1 রহবিয়াম শিখিমে গেলেন, কারণ সমগ্র ইস্রায়েল তাঁকে রাজা করার জন্য সেখানে পৌঁছেছিল।

2 নবাটের ছেলে যারবিয়াম যখন সেকথা শুনলেন (রাজা শলোমনের কাছ থেকে পালিয়ে তিনি সেই যে মিশরে চলে গেলেন, তিনি সেখানেই ছিলেন), তখন তিনি মিশর থেকে ফিরে এলেন।
And whanne Jeroboam, the sone of Nabath, that was in Egipt, `for he fledde thidur bifor Salomon, hadde herd this, he turnyde ayen anoon.
3 তাই তারা লোক পাঠিয়ে যারবিয়ামকে ডেকে এনেছিল, এবং তিনি ও সমগ্র ইস্রায়েল রহবিয়ামের কাছে গিয়ে তাঁকে বললেন:
And thei clepiden hym, and he cam with al Israel, and thei spaken to Roboam, and seiden,
4 “আপনার বাবা আমাদের উপর এক ভারী জোয়াল চাপিয়ে দিয়েছেন, কিন্তু এখন আপনি সেই কঠোর পরিশ্রম ও ভারী জোয়ালের ভার লঘু করে দিন, যা আপনার বাবা আমাদের উপর চাপিয়ে দিয়েছেন, আর আমরাও আপনার সেবা করব।”
Thi fadir oppresside vs with ful hard yok; comaunde thou liytere thingis than thi fader, that settide on vs a greuouse seruage; and releese thou a litil of `the birthun, that we serue thee. And he seide,
5 রহবিয়াম উত্তর দিলেন, “তিন দিন পর তোমরা আমার কাছে আবার এসো।” তাই লোকজন চলে গেল।
After thre daies turne ye ayen to me. And whanne the puple was goon, he took counsel with elde men,
6 পরে রাজা রহবিয়াম সেইসব প্রাচীনের সঙ্গে শলাপরামর্শ করলেন, যারা তাঁর বাবা শলোমনের জীবনকালে তাঁর সেবা করতেন। “এই লোকদের কী উত্তর দিতে হবে সে বিষয়ে আপনারা আমাকে কী পরামর্শ দিতে চান?” তিনি জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন।
that stoden bifor his fadir Salomon, while he lyuyde yit, and seide, What counsel yyuen ye, that Y answere to the puple?
7 তারা উত্তর দিলেন, “আপনি যদি এই লোকদের প্রতি দয়া দেখান ও তাদের খুশি করেন এবং তাদের সন্তোষজনক এক উত্তর দেন, তবে তারা সবসময় আপনার দাস হয়েই থাকবে।”
And thei seiden to hym, If thou plesist this puple, and makist hem softe bi meke wordis, thei schulen serue thee in al tyme.
8 কিন্তু সেই বয়স্ক লোকজন রহবিয়ামকে যে পরামর্শ দিলেন, তিনি তা অগ্রাহ্য করলেন এবং সেই কমবয়সি যুবকদের সাথে শলাপরামর্শ করলেন, যারা তাঁর সাথেই বেড়ে উঠেছিল ও যারা তাঁর সেবা করত।
And he forsook the counsel of elde men, and bigan to trete with yonge men, that weren nurischid with hym, and weren in his cumpenye.
9 তিনি তাদের জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তোমরা কী পরামর্শ দিতে চাও? সেই লোকদের আমরা কী উত্তর দেব, যারা আমাকে বলেছে, ‘আপনার বাবা আমাদের উপর যে জোয়াল চাপিয়ে দিয়েছেন, তা আপনি লঘু করে দিন’?”
And he seide to hem, What semeth to you? ether what owe Y answere to this puple, that seide to me, Releese thou the yok, which thi fadir puttide on vs?
10 তাঁর সাথে বেড়ে ওঠা যুবকেরা উত্তর দিয়েছিল, “লোকেরা আপনাকে বলেছে, ‘আপনার বাবা আমাদের উপর ভারী এক জোয়াল চাপিয়ে দিয়েছেন, কিন্তু আপনি এখন আমাদের জোয়াল হালকা করে দিন।’ এখন আপনি তাদের বলুন, ‘আমার কড়ে আঙুল আমার বাবার কোমরের চেয়েও মোটা।
And thei answeriden, as yonge men and nurschyd with hym in delicis, and seiden, Thus thou schalt speke to the puple that seide to thee, Thi fadir made greuouse oure yok, releese thou; and thus thou schalt answere to hem, My leeste fyngur is gretter than the leendis of my fader;
11 আমার বাবা তোমাদের উপর ভারী এক জোয়াল চাপিয়ে দিয়েছেন; আমি সেটি আরও ভারী করে তুলব। আমার বাবা তোমাদের চাবুক মেরে শাস্তি দিয়েছেন; আমি তোমাদের শাস্তি দেব কাঁকড়াবিছের কামড় দিয়ে।’”
my fadir puttide on you a greuouse yok, and Y schal leie to a gretter birthun; my fadir beet you with scourgis, forsothe Y schal bete you with `scorpiouns, that is, hard knottid roopis.
