1 ইকনিয়তে পৌল ও বার্ণবা যথারীতি ইহুদিদের সমাজভবনে গেলেন। সেখানে তারা এমনভাবে কথা বললেন যে, এক বিপুল সংখ্যক ইহুদি ও গ্রিক বিশ্বাস করল।
And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spoke that a great multitude of the Jews and Greeks believed.
2 কিন্তু যে ইহুদিরা বিশ্বাস করতে চাইল না, তারা অইহুদিদের উত্তেজিত করে তুলল এবং ভাইদের বিরুদ্ধে তাদের মন বিষিয়ে তুলল।
But the unbelieving Jews excited and embittered the minds of the Gentiles against the brethren.
3 তাই পৌল ও বার্ণবা সেখানে বেশ কিছুদিন কাটালেন। তাঁরা সাহসের সঙ্গে প্রভুর কথা প্রচার করতে লাগলেন। আর প্রভুও তাঁদের মাধ্যমে বিভিন্ন অলৌকিক নিদর্শন দেখিয়ে ও বিস্ময়কর কাজ সম্পন্ন করে তাঁর অনুগ্রহের বার্তার সত্যতা প্রমাণ করলেন।
Therefore, they continued a long time, and spoke boldly in the Lord, who gave testimony to the word of his grace, by granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
4 সেই নগরের লোকেরা দুদলে ভাগ হয়ে গেল; কিছু লোক ইহুদিদের, অন্যেরা প্রেরিতশিষ্যদের পক্ষসমর্থন করল।
But the multitude of the city were divided; and some were with the Jews, and some with the apostles.
5 অইহুদি ও ইহুদিরা, তাদের নেতৃবৃন্দের সঙ্গে এক হয়ে ষড়যন্ত্র করল যে তারা তাঁদের প্রতি দুর্ব্যবহার করবে ও তাঁদের পাথর দিয়ে মারবে।
But when there was a violent purpose on the part of the Gentiles and of the Jews, with their rulers, to outrage and to stone them,
6 কিন্তু তাঁরা একথা জানতে পেরে লুকায়োনিয়ার লুস্ত্রা ও ডার্বি নগরে এবং পারিপার্শ্বিক অঞ্চলগুলিতে পালিয়ে গেলেন।
being aware of it, they fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra, and Derbe, and to the region round about,
7 আর সেখানে তাঁরা সুসমাচার প্রচার করতে থাকলেন।
and there they preached the gospel.
8 লুস্ত্রায় একটি খোঁড়া মানুষ বসে থাকত। সে ছিল জন্ম থেকেই খোঁড়া। সে কখনও হাঁটেনি।
And there was a certain man in Lystra, without strength in his feet, who sat, for he was a cripple from his mother’s womb, and had never walked.
9 সে পৌলের প্রচার শুনছিল। পৌল সরাসরি তার দিকে তাকালেন ও দেখলেন যে সুস্থ হওয়ার জন্য তার বিশ্বাস আছে।
This man heard Paul speak, who, looking earnestly on him, and seeing that he had faith to be saved,
10 তিনি উচ্চকণ্ঠে বললেন, “তোমার পায়ে ভর দিয়ে উঠে দাঁড়াও!” এতে সেই ব্যক্তি লাফ দিয়ে উঠল ও হেঁটে বেড়াতে লাগল।
said, with a loud voice: Stand erect upon your feet. And he leaped and walked.
11 পৌলের এই অলৌকিক কাজ দেখে জনতা লুকায়োনীয় ভাষায় চিৎকার করে বলতে লাগল, “দেবতারা মানুষের রূপ ধরে আমাদের মধ্যে নেমে এসেছেন!”
When the multitude saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice, and said, in the Lycaonian language: The Gods have come down to us in the likeness of men.
12 বার্ণবাকে তারা বলল জুপিটর এবং পৌল প্রধান বক্তা ছিলেন বলে তাঁর নাম দিল মার্কারি।
And they called Barnabas, Jupiter, and Paul, Mercury, for he was the chief speaker.
13 নগরের ঠিক বাইরেই ছিল জিউসের মন্দির। সেখানকার পুরোহিত ষাঁড় ও ফুলের মালা নগরের প্রবেশপথে নিয়ে এল, কারণ সে ও সমস্ত লোক তাদের উদ্দেশে বলি উৎসর্গ করতে চাইল।
Then the priest of Jupiter, whose temple was before the city, having brought bulls and garlands to the entrance, intended to offer sacrifice, with the multitudes.
