1 প্রায় এরকম সময়ে রাজা হেরোদ মণ্ডলীর কয়েকজনকে নির্যাতন করার উদ্দেশ্যে গ্রেপ্তার করলেন।
Now about that time, Herod the king stretched out his hands to oppress some of the church.
2 তিনি যোহনের ভাই যাকোবকে তরোয়ালের আঘাতে হত্যা করলেন।
He killed James, the brother of John, with the sword.
3 এতে ইহুদিরা সন্তুষ্ট হল দেখে তিনি পিতরকেও বন্দি করার আদেশ দিলেন। খামিরশূন্য রুটির পর্বের সময়ে এই ঘটনা ঘটল।
When he saw that it pleased the Jewish people, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This was during the days of unleavened bread.
4 তাঁকে গ্রেপ্তার করে তিনি কারাগারে রাখলেন। এক-একটি দলে চারজন করে সৈন্য, এমন চারটি দলের উপরে তিনি তাঁর পাহারার ভার দিলেন। হেরোদের উদ্দেশ্য ছিল, নিস্তারপর্বের পরে তাঁকে নিয়ে এসে সবার সামনে তাঁর বিচার করবেন।
When he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of four soldiers each to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the Passover.
5 এভাবে পিতরকে কারাগারে রেখে দেওয়া হল, কিন্তু মণ্ডলী আন্তরিকতার সঙ্গে তাঁর জন্য ঈশ্বরের কাছে প্রার্থনা করছিল।
Peter therefore was kept in the prison, but constant prayer was made by the church to God for him.
6 হেরোদ সবার সামনে যেদিন তাঁর বিচারের দিন স্থির করেছিলেন, তার আগের রাতে পিতর দুজন সৈন্যের মাঝখানে দুটি শিকলে বাঁধা অবস্থায় ঘুমিয়েছিলেন। প্রহরীরা প্রবেশপথে পাহারা দিচ্ছিল।
The same night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains. Guards in front of the door kept the prison.
7 হঠাৎই প্রভুর এক দূত সেখানে আবির্ভূত হলেন এবং কারাগারে এক আলো প্রকাশ পেল। তিনি পিতরের বুকের পাশে আঘাত করে তাঁকে জাগিয়ে তুললেন। তিনি বললেন, “তাড়াতাড়ি করো, উঠে পড়ো!” তখন পিতরের দু-হাতের কব্জি থেকে শিকল খসে পড়ল।
And look, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side, and woke him up, saying, "Stand up quickly." His chains fell off from his hands.
8 তারপর সেই দূত তাঁকে বললেন, “তুমি তোমার জামাকাপড় ও চটিজুতো পরে নাও।” পিতর তাই করলেন। দূত তাঁকে বললেন, “তোমার আলখাল্লা তোমার গায়ে জড়িয়ে নাও ও আমাকে অনুসরণ করো।”
The angel said to him, "Get dressed and put on your sandals." He did so. He said to him, "Put on your cloak, and follow me."
9 পিতর তাঁকে অনুসরণ করে কারাগারের বাইরে এলেন, কিন্তু দূত যা করছেন, তা সত্যিই বাস্তবে ঘটছে কি না, সে বিষয়ে কোনও ধারণা করতে পারলেন না। তিনি ভাবলেন যে তিনি কোনো দর্শন দেখছেন।
And he went out and followed him. He did not know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he saw a vision.
10 তাঁরা প্রথম ও দ্বিতীয় প্রহরীদলকে অতিক্রম করে যেখান দিয়ে নগরে যাওয়া যায় সেই লোহার দরজার সামনে এসে উপস্থিত হলেন। সেই দরজা তাঁদের জন্য আপনা-আপনি খুলে গেল, তাঁরা তার মধ্য দিয়ে পার হয়ে গেলেন। তাঁরা যখন একটি পথের শেষ প্রান্ত পর্যন্ত হেঁটে পার হলেন, হঠাৎই দূত তাঁকে ছেড়ে চলে গেলেন।
When they were past the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate that leads into the city, which opened to them by itself. They went out, and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him.
11 তখন পিতর তাঁর চেতনা ফিরে পেলেন ও বললেন, “এখন আমি নিঃসন্দেহে বুঝতে পারছি যে, প্রভুই তাঁর দূত পাঠিয়ে আমাকে হেরোদের কবল থেকে এবং ইহুদি জনসাধারণের সমস্ত আকাঙ্ক্ষা থেকে উদ্ধার করেছেন।”
When Peter had come to himself, he said, "Now I truly know that the Lord has sent out his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from everything the Jewish people were expecting."
12 এই বিষয় তাঁর উপলব্ধি হওয়ার পর, তিনি মার্ক নামে পরিচিত সেই যোহনের মা মরিয়মের বাড়িতে গেলেন। সেখানে অনেকে একত্র হয়ে প্রার্থনা করছিল।
Thinking about that, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying.
