বিচারকর্ত্তৃগণের বিবরণ 1
1 ১ যিহোশূয়ের মৃত্যুর পরে ইস্রায়েলের লোকেরা সদাপ্রভুর কাছে এই কথা জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “কনানীয়দের বিরুদ্ধে, তাদের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করার জন্য, প্রথমে আমাদের কে যাবে?”
And it came to pass, after the death of Joshua, that the sons of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying, —Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites, first, to make war upon them?
And Yahweh said—Judah, shall go, —lo! I have delivered the land into his power.
3 ৩ পরে যিহূদা তার ভাই শিমিয়োনকে বলল, “তুমি আমার জায়গায় আমার সঙ্গে এস, আমরা কনানীয়দের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করি; পরে আমিও তোমার জায়গায় তোমার সঙ্গে যাব।” তাতে শিমিয়োন তার সঙ্গে গেল।
Then said Judah, unto Simeon his brother—Come up with me into the territory allotted me, and let us make war on the Canaanites, then will, I also, go with thee, into thy territory. So Simeon went with him.
4 ৪ যিহূদা গেলেন, আর সদাপ্রভু তাদের হাতে কনানীয় ও পরিষীয়দেরকে সমর্পণ করলেন; আর তারা বেষকে তাদের দশহাজার লোককে হত্যা করল।
And Judah went up, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, —and they smote them in Bezek, ten thousand men.
And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek, and fought with him, —and smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
6 ৬ তখন অদোনী-বেষক পালিয়ে গেল; আর তারা তার পিছন পিছন দৌড়িয়ে গিয়ে তাঁকে ধরল এবং তাঁর হাত ও পায়ের বুড়ো আঙ্গুল কেটে দিল।
But Adoni-bezek fled, and they pursued him, —and took him, and cut off his thumbs, and his great toes.
7 ৭ তখন অদোনী-বেষক বললেন, “যাদের হাত ও পায়ের বুড়ো আঙ্গুল বাদ দেওয়া হয়েছিল, এমন সত্তর জন রাজা আমার মেজের (টেবিলের) নীচে খাবার কুড়াতেন; আমি যেমন কাজ করেছি, ঈশ্বর আমাকেও সেরকম প্রতিফল দিয়েছেন।” পরে লোকেরা তাকে যিরুশালেমে আনলে তিনি সেই জায়গায় মারা গেলেন।
Then said Adoni-bezek—Seventy kings, with their thumbs and great toes cut off, have been picking up crumbs under my table, as I have done, so, hath God requited me. And they brought him into Jerusalem, and he died there.
8 ৮ আর যিহূদার লোকেরা যিরুশালেমের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করে তা নিজেদের অধিকারে নিল ও তরোয়াল দিয়ে আঘাত করল এবং আগুন দিয়ে নগর পুড়িয়ে দিল।
And the sons of Judah made war upon Jerusalem, and captured it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, —and, the city, they set on fire.
9 ৯ পরে যিহূদা সন্তানরা কনানীয়দের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করতে নেমে গেল যারা পাহাড়ের দক্ষিণ দিকে এবং পশ্চিমীয় পাদদেশে বাস করত।
And, afterwards, the sons of Judah went down to make war upon the Canaanites, —dwelling in the hill country, and in the south, and in the lowland.
10 ১০ আর যিহূদা হিব্রোণবাসী কনানীয়দের বিরুদ্ধে যাত্রা করে শেশয়, অহীমান ও তলময়কে আঘাত করল; আগে ঐ হিব্রোণের নাম কিরিয়ৎ সেফর ছিল।
And Judah went against the Canaanites who were dwelling in Hebron, now, the name of Hebron, formerly, was Kiriath-arba, —and they smote Sheshai and Ahiman, and Talmai.
And he went from thence, against the inhabitants of Debir, —now, the name of Debir, formerly, was Kiriath-sepher.
12 ১২ আর কালেব বললেন, “যে কেউ কিরিয়ৎ-সেফরকে আঘাত করে নিজের অধিকারে আনবে, তার সঙ্গে আমি নিজের মেয়ে অক্ষার বিয়ে দেব।”
And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and captureth it, I will give unto him Achsah my daughter, to wife.
