1 পরে, মোয়াবীয় ও অম্মোনীয়রা কয়েকজন মায়োনীয়কে সাথে নিয়ে যিহোশাফটের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করতে এসেছিল।
And it cometh to pass after this, the sons of Moab have come in, and the sons of Ammon, and with them of the peoples, against Jehoshaphat to battle.
2 কিছু লোকজন এসে যিহোশাফটকে বলল, “ইদোম থেকে, মরুসাগরের ওপার থেকে বিশাল এক সৈন্যদল আপনার দিকে এগিয়ে আসছে। তারা ইতিমধ্যেই হৎসসোন-তামরে (অর্থাৎ ঐন-গদীতে) পৌঁছে গিয়েছে।”
And they come in and declare to Jehoshaphat, saying, 'Come against thee hath a great multitude from beyond the sea, from Aram, and lo, they [are] in Hazezon-Tamar — it [is] En-Gedi.'
3 এই সতর্কবার্তা পেয়ে যিহোশাফট সদাপ্রভুর অন্বেষণ করার বিষয়ে মনস্থির করে ফেলেছিলেন, এবং তিনি সমগ্র যিহূদা দেশে উপবাস ঘোষণা করে দিলেন।
And Jehoshaphat feareth, and setteth his face to seek to Jehovah, and proclaimeth a fast over all Judah;
4 যিহূদার প্রজারা সদাপ্রভুর কাছে সাহায্য চাওয়ার জন্য এক স্থানে একত্রিত হল; বাস্তবিকই তাঁর খোঁজে তারা যিহূদার প্রত্যেকটি নগর থেকে চলে এসেছিল।
and Judah is gathered to inquire of Jehovah; also, from all the cities of Judah they have come in to seek Jehovah.
5 তখন যিহোশাফট সদাপ্রভুর মন্দিরে, নতুন উঠোনের সামনে যিহূদা ও জেরুশালেমের সমবেত জনতার মাঝখানে দাঁড়িয়ে
And Jehoshaphat standeth in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of Jehovah, at the front of the new court,
6 বললেন: “হে আমাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু, তুমি কি স্বর্গে বিরাজমান ঈশ্বর নও? তুমিই তো জাতিদের সব রাজ্য শাসন করে থাকো। বল ও শক্তি তো তোমারই হাতে আছে, আর কেউ তোমাকে বাধাও দিতে পারে না।
and saith, 'O Jehovah, God of our fathers, art not Thou — God in the heavens? yea, Thou art ruling over all kingdoms of the nations, and in Thy hand [is] power and might, and there is none with Thee to station himself.
7 হে আমাদের ঈশ্বর, তুমিই কি তোমার প্রজা ইস্রায়েলের সামনে থেকে এই দেশের অধিবাসীদের দূর করে দাওনি এবং এই দেশটি তোমার বন্ধু অব্রাহামের বংশধরদের হাতে চিরকালের জন্য তুলে দাওনি?
'Art not Thou our God? Thou hast dispossessed the inhabitants of this land from before Thy people Israel, and dost give it to the seed of Abraham Thy friend to the age,
8 তারা এখানে বসবাস করেছে এবং এই বলে এখানে এক পবিত্র পীঠস্থান তৈরি করেছে,
and they dwell in it, and build to Thee in it a sanctuary for Thy name, saying,
9 ‘যদি বিপর্যয় আমাদের উপর এসেও পড়ে, তা সে বিচারের তরোয়াল, বা মহামারি বা দুর্ভিক্ষ, যাই হোক না কেন, আমরা তোমার উপস্থিতিতে এই মন্দিরটির সামনে এসে দাঁড়াব, যা তোমার নাম বহন করে চলেছে এবং আমাদের দুর্দশায় আমরা তোমারই কাছে কাঁদব, ও তুমি আমাদের কান্না শুনে আমাদের বাঁচাবে।’
If evil doth come upon us — sword, judgment, and pestilence, and famine — we stand before this house, and before Thee, for Thy name [is] in this house, and cry unto Thee out of our distress, and Thou dost hear and save.
10 “কিন্তু এখন এখানে অম্মোন, মোয়াব ও সেয়ীর পর্বত থেকে সেইসব লোকজন এসে পড়েছে, যাদের এলাকায় তুমি ইস্রায়েলকে তখন সশস্ত্র আক্রমণ চালাতে দাওনি, যখন তারা মিশর থেকে বের হয়ে এসেছিল; তাই ইস্রায়েলীরা তাদের কাছ থেকে ফিরে গেল ও তাদের ধ্বংসও করেননি।
'And now, lo, sons of Ammon, and Moab, and mount Seir, whom Thou didst not grant to Israel to go in against in their coming out of the land of Egypt, for they turned aside from off them and destroyed them not,
11 তুমি দেখো, এক উত্তরাধিকাররূপে তুমি আমাদের যে স্বত্ত্বাধিকার দিয়েছ, তা থেকে আমাদের তাড়িয়ে দেওয়ার মাধ্যমে কীভাবে তারা আমাদের প্রতিদান দিচ্ছে।
and lo, they are recompensing to us — to come in to drive us out of Thy possession, that Thou hast caused us to possess.
