হিতোপদেশ 10

1 ১ জ্ঞানবান ছেলে বাবার আনন্দজনক, কিন্তু বুদ্ধিহীন ছেলে মায়ের বেদনাজনক।

The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

2 ২ দুষ্টতার দ্বারা সঞ্চিত ধনের কোনো মূল্য নেই, কিন্তু ধার্ম্মিকতা মৃত্যু থেকে রক্ষা করে।

Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.

3 ৩ সদাপ্রভু ধার্ম্মিকের প্রাণ ক্ষুধায় দুর্বল হতে দেন না; কিন্তু তিনি দুষ্টদের অভিলাষ ব্যর্থ করেন।

The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he thrusteth away the desire of the wicked.

4 ৪ যে অলস হাতে কাজ করে, সে দরিদ্র হয়; কিন্তু পরিশ্রমীদের হাত ধনবান করে।

He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

5 ৫ যে গ্রীষ্মকালে সঞ্চয় করে, সে বুদ্ধিমান ছেলে; যে শস্য কাটবার দিন ঘুমিয়ে থাকে, তার জন্য লজ্জাকর।

He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: [but] he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

6 ৬ ধার্ম্মিকের মাথায় অনেক আশীর্বাদ থাকে; কিন্তু দুষ্টদের মুখ হিংস্রতা ঢেকে রাখে।

Blessings are upon the head of the righteous: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

7 ৭ একজন লোক যে সঠিক কাজ করেছে তা আমাদেরকে আনন্দিত করে যখন আমরা তার বিষয়ে ভাবি; কিন্তু দুষ্টদের নাম সরে যাবে।

The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

8 ৮ যে বিচক্ষণ সে আদেশ গ্রহণ করে, কিন্তু অজ্ঞান বাচাল পতিত হবে।

The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

9 ৯ সে সততায় চলে, সে নির্ভয়ে চলে; কিন্তু কুটিলাচারীকে চেনা যাবে।

He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.

10 ১০ যে চোখ দিয়ে ইশারা করে, সে দুঃখ দেয়; আর তার অজ্ঞান বাচাল তাকে ধ্বংস করে।

He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.

11 ১১ ধার্ম্মিকের মুখ জীবনের উনুই; কিন্তু দুষ্টদের মুখ হিংস্রতা ঢেকে রাখে।

The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

12 ১২ ঘৃণা ঝগড়া বাড়ায়, কিন্তু প্রেম সব অধর্ম্ম ঢেকে দেয়।

Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all transgressions.

13 ১৩ জ্ঞানবানের ঠোঁটে প্রজ্ঞা পাওয়া যায়, কিন্তু বুদ্ধিবিহীনের পেছনে দন্ড রয়েছে।

In the lips of him that hath discernment wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

14 ১৪ জ্ঞানবানেরা জ্ঞান সঞ্চয় করে, কিন্তু অজ্ঞানের মুখ সর্বনাশকে কাছে নিয়ে আসে।

Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is a present destruction.

15 ১৫ ধনবানের ধনই তার শক্তিশালী নগর, দরিদ্রদের দারিদ্রতাই তাদের সর্বনাশ।

The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.

16 ১৬ ধার্ম্মিকের পারিশ্রমিক জীবনজনক, দুষ্টদের লাভ পাপজনক।

The labour of the righteous [tendeth] to life; the increase of the wicked to sin.

17 ১৭ যে শাসন মানে, সে জীবন পথে চলে; কিন্তু যে অনুযোগ মানেনা, সে পথভ্রষ্ট হয়।

He is in the way of life that heedeth correction: but he that forsaketh reproof erreth.

18 ১৮ যে ঘৃণা করে ঢেকে রাখে, তার ঠোঁট মিথ্যাবাদী; এবং যে অপবাদ ছড়ায়, সে বোকা।

He that hideth hatred is of lying lips; and he that uttereth a slander is a fool.

19 ১৯ প্রচুর বাক্যে অধর্ম্ম অনুপস্থিত থাকে না; কিন্তু যে তাতে সাবধান থাকে যা সে বলে, সেই হল জ্ঞানী।

In the multitude of words there wanteth not transgression: but he that refraineth his lips doeth wisely.

20 ২০ ধার্ম্মিকের জিভ বিশুদ্ধ রূপার মত, দুষ্টদের হৃদয়ের মূল্য কম।

The tongue of the righteous is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.

21 ২১ ধার্ম্মিকের ঠোঁট অনেককে প্রতিপালন করে, কিন্তু অজ্ঞানেরা বুদ্ধির অভাবে মারা পড়ে।

The lips of the righteous feed many: but the foolish die for lack of understanding.

22 ২২ সদাপ্রভুর ভালো উপহার ধনসম্পদ আনে এবং তিনি তার সঙ্গে দুঃখ যুক্ত করেন না।

The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow therewith.

23 ২৩ খারাপ কাজ করা অজ্ঞানের আনন্দ, আর প্রজ্ঞা বুদ্ধিমানের আনন্দ।

It is as sport to a fool to do wickedness: and [so is] wisdom to a man of understanding.

24 ২৪ দুষ্ট যা ভয় করে, তার প্রতি তাই ঘটবে; কিন্তু ধার্ম্মিকদের ইচ্ছা সফল হবে।

The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: and the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

25 ২৫ যখন ঘূর্ণবায়ু বয়ে যায়, দুষ্ট আর নেই; কিন্তু ধার্মিক চিরস্থায়ী ভিত্তিমূলের মত।

When the whirlwind passeth, the wicked is no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

26 ২৬ যেমন দাঁতের পক্ষে অম্লরস ও চোখের পক্ষে ধোঁয়া, তেমনি নিজের প্রেরণ কর্তাদের পক্ষে অলস।

As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

27 ২৭ সদাপ্রভুর ভয় আয়ুবৃদ্ধি করে, কিন্তু দুষ্টদের বছরের সংখ্যা কমবে।

The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

28 ২৮ ধার্ম্মিকদের প্রত্যাশা আনন্দজনক; কিন্তু দুষ্টদের আশ্বাস কম হবে।

The hope of the righteous [shall] be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

29 ২৯ সদাপ্রভুর পথ সততার পক্ষে দুর্গ, কিন্তু তা অধর্মাচারীদের পক্ষে সর্বনাশ।

The way of the LORD is a strong hold to the upright; but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.

30 ৩০ ধার্মিক লোক কখনও নিপাতিত হবে না; কিন্তু দুষ্টরা দেশে থাকবে না।

The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not dwell in the land.

31 ৩১ ধার্ম্মিকের মুখ প্রজ্ঞার ফলে ফলবান্; কিন্তু বিপথগামীদের জিভ কাটা যাবে।

The mouth of the righteous bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut off.

32 ৩২ ধার্ম্মিকের ঠোঁট গ্রহণযোগ্যতার বিষয় জানে, কিন্তু দুষ্টদের মুখ কুটিলতামাত্র।

The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked [speaketh] frowardness.