13 পিতর বাইরের দরজায় করাঘাত করলে রোদা নামে এক দাসী সাড়া দিতে দরজার কাছে এল।
And when Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer.
14 সে যখন পিতরের কণ্ঠস্বর চিনতে পারল, আনন্দের আতিশয্যে দরজা না খুলেই দৌড়ে ফিরে গেল ও চিৎকার করে বলে উঠল, “পিতর দরজার সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে আছেন।”
When she recognized Peter's voice, she did not open the gate for joy, but ran in, and reported that Peter was standing in front of the gate.
15 তারা তাকে বলল, “তোমার মাথা খারাপ হয়েছে।” কিন্তু যখন সে জোর দিয়ে বলতে লাগল যে তার কথাই সত্যি, তারা বলল, “উনি নিশ্চয়ই তাঁর দূত।”
They said to her, "You are crazy." But she insisted that it was so. They said, "It is his angel."
16 পিতর কিন্তু ক্রমাগত দরজায় করাঘাত করে যাচ্ছিলেন। তারা দরজা খুলে যখন তাঁকে দেখতে পেল, তারা বিস্মিত হল।
But Peter continued knocking. When they had opened, they saw him, and were amazed.
17 পিতর হাতের ইশারায় তাদের শান্ত হতে বললেন। তারপর বর্ণনা করলেন, প্রভু কীভাবে তাঁকে কারাগার থেকে বাইরে এনেছেন। তিনি বললেন, “তোমরা এই ঘটনার কথা যাকোবকে ও সেই ভাইদের বলো,” একথা বলে তিনি অন্য স্থানের উদ্দেশে চলে গেলেন।
But he, beckoning to them with his hand to be silent, declared to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. He said, "Tell these things to James, and to the brothers." Then he departed, and went to another place.
18 সকালবেলা, পিতরের কী হল, ভেবে সৈন্যদের মধ্যে উত্তেজনার ঝড় বয়ে গেল।
Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers about what had become of Peter.
19 তাঁর জন্য হেরোদ তন্নতন্ন অনুসন্ধান করার পরেও তাঁকে খুঁজে না পেয়ে তিনি প্রহরীদের জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করলেন ও তাদের প্রাণদণ্ডের আদেশ দিলেন। এরপরে হেরোদ যিহূদিয়া থেকে কৈসরিয়ায় চলে গেলেন ও সেখানে কিছুকাল থাকলেন।
When Herod had sought for him, and did not find him, he examined the guards, and commanded that they should be put to death. He went down from Judea to Caesarea, and stayed there.
20 টায়ার ও সীদোনের জনগণের সঙ্গে তাঁর বিরোধ চলছিল। তারা এসময় জোটবদ্ধ হয়ে তাঁর কাছে এল যেন তিনি তাদের কথা শোনেন। রাজার শয়নাগারের একজন দাস ব্লাস্ত-এর সমর্থন আদায় করে তারা সন্ধির প্রস্তাব করল, কারণ তাদের খাদ্যসামগ্রী সরবরাহের জন্য তারা রাজার দেশের উপরে নির্ভর করত।
Now Herod was very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon. They came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus, the king's personal aide, their friend, they asked for peace, because their country depended on the king's country for food.
21 পরে, এক নির্ধারিত দিনে হেরোদ, তাঁর রাজকীয় পোশাক পরে তাঁর সিংহাসনে বসলেন। তিনি প্রকাশ্যে জনগণের উদ্দেশে এক ভাষণ দিলেন।
On an appointed day, Herod dressed himself in royal clothing, and sat on the throne, and gave a speech to them.
22 তারা চিৎকার করে বলল, “এ তো এক দেবতার কণ্ঠস্বর, মানুষের নয়।”
But the crowd shouted, "The voice of a god, and not of a man."
23 হেরোদ ঈশ্বরকে গৌরব প্রদান না করায়, সেই মুহূর্তেই, প্রভুর এক দূত তাঁকে আঘাত করলেন, ফলে তাঁর সর্বাঙ্গ পোকায় ছেয়ে গেল। পোকায় তাঁকে খেয়ে ফেলল ও তাঁর মৃত্যু হল।
Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died.
24 কিন্তু ঈশ্বরের বাক্য উত্তরোত্তর বৃদ্ধি পেতে ও প্রসার লাভ করতে লাগল।
But the word of God grew and multiplied.
25 যখন বার্ণবা ও শৌল তাঁদের পরিচর্যা কাজ শেষ করলেন, তাঁরা জেরুশালেম থেকে ফিরে এলেন। সঙ্গে তাঁরা যোহনকে নিয়ে এলেন যাকে মার্ক বলেও ডাকা হত।
Barnabas and Saul returned to Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their service, also taking with them John whose surname was Mark.