12 হে আমাদের ঈশ্বর, তুমি কি তাদের বিচার করবে না? কারণ এই যে বিশাল সৈন্যদল আমাদের আক্রমণ করতে আসছে, তাদের সম্মুখীন হওয়ার ক্ষমতা আমাদের নেই। কী করব, তা আমরা জানি না, কিন্তু আমাদের চোখ তোমার উপরেই আছে।”
'O our God, dost Thou not execute judgment upon them? for there is no power in us before this great multitude that hath come against us, and we know not what we do, but on Thee [are] our eyes.'
13 যিহূদার সব লোকজন তাদের স্ত্রী, সন্তান ও ছোটো ছোটো শিশুদের সাথে নিয়ে সদাপ্রভুর সামনে গিয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছিল।
And all Judah are standing before Jehovah, also their infants, their wives, and their sons.
14 সখরিয়ের ছেলে যহসীয়েল যখন জনতার মাঝখানে দাঁড়িয়েছিলেন, তখন সদাপ্রভুর আত্মা তাঁর উপর নেমে এলেন। তিনি একজন লেবীয় ও আসফের এক বংশধর ছিলেন। সখরিয় বনায়ের ছেলে, বনায় যিয়েলের ছেলে, যিয়েল মত্তনিয়ের ছেলে ছিলেন।
And upon Jahaziel, son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, hath the Spirit of Jehovah been, in the midst of the assembly,
15 তিনি বললেন: “হে রাজা যিহোশাফট এবং যিহূদা ও জেরুশালেমে বসবাসকারী সব লোকজন, আপনারা শুনুন! সদাপ্রভু আপনাদের একথা বলছেন: ‘এই বিশাল সৈন্যদল দেখে ভয় পেয়ো না বা নিরাশ হোয়ো না।
and he saith, 'Attend, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and O king Jehoshaphat, Thus said Jehovah to you, Ye fear not, nor are afraid of the face of this great multitude, for not for you [is] the battle, but for God.
16 আগামীকাল তাদের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধযাত্রা করো। তারা সীস গিরিখাতের পথ বেয়ে উপরে উঠতে থাকবে, এবং তোমরা যিরূয়েল মরুভূমিতে গিরিখাতের শেষ প্রান্তে তাদের খুঁজে পাবে।
To-morrow, go ye down against them, lo, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz, and ye have found them in the end of the valley, the front of the wilderness of Jeruel.
17 এই যুদ্ধটি তোমাদের করতে হবে না। তোমরা শুধু শক্ত ঘাঁটি গেড়ে বসে থাকো; হে যিহূদা ও জেরুশালেমের লোকজন, শক্ত হয়ে দাঁড়াও ও দেখো, সদাপ্রভু কেমনভাবে তোমাদের উদ্ধার করছেন। তোমরা ভয় পোয়ো না; নিরাশও হোয়ো না। আগামীকাল তাদের সম্মুখীন হতে যেয়ো, এবং সদাপ্রভু তোমাদের সাথে থাকবেন।’”
Not for you to fight in this; station yourselves, stand, and see the salvation of Jehovah with you, O Judah and Jerusalem — be not afraid nor fear ye — to-morrow go out before them, and Jehovah [is] with you.'
18 যিহোশাফট মাটিতে উবুড় হয়ে প্রণাম করলেন, এবং যিহূদা ও জেরুশালেমের সব লোকজনও সদাপ্রভুর আরাধনা করার জন্য মাটিতে উবুড় হয়ে পড়েছিল।
And Jehoshaphat boweth — face to the earth — and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem have fallen before Jehovah, to bow themselves to Jehovah.
19 পরে কহাতীয় ও কোরহীয়দের মধ্যে কয়েকজন লেবীয় উঠে দাঁড়িয়েছিল ও জোর গলায় ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর প্রশংসা করল।
And the Levites, of the sons of the Kohathites, and of the sons of the Korhites, rise to give praise to Jehovah, God of Israel, with a loud voice on high.
