1 সদাপ্রভু শমূয়েলকে বললেন, “ইস্রায়েলের রাজারূপে আমি শৌলকে অগ্রাহ্য করেছি, তাই তুমি আর কত দিন তার জন্য কান্নাকাটি করবে? তোমার শিঙায় তেল ভরে নাও ও বেরিয়ে পড়ো; আমি তোমাকে বেথলেহেমে যিশয়ের কাছে পাঠাচ্ছি। আমি তার ছেলেদের মধ্যে একজনকে রাজা হওয়ার জন্য মনোনীত করেছি।”
And YHWH says to Samuel, “Until when are you mourning for Saul, and I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go, I send you to Jesse the Beth-Lehemite, for I have seen among his sons a king for Myself.”
2 কিন্তু শমূয়েল বললেন, “আমি কীভাবে যাব? শৌল যদি শুনতে পায়, তবে সে আমাকে মেরে ফেলবে।” সদাপ্রভু বললেন, “তুমি সাথে করে একটি বকনা-বাছুর নিয়ে গিয়ে বলো, ‘আমি সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশে বলিদান উৎসর্গ করতে এসেছি।’
And Samuel says, “How do I go? When Saul has heard, then he has slain me.” And YHWH says, “You take a heifer of the herd in your hand, and have said, I have come to sacrifice to YHWH;
3 বলিদানের অনুষ্ঠানে যিশয়কে নিমন্ত্রণ কোরো, আর আমি তোমায় জানিয়ে দেব ঠিক কী করতে হবে। আমি যার দিকে ইঙ্গিত করব, তুমি তাকেই অভিষিক্ত করবে।”
and you have called for Jesse in the sacrifice, and I cause you to know that which you do, and you have anointed for Me him of whom I speak to you.”
4 সদাপ্রভু যা বললেন শমূয়েল ঠিক তাই করলেন। তিনি বেথলেহেমে পৌঁছালে, তাঁকে দেখে নগরের প্রাচীনেরা শিহরিত হলেন। তাঁরা প্রশ্ন করলেন, “আপনি শান্তিভাব নিয়ে এসেছেন তো?”
And Samuel does that which YHWH has spoken, and comes to Beth-Lehem, and [the] elderly of the city tremble to meet him, and [one] says, “Is your coming peace?”
5 শমূয়েল উত্তর দিলেন, “হ্যাঁ, শান্তিভাব নিয়েই এসেছি; আমি সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশে বলিদান উৎসর্গ করতে এসেছি। তোমরা নিজেদের শুচিশুদ্ধ করো ও আমার সঙ্গে বলিদান উৎসর্গ করতে চলো।” পরে তিনি যিশয় ও তাঁর ছেলেদের শুদ্ধকরণ করে বলিদান উৎসর্গ করার জন্য তাঁদের নিমন্ত্রণ জানালেন।
And he says, “Peace; I have come to sacrifice to YHWH, sanctify yourselves, and you have come in with me to the sacrifice”; and he sanctifies Jesse and his sons, and calls them to the sacrifice.
6 তাঁরা সেখানে পৌঁছালে, শমূয়েল ইলীয়াবকে দেখে ভাবলেন, “সদাপ্রভুর অভিষিক্ত ব্যক্তিই নিশ্চয় এখানে সদাপ্রভুর সামনে এসে দাঁড়িয়েছে।”
And it comes to pass, in their coming in, that he sees Eliab and says, “Surely His anointed [is] here before YHWH.”
7 কিন্তু সদাপ্রভু শমূয়েলকে বললেন, “এর চেহারা বা উচ্চতা দেখতে যেয়ো না, কারণ আমি একে অগ্রাহ্য করেছি। মানুষ যা দেখে সদাপ্রভু তা দেখেন না। মানুষ বাইরের চেহারাই দেখে, কিন্তু সদাপ্রভু অন্তর দেখেন।”
And YHWH says to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance, and at the height of his stature, for I have rejected him; for [it is] not as man sees—for man looks at the eyes, and YHWH looks at the heart.”
8 পরে যিশয় অবীনাদবকে ডেকে তাকে শমূয়েলের সামনে দিয়ে হাঁটালেন। কিন্তু শমূয়েল বললেন, “সদাপ্রভু একেও মনোনীত করেননি।”
And Jesse calls to Abinadab, and causes him to pass by before Samuel; and he says, “Indeed, YHWH has not fixed on this [one].”
9 যিশয় পরে শম্মকে হাঁটালেন, কিন্তু শমূয়েল বললেন, “সদাপ্রভু একেও মনোনীত করেননি।”
And Jesse causes Shammah to pass by, and he says, “Indeed, YHWH has not fixed on this [one].”
10 যিশয় তাঁর সাত ছেলেদের প্রত্যেককেই শমূয়েলের সামনে দিয়ে হাঁটালেন, কিন্তু শমূয়েল তাঁকে বললেন, “সদাপ্রভু এদের কাউকেই মনোনীত করেননি।”
And Jesse causes seven of his sons to pass by before Samuel, and Samuel says to Jesse, “YHWH has not fixed on these.”
11 অতএব তিনি যিশয়কে প্রশ্ন করলেন, “তোমার কি এই কটিই ছেলে আছে?” “সবচেয়ে ছোটো একজন আছে,” যিশয় উত্তর দিলেন। “সে তো মেষ চরাচ্ছে।” শমূয়েল বললেন, “তাকে ডেকে পাঠাও; সে না আসা পর্যন্ত আমরা খেতে বসব না।”
And Samuel says to Jesse, “Are the young men finished?” And he says, “Yet the youngest has been left; and behold, he delights himself among the flock”; and Samuel says to Jesse, “Send and take him, for we do not turn around until his coming in here.”