12 “তিন দিন পর আমার কাছে তোমরা ফিরে এসো,” রাজার বলা এই কথামতো তিন দিন পর যারবিয়াম ও সব লোকজন রহবিয়ামের কাছে ফিরে এলেন।
Therfor Jeroboam and al the puple cam to Roboam in the thridde dai, as he hadde comaundid to hem.
13 রাজা তাদের রুক্ষ ভাষায় উত্তর দিলেন। বয়স্ক লোকজনের পরামর্শ অগ্রাহ্য করে,
And `the kyng answeride harde thingis, after that he hadde forsake the counsel of the eldere men,
14 তিনি যুবকদের পরামর্শ মতো তাদের বললেন, “আমার বাবা তোমাদের জোয়াল ভারী করে দিলেন; আমি সেটি আরও ভারী করে তুলব। আমার বাবা তোমাদের চাবুক মেরে শাস্তি দিলেন; আমি কাঁকড়াবিছের কামড় দিয়ে তোমাদের শাস্তি দেব।”
and he spak bi the wille of the yonge men, My fadir puttide on you a greuouse yok, which Y schal make greuousere; my fadir beet you with scourgis, sotheli Y schal bete you with scorpiouns.
15 এইভাবে রাজা, প্রজাদের কথা শুনলেন না, কারণ শীলোনীয় অহিয়ের মাধ্যমে সদাপ্রভুর যে বাক্য নবাটের ছেলে যারবিয়ামের কাছে এসেছিল, সেটি পূর্ণ করার জন্য ঈশ্বরের কাছ থেকেই ঘটনার মোড় এভাবে ঘুরে গেল।
And he assentide not to the preieris of the puple; for it was the wille of God, that his word schulde be fillid, which he hadde spoke bi the hond of Ahie of Silo to Jeroboam, sone of Nabath.
16 সমগ্র ইস্রায়েল যখন দেখেছিল যে রাজা তাদের কথা শুনতে চাইছেন না, তখন তারা রাজাকে উত্তর দিয়েছিল: “দাউদে আমাদের আর কী অধিকার আছে, যিশয়ের ছেলেই বা কী অধিকার আছে? হে ইস্রায়েল তোমাদের তাঁবুতে ফিরে যাও! হে দাউদ, তুমিও নিজের বংশ দেখাশোনা করো!” এই বলে ইস্রায়েলীরা সবাই ঘরে ফিরে গেল।

17 কিন্তু যেসব ইস্রায়েলী যিহূদার বিভিন্ন নগরে বসবাস করছিল, রহবিয়াম তখনও তাদের উপর রাজত্ব করে যাচ্ছিলেন।
Forsothe Roboam regnede on the sones of Israel, that dwelliden in the citees of Juda.
18 রাজা রহবিয়াম বেগার শ্রমিকদের দেখাশোনা করার দায়িত্বপ্রাপ্ত অদোনীরামকে তাদের কাছে পাঠালেন, কিন্তু ইস্রায়েলীরা তার উপর পাথর ছুঁড়ে তাকে মেরে ফেলেছিল। রাজা রহবিয়াম অবশ্য, কোনোমতে রথে চড়ে জেরুশালেমে পালিয়ে যেতে পেরেছিলেন।
And kyng Roboam sente Adhuram, that was souereyn ouer the tributis; and the sones of Israel stonyden hym, and he was deed. Certis kyng Roboam hastide to stie in to the chare, and fledde in to Jerusalem.
19 এইভাবে, আজও পর্যন্ত ইস্রায়েল, দাউদের বংশের বিরুদ্ধে বিদ্রোহ করেই চলেছে।
And Israel yede awei fro the hows of Dauid `til to this dai. Forsothe it was doon, whanne al Israel hadde herd, that Jeroboam turnede ayen, thei senten, and clepiden hym, whanne the cumpeny was gaderid, and thei ordeyneden him king on al Israel; and no man, outakun the lynage of Juda aloone, suede `the hows of Dauid.