20 ভোরবেলায় তারা তকোয় মরুভূমির দিকে রওনা হয়ে গেল। তারা রওনা হতে যাচ্ছিল, এমন সময় যিহোশাফট উঠে দাঁড়িয়ে বললেন, “হে যিহূদা ও জেরুশালেমের লোকেরা, তোমরা আমার কথা শোনো! তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর উপর বিশ্বাস রাখো আর তিনি তোমাদের তুলে ধরবেন; তাঁর ভাববাদীদের উপর বিশ্বাস রাখো আর তোমরা সফল হবে।”
And they rise early in the morning, and go out to the wilderness of Tekoa, and in their going out Jehoshaphat hath stood and saith, 'Hear me, O Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, remain stedfast in Jehovah your God, and be stedfast; remain stedfast in His prophets, and prosper.'
21 প্রজাদের সাথে পরামর্শ করে সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশে গান গাওয়ার ও তাঁর পবিত্রতার সমারোহের জন্য প্রশংসা করার লক্ষ্যে যিহোশাফট সেই সময়, বিশেষ করে যখন তারা সৈন্যদলের আগে আগে যাচ্ছিল, তখন কয়েকজন লোক নিযুক্ত করলেন। তারা বলছিল: “সদাপ্রভুর ধন্যবাদ করো, কারণ তাঁর প্রেম চিরস্থায়ী।”
And he taketh counsel with the people, and appointeth singers to Jehovah, and those giving praise to the honour of holiness, in the going out before the armed [men], and saying, 'Give ye thanks to Jehovah, for to the age [is] His kindness.'
22 যেই তারা গান গাইতে ও প্রশংসা করতে শুরু করল, অম্মোন, মোয়াব ও সেয়ীর পাহাড়ের সেই লোকজনের বিরুদ্ধে সদাপ্রভু অতর্কিত আক্রমণ চালিয়ে দিলেন, যারা যিহূদা দেশে সশস্ত্র আক্রমণ চালিয়েছিল, এবং তারা পরাজিত হল।
And at the time they have begun with singing and praise, Jehovah hath put ambushments against the sons of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, who are coming in to Judah, and they are smitten,
23 অম্মোনীয় ও মোয়াবীয়েরা সেয়ীর পাহাড়ের লোকজনের বিরুদ্ধে খাড়া হয়ে তাদের ধ্বংস ও নির্মূল করে দিতে চেয়েছিল। সেয়ীরের লোকজনকে কচুকাটা করার পর, তারা একে অপরকেও ধ্বংস করে ফেলেছিল।
and the sons of Ammon stand up, and Moab, against the inhabitants of mount Seir, to devote and to destroy, and at their finishing with the inhabitants of Seir, they helped, a man against his neighbour, to destroy.
24 যিহূদার লোকজন যখন সেই উঁচু স্থানটিতে এসেছিল, যেখান থেকে নিচে মরুভূমির দৃশ্য দেখা যায়, এবং তারা যখন বিশাল সেই সৈন্যদলের দিকে তাকিয়েছিল, তারা দেখতে পেয়েছিল, মাটিতে শুধু মৃতদেহই পড়ে আছে; কেউ পালাতে পারেনি।
And Judah hath come in unto the watch-tower, to the wilderness, and they look unto the multitude, and lo, they [are] carcases fallen to the earth, and there is none escaped,
25 তাই যিহোশাফট ও তাঁর লোকজন লুটসামগ্রী সংগ্রহ করার জন্য সেখানে গেলেন, সেগুলির মাঝখানে তারা প্রচুর সাজসরঞ্জাম ও পোশাক-পরিচ্ছদ এবং মূল্যবান জিনিসপত্রও খুঁজে পেয়েছিলেন—সেগুলির পরিমাণ এত বেশি ছিল যে তারা সেগুলি বয়ে আনতে পারেননি। সেখানে এত লুটসামগ্রী ছিল যে সেগুলি সংগ্রহ করতে তাদের তিন দিন লেগে গেল।
and Jehoshaphat cometh in, and his people, to seize their spoil, and they find among them, in abundance, both goods and carcases, and desirable vessels, and they take spoil to themselves without prohibition, and they are three days seizing the spoil, for it [is] abundant.
26 চতুর্থ দিনে তারা সেই বরাখা উপত্যকায় একত্রিত হলেন, যেখানে তারা সদাপ্রভুর প্রশংসা করলেন। সেইজন্য আজও পর্যন্ত সেই স্থানটিকে বরাখা উপত্যকা বলে ডাকা হয়।
And on the fourth day they have been assembled at the valley of Blessing, for there they blessed Jehovah: therefore they have called the name of that place, 'Valley of Blessing,' unto this day.
