে সঙ্গে করে তাঁদের বের করে এনে অনুরোধ করলেন, তাঁরা যেন নগর ছেড়ে চলে যান।
Accordingly they came and apologized to them; and, bringing them out, asked them to leave the city.
40 পৌল ও সীল কারাগার থেকে বের হয়ে আসার পর, তাঁরা লিডিয়ার বাড়ি চলে গেলেন। সেখানে তাঁরা বিশ্বাসী ভাইদের সঙ্গে মিলিত হয়ে তাদের উৎসাহিত করলেন। তারপর তারা সেখান থেকে চলে গেলেন।
Then Paul and Silas, having come out of the prison, went to Lydia's house; and, after seeing the brethren and encouraging them, they left Philippi.
