প্রথম রাজাবলি 17
1 ইত্যবসরে গিলিয়দের তিশবী থেকে আসা তিশবীয় এলিয় আহাবকে বললেন, “আমি যাঁর সেবা করি, ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সেই জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্যি, আমি না বলা পর্যন্ত পরবর্তী কয়েক বছর দেশে শিশির বা বৃষ্টি, কিছুই পড়বে না।”
And Elijah the Tishbite [who was] of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, [As] the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
2 পরে এলিয়ের কাছে সদাপ্রভুর এই বাক্য এসেছিল:
And the word of the LORD came to him, saying,
3 “এই স্থানটি ছেড়ে চলে যাও, পূর্বদিকে ফিরে জর্ডন নদীর পূর্বপারে করীতের সরু গিরিখাতে গিয়ে লুকিয়ে থাকো।
Depart hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that [is] before Jordan.
4 তুমি সেই স্রোতের জল পান করবে, এবং আমি দাঁড়কাকদের নির্দেশ দিয়ে রেখেছি, তারা সেখানে তোমাকে খাবার জোগাবে।”
And it shall be, [that] thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
5 সদাপ্রভু তাঁকে যা বললেন, তিনি তাই করলেন। তিনি জর্ডন নদীর পূর্বপারে করীতের সরু গিরিখাতের দিকে গিয়ে সেখানেই থেকে গেলেন।
So he went and did according to the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that [is] before Jordan.
6 দাঁড়কাকেরা সকাল-সন্ধ্যায় তাঁর কাছে রুটি ও মাংস নিয়ে আসত, এবং তিনি সেই স্রোতের জল পান করতেন।
And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.
7 দেশে বৃষ্টি না হওয়ার কারণে কিছুদিন পর সেই স্রোতটি শুকিয়ে গেল।
And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.
8 তখন সদাপ্রভুর এই বাক্য তাঁর কাছে এসেছিল:
And the word of the LORD came to him, saying,
9 “এক্ষুনি তুমি সীদোনের এলাকাভুক্ত সারিফতে চলে যাও ও সেখানে গিয়েই থাকো। আমি সেখানে একজন বিধবাকে নির্দেশ দিয়ে রেখেছি, সে তোমাকে খাবার জোগাবে।”
Arise, go to Zarephath, which [belongeth] to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
10 অতএব তিনি সারিফতে চলে গেলেন। তিনি যখন নগরের সিংহদুয়ারে পৌঁছালেন, একজন বিধবা সেখানে তখন কাঠকুটো সংগ্রহ করছিল। তিনি তাকে ডেকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তুমি কি আমার জন্য এক পাত্র জল এনে দিতে পারবে, যেন আমি তা পান করতে পারি?”
So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman [was] there gathering sticks: and he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
11 সে যখন জল আনতে যাচ্ছিল তখন তিনি আবার তাকে ডেকে বললেন, “আর দয়া করে আমার জন্য এক টুকরো রুটিও এনো।”
And as she was going to bring [it], he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thy hand.
12 “আপনার ঈশ্বর জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্যি,” সে উত্তর দিয়েছিল, “আমার কাছে কোনও রুটি নেই—আছে শুধু একটি পাত্রে পড়ে থাকা একমুঠো ময়দা আর একটি বয়ামে পড়ে থাকা সামান্য একটু জলপাই তেল। আমি ঘরে নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য কয়েকটি কাঠকুটো কুড়াচ্ছি, যেন আমার ও আমার ছেলের জন্য একটু খাবার তৈরি করে আমরা তা খেয়ে মরি।”
And she said, [As] the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but a handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and behold, I [am] gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13 এলিয় তাকে বললেন, “ভয় পেয়ো না। ঘরে গিয়ে তোমার কথামতোই কাজ করো। কিন্তু তোমার কাছে যা আছে তা দিয়ে প্রথমে আমার জন্য ছোটো এক টুকরো রুটি তৈরি করে সেটি আমার কাছে নিয়ে এসো, পরে তোমার নিজের ও তোমার ছেলের জন্য কিছু তৈরি কোরো।
And Elijah said to her, Fear not; go [and] do as thou hast said: but make me of it a little cake first, and bring [it] to me, and afterward make for thee and for thy son.