27 পরে, যিহোশাফটের নেতৃত্বে, যিহূদা ও জেরুশালেমের সব লোকজন আনন্দ করতে করতে জেরুশালেমে ফিরে গেল, যেহেতু তাদের শত্রুদের বিষয়ে আনন্দিত হওয়ার সংগত কারণ সদাপ্রভু তাদের জোগালেন।
And they turn back, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat at their head, to go back unto Jerusalem with joy, for Jehovah hath made them rejoice over their enemies.
28 তারা জেরুশালেমে প্রবেশ করলেন এবং বীণা, খঞ্জনি ও শিঙা নিয়ে সদাপ্রভুর মন্দিরে গেলেন।
And they come in to Jerusalem with psalteries, and with harps, and with trumpets, unto the house of Jehovah.
29 সদাপ্রভু কীভাবে ইস্রায়েলের শত্রুদের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করেছেন, ইস্রায়েলের চারপাশে অবস্থিত অন্যান্য রাজ্যের সব লোকজন যখন তা শুনতে পেয়েছিল, তখন তাদের উপর ঈশ্বরভয় নেমে এসেছিল।
And there is a fear of God on all kingdoms of the lands in their hearing that Jehovah hath fought with the enemies of Israel,
30 যিহোশাফটের রাজ্যে অবশ্য শান্তি বিরাজ করছিল, কারণ সবদিক থেকেই তাঁর ঈশ্বর তাঁকে বিশ্রাম দিলেন।
and the kingdom of Jehoshaphat is quiet, and his God giveth rest to him round about.
31 এইভাবে যিহোশাফট যিহূদা দেশে রাজত্ব করে গেলেন। তিনি পঁয়ত্রিশ বছর বয়সে যিহূদার রাজা হলেন, এবং জেরুশালেমে তিনি পঁচিশ বছর রাজত্ব করলেন। তাঁর মায়ের নাম অসূবা, যিনি শিলহির মেয়ে ছিলেন।
And Jehoshaphat reigneth over Judah, a son of thirty and five years in his reigning, and twenty and five years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Azubah daughter of Shilhi.
32 যিহোশাফট তাঁর বাবা আসার পথেই চলতেন এবং সেখান থেকে কখনও সরে যাননি; সদাপ্রভুর দৃষ্টিতে যা ন্যায্য, তিনি তাই করতেন।
And he walketh in the way of his father Asa, and hath not turned aside from it, to do that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah.
33 পূজার্চনার উঁচু স্থানগুলি অবশ্য দূর করা হয়নি, এবং প্রজারা তখনও তাদের অন্তর, তাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের ঈশ্বরে পুরোপুরি স্থির করেননি।
Only, the high places have not turned aside, and still the people have not prepared their heart for the God of their fathers.
34 শুরু থেকে শেষ পর্যন্ত, যিহোশাফটের রাজত্বকালের অন্যান্য সব ঘটনা ইস্রায়েলের রাজাদের গ্রন্থের অন্তর্গত হনানির ছেলে যেহূর ইতিহাস-গ্রন্থে লেখা আছে।
And the rest of the matters of Jehoshaphat, the first and the last, lo, they are written among the matters of Jehu son of Hanani, who hath been mentioned on the book of the kings of Israel.
35 পরে, যিহূদার রাজা যিহোশাফট ইস্রায়েলের রাজা সেই অহসিয়ের সাথে জোট গড়ে তুলেছিলেন, যিনি অন্যায় পথে চলতেন।
And after this hath Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, (he did wickedly in [so] doing),
36 তর্শীশে বাণিজ্যতরির নৌবহর গড়ে তোলার বিষয়ে যিহোশাফট তাঁর কথায় রাজি হলেন। ইৎসিয়োন-গেবরে সেগুলি তৈরির কাজ সম্পূর্ণ হয়ে যাওয়ার পর,
and he joineth him with himself to make ships to go to Tarshish, and they make ships in Ezion-Geber,
37 মারেশার অধিবাসী দোদাবাহূর ছেলে ইলীয়েষর যিহোশাফটের বিরুদ্ধে ভাববাণী করলেন। তিনি বললেন, “যেহেতু আপনি অহসিয়ের সাথে জোট গড়ে তুলেছেন, তাই আপনি যা তৈরি করেছেন, সদাপ্রভু তা ধ্বংস করে দেবেন।” সামুদ্রিক ঝড়ে জাহাজগুলি ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হল এবং ব্যবসাবাণিজ্য করার জন্য তর্শীশের উদ্দেশে রওনা হতেও পারেনি।
and prophesy doth Eliezer son of Dodavah, of Mareshah, against Jehoshaphat, saying, 'For thy joining thyself with Ahaziah, Jehovah hath broken up thy works;' and the ships are broken, and have not retained [power] to go unto Tarshish.
