1 এদিকে হয়েছে কী, শমূয়েল মারা গেলেন ও সমস্ত ইস্রায়েল একত্রিত হয়ে তাঁর জন্য শোকপ্রকাশ করল; এবং তারা তাঁকে রামায় তাঁর ঘরেই কবর দিয়েছিল। পরে দাউদ পারণ মরুভূমির দিকে চলে গেলেন।

And Samuel died; and all the Israelites assembled, and lamented him, and buried him in his house at Ramah. And David arose, and went down to the wilderness of Paran.

2 মায়োনে কোনো একজন লোক ছিল, কর্মিলে তার কিছু বিষয়সম্পত্তি ছিল ও সে খুব ধনীও ছিল। তার কাছে 1,000 ছাগল ও 3,000 মেষ ছিল, সে তখন কর্মিলে সেগুলির লোম ছাঁটছিল।

And [there] was a man in Maon, whose possessions [were] in Carmel; and the man [was] very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

3 তার নাম নাবল ও তার স্ত্রীর নাম অবীগল। অবীগল খুব বুদ্ধিমতী ও সুন্দরী ছিলেন, কিন্তু তাঁর স্বামী ছিল অভদ্র ও বেয়াদব—সে ছিল কালেব বংশীয় একজন লোক।

Now the name of the man [was] Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and [she was] a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man [was] churlish and evil in his doings; and he [was] of the house of Caleb.

4 দাউদ মরুপ্রান্তরে থাকার সময় শুনতে পেয়েছিলেন যে নাবল মেষের লোম ছাঁটছে।

And David heard in the wilderness that Nabal was shearing his sheep.

5 তাই তিনি তার কাছে দশজন যুবককে পাঠিয়ে তাদের বলে দিলেন, “তোমরা কর্মিলে নাবলের কাছে গিয়ে তাকে আমার নামে শুভেচ্ছা জানাবে।

And David sent ten young men, and David said to the young men, Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name:

6 তাকে গিয়ে বোলো: ‘আপনি দীর্ঘজীবী হোন! আপনি কুশলে থাকুন ও আপনার পরিবারও কুশলে থাকুক! এবং আপনার সর্বস্বের কুশল হোক!

And thus shall ye say to him that liveth [in prosperity], Peace [be] both to thee, and peace [be] to thy house, and peace [be] to all that thou hast.

7 “‘আমি শুনতে পেয়েছি এখন নাকি মেষের লোম ছাঁটার সময়। আপনার রাখালরা যখন আমাদের সঙ্গে ছিল, আমরা তাদের সঙ্গে খারাপ ব্যবহার করিনি, আর যতদিন তারা কর্মিলে ছিল তাদের কোনো কিছুই হারায়নি।

And now I have heard that thou hast shearers: now thy shepherds who were with us, we hurt them not, neither was there aught missing to them, all the while they were in Carmel.

8 আপনার দাসদের জিজ্ঞাসা করুন, তারাই আপনাকে বলে দেবে। অতএব আমার লোকজনের প্রতি একটু অনুগ্রহ দেখান, যেহেতু আমরা উৎসবের দিনে এলাম। আপনি যা পারেন, দয়া করে আপনার এই দাসদের ও আপনার ছেলে দাউদের হাতে তা তুলে দিন।’”

Ask thy young men, and they will show thee. Wherefore let the young men find favor in thy eyes: for we come in a good day: give, I pray thee, whatever cometh to thy hand, to thy servants, and to thy son David.

9 দাউদের লোকজন নাবলের কাছে পৌঁছে দাউদের নাম করে তাকে এসব কথা বলল। পরে তারা অপেক্ষা করল।

And when David's young men came, they spoke to Nabal in the name of David, according to all these words, and ceased.

10 নাবল দাউদের দাসদের উত্তর দিয়েছিল, “কে এই দাউদ? কে এই যিশয়ের ছেলে? আজকাল বিস্তর দাস তাদের প্রভুদের ছেড়ে চলে যাচ্ছে।

And Nabal answered David's servants, and said, Who [is] David? and who [is] the son of Jesse? there are many servants in these days that break away every man from his master.

11 আমি কেন আমার মেষের পশমকর্তকদের জন্য রাখা রুটি ও জল ও মাংস নিয়ে সেইসব লোকের হাতে তুলে দেব, যাদের বিষয়ে আমি জানিই না তারা কোথা থেকে এসেছে?”

Shall I then take my bread, and my water, and my flesh that I have killed for my shearers, and give [it] to men, whom I know not whence they [are]?

12 দাউদের লোকজন মুখ ফিরিয়ে চলে গেল। তাঁর কাছে ফিরে গিয়ে তারা প্রতিটি কথা বলে শুনিয়েছিল।

So David's young men turned their way, and went again, and came and told him all these sayings.

