1 ইস্রায়েলীরা সবাই একসাথে হিব্রোণে দাউদের কাছে এসে বলল, “আমরা আপনার রক্ত-সম্পর্কের আত্মীয়।

Then did all Israel gather themselves together to David, unto Hebron, saying, —Lo! thy bone and thy flesh, are we.

2 অতীতে, এমনকি শৌল যখন রাজা ছিলেন, আপনিই তো ইস্রায়েলের সামরিক অভিযানে তাদের নেতৃত্ব দিতেন। আপনার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুও আপনাকে বললেন, ‘তুমি আমার প্রজা ইস্রায়েলের পালক হবে, ও তুমিই তাদের শাসক হবে।’”

Moreover also, in time past even when Saul was king, thou, wast he that led out and brought in Israel, —and Yahweh thy God said unto thee, Thou, shalt shepherd my people Israel, Yea, thou, shalt be chief ruler, over my people Israel.

3 ইস্রায়েলের প্রাচীনেরা সবাই যখন হিব্রোণে রাজা দাউদের কাছে এলেন, তিনি তখন সদাপ্রভুকে সাক্ষী রেখে হিব্রোণে তাদের সাথে একটি চুক্তি করলেন, এবং শমূয়েলের মাধ্যমে সদাপ্রভুর করা প্রতিজ্ঞানুসারে তারা দাউদকে ইস্রায়েলের উপর রাজারূপে অভিষিক্ত করলেন।

Thus came all the elders of Israel unto the king, to Hebron, and David solemnised to them a covenant in Hebron, before Yahweh, —and they anointed David to be king over Israel, according to the word of Yahweh, through Samuel.

4 দাউদ ও ইস্রায়েলীরা সবাই জেরুশালেমের (অর্থাৎ, যিবূষের) দিকে কুচকাওয়াজ করে এগিয়ে গেলেন। সেখানে বসবাসকারী যিবূষীয়েরা

Then went David and all Israel to Jerusalem, the same, was Jebus, —where were the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land.

5 দাউদকে বলল, “তুমি এখানে ঢুকতে পারবে না।” তা সত্ত্বেও, দাউদ সিয়োনের দুর্গটি দখল করে নিয়েছিলেন—যা হল কি না সেই দাউদ-নগর।

And the inhabitants of Jebus said unto David, Thou shalt not come in hither, —But David captured the citadel of Zion, the same, is the city of David.

6 দাউদ বললেন, “যে কেউ যিবূষীয়দের বিরুদ্ধে আক্রমণে নেতৃত্ব দেবে, তাকে প্রধান সেনাপতি করা হবে।” সরূয়ার ছেলে যোয়াবই প্রথমে উঠে গেলেন, আর তাই তিনিই প্রধান সেনাপতি হলেন।

And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites, first, shall become a chief, and a ruler, —So then Joab son of Zeruiah, went up first, and became a chief.

7 দাউদ পরে সেই দুর্গে বসবাস করতে শুরু করলেন, আর তাই সেটি দাউদ-নগর নামে পরিচিত হল।

And David dwelt in the citadel, —for this cause, did they call it, The City of David.

8 দুর্গটি মাঝখানে রেখে তিনি মণ্ডপ থেকে শুরু করে চারপাশে প্রাচীর গড়ে দিয়ে নগরটি গেঁথে তুলেছিলেন, অন্যদিকে যোয়াব নগরের বাদবাকি অংশ মেরামত করলেন।

And he built the city round about, from Millo even as far as the circuit, —but, Joab, suffered the remainder of the city to live.

9 আর দাউদ উত্তরোত্তর শক্তিশালী হয়ে উঠেছিলেন, কারণ সর্বশক্তিমান সদাপ্রভু তাঁর সঙ্গে ছিলেন।

Thus did David wax greater and yet greater, —and, Yahweh of Hosts, was with him.

10 এরাই দাউদের বলবান যোদ্ধাদের মধ্যে প্রধান ছিলেন—তারা ইস্রায়েলের সব মানুষজনকে সাথে নিয়ে সদাপ্রভুর করা প্রতিজ্ঞানুসারে গোটা দেশের উপর তাঁর রাজপদ সুস্থির করার জন্য সাহায্যের মজবুত হাত বাড়িয়ে দিলেন—

Now, these, are the chiefs of the heroes, that pertained to David, who held strongly with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make him king, —according to the word of Yahweh, concerning Israel.

