1 দাউদ ও তাঁর লোকজন তৃতীয় দিনে সিক্লগে গিয়ে পৌঁছালেন। ইত্যবসরে অমালেকীয়রা নেগেভে ও সিক্লগে হামলা চালিয়েছিল। তারা সিক্লগ আক্রমণ করে সেটি পুড়িয়ে দিয়েছিল,
Three days later David and his men arrived back in Ziklag. Some Amalekites had raided the Negev and Ziklag. They had attacked Ziklag and burned it down.
2 এবং স্ত্রীলোকদের ও ছোটো-বড়ো সবাইকে বন্দি করল। তারা কাউকেই হত্যা করেনি, কিন্তু ফিরে যাওয়ার সময় তাদের তুলে নিয়ে গেল।
They had captured the women and everyone else there, young and old. They hadn't killed anyone, but they took everyone with them as they left.
3 দাউদ ও তাঁর লোকজন যখন সিক্লগে পৌঁছেছিলেন, তখন তাঁরা দেখেছিলেন নগরটি আগুনে পুড়ে ধ্বংস হয়ে গিয়েছে ও তাদের স্ত্রী ও ছেলেমেয়েরা বন্দি হয়েছে।
When David and his men arrived back in town, they found it burned to the ground, and their wives and children captured.
4 তাই দাউদ ও তাঁর লোকজন গলা ছেড়ে কেঁদেছিলেন। শেষে এমন হল যে তাঁদের আর কাঁদার শক্তি অবশিষ্ট ছিল না।
David and his men cried loudly until they couldn't cry any more.
5 দাউদের দুই স্ত্রী—যিষ্রিয়েলের অহীনোয়ম ও কর্মিল-নিবাসী নাবলের বিধবা অবীগল বন্দি হয়েছিলেন।
David's two wives had also been taken as prisoners—Ahinoam from Jezreel and Abigail, Nabal's widow, from Carmel.
6 দাউদ মনে খুব দুঃখ পেয়েছিলেন কারণ লোকেরা তাঁকে পাথর মারার কথা বলছিল; ছেলেমেয়েদের জন্য প্রত্যেকের মন খারাপ হয়েছিল। কিন্তু দাউদ তাঁর ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুতে শক্তি অর্জন করলেন।
David was in a great deal of trouble, because the men were so upset over losing their children that they began to talk of stoning him. But trusting in the Lord his God,
7 পরে দাউদ অহীমেলকের ছেলে যাজক অবিয়াথরকে বললেন, “এফোদটি আমার কাছে নিয়ে আসুন।” অবিয়াথর সেটি তাঁর কাছে এনেছিলেন,
David went to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, and said, “Bring me the ephod.” Abiathar brought it to him.
8 এবং দাউদ সদাপ্রভুর কাছে জানতে চেয়েছিলেন, “আমি কি আক্রমণকারীদের পিছু ধাওয়া করব? আমি কি তাদের ধরে ফেলতে পারব?” “পিছু ধাওয়া করো,” তিনি উত্তর দিলেন। “তুমি নিঃসন্দেহে তাদের ধরে ফেলতে পারবে ও উদ্ধারকাজে সফল হবে।”
David asked the Lord, “Should I chase after these raiders? Will I catch up with them?” “Yes, chase after them,” the Lord replied, “for you will definitely catch up with them and rescue the prisoners.”
9 দাউদ ও তাঁর সঙ্গে থাকা 600 জন লোক বিষোর উপত্যকায় পৌঁছে গেলেন। কয়েকজন সেখানেই থেকে গেল।
David and six hundred of his men set off for the Besor Valley.
10 তাদের মধ্যে 200 জন এত ক্লান্ত হয়ে পড়েছিল যে তারা আর উপত্যকাটি পার হতে পারেনি, কিন্তু দাউদ ও অন্য 400 জন লোক আক্রমণকারীদের পিছু ধাওয়া করেই যাচ্ছিলেন।
Two hundred of them remained behind there because they were too tired to cross the valley while David continued on with four hundred men.
11 তারা মাঠে একজন মিশরীয় লোককে খুঁজে পেয়ে তাকে দাউদের কাছে নিয়ে এসেছিল। তারা তাকে জলপান করতে ও খাবার খেতে দিয়েছিল—
They came across an Egyptian in the countryside and they took him to David. They gave him some food to eat and water to drink.