13 দাউদ তাঁর লোকজনকে বললেন, “তোমরা প্রত্যেকে কোমরে তরোয়াল বেঁধে নাও!” তারা তেমনটিই করল, ও দাউদও নিজের তরোয়ালটি বেঁধে নিয়েছিলেন। প্রায় 400 জন দাউদের সঙ্গে গেল, আর 200 জন মালপত্র দেখাশোনা করার জন্য থেকে গেল।

And David said to his men, Gird ye on every man his sword. And they girded on every man his sword; and David also girded on his sword: and there went up after David about four hundred men; and two hundred abode by the goods.

14 দাসদের মধ্যে একজন নাবলের স্ত্রী অবীগলকে বলল, “দাউদ আমাদের প্রভুকে শুভেচ্ছা জানানোর জন্য মরুপ্রান্তর থেকে দূত পাঠিয়েছিলেন, কিন্তু তিনি তাদের চূড়ান্ত অপমান করেছেন।

But one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal's wife, saying, Behold, David sent messengers from the wilderness to salute our master; and he railed at them.

15 অথচ ওই লোকগুলি আমাদের পক্ষে বড়োই ভালো ছিল। তারা আমাদের সঙ্গে খারাপ ব্যবহার করেননি, আর যতদিন আমরা মাঠে তাদের কাছে ছিলাম, আমাদের কোনো কিছুই হারায়নি।

But the men [were] very good to us, and we were not hurt, neither missed we any thing, as long as we were conversant with them, when we were in the fields:

16 যতদিন আমরা তাদের কাছে থেকে আমাদের মেষগুলি চরাতাম, রাতদিন তারা আমাদের চারপাশে তখন এক দেওয়াল হয়েই ছিল।

They were a wall to us both by night and day, all the while we were with them keeping the sheep.

17 এখন ভেবে দেখুন আপনি কী করতে পারবেন, কারণ আমাদের প্রভুর ও তার সমগ্র পরিবারের উপর সর্বনাশ ঘনিয়ে এসেছে। তিনি এমনই বজ্জাত যে কেউই তাকে কিছু বলতে পারে না।”

Now therefore know and consider what thou wilt do: for evil is determined against our master, and against all his household: for he [is such] a son of Belial, that [a man] cannot speak to him.

18 অবীগল দ্রুত ব্যবস্থা নিয়েছিলেন। তিনি 200 টুকরো রুটি, চামড়ার দুই থলি দ্রাক্ষারস, রান্নার জন্য কেটেকুটে প্রস্তুত করা পাঁচটি মেষ, পাঁচ কাঠা সেঁকা শস্যদানা, 100 তাল কিশমিশ ও 200 তাল নিংড়ানো ডুমুর নিয়ে সেগুলি গাধার পিঠে চাপিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন।

Then Abigail made haste, and took two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep ready dressed, and five measures of parched [corn], and a hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid [them] on asses.

19 পরে তিনি তাঁর দাসদের বললেন, “তোমরা এগিয়ে যাও; আমি তোমাদের পিছু পিছু আসছি।” কিন্তু তিনি তাঁর স্বামীকে কিছু বলেননি।

And she said to her servants, Go on before me; behold, I come after you. But she told not her husband Nabal.

20 তিনি যখন গাধার পিঠে চেপে পাহাড়ের সরু গিরিখাত ধরে আসছিলেন, তখন দাউদও তাঁর লোকজন নিয়ে অবীগলের দিকে নেমে আসছিলেন, ও তাদের সঙ্গে তাঁর দেখা হল।

And it was [so], [as] she rode on the ass, that she came down by the covert of the hill, and behold, David and his men came down over against her; and she met them.

21 দাউদ অল্প কিছুক্ষণ আগেই বলেছিলেন, “কোনও লাভ হয়নি—আমি অনর্থক এই লোকটির সম্পত্তি মরুপ্রান্তরে পাহারা দিয়েছি আর তার কোনো কিছুই হারায়নি। সে ভালোর বদলে আমাকে মন্দ উপহার দিয়েছে।

(Now David had said, Surely in vain have I kept all that this [man] hath in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that [pertained] to him: and he hath requited me evil for good.

22 যদি কাল সকাল পর্যন্ত আমি তার পরিবারের একটিও পুরুষ সদস্যকে জীবিত রাখি, তবে যেন ঈশ্বর দাউদকে আরও কঠোর শাস্তি দেন!”

So and more also do God to the enemies of David, if I leave of all that [pertain] to him by the morning light any male person.)

23 অবীগল দাউদকে দেখে চট করে গাধার পিঠ থেকে নেমে মাটিতে উবুড় হয়ে তাঁকে প্রণাম করলেন।

And when Abigail saw David, she hasted, and lighted off the ass, and fell before David on her face, and bowed herself to the ground.