11 দাউদের বলবান যোদ্ধাদের তালিকাটি এইরকম: হকমোনীয়দের মধ্যে একজন, সেই যাশবিয়াম ছিলেন কর্মকর্তাদের মধ্যে প্রধান; তিনি সেই তিনশো জনের বিরুদ্ধে তাঁর বর্শা উঠিয়েছিলেন, যাদের তিনি সম্মুখসমরে একবারেই হত্যা করলেন।

And, this, is the number of the heroes who pertained to David, —Jashobeam son of a Hachmonite, chief of the thirty, the same, brandished his spear over three hundred—slain at one time.

12 তাঁর পরের জন ছিলেন তিনজন বলবান যোদ্ধাদের মধ্যে একজন, অহোহীয় দোদয়ের ছেলে সেই ইলিয়াসর।

And, after him, was Eleazar son of Dodai, the Ahohite, —he, was among the three heroes;

13 ফিলিস্তিনীরা যখন পস-দম্মীমে যুদ্ধ করার জন্য সমবেত হল, তখন তিনি দাউদের সাথে সেখানেই ছিলেন। সেটি সেই স্থান, যেখানে যবে পরিপূর্ণ একটি ক্ষেত ছিল, এবং সৈন্যদল ফিলিস্তিনীদের কাছ থেকে পালিয়ে গেল।

he, was with David in Pas-dammim, where, the Philistines, were gathered together to battle, and there was a field-plot full of barley, —and, the people, fled, from before the Philistines;

14 কিন্তু তারা সেই ক্ষেতের মাঝখানে গিয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছিলেন। তারা সেটি রক্ষা করলেন ও ফিলিস্তিনীদের আঘাত করলেন, এবং সদাপ্রভু এক মহাবিজয় সম্পন্ন করলেন।

so they took their stand in the midst of the plot and rescued it, and smote the Philistines, —and Yahweh wrought a great victory.

15 একদল ফিলিস্তিনী যখন রফায়ীম উপত্যকায় শিবির করে বসেছিল তখন ত্রিশজন প্রধানের মধ্যে তিনজন অদুল্লম গুহায় অবস্থিত সেই শিলাপাথরের কাছাকাছি থাকা দাউদের কাছে নেমে এলেন।

And three of the thirty chiefs went down upon the rock, unto David, into the cave of Adullam, —a host of Philistines, being encamped in the vale of Rephaim.

16 সেই সময় দাউদ দুর্গের মধ্যেই ছিলেন, এবং দুর্গ রক্ষার জন্য মোতায়েন ফিলিস্তিনী সৈন্যদল বেথলেহেমে অবস্থান করছিল।

Now, David, then was in the stronghold, —and, a garrison of Philistines, then was in Bethlehem.

17 দাউদ তৃষ্ণায় কাতর হয়ে বলে উঠেছিলেন, “হায়, কেউ যদি আমার জন্য বেথলেহেমের ফটকের কাছে অবস্থিত সেই কুয়ো থেকে একটু জল এনে দিত!”

And David longed, and said—Who will give me to drink of the water, out of the well of Bethlehem, that is within the gate?

18 অতএব সেই তিনজন ফিলিস্তিনী সৈন্যশিবির পার করে বেথলেহেমের সিংহদুয়ারের কাছে অবস্থিত কুয়ো থেকে জল তুলে দাউদের কাছে নিয়ে এলেন। কিন্তু তিনি তা পান করতে চাননি; তা না করে, তিনি সেই জল সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশে ঢেলে দিলেন।

And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was within the gate, and bare it, and brought it in unto David, —yet would not David drink it, but poured it out unto Yahweh;

19 “ঈশ্বর যেন আমাকে এরকম করা থেকে বিরত রাখেন!” তিনি বললেন। “যারা তাদের জীবন বিপন্ন করে সেখানে গেল, আমি কি তাদের রক্ত পান করব?” যেহেতু তারা সেই জল আনার জন্য তাদের জীবনের ঝুঁকি নিয়েছিলেন, তাই দাউদ তা পান করতে চাননি। সেই তিনজন বলবান যোদ্ধা এরকমই সব উজ্জ্বল কীর্তি স্থাপন করে গেলেন।

and said—Far be it from me, of my God, that I should do this! The blood of these men, shall I drink, with their lives? For, with their lives, have they brought it! So he would not drink it. These things, did the three heroes.