14 কারণ ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু একথাই বলেন: ‘যতদিন না সদাপ্রভু দেশে বৃষ্টি পাঠাচ্ছেন, ততদিন ময়দার এই পাত্র শূন্য হবে না ও তেলের বয়ামও শুকিয়ে যাবে না।’”
For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day [that] the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.
15 সে গিয়ে এলিয়ের কথামতোই কাজ করল। তাতে প্রতিদিন সেখানে এলিয়ের এবং সেই মহিলা ও তার ছেলের জন্য খাবারের ব্যবস্থা হল।
And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat [many] days.
16 কারণ এলিয়ের মাধ্যমে বলা সদাপ্রভুর সেই কথা সত্যি প্রমাণিত করে ময়দার সেই পাত্র শূন্য হয়নি এবং তেলের বয়ামও শুকিয়ে যায়নি।
[And] the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by Elijah.
17 পরে কোনও এক সময় সেই বাড়ির কর্ত্রী মহিলাটির ছেলে অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়েছিল। তার অবস্থা ক্রমাগত খারাপের দিকে যাচ্ছিল, এবং শেষ পর্যন্ত তার শ্বাসপ্রশ্বাস বন্ধ হয়ে গেল।
And it came to pass after these things [that] the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so severe, that there was no breath left in him.
18 সেই মহিলাটি এলিয়কে বলল, “হে ঈশ্বরের লোক, আমি আপনার কী ক্ষতি করেছি? আপনি কি আমার পাপের কথা মনে করাতে ও আমার ছেলেকে মেরে ফেলতে এখানে এসেছেন?”
And she said to Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come to me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?
19 “তোমার ছেলেকে আমার হাতে তুলে দাও,” এলিয় উত্তর দিলেন। তিনি তার হাত থেকে ছেলেটিকে নিয়ে উপরের সেই ঘরটিতে চলে গেলেন, যেখানে তিনি থাকার জন্য উঠেছিলেন, এবং ছেলেটিকে নিজের বিছানায় শুইয়ে দিলেন।
And he said to her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.
20 পরে তিনি সদাপ্রভুর কাছে চিৎকার করে বললেন, “হে আমার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু, তুমি কি এই বিধবা মহিলাটির ছেলেকে মেরে ফেলে তার জীবনে বিপর্যয় আনতে চাইছ, যার ঘরে আমি এখন এসে থাকছি?”
And he cried to the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?
21 একথা বলে তিনি তিনবার ছেলেটির উপর শুয়ে পড়েছিলেন ও চিৎকার করে সদাপ্রভুকে বললেন, “হে আমার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু, এই ছেলেটির শরীরে প্রাণ ফিরে আসুক!”
And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried to the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.
22 সদাপ্রভু এলিয়ের আর্তনাদ শুনেছিলেন, এবং ছেলেটির শরীরে তার প্রাণ ফিরে এসেছিল, ও সে বেঁচে উঠেছিল।
And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
23 এলিয় ছেলেটিকে কোলে তুলে নিয়ে সেই ঘর থেকে নিচে বাড়িতে নেমে এলেন। তাকে তার মায়ের হাতে তুলে দিয়ে তিনি বললেন, “এই দেখো, তোমার ছেলে বেঁচে আছে!”
And Elijah took the child, and brought him down from the chamber into the house, and delivered him to his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
24 তখন সেই মহিলাটি এলিয়কে বলল, “এখন আমি বুঝলাম যে আপনি ঈশ্বরের লোক এবং আপনার মুখ থেকে বেরিয়ে আসা সদাপ্রভুর বাক্যই সত্যি।”
And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou [art] a man of God, [and] that the word of the LORD in thy mouth [is] truth.