24 তিনি দাউদের পায়ে পড়ে বললেন: “হে আমার প্রভু, আপনার দাসীকে ক্ষমা করুন, আমাকে বলতে দিন; আপনার দাসী যা বলতে চায় তা একটু শুনুন।

And fell at his feet, and said, Upon me, my lord, [upon] me [let this] iniquity [be]: and let thy handmaid, I pray thee, speak in thy audience, and hear the words of thy handmaid.

25 হে আমার প্রভু, দয়া করে সেই বজ্জাত লোকটির কথায় মনোযোগ দেবেন না। তার যেমন নাম সেও ঠিক সেরকমই—তার নামের অর্থ মূর্খ, আর মূর্খতা তার সহবর্তী। আর আমার কথা যদি বলেন, আপনার এই দাসী, আমি আমার প্রভুর পাঠানো লোকদের দেখতে পাইনি।

Let not my lord, I pray thee, regard this man of Belial, [even] Nabal; for as his name [is], so [is] he; Nabal [is] his name, and folly [is] with him: but I thy handmaid saw not the young men of my lord, whom thou didst send.

26 আর এখন, হে আমার প্রভু, আপনার ঈশ্বর জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্যি ও আপনার প্রাণের দিব্যি, যেহেতু সদাপ্রভু আপনাকে রক্তপাত করা থেকে ও নিজের হাতে প্রতিশোধ নেওয়া থেকে বিরত রেখেছেন, তাই আপনার শত্রুদের ও যারা আমার প্রভুর ক্ষতি করতে চায়, তাদের দশা যেন নাবলের মতো হয়।

Now therefore, my lord, [as] the LORD liveth, and [as] thy soul liveth, seeing the LORD hath withheld thee from coming to [shed] blood, and from avenging thyself with thy own hand, now let thy enemies, and they that seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal.

27 আপনার দাসী আমার প্রভুর কাছে এই যেসব উপহার নিয়ে এসেছে, সেগুলি যেন আপনার অনুগামী লোকদের দেওয়া হয়।

And now this blessing which thy handmaid hath brought to my lord, let it even be given to the young men that follow my lord.

28 “দয়া করে আপনার দাসীর বেয়াদবি ক্ষমা করবেন। আপনার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু নিঃসন্দেহে আমার প্রভুর জন্য এক স্থায়ী সাম্রাজ্য প্রতিষ্ঠিত করবেন, কারণ আপনি সদাপ্রভুর হয়ে যুদ্ধ করছেন, এবং আপনি যতদিন বেঁচে থাকবেন ততদিন আপনার মধ্যে কোনও অন্যায় খুঁজে পাওয়া যাবে না।

I pray thee, forgive the trespass of thy handmaid: for the LORD will certainly make my lord a sure house; because my lord fighteth the battles of the LORD, and evil hath not been found in thee [all] thy days.

29 যদি কেউ আপনার প্রাণহানি করার জন্য আপনার পশ্চাদ্ধাবনও করে, তবুও আমার প্রভুর প্রাণ আপনার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর দ্বারা জীবিতদের দলে সুরক্ষিত থাকবে, কিন্তু আপনার শত্রুদের প্রাণ গুলতির থলিতে রাখা পাথরের মতো তিনি ছুঁড়ে ফেলে দেবেন।

Yet a man hath risen to pursue thee, and to seek thy soul: but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God; and the souls of thy enemies, them shall he sling out, [as from] the middle of a sling.

30 সদাপ্রভু যখন আমার প্রভুর জন্য তাঁর করা প্রতিটি মঙ্গল-প্রতিজ্ঞা পূর্ণ করবেন ও ইস্রায়েলের উপর তাঁকে শাসনকর্তারূপে নিযুক্ত করবেন,

And it will come to pass, when the LORD shall have done to my lord according to all the good that he hath spoken concerning thee, and shall have appointed thee ruler over Israel;

31 তখন আমার প্রভুকে আর তাঁর বিবেকে অনর্থক রক্তপাতের বা নিজেরই নেওয়া প্রতিশোধের হতভম্বকারী বোঝা বয়ে বেড়াতে হবে না। আপনার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু যখন আমার প্রভুকে সাফল্য দেবেন, আপনার এই দাসীকে তখন একটু স্মরণ করবেন।”

That this will be no grief to thee, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that thou hast shed blood without cause, or that my lord hath avenged himself: but when the LORD shall have dealt well with my lord, then remember thy handmaid.

32 দাউদ অবীগলকে বললেন, “ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সেই সদাপ্রভুর গৌরব হোক, যিনি তোমাকে আজ আমার সঙ্গে দেখা করতে পাঠিয়েছেন।

And David said to Abigail, Blessed [be] the LORD God of Israel, who sent thee this day to meet me:

33 তোমার সুবিবেচনার জন্য এবং আমাকে আজ তুমি রক্তপাত করা থেকে ও নিজের হাতে প্রতিশোধ নেওয়া থেকে বিরত রেখেছ বলে তুমি ধন্যা।

And blessed [be] thy advice, and blessed [be] thou, who hast kept me this day from coming to [shed] blood, and from avenging myself with my own hand.