12 সেই খাবার ছিল ডুমুরচাকের খানিকটা পিঠে ও কিশমিশ দিয়ে তৈরি দুটি পিঠে। সে সেগুলি খেয়ে শক্তি ফিরে পেয়েছিল, কারণ সে তিন দিন তিনরাত খাবার খায়নি বা জলও পান করেননি।
They also gave him a piece of a fig cake and two raisins cakes. He ate them and recovered, because he hadn't had any food or water for three days and nights.
13 দাউদ তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তুমি কার লোক? কোথা থেকেই বা এসেছ?” সে বলল, “আমি জাতিতে একজন মিশরীয়, আমি একজন অমালেকীয়ের দাস। তিন দিন আগে আমি যখন অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়েছিলাম তখন আমার মনিব আমাকে একা ফেলে রেখে চলে গিয়েছিলেন।
“Whose slave are you, and where do you come from?” David asked him. “I'm an Egyptian,” he replied, “the slave of an Amalekite. My master left me behind three days ago when I got sick.
14 আমরা করেথীয়দের নেগেভে, যিহূদার অধিকারভুক্ত কিছু এলাকায় ও কালেবের নেগেভে হানা দিয়েছিলাম। আবার আমরা সিক্লগও আগুনে পুড়িয়ে দিয়েছি।”
We raided the Kerethites in the Negev, as well as the part that belongs to Judah, and the Negev of Caleb. We burned Ziklag too.”
15 দাউদ তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তুমি কি পথ দেখিয়ে আমাকে সেই আক্রমণকারীদের কাছে নিয়ে যেতে পারবে?” সে উত্তর দিয়েছিল, “আপনি ঈশ্বরের কাছে শপথ করে বলুন যে আপনি আমাকে হত্যা করবেন না বা আমাকে আমার মনিবের হাতে তুলে দেবেন না, তবেই আমি আপনাকে তাদের কাছে নিয়ে যাব।”
“Can you lead me to these raiders?” David asked. “If you swear to me by God that you won't kill me or hand me over to my master, then I'll take you to them,” the man replied.
16 সে দাউদকে তাদের কাছে নিয়ে গেল, আর সেখানে তারা গ্রামাঞ্চলে ছড়িয়ে-ছিটিয়ে ভোজনপান ও বিশ্রাম করছিল কারণ তারা ফিলিস্তিনীদের দেশ থেকে ও যিহূদা থেকে প্রচুর পরিমাণে লুন্ঠিত জিনিসপত্র সংগ্রহ করেছিল।
He led David to the Amalekites, where they were spread out all over the place, eating, drinking, and dancing because of the large haul of plunder they had taken from the lands of the Philistines and of Judah.
17 দাউদ সেদিন ভরসন্ধ্যা থেকে শুরু করে পরদিন সন্ধ্যাবেলা পর্যন্ত তাদের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করলেন, ও উটের পিঠে চেপে পালিয়ে যাওয়া 400 জন যুবক ছাড়া তাদের মধ্যে আর কেউই রক্ষা পায়নি।
David attacked them from dusk until the following evening. Nobody escaped, except for four hundred men who managed to get away, riding on camels.
18 অমালেকীয়রা যা যা নিয়ে গেল সে সবকিছুই, এমনকি তাঁর দুই স্ত্রীকেও দাউদ ফিরিয়ে এনেছিলেন।
David got back everything the Amalekites had taken, including his two wives.
19 কোনো কিছুই হারায়নি: অল্পবয়স্ক বা বয়সে বৃদ্ধ, ছেলে বা মেয়ে, লুন্ঠিত জিনিসপত্র বা তারা নিয়ে গিয়েছিল এমন অন্য সবকিছু দাউদ ফিরিয়ে নিয়ে এলেন।
Everything was accounted for—all the adults and children, as well as all the plunder the Amalekites had taken. David brought everything back.
20 তিনি সব মেষ ও পশুপাল ছিনিয়ে এনেছিলেন, এবং এই বলে তাঁর লোকজন সেগুলি অন্যান্য গবাদি পশুর আগে আগে তাড়িয়ে এনেছিল, “এসব দাউদের লুন্ঠিত জিনিসপত্র।”
He also recovered all the flocks and herds. His men drove them ahead of the other livestock, shouting, “This is David's plunder!”