12 অতএব যিশয় লোক পাঠিয়ে তাকে ডেকে আনালেন। সে ছিল সুস্বাস্থ্যের অধিকারী ও তার চোখদুটি ছিল সুন্দর এবং দেখতেও সে ছিল রূপবান। তখন সদাপ্রভু বলে উঠলেন, “ওঠো ও একে অভিষিক্ত করো; এই সেই লোক।”
And he sends, and brings him in, and he [is] ruddy, with beautiful eyes, and of good appearance; and YHWH says, “Rise, anoint him, for this [is] he.”
13 তাই শমূয়েল তেলের শিঙা নিয়ে তাকে তার দাদাদের উপস্থিতিতে অভিষিক্ত করলেন, আর সেইদিন থেকেই সদাপ্রভুর আত্মা দাউদের উপর সপরাক্রমে নেমে এলেন। পরে শমূয়েল রামায় চলে গেলেন।
And Samuel takes the horn of oil, and anoints him in the midst of his brothers, and the Spirit of YHWH prospers over David from that day and onward; and Samuel rises and goes to Ramath.
14 ইত্যবসরে সদাপ্রভুর আত্মা শৌলকে ছেড়ে গেলেন, এবং সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকে এক মন্দ আত্মা এসে তাঁকে উত্যক্ত করল।
And the Spirit of YHWH turned aside from Saul, and a spirit of sadness from YHWH terrified him;
15 শৌলের পরিচারকেরা তাঁকে বলল, “দেখুন, ঈশ্বরের কাছ থেকে আসা এক মন্দ-আত্মা আপনাকে উত্যক্ত করছে।
and the servants of Saul say to him, “Now behold, a spirit of sadness [from] God is terrifying you;
16 আমাদের প্রভু এখানে তাঁর দাসদের আদেশ করুন, আমরা এমন একজনকে খুঁজে আনি যে বীণা বাজাতে পারে। মন্দ আত্মাটি যখন ঈশ্বরের কাছ থেকে আপনার উপর নেমে আসবে তখন সে বীণা বাজাবে, এবং আপনার ভালো লাগবে।”
now let our lord command your servants before you [that] they seek a skillful man playing on a harp, and it has come to pass, in the spirit of sadness [from] God being on you, that he has played with his hand and [it is] well with you.”
17 অতএব শৌল তাঁর পরিচারকদের বললেন, “এমন কাউকে খুঁজে বের করো যে বেশ ভালো বাজাতে জানে এবং তাকে আমার কাছে নিয়ে এসো।”
And Saul says to his servants, “Now provide for me a man playing well—then you have brought [him] to me.”
18 দাসদের মধ্যে একজন উত্তর দিল, “আমি বেথলেহেম নিবাসী যিশয়ের ছেলেদের মধ্যে একজনকে দেখেছি যে বীণা বাজাতে জানে। সে একজন বীরপুরুষ ও এক যোদ্ধাও। সে বেশ ভালো কথা বলে ও রূপবানও বটে। সদাপ্রভুও তার সহবর্তী।”
And one of the servants answers and says, “Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Beth-Lehemite, skillful in playing, and a mighty, virtuous man, and a man of battle, and intelligent in word, and a man of form, and YHWH [is] with him.”
19 তখন শৌল যিশয়ের কাছে দূত পাঠিয়ে বললেন, “আমার কাছে তোমার ছেলে সেই দাউদকে পাঠিয়ে দাও, যে মেষপাল দেখাশোনা করছে।”
And Saul sends messengers to Jesse and says, “Send to me your son David, who [is] with the flock.”
20 অতএব যিশয় একটি গাধার পিঠে কিছু রুটি ও এক মশক ভরা দ্রাক্ষারস, এবং একটি কচি পাঁঠা সমেত তাঁর ছেলে দাউদকে শৌলের কাছে পাঠিয়ে দিলেন।
And Jesse takes a donkey, bread, and a bottle of wine, and one kid of the goats, and sends [them] by the hand of his son David to Saul.
21 দাউদ শৌলের কাছে এসে তাঁর সেবাকাজে বহাল হলেন। শৌলের তাকে খুব পছন্দ হল, এবং দাউদ তাঁর অস্ত্র-বহনকারীদের মধ্যে একজন হয়ে গেলেন।
And David comes to Saul, and stands before him, and he loves him greatly; and he is a bearer of his weapons.
22 পরে শৌল যিশয়কে বলে পাঠালেন, “দাউদকে আমার সেবাকাজে বহাল থাকতে দাও, কারণ আমার ওকে ভালো লেগেছে।”
And Saul sends to Jesse, saying, “Please let David stand before me, for he has found grace in my eyes.”
23 যখনই ঈশ্বরের কাছ থেকে আত্মাটি নেমে আসত, দাউদ তার বীণাটি নিয়ে বাজাতে শুরু করতেন। তখনই শৌল স্বস্তি পেতেন; তাঁর ভালো লাগত, ও মন্দ আত্মাটি তাঁকে ছেড়ে চলে যেত।
And it has come to pass, in the spirit of [sadness from] God being on Saul, that David has taken the harp, and played with his hand, and Saul has refreshment and gladness, and the spirit of sadness has turned aside from off him.