13 ১৩ এবং কালেবের ছোট ছেলে কনসের ছেলে অৎনীয়েল তা নিজের অধিকারে আনলে তিনি তার সঙ্গে নিজের মেয়ে অক্ষার বিয়ে দিলেন।
Then Othniel, son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, captured it, —and he gave him Achsah his daughter, to wife.
14 ১৪ আর ঐ মেয়ে এসে তার বাবার কাছে একখানি জমি চাইতে স্বামীকে পরামর্শ দিল এবং সে গাধার পিঠ থেকে নামল; কালেব তাকে বললেন, “তুমি কি চাও?”
And it came pass, when she came, that she moved him to ask of her father a field, and, when she alighted from off the ass, Caleb said unto her—What aileth thee?
15 ১৫ সে তাকে বলল, “আপনি আমাকে এক উপহার দিন; দক্ষিণাঞ্চল ভূমি আমাকে দিয়েছেন, জলের উনুইগুলিও আমাকে দিন।” তাতে কালেব তাকে উচ্চতর উনুইগুলি ও নিম্নতর উনুইগুলি দিলেন।
And she said unto him—Give me a present; for, south land, hast thou given me, give me therefore pools of water. So Caleb gave her Upper-pools, and Lower-pools.
16 ১৬ পরে মোশির সম্বন্ধীয় কেনীয়ের লোকেরা যিহূদার লোকদের সঙ্গে খর্জ্জূরপুর থেকে অরাদের দক্ষিণদিকে অবস্থিত যিহূদা মরুপ্রান্তে উঠে গেল; তারা গিয়ে লোকদের মধ্যে বাস করল।
Now, the sons of the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, had come up from the city of palm-trees, with the sons of Judah, into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad, —so they went and dwelt with the people.
17 ১৭ আর যিহূদা নিজের ভাই শিমিয়োনের সঙ্গে গেল এবং তারা সফাৎবাসী কনানীয়দেরকে আঘাত করে ওই নগর নিঃশেষে বিনষ্ট করল। আর সেই নগরের নাম হর্মা [বিনষ্ট] হল।
Then went Judah, with Simeon his brother, and they smote the Canaanites dwelling in Zephath, —and devoted it to destruction, and the name of the city was called Hormah.
And Judah captured Gaza with the boundaries thereof, and Ashkelon, with the boundaries thereof, —and Ekron, with the boundaries thereof.
19 ১৯ সদাপ্রভু যিহূদার সহবর্ত্তী ছিলেন, সে পাহাড়ী অঞ্চলগুলি অধিকার করল; কিন্তু সে তলভূমি-নিবাসীদেরকে অধিকার থেকে বঞ্চিত করতে পারল না, কারণ তাদের লোহার রথ ছিল।
And it same to pass that Yahweh was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, —but did not dispossess the inhabitants of the vale, because they had, chariots of iron.
20 ২০ আর মোশি যেমন বলেছিলেন, সেই অনুসারে তারা কালেবকে হিব্রোণ দিল এবং তিনি সেখান থেকে অনাকের তিন ছেলেকে তাড়িয়ে দিলেন।
So they gave unto Caleb Hebron, as spake Moses, —and he drave out from thence the three sons of Anak.
21 ২১ কিন্তু বিন্যামীনের লোকেরা যিরুশালেম-নিবাসী যিবূষীয়দেরকে তাড়ালো না; যিবূষীয়েরা আজ পর্যন্ত যিরুশালেমে বিন্যামীন লোকদের সঙ্গে বাস করছে।
But, the Jebusites dwelling in Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin did not drive out, —but the Jebusites have dwelt with the sons of Benjamin, in Jerusalem, unto this day.
Then went up the house of Joseph—they also, —unto Bethel, —and, Yahweh, was with them.
And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel, —now, the name of the city, formerly, was, Luz.