21 পরে দাউদ সেই 200 জন লোকের কাছে এলেন যারা খুব ক্লান্ত হয়ে পড়েছিল বলে তাঁর অনুগামী হতে পারেনি ও তারা বিষোর উপত্যকায় থেকে গিয়েছিল। তারা দাউদ ও তাঁর সঙ্গে থাকা লোকজনের সঙ্গে দেখা করতে এসেছিল। দাউদ ও তাঁর লোকজন সেখানে পৌঁছালে তিনি তাদের জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন তারা কেমন আছে।
When David got back to the two hundred men who had been too tired to continue with him from the Besor Valley, they came to meet him and the men with him. As David approached the men to greet them,
22 কিন্তু দাউদের অনুগামীদের মধ্যে সব দুষ্ট প্রকৃতির ও ঝামেলা সৃষ্টিকারী লোক বলল, “যেহেতু এরা আমাদের সঙ্গে যায়নি, তাই আমাদের ফিরিয়ে আনা লুন্ঠিত জিনিসপত্রের বখরা আমরা এদের দেব না। অবশ্য, এরা প্রত্যেকে নিজেদের স্ত্রী-সন্তান নিয়ে যেতে পারে।”
all the unpleasant, good-for-nothing men of those who had gone with David said, “They weren't with us, so we won't share the plunder that we took, except to give them back their wives and children. They can take them and leave.”
23 দাউদ উত্তর দিলেন, “না না, হে আমার ভাইয়েরা, সদাপ্রভু আমাদের যা দিয়েছেন, তা নিয়ে তোমরা এরকম কোরো না। তিনি আমাদের সুরক্ষা জুগিয়েছেন ও সেই আক্রমণকারীদের আমাদের হাতে সঁপে দিয়েছেন, যারা আমাদের বিরুদ্ধে এসেছিল।
But David intervened, saying, “No, my brothers, you shouldn't do this with what the Lord has given us. He has protected us and handed over to us the raiders that had attacked us.
24 কে তোমাদের কথা শুনবে? যারা রসদসামগ্রী পাহারা দিয়েছিল তারাও, যারা যুদ্ধে গিয়েছিল, তাদের মতোই ভাগ পাবে। সবার বখরাই সমান হবে।”
Who's going to listen to you when you say such things? Whatever share those who went into battle receive will be the same as those who stayed to guard the supplies.”
25 সেদিন থেকে শুরু করে আজ পর্যন্ত দাউদ ইস্রায়েলের জন্য এই নিয়ম ও বিধি স্থির করে দিয়েছেন।
David made this the rule and regulation for Israel from that day until now.
26 সিক্লগে পৌঁছে দাউদ এই বলে লুন্ঠিত জিনিসপত্রের কিছুটা অংশ তাঁর বন্ধুস্থানীয় যিহূদার প্রাচীনদের কাছে পাঠিয়ে দিলেন যে, “সদাপ্রভুর শত্রুদের কাছ থেকে পাওয়া লুন্ঠিত জিনিসপত্র থেকে আপনাদের জন্য সামান্য উপহার পাঠাচ্ছি।”
When David got back to Ziklag, he sent some of the plunder to each of his friends among the elders of Judah, saying, “Here's a gift for you from the plunder of the Lord's enemies.”
27 দাউদ তাঁদেরই কাছে সেগুলি পাঠালেন, যাঁরা বেথেল, নেগেভের রামোৎ ও যত্তীরে থাকতেন;
David sent it to those who lived in Bethuel, Ramoth Negev, Jattir,
28 যাঁরা অরোয়ের, শিফমোৎ, ইষ্টিমোয়
Aroer, Siphmoth, Eshtemoa,
29 ও রাখলে থাকতেন; যাঁরা যিরহমেলীয়দের ও কেনীয়দের নগরগুলিতে থাকতেন;
Racal, and the towns of the Jerahmeelites and Kenites,
30 যাঁরা হর্মা, বোর-আশন, অথাক
Hormah, Bor-ashan, Athach,
31 ও হিব্রোণে থাকতেন; তথা অন্যান্য সেইসব স্থানে থাকতেন, যেখানে যেখানে তিনি ও তাঁর লোকজন ঘুরে বেড়াতেন।
Hebron—all the places David and his men had gone to.
