শমূয়েলের দ্বিতীয় বই 5
1 ইস্রায়েলের সব গোষ্ঠী হিব্রোণে দাউদের কাছে এসে বলল, “আমরা আপনারই রক্তমাংস।
Then came all the tribes of Israel unto David, in Hebron, —and spake, saying—Behold us! thy bone and thy flesh, we are.
2 অতীতে, শৌল যখন আমাদের উপর রাজা ছিলেন, আপনিই তো ইস্রায়েলের সামরিক অভিযানে তাদের নেতৃত্ব দিতেন। সদাপ্রভু আপনাকে বললেন, ‘তুমি আমার প্রজা ইস্রায়েলের পালক হবে, ও তুমিই তাদের শাসক হবে।’”
Also, in time past, when Saul was king over us, thou, wast he that led out and brought in, Israel, —and Yahweh said to thee—Thou, shalt be shepherd unto my people, Israel, and, thou, shalt become leader over Israel.
3 ইস্রায়েলের প্রাচীনেরা সবাই যখন হিব্রোণে রাজা দাউদের কাছে এলেন, রাজা তখন সদাপ্রভুকে সাক্ষী রেখে হিব্রোণে তাদের সাথে একটি চুক্তি করলেন, ও তারা দাউদকে ইস্রায়েলের উপর রাজারূপে অভিষিক্ত করলেন।
So all the elders of Israel came unto the king, in Hebron, and King David solemnised to them a covenant in Hebron, before Yahweh, —and they anointed David to be king over Israel.
4 দাউদ যখন রাজা হলেন তখন তাঁর বয়স তিরিশ বছর, ও তিনি চল্লিশ বছর রাজত্ব করলেন।
Thirty years old, was David when he began to reign, —forty years, he reigned:
5 হিব্রোণে যিহূদার উপর তিনি সাত বছর ছয় মাস রাজত্ব করলেন, এবং জেরুশালেমে ইস্রায়েল ও যিহূদার উপর তিনি তেত্রিশ বছর রাজত্ব করলেন।
in Hebron, reigned he over Judah, seven years, and six months, —and, in Jerusalem, reigned he thirty and three years, over all Israel and Judah.
6 রাজামশাই ও তাঁর লোকজন সেই যিবূষীয়দের আক্রমণ করার জন্য জেরুশালেমের দিকে যুদ্ধযাত্রা করলেন, যারা সেখানে বসবাস করত। যিবূষীয়রা দাউদকে বলল, “আপনি এখানে ঢুকতে পারবেন না; এমনকি অন্ধ ও খঞ্জ লোকরাও আপনাকে তাড়িয়ে দেবে।”
Then went the king and his men, to Jerusalem, against the Jebusites, inhabiting the land, —and they spake to David, saying—Thou canst not come in hither, unless thou take away the blind and lame—Thinking, David will not come in hither.
7 তা সত্ত্বেও, দাউদ সিয়োনের দুর্গটি দখল করলেন—যেটি হল দাউদ-নগর।
So then David captured the citadel of Zion, —the same, is the city of David.
8 সেদিন দাউদ বললেন, “যে কেউ যিবূষীয়দের অধিকার করবে, তাকে সেইসব ‘খঞ্জ ও অন্ধের’ কাছে পৌঁছানোর জন্য জল-সুড়ঙ্গপথ ব্যবহার করতে হবে, যারা দাউদের শত্রুবিশেষ।” এজন্যই তারা বলে, “‘অন্ধ ও খঞ্জেরা’ প্রাসাদে প্রবেশ করবে না।”
And David said, on that day—Whosoever is smiting the Jebusites, then let him reach as far as the aqueduct. But, as for the lame and the blind, they were the hated of David’s soul, —for which cause, they kept on saying, Blind and lame! he will not enter the place.
9 দাউদ পরে দুর্গটিকেই নিজের বাসস্থান বানিয়ে সেটির নাম দিলেন দাউদ-নগর। তিনি ভিতরের দিকে চাতাল থেকে সেটির চারপাশ ঘিরে দিলেন।
So then David dwelt in the citadel, and called it, The City of David, —and David built round about, from Millo and inwards.
10 তিনি দিন দিন আরও শক্তিশালী হয়ে উঠেছিলেন, কারণ সর্বশক্তিমান ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু তাঁর সঙ্গে ছিলেন।
And David went on and on waxing great, —Yahweh, God of hosts, being with him.
11 আবার সোরের রাজা হীরম দাউদের কাছে দেবদারু জাতীয় কাঠের গুঁড়ি, ছুতোর ও রাজমিস্ত্রি সমেত কয়েকজন দূত পাঠিয়ে দিলেন, এবং তারা দাউদের জন্য এক প্রাসাদ তৈরি করল।
Then Hiram, king of Tyre, sent messengers unto David, with cedar-wood, and carpenters, and masons, and they built a house for David.
12 তখন দাউদ বুঝতে পেরেছিলেন যে সদাপ্রভু ইস্রায়েলের উপর তাঁর রাজপদ স্থির করেছেন এবং তাঁর প্রজা ইস্রায়েলের জন্য তাঁর রাজ্যের উন্নতি করেছেন।
So David perceived that Yahweh had established him to be king over Israel, —and that he had exalted his kingdom, for the sake of his people Israel.
