1 ভাববাদী ইলীশায় ভাববাদী সম্প্রদায়ের মধ্যে থেকে একজন লোককে ডেকে বললেন, “তোমার কোমরবন্ধে তোমার আলখাল্লাটি গুঁজে নাও, তোমার সাথে এই এক বোতল জলপাই তেল নাও ও রামোৎ-গিলিয়দে চলে যাও।

2 সেখানে পৌঁছে, নিমশির নাতি, তথা যিহোশাফটের ছেলে যেহূর খোঁজ করো। তাঁর কাছে গিয়ে তাঁকে তাঁর সঙ্গীসাথীদের কাছ থেকে একটু দূরে সরিয়ে ভিতরের একটি ঘরে নিয়ে যেয়ো।

3 পরে সেই বোতলের তেলটুকু তাঁর মাথায় ঢেলে দিয়ে ঘোষণা কোরো, ‘সদাপ্রভু একথাই বলেন: আমি তোমাকে ইস্রায়েলের উপরে রাজপদে অভিষিক্ত করছি।’ পরে দরজা খুলে দৌড়ে বেরিয়ে যেয়ো; দেরি কোরো না!”

4 অতএব সেই অল্পবয়স্ক ভাববাদী রামোৎ-গিলিয়দে গেলেন।

5 সেখানে পৌঁছে তিনি দেখতে পেয়েছিলেন সেনা-কর্মকর্তারা একসাথে বসে আছেন। “হে সেনাপতি, আপনার জন্য আমি একটি খবর নিয়ে এসেছি,” তিনি বললেন। “আমাদের মধ্যে কার জন্য?” যেহূ জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন। “হে সেনাপতি, আপনার জন্যই,” তিনি উত্তর দিলেন।

6 যেহূ উঠে বাড়ির ভিতরে চলে গেলেন। তখন সেই ভাববাদী যেহূর মাথায় সেই তেল ঢেলে দিয়ে ঘোষণা করলেন, “ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু একথাই বলেন: ‘সদাপ্রভুর প্রজা ইস্রায়েলের উপর আমি তোমাকে রাজপদে অভিষিক্ত করছি।

7 তুমি তোমার মনিব আহাবের কুল ধ্বংস করবে, এবং ঈষেবল আমার দাস সেই ভাববাদীদের ও সদাপ্রভুর সব দাসের যে রক্তপাত করল, আমি তার প্রতিশোধ নেব।
and to smite [obj] house: household Ahab lord your and to avenge blood servant/slave my [the] prophet and blood all servant/slave LORD from hand: to Jezebel
8 আহাবের কুলে সবাই মারা যাবে। আমি ইস্রায়েলে আহাবের কুলে শেষ পুরুষ পর্যন্ত, এক একজনকে শেষ করে ফেলব—তা সে ক্রীতদাসই হোক কি স্বাধীন।
and to perish all house: household Ahab and to cut: eliminate to/for Ahab to urinate in/on/with wall and to restrain and to leave: release in/on/with Israel
9 আমি আহাবের কুলকে নবাটের ছেলে যারবিয়ামের কুলের এবং অহিয়র ছেলে বাশার কুলের মতো করে ফেলব।

10 আর ঈষেবলকে যিষ্রিয়েলের জমিতে কুকুরেরা ছিঁড়ে খাবে, ও কেউ তাকে কবরও দেবে না।’” এই বলে তিনি দরজা খুলে দৌড়ে চলে গেলেন।

11 যেহূ যখন তাঁর সঙ্গীসাথীদের কাছে ফিরে গেলেন, তাদের মধ্যে একজন তাঁকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “সবকিছু ঠিক আছে তো? ওই উন্মাদটি কেন তোমার কাছে এসেছিল?” “আরে, তোমরা তো ওকে আর ও কী ধরনের কথা বলে, তাও জান,” যেহূ উত্তর দিলেন।

12 “একথা সত্যি নয়!” তারা বললেন। “আমাদের বলে ফেলো।” যেহূ বললেন, “সে আমাকে বলে গেল: ‘সদাপ্রভু একথাই বলেন: ইস্রায়েলের উপর আমি তোমাকে রাজপদে অভিষিক্ত করছি।’”

13 তারা তাড়াতাড়ি নিজেদের আলখাল্লাগুলি খুলে নিয়ে সেগুলি তাঁর পায়ের নিচে খোলা সিঁড়ির উপর বিছিয়ে দিলেন। পরে শিঙা বাজিয়ে তারা চিৎকার করে উঠেছিলেন, “যেহূ রাজা হলেন!”