24 ২৪ আর সেই গুপ্তচরেরা ঐ নগর থেকে এক জনকে বাইরে আসতে দেখে তাকে বলল, “অনুরোধ করি, নগর প্রবেশের পথ আমাদেরকে দেখিয়ে দাও; দিলে আমরা তোমার প্রতি দয়া করব।”
So the watchers saw a man, coming forth from the city, —and they said unto him—Shew us, we pray thee, the way to get into the city, and we will deal with thee, in lovingkindness.
25 ২৫ তাতে সে তাদেরকে নগরে প্রবেশ করার রাস্তা দেখিয়ে দিল, আর তারা খড়গের আঘাতে সেই নগরবাসীদেরকে আঘাত করল, কিন্তু ঐ ব্যক্তিকে ও তার সমস্ত পরিবারকে ছেড়ে দিল।
And he shewed them the way to get into the city, and they smote the city, with the edge of the sword, —but, the man and all his family, they let go.
26 ২৬ পরে ঐ ব্যক্তি হিত্তীয়দের দেশে গিয়ে এক নগর সৃষ্টি করে তার নাম লূস রাখল; তা আজ পর্যন্ত সেই নামে পরিচিত আছে।
And the man went into the land of the Hittites, —and built a city, and called the name thereof, Luz, that, is the name thereof, unto this day.
27 ২৭ আর মনঃশি গ্রামগুলোর সঙ্গে বৈৎ-শান, গ্রামগুলোর সঙ্গে তানক, গ্রামগুলোর সঙ্গে দোর, গ্রামগুলোর সঙ্গে যিব্লিয়ম, ও গ্রামগুলোর সঙ্গে মগিদ্দো, এই সব জায়গার বসবাসকারীদের তাড়াল না; কনানীয়েরা সে দেশে বাস করতে দৃঢ়প্রতিজ্ঞ ছিল।
But Manasseh took not possession of Beth-shean and her towns, nor of Taanach and her towns, nor dispossessed the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam, and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo, and her towns, —but the Canaanites were determined to remain in this land;
28 ২৮ পরে ইস্রায়েল যখন শক্তিশালী হল, তখন সেই কনানীয়দেরকে তাদের দাস করল, কিন্তু সম্পূর্ণভাবে তাড়াল না।
when Israel, however, had waxed strong, they put the Canaanites under tribute, —though they, dispossessed, them not.
29 ২৯ আর ইফ্রয়িম গেষর-নিবাসী কনানীয়দেরকে বঞ্চিত করল না; কনানীয়েরা গেষরে তাদের মধ্যে বাস করতে লাগল।
And, Ephraim, dispossessed not the Canaanites who were dwelling in Gezer, —so the Canaanites remained in their midst, in Gezer.
30 ৩০ সবূলূন কিটরোণ ও নহলোল নিবাসীদেরকে তাড়াল না; কনানীয়েরা তাদের মধ্যে বাস করতে লাগল, আর তাদের দাস হল।
Zebulun, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol, —but the Canaanites remained in their midst, and came under tribute.
Asher, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, —nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;
but the Asherites dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —for they dispossessed them not.
33 ৩৩ নপ্তালি বৈৎ-শেমশের ও বৈৎ-অনাত-নিবাসীদেরকে তাড়িয়ে দিল না; তারা কনানীয়দের মধ্যে বাস করল, আর বৈৎ-শেমশের ও বৈৎ-অনাতনিবাসীরা তাদের দাস হল।
Naphtali, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but they dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —and, the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, and of Beth-anath, became theirs, under tribute.
And the Amorites forced the sons of Dan into the hill country, —for they suffered them not to come down into the vale;
35 ৩৫ ইমোরীয়েরা হেরস পর্বত, অয়ালোনে ও শালবীমে বসবাস করতে থাকল; কিন্তু যোষেফ-কুল তাদের পরাজিত করল, তাতে তারা তাদের দাস হল।
and, though the Amorites were determined to remain in the hill country of Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, yet was the hand of the house of Joseph heavy, so that they came under tribute.
And, the boundary of the Amorites, was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upwards.
