1 ১ যে বারবার অনুযুক্ত হয়েও ঘাড় শক্ত করে, সে হঠাৎ ভেঙে পড়বে, তার প্রতীকার হবে না।

2 ২ ধার্ম্মিকেরা বাড়লে প্রজারা আনন্দ করে, কিন্তু দুষ্ট লোক কর্তৃত্ব পেলে প্রজারা শোকার্ত হয়।

The comynalte schal be glad in the multipliyng of iust men; whanne wickid men han take prinshod, the puple schal weyle.

3 ৩ যে প্রজ্ঞা ভালবাসে, সে বাবার আনন্দজনক হয়; কিন্তু যে বেশ্যাতে আসক্ত হয়, তার ধন নষ্ট হবে।

A man that loueth wisdom, makith glad his fadir; but he that nurschith `an hoore, schal leese catel.

4 ৪ রাজা ন্যায় বিচার করে দেশ প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন; কিন্তু উপহার প্রিয় তা লন্ডভন্ড করে।

A iust king reisith the lond; an auerouse man schal distrie it.

5 ৫ যে ব্যক্তি নিজের প্রতিবেশীর তোষামোদ করে, সে তার পায়ের নীচে জাল পাতে।

A man that spekith bi flaterynge and feyned wordis to his frend; spredith abrood a net to hise steppis.

6 ৬ দুর্বৃত্তের অধর্মে ফাঁদ থাকে, কিন্তু ধার্মিক আনন্দিত হয়ে গান করে।

A snare schal wlappe a wickid man doynge synne; and a iust man schal preise, and schal make ioye.

7 ৭ ধার্মিক দীনহীনদের বিচার বোঝে; দুষ্ট লোক জ্ঞান বোঝে না।

A iust man knowith the cause of pore men; an vnpitouse man knowith not kunnyng.

8 ৮ নিন্দাপ্রিয়েরা নগরে আগুন লাগিয়ে দেয়; কিন্তু জ্ঞানবানেরা রাগ ফিরিয়ে দেয়।

Men ful of pestilence distryen a citee; but wise men turnen awei woodnesse.

9 ৯ অজ্ঞানের সঙ্গে জ্ঞানবানের ঝগড়া হলে, সে রাগ করুক কি হাঁসুক, কিছুই শান্তি হয় না।

If a wijs man stryueth with a fool; whether he be wrooth, `ether he leiyith, he schal not fynde reste.

10 ১০ রক্তপাতকারীরা সিদ্ধ লোককে ঘৃণা করে; আর সরল লোকের প্রাণনাশের চেষ্টা করে।

Menquelleris haten a simple man; but iust men seken his soule.

11 ১১ নির্বোধ নিজের সব রাগ প্রকাশ করে, কিন্তু জ্ঞানী তা সম্বরণ করে রাগ কমায়।

A fool bringith forth al his spirit; a wise man dilaieth, and reserueth in to tyme comynge afterward.

12 ১২ যে শাসনকর্ত্তা মিথ্যা কথায় কান দেয়, তার পরিচারকেরা সকলে দুষ্ট।

A prince that herith wilfuli the wordis of a leesyng; schal haue alle mynystris vnfeithful.

13 ১৩ দরিদ্র ও উপদ্রবী এক সঙ্গে মেলে; সদাপ্রভু উভয়েরই চোখ আলোকিত করেন।

A pore man and a leenere metten hem silf; the Lord is liytnere of euer ethir.

14 ১৪ যে রাজা বিশ্বস্তভাবে দীনহীনদের বিচার করেন, তাঁর সিংহাসন চিরকাল স্থির থাকবে।

If a kyng demeth pore men in treuthe; his trone schal be maad stidfast with outen ende.

15 ১৫ দন্ড ও তিরস্কার প্রজ্ঞা দেয়; কিন্তু অশাসিত বালক মায়ের লজ্জাজনক।

A yerde and chastisyng schal yyue wisdom; but a child, which is left to his wille, schendith his modir.

16 ১৬ দুষ্টরা বাড়লে অধর্ম্ম বাড়ে; কিন্তু ধার্মিকরা তাদের পতন দেখবে।

Grete trespassis schulen be multiplied in the multipliyng of wickid men; and iust men schulen se the fallyngis of hem.

17 ১৭ তোমার ছেলেকে শাস্তি দাও, সে তোমাকে শান্তি দেবে, সে তোমার প্রাণকে আনন্দিত করবে।

Teche thi sone, and he schal coumforte thee; and he schal yyue delicis to thi soule.

18 ১৮ দর্শনের অভাবে প্রজারা উচ্ছৃঙ্খল হয়; কিন্তু যে ব্যবস্থা মানে, সে ধন্য হয়।

Whanne prophesie faylith, the puple schal be distried; but he that kepith the lawe, is blessid.

19 ১৯ বাক্য দিয়ে দাসের শাসন হয় না, কারণ সে বুঝলেও কথা মানবে না।

A seruaunt mai not be tauyt bi wordis; for he vndirstondith that that thou seist, and dispisith for to answere.

20 ২০ তুমি কি হটকারী লোককে দেখছ? তার থেকে বরং নির্বোধের বিষয়ে বেশী আশা আছে।

Thou hast seyn a man swift to speke; foli schal be hopid more than his amendyng.

21 ২১ যে দাসকে ছোট বেলা থেকে সুন্দর ভাবে প্রতিপালন করে, শেষে সেই দাস তার ছেলে হয়ে ওঠে।

He that nurschith his seruaunt delicatli fro childhod; schal fynde hym rebel aftirward.

22 ২২ রাগী লোক ঝগড়া সৃষ্টি করে, রাগী লোক অনেক অধর্ম্ম করে।

A wrathful man territh chidingis; and he that is liyt to haue indignacioun, schal be more enclynaunt to synnes.

23 ২৩ মানুষের অহঙ্কার তাকে নীচে নামাবে, কিন্তু কোমল হৃদয়ের লোক সম্মান পাবে।

Lownesse sueth a proude man; and glorie schal vp take a meke man of spirit.

24 ২৪ চোরের অংশীদার নিজের প্রাণকে ঘৃণা করে; সে দিব্যি করাবার কথা শোনে, কিন্তু কিছু বলে না।

He that takith part with a theef, hatith his soule; he herith a man chargynge greetli, and schewith not.

25 ২৫ লোক-ভয় ফাঁদের মত; কিন্তু যে সদাপ্রভুতে বিশ্বাস করে, সে উচ্চে স্থাপিত হবে।

He that dredith a man, schal falle soon; he that hopith in the Lord, shal be reisid.

26 ২৬ অনেকে শাসনকর্ত্তার অনুগ্রহ খোঁজে; কিন্তু মানুষের বিচার সদাপ্রভু থেকেই হয়।

Many men seken the face of the prince; and the doom of alle men schal go forth of the Lord.

27 ২৭ অন্যায়কারী ব্যক্তি ধার্ম্মিকদের ঘৃণাস্পদ; আর সরল আচরণকারী দুষ্টের ঘৃণাস্পদ।

Iust men han abhomynacioun of a wickid man; and wickid men han abhomynacioun of hem, that ben in a riytful weye. A sone kepynge a word, schal be out of perdicioun.