14 অতএব নিমশির নাতি, তথা যিহোশাফটের ছেলে যেহূ যোরামের বিরুদ্ধে ষড়যন্ত্র করলেন। (ইত্যবসরে যোরাম ইস্রায়েলের সব লোকজনকে সাথে নিয়ে অরামের রাজা হসায়েলের বিরুদ্ধে রুখে দাঁড়িয়ে রামোৎ-গিলিয়দ রক্ষা করছিলেন,

16 এই বলে তিনি রথে চড়ে যিষ্রিয়েলের দিকে চলে গেলেন, কারণ যোরাম সেখানে বিশ্রাম নিচ্ছিলেন ও যিহূদার রাজা অহসিয় তাঁর সাথে দেখা করতে গেলেন।

17 যিষ্রিয়েলের মিনারে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকা পাহারাদার যখন যেহূর সৈন্যদলকে আসতে দেখেছিল, সে চিৎকার করে বলে উঠেছিল, “আমি একদল সৈন্য আসতে দেখছি।” “একজন অশ্বারোহী পাঠাও,” যোরাম আদেশ দিলেন। “সে গিয়ে তাদের সাথে দেখা করে জিজ্ঞাসা করুক, ‘তোমরা শান্তিতে এসেছ তো?’”

18 সেই অশ্বারোহী সৈনিক গিয়ে যেহূর সাথে দেখা করে বলল, “রাজামশাই একথাই বলেছেন: ‘আপনারা শান্তিতেই এসেছেন তো?’” “শান্তির ব্যাপারে তোমার খোঁজ নেওয়ার কী দরকার?” যেহূ উত্তর দিলেন। “আমার পিছনে এসে দাঁড়াও।” পাহারাদার খবর দিয়েছিল, “সেই দূত তাদের কাছে পৌঁছে গিয়েছে, কিন্তু সে ফিরে আসছে না।”

19 তাই রাজামশাই দ্বিতীয় এক অশ্বারোহীকে পাঠালেন। সে তাদের কাছে এসে বলল, “রাজামশাই একথাই বলেছেন: ‘আপনারা শান্তিতেই এসেছেন তো?’” যেহূ উত্তর দিলেন, “শান্তির ব্যাপারে তোমার খোঁজ নেওয়ার কী দরকার? তুমি আমার পিছনে এসে দাঁড়াও।”
and to send: depart to ride horse second and to come (in): come to(wards) them and to say thus to say [the] king peace and to say Jehu what? to/for you and to/for peace to turn: turn to(wards) after me
20 পাহারাদার খবর দিয়েছিল, “সে তাদের কাছে পৌঁছে গিয়েছে, কিন্তু সে ফিরে আসছে না। রথ চালানো দেখে মনে হচ্ছে সে হয়তো নিমশির সন্তান যেহূ—কারণ সে উন্মাদের মতো রথ চালায়।”

21 “আমার রথটি হ্যাঁচকা টান মেরে তোলো,” যোরাম আদেশ দিলেন। আর যখন রথটি হ্যাঁচকা টান মেরে তোলা হল, ইস্রায়েলের রাজা যোরাম ও যিহূদার রাজা অহসিয় নিজের নিজের রথে চড়ে যেহূর সাথে দেখা করতে বের হয়ে গেলেন। যিষ্রিয়েলীয় নাবোতের অধিকারভুক্ত জমিতেই যেহূর সাথে তাদের দেখা হল।

22 যেহূকে দেখতে পেয়ে যোরাম তাঁকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “যেহূ, তুমি কি শান্তিতে এসেছ?” “শান্তি থাকবে কী করে,” যেহূ উত্তর দিলেন, “যতদিন আপনার মা ঈষেবলের প্রতিমাপুজো ও ডাইনিবিদ্যা দেশে উপচে পড়ছে?”