20 যোয়াবের ভাই অবীশয় সেই তিনজনের মধ্যে প্রধান ছিলেন। তিনি তিনশো জন লোকের বিরুদ্ধে বর্শা উঠিয়ে তাদের হত্যা করলেন, এবং এভাবেই সেই তিনজনের মতো বিখ্যাত হয়ে গেলেন।

And, Abishai brother of Joab—he, was the chief of three, he, having brandished his spear against three hundred—who were slain, —and so, he, had a name among three.

21 তিনি সেই তিনজনকে ছাপিয়ে দ্বিগুণ সমাদরের পাত্র হলেন এবং সেই তিনজনের মধ্যে গণ্য না হয়েও তিনি তাদের সেনাপতি হয়ে গেলেন।

Of the three in the second rank, was he honourable, therefore became he their captain, —though, unto the [first] three, did he not attain.

22 কব্‌সীলের এক বীর যোদ্ধা, তথা যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায় বিশাল সব উজ্জ্বল কীর্তি স্থাপন করলেন। তিনি মোয়াবের অত্যন্ত বলশালী দুই যোদ্ধাকে মেরে ফেলেছিলেন। এছাড়াও একদিন যখন খুব তুষারপাত হচ্ছিল, তখন তিনি একটি গর্তের মধ্যে নেমে গিয়ে একটি সিংহকে মেরে ফেলেছিলেন।

Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, son of a man of valour, hero of many a deed, from Kabziel—he, smote the two [sons] of Ariel of Moab, he, also went down and smote a lion in the midst of a pit, in time of snow;

23 এছাড়াও তিনি এমন এক মিশরীয়কে মেরে ফেলেছিলেন, যে উচ্চতায় 2.3 মিটার লম্বা ছিল। যদিও সেই মিশরীয়র হাতে তাঁতির দণ্ডের মতো একটি বর্শা ছিল, তবু বনায় একটি মুগুর হাতে নিয়ে তার দিকে এগিয়ে গেলেন। তিনি সেই মিশরীয়ের হাত থেকে বর্শাটি কেড়ে নিয়ে তার বর্শা দিয়েই তাকে হত্যা করলেন।

he, also smote an Egyptian, a man of [great] stature, five cubits, and, in the hand of the Egyptian, was a spear like a weaver’s beam, so he went down unto him with a staff, —and wrested the spear out of the hand of the Egyptian, and slew him with his spear.

24 যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায়ের উজ্জ্বল সব কীর্তি এরকমই ছিল; তিনিও সেই তিনজন বলবান যোদ্ধার মতোই বিখ্যাত হয়ে গেলেন।

These things, did Benaiah son of Jehoiada, so, he, had a name among three heroes.

25 সেই ত্রিশজনের মধ্যে যে কোনো একজনের তুলনায় তাঁকেই বেশি সম্মান দেওয়া হত, কিন্তু তিনি সেই তিনজনের মধ্যে গণ্য হননি। আর দাউদ তাঁকে তাঁর দেহরক্ষীদের তত্ত্বাবধায়ক করে দিলেন।

Among the thirty, lo! honourable, was he, but, unto the [first] three, did he not attain, —howbeit David set him over his council.

26 বলবান যোদ্ধারা হলেন: যোয়াবের ভাই অসাহেল, বেথলেহেমের অধিবাসী দোদয়ের ছেলে ইলহানন,

Now, the heroes of the forces, were, —Asahel, brother of Joab, Elhanan, son of Dodo, of Bethlehem;

27 হরোরীয় শম্মোৎ, পলোনীয় হেলস,

Shammoth, the Harorite, Helez the Paltite;

28 তকোয়ের অধিবাসী ইক্কেশের ছেলে ঈরা, অনাথোতের অধিবাসী অবীয়েষর,

Ira, son of Ikkesh, the Tekoite, Abiezer, the Anathothite;

29 হূশাতীয় সিব্বখয়, অহোহীয় ঈলয়,

Sibbecai, the Hushathite, Ilai, the Ahohite;

30 নটোফাতীয় মহরয়, নটোফাতীয় বানার ছেলে হেলদ,

Maharai, the Netophathite, Heled, son of Baanah, the Netophathite;

31 বিন্যামীনের গিবিয়ার অধিবাসী রীবয়ের ছেলে ইথয়, পিরিয়াথোনীয় বনায়,