34 তা না হলে, যিনি আমাকে আজ তোমার ক্ষতি করা থেকে বিরত রেখেছেন সেই জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্যি, তুমি যদি তাড়াতাড়ি আমার সঙ্গে দেখা করতে না আসতে, তবে নাবলের পরিবারের একজন পুরুষ সদস্যও সকাল পর্যন্ত বেঁচে থাকত না।”

For in very deed, [as] the LORD God of Israel liveth, who hath kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left to Nabal by the morning light any male person.

35 পরে দাউদ অবীগলের আনা সবকিছু তাঁর হাত থেকে গ্রহণ করলেন ও তাঁকে বললেন, “শান্তিতে ঘরে ফিরে যাও। আমি তোমার কথা শুনেছি ও তোমার অনুরোধ রেখেছি।”

So David received from her hand [that] which she had brought him, and said to her, Return in peace to thy house; see, I have hearkened to thy voice, and have accepted thy person.

36 অবীগল যখন নাবলের কাছে ফিরে গেলেন, সে তখন বাড়িতে ছিল ও সেখানে রাজকীয় এক ভোজসভা চলছিল। সে খোশমেজাজে ছিল ও পুরোপুরি মাতাল হয়ে পড়েছিল। তাই সকাল না হওয়া পর্যন্ত অবীগল তাকে কিছু বলেননি।

And Abigail came to Nabal; and behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart [was] merry within him, for he [was] very drunken: Therefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light.

37 পরে সকালে নাবল যখন ভদ্রস্থ হল, তার স্ত্রী তাকে সব কথা বলে শুনিয়েছিলেন, ও সে মনমরা হয়ে পাথরের মতো স্তব্ধ হয়ে গেল।

But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine had left Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became [as] a stone.

38 প্রায় দশদিন পর, সদাপ্রভু নাবলকে আঘাত করলেন ও সে মারা গেল।

And it came to pass about ten days [after], that the LORD smote Nabal, that he died.

39 নাবলের মৃত্যুর খবর পেয়ে দাউদ বললেন, “সদাপ্রভুর গৌরব হোক, আমার প্রতি নাবল অবজ্ঞামূলক আচরণ করেছিল বলেই তিনি আমার পক্ষে দাঁড়িয়েছেন। তিনি তাঁর দাসকে অন্যায় করা থেকে বিরত রেখেছেন ও নাবলের অন্যায় তারই মাথায় বর্ষণ করেছেন।” পরে দাউদ অবীগলকে খবর পাঠালেন, তাঁকে তাঁর স্ত্রী হওয়ার প্রস্তাব দিলেন

And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed [be] the LORD, that hath pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and hath kept his servant from evil: for the LORD hath returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his own head. And David sent and communed with Abigail, to take her to himself for a wife.

40 তাঁর দাসেরা কর্মিলে গিয়ে অবীগলকে বলল, “দাউদ তাঁর স্ত্রী করে নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য আপনার কাছে আমাদের পাঠিয়ে দিয়েছেন।”

And when the servants of David had come to Abigail to Carmel, they spoke to her, saying, David hath sent us to thee, to take thee to him for a wife.

41 তিনি মাটিতে উবুড় হয়ে পড়ে বললেন, “আমি আপনার দাসী এবং আমি আপনার সেবা করার ও আমার প্রভুর দাসদের পা ধুয়ে দেওয়ার জন্য প্রস্তুত।”

And she arose, and bowed herself on [her] face to the earth, and said, Behold, [let] thy handmaid [be] a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord.

42 অবীগল তাড়াতাড়ি একটি গাধার পিঠে চেপে, পাঁচজন দাসী সঙ্গে নিয়ে দাউদের পাঠানো দূতদের সঙ্গে চলে গেলেন ও তাঁর স্ত্রী হলেন।

And Abigail hasted, and arose, and rode upon an ass, with five damsels of hers that went after her; and she went after the messengers of David, and became his wife.

43 দাউদ যিষ্রিয়েলীয় অহীনোয়মকেও বিয়ে করলেন, ও তারা দুজনেই তাঁর স্ত্রী হলেন।

David also took Ahinoam of Jezreel; and they were also both of them his wives.

44 কিন্তু শৌল তাঁর মেয়ে, দাউদের স্ত্রী মীখলকে গল্লীম নিবাসী লয়িশের ছেলে পল্‌টিয়েলের হাতে তুলে দিলেন।

But Saul had given Michal his daughter, David's wife, to Phalti the son of Laish, who [was] of Gallim.