23 যোরাম উল্টোদিকে ফিরে পালিয়ে যেতে যেতে অহসিয়কে বলে যাচ্ছিলেন, “অহসিয়, এ যে বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা!”

24 তখন যেহূ তাঁর ধনুকে টান দিয়ে যোরামের কাঁধের মাঝামাঝি স্থানে তির ছুঁড়ে মেরেছিলেন। তিরটি তাঁর হৃদপিণ্ডে গিয়ে বিঁধেছিল ও তিনি ধপ করে তাঁর রথে বসে পড়েছিলেন।

25 যেহূ তাঁর রথের দায়িত্বপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা বিদকরকে বললেন, “ওকে তুলে নিয়ে এসে যিষ্রিয়েলীয় নাবোতের জমিতে ছুঁড়ে ফেলে দাও। মনে করে দেখো, তুমি-আমি যখন ওর বাবা আহাবের পিছু পিছু রথে চড়ে যাচ্ছিলাম, তখন সদাপ্রভু আহাবের বিরুদ্ধে এই ভাববাণী করেছিলেন:

26 ‘সদাপ্রভু ঘোষণা করছেন, গতকাল আমি নাবোত ও তার ছেলেদের রক্তপাত হতে দেখেছি, এবং সদাপ্রভু ঘোষণা করছেন, আমি অবশ্যই এই জমির উপরেই তোমাকে এর দাম চোকাতে বাধ্য করব।’ তবে এখন, সদাপ্রভুর বাক্যানুসারে ওকে তুলে নিয়ে এসে সেই জমিতেই ছুঁড়ে ফেলে দাও।”

27 যা ঘটেছিল, তা দেখে যিহূদার রাজা অহসিয় বেথ-হাগ্গনের পথ ধরে পালিয়ে গেলেন। যেহূ এই বলে চিৎকার করতে করতে তাঁর পিছু ধাওয়া করলেন, “ওকেও মেরে ফেলো!” যিব্লিয়মের কাছাকাছি অবস্থিত গূরে যাওয়ার পথে তারা রথের মধ্যেই তাঁকে আঘাত করল, কিন্তু তিনি মগিদ্দোতে পালিয়ে গেলেন ও সেখানেই তাঁর মৃত্যু হল।

30 পরে যেহূ যিষ্রিয়েলে চলে গেলেন। ঈষেবল সেকথা শুনতে পেয়ে চোখে কাজল দিয়ে, পরিপাটি করে চুল বেঁধে জানালা দিয়ে বাইরে তাকিয়েছিল।

32 যেহূ জানালার দিকে তাকিয়ে প্রশ্ন করলেন, “কে আমার পক্ষে আছে? কে আছে?” দু-তিনজন খোজা নিচে তাঁর দিকে তাকিয়েছিল।

33 “ওকে নিচে ফেলে দাও!” যেহূ বললেন। অতএব তারা ঈষেবলকে নিচে ফেলে দিয়েছিল, এবং কয়েকটি ঘোড়া যখন তাকে পা দিয়ে মাড়িয়ে দিয়েছিল, তখন দেয়ালে ও ঘোড়াদের গায়ে তার রক্তের ছিটে লাগল।

34 যেহূ ভিতরে গিয়ে ভোজনপান করলেন। “অভিশাপগ্রস্ত ওই মহিলাটির কিছু ব্যবস্থা করো,” তিনি বললেন, “আর ওকে কবর দাও, কারণ ও এক রাজার মেয়ে ছিল।”

35 কিন্তু যখন তারা তাকে কবর দিতে গেল, তখন তারা তার মাথার খুলি, তার পা ও হাত ছাড়া আর কিছুই খুঁজে পায়নি।

36 তারা ফিরে গিয়ে যেহূকে সেকথা বলল, ও তিনি বললেন, “এ সদাপ্রভুর সেই কথা যা তিনি তাঁর দাস তিশবীয় এলিয়র মাধ্যমে বললেন: যিষ্রিয়েলের জমিতে কুকুরেরা ঈষেবলের মাংস ছিঁড়ে খাবে।

37 গোবরসারের মতো পড়ে থাকবে যে কেউ বলতেই পারবে না যে ‘এ হল ঈষেবল।’”