14 কিন্তু প্রেরিতশিষ্যেরা, বার্ণবা ও পৌল যখন একথা শুনলেন, তাঁরা তাদের পোশাক ছিঁড়লেন। তাঁরা দ্রুত জনতার কাছে ছুটে গিয়ে চিৎকার করে বললেন,
But when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the multitude, crying out,
15 “বন্ধুগণ, আপনারা কেন এরকম করছেন? আমরাও মানুষ, আপনাদেরই মতো মানুষমাত্র। আমরা আপনাদের কাছে এই সুসমাচার নিয়ে এসেছি ও আপনাদের বলছি যে, এসব অসার বস্তু থেকে জীবন্ত ঈশ্বরের প্রতি ফিরে আসতে যিনি আকাশমণ্ডল ও পৃথিবী, সমুদ্র ও সেগুলির মধ্যে যা কিছু আছে সেসব সৃষ্টি করেছেন।
and saying: Men, why are you doing these things? We also are human beings, with passions like your own, and we preach the gospel to you, that you may turn from these vanities to the living God, who made the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all things that are in them;
16 অতীতে, তিনি সব জাতিকেই তাদের ইচ্ছামতো জীবনাচরণ করতে দিয়েছেন।
who, in past generations, permitted all the nations to walk in their own ways;
17 তবুও তিনি নিজেকে সাক্ষ্যবিহীন রাখেননি। তিনি আকাশ থেকে বৃষ্টি ও বিভিন্ন ঋতুতে শস্য উৎপাদন করে তাঁর করুণা দেখিয়েছেন। তিনি আপনাদের প্রচুর খাদ্যসামগ্রী দান করেছেন ও আপনাদের অন্তর আনন্দে পরিপূর্ণ করেছেন।”
and yet he did not leave himself without testimony, doing good, and giving you rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.
18 এসব কথা বলা সত্ত্বেও, তাঁদের উদ্দেশে বলি উৎসর্গ করা থেকে জনতাকে নিবৃত্ত করতে তাঁরা বেগ পেলেন।
And with these words they hardly restrained the multitudes from offering sacrifice to them.
19 এরপর আন্তিয়খ ও ইকনিয় থেকে কয়েকজন ইহুদি এসে জনতাকে প্রভাবিত করল। তারা পৌলকে পাথর দিয়ে আঘাত করল ও নগরের বাইরে টেনে নিয়ে গেল, ভাবল তিনি মারা গেছেন।
Then came thither, from Antioch and Iconium, Jews, who persuaded the multitudes; and having stoned Paul, they dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead.
20 কিন্তু শিষ্যেরা তাঁর চারপাশে একত্র হলে, তিনি উঠে দাঁড়ালেন এবং নগরের মধ্যে ফিরে গেলেন। পরের দিন তিনি ও বার্ণবা ডার্বির উদ্দেশে রওনা হলেন।
But while the disciples were standing around him, he arose, and went into the city. And on the next day, he departed with Barnabas to Derbe;
21 তাঁরা সেই নগরে সুসমাচার প্রচার করলেন এবং বিপুল সংখ্যক মানুষকে শিষ্য করলেন। তারপর তারা লুস্ত্রা, ইকনিয় ও আন্তিয়খে ফিরে এলেন।
and when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, and to Iconium, and to Antioch,
22 তাঁরা শিষ্যদের শক্তি জোগালেন ও বিশ্বাসে স্থির থাকার জন্য তাঁদের প্রেরণা দিলেন। তাঁরা বললেন, “ঈশ্বরের রাজ্যে প্রবেশ করার জন্য আমাদের অবশ্যই বহু কষ্টভোগ করতে হবে।”
strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, that through many afflictions we mast enter the kingdom of God.
23 পৌল ও বার্ণবা প্রত্যেকটি মণ্ডলীতে তাঁদের জন্য প্রাচীনদের মনোনীত করলেন। যে প্রভুর উপরে তাঁরা আস্থা স্থাপন করেছিলেন, প্রার্থনা ও উপোসের মাধ্যমে তাঁরই কাছে তাঁদের সমর্পণ করলেন।
And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.
24 পিষিদিয়া অতিক্রম করে তাঁরা গেলেন পাম্ফুলিয়ায়।
And having passed through Pisidia, they came into Pamphylia;
25 পরে পর্গায় বাক্য প্রচার করে তাঁরা অত্তালিয়াতে চলে গেলেন।
and when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia:
26 অত্তালিয়া থেকে তাঁরা সমুদ্রপথে আন্তিয়খে ফিরে এলেন। তাঁরা যে প্রচারকাজ সম্পাদন করেছিলেন তার জন্য এখান থেকেই ঈশ্বরের অনুগ্রহের অধীনে তাঁদের সমর্পণ করা হয়েছিল।
thence they sailed to Antioch, from which place they had been commended to the grace of God, for the work which they had accomplished.
27 সেখানে পৌঁছে তাঁরা মণ্ডলীকে একত্রিত করলেন। ঈশ্বর যা কিছু তাঁদের মাধ্যমে সম্পন্ন করেছিলেন ও যেভাবে তিনি অইহুদিদের কাছে বিশ্বাসের দরজা খুলে দিয়েছিলেন, সেই সংবাদ তাঁদের কাছে পরিবেশন করলেন।
And having come and called together the church, they reported all that God had done with them, and that he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.
28 এরপর তাঁরা সেখানে শিষ্যদের সঙ্গে অনেকদিন কাটালেন।
And they continued a long time with the disciples.