13 হিব্রোণ ছেড়ে আসার পর দাউদ জেরুশালেমে আরও কয়েকজনকে স্ত্রী ও উপপত্নীরূপে গ্রহণ করলেন, এবং তাঁর আরও কয়েকটি ছেলেমেয়ের জন্ম হল।
And David took him yet more concubines and wives, out of Jerusalem, after he had come from Hebron, and there were, yet further, born unto David, sons and daughters.
14 সেখানে তাঁর যেসব সন্তানের জন্ম হল তারা হল: শম্মূয়, শোবব, নাথন, শলোমন,
Now, these, are the names of the sons who were born unto him in Jerusalem, —Shammua and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon;
15 যিভর, ইলীশূয়, নেফগ, যাফিয়,
and Ibhar and Elishua and Nepheg and Yaphia;
16 ইলীশামা, ইলিয়াদা ও ইলীফেলট।
and Elishama and Eliada, and Eliphalet.
17 ফিলিস্তিনীরা যখন শুনতে পেয়েছিল দাউদ ইস্রায়েলের উপর রাজারূপে অভিষিক্ত হয়েছেন, তখন সর্বশক্তি প্রয়োগ করে তারা তাঁকে খুঁজতে শুরু করল, কিন্তু দাউদ সেকথা শুনে দুর্গে নেমে গেলেন।
And, when the Philistine heard that they had anointed David to be king over Israel, then came up all the Philistines to seek to secure David, and David heard of it, and went down into the citadel.
18 ফিলিস্তিনীরা এসে রফায়ীম উপত্যকায় ছড়িয়ে পড়েছিল;
Now, the Philistines, had come, —and had spread themselves out in the vale of Rephaim.
19 দাউদ তখন সদাপ্রভুর কাছে জানতে চেয়েছিলেন, “আমি কি গিয়ে ফিলিস্তিনীদের আক্রমণ করব? তুমি কি আমার হাতে তাদের সঁপে দেবে?” সদাপ্রভু তাঁকে উত্তর দিলেন, “যাও, কারণ আমি অবশ্যই তোমার হাতে ফিলিস্তিনীদের সঁপে দেব।”
So then David enquired of Yahweh, saying, —Shall I go up against the Philistines? Wilt thou deliver them into my hand? And Yahweh said unto David—Go up; for I, will surely deliver, the Philistines into thy hand.
20 তখন দাউদ বায়াল-পরাসীমে গেলেন, ও সেখানে তিনি তাদের পরাজিত করলেন। তিনি বললেন, “বাঁধ ফেটে জল যেভাবে বেগে বেরিয়ে যায়, সদাপ্রভুও আমার সামনে আমার শত্রুদের বিরুদ্ধে সেভাবে ফাটিয়েছেন।” তাই সেই স্থানটির নাম হল বায়াল-পরাসীম।
And David entered Baal-perazim, and David smote them there, and said—Yahweh hath broken forth upon mine enemies, before me, like a breaking forth of waters. For this cause, called he the name of that place, Baal-perazim.
21 ফিলিস্তিনীরা সেখানেই তাদের দেবদেবীর মূর্তিগুলি ফেলে রেখে গেল এবং দাউদ ও তাঁর লোকজন সেগুলি উঠিয়ে নিয়ে এলেন।
And they left their images there, —and David and his men took them away.
22 আরও একবার ফিলিস্তিনীরা এসে রফায়ীম উপত্যকায় ছড়িয়ে পড়েছিল;
And, yet again, did the Philistines come up, —and they spread themselves out in the vale of Rephaim.
23 তাই দাউদ সদাপ্রভুর কাছে জানতে চেয়েছিলেন ও তিনি উত্তর দিলেন, “সরাসরি তোমরা তাদের দিকে যেয়ো না, কিন্তু তাদের পিছন দিকে গিয়ে তাদের ঘিরে ধরো ও চিনার গাছগুলির সামনে গিয়ে তাদের আক্রমণ করো।
So David enquired of Yahweh, and he said—Thou shalt not go up, —Get round behind them, and come in upon them, over against the mulberry-trees.
24 যে মুহূর্তে তোমরা চিনার গাছগুলির মাথায় কুচকাওয়াজের শব্দ শুনবে, তাড়াতাড়ি এগিয়ে যেয়ো, কারণ এর অর্থ হল এই যে ফিলিস্তিনী সৈন্যদলকে আক্রমণ করার জন্য সদাপ্রভুই তোমাদের আগে চলে গিয়েছেন।”
And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry-trees, then, shalt thou act with decision, —for, then, will Yahweh have gone forth before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.
25 অতএব সদাপ্রভু দাউদকে যে আদেশ দিলেন, তিনি সেই অনুসারেই কাজ করলেন এবং তিনি গিবিয়োন থেকে শুরু করে গেষর পর্যন্ত ফিলিস্তিনীদের আঘাত করে গেলেন।
And David did so, as Yahweh had commanded him, —and smote the Philistines, from Gibeon until thou enterest Gezer.
