1 ১ পরে শূহীয় বিলদদ উত্তর দিল এবং বলল,

Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said:

2 ২ “কতদিন তুমি এইসব কথা বলবে? কতদিন তোমার মুখের কথা ঝড়ো বাতাসের মত বয়ে চলবে?

How long wilt thou speak such things? How long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?

3 ৩ ঈশ্বর কি ন্যায়বিচার পরিবর্তন করবেন? সর্বশক্তিমান কি ধার্মিকতার পরিবর্তন করবেন?

Will God pervert judgment? Or will the Almighty pervert justice?

4 ৪ তোমার সন্তানরা তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে পাপ করেছে; আমরা জানি তা, তিনি তাদেরকে তাদের পাপের হাতে সমর্পণ করেছেন।

As thy children sinned against him, He hath given them up to their transgression.

5 ৫ কিন্তু যদি তুমি স্বযত্নে ঈশ্বরকে ডাক এবং তোমার অনুরোধ সর্বশক্তিমানের সামনে রাখো।

But if thou wilt seek early to God, And make thy supplication to the Almighty, —

6 ৬ যদি তুমি শুদ্ধ এবং সরল হও; তাহলে তিনি অবশ্যই তোমার জন্য কাজ করবেন এবং তোমায় পুরস্কৃত করবেন একটি বাড়ি দিয়ে যা সত্যিই তোমারই হবে।

If thou wilt be pure and upright, Surely he will yet arise for thee, And prosper thy righteous habitation;

7 ৭ এমনকি যদিও তোমার শুরু ছোট ছিল, তবুও তোমার শেষ অবস্থা খুব ভালো হবে।

So that thy beginning shall be small, And thy latter end very great.

8 ৮ আমি প্রার্থনা করি, আগেকার লোকেদেরকে জিজ্ঞাসা কর; আমাদের পূর্বপুরুষ যা আবিষ্কার করেছেন তা শিখতে যত্ন কর।

For inquire, I pray thee, of the former age, And mark what hath been searched out by their fathers;

9 ৯ আমরা গতকাল জন্মেছি এবং কিছুই জানি না কারণ আমাদের আয়ু পৃথিবীতে ছায়ার মত।

(For we are of yesterday and know nothing, Since our days upon the earth are but a shadow; )

10 ১০ তারা কি তোমায় শেখাবে না এবং বলবে না? তারা কি তাদের হৃদয় থেকে কথা বলবে না?

Will not they instruct thee, and tell thee, And utter words from their understanding?

11 ১১ জলাভূমি ছাড়া কি নলখাগড়া বাড়তে পারে? জল ছাড়া কি উলুখাগড়া বাড়তে পারে?

“Can the paper-reed grow up without mire? Can the bulrush grow without water?

12 ১২ যখন সেগুলো সতেজ থাকে, তা কাটা হয় না, তারা অন্য যে কোন ঘাসের থেকে আগে শুকিয়ে যায়।

While it is yet in its greenness, and is not cut down, It withereth before any other herb.

13 ১৩ যারা ঈশ্বরকে ভুলে যায় তাদের রাস্তাও সেই রকম, অধার্ম্মিক লোকের আশা নষ্ট হবে,

Such is the fate of all who forget God; So perisheth the hope of the ungodly.

14 ১৪ তাদের যাদের আস্থা ভেঙে যায় এবং তাদের যাদের বিশ্বাস দুর্বল যেমন একটা মাকড়সার জালের মত।

His confidence shall come to nought, And his trust shall prove a spider's web.

15 ১৫ সেই রকম লোক নিজের বাড়ির ওপর নির্ভর করবে, কিন্তু তা দাঁড়াবে না; সে শক্ত করে ধরবে, কিন্তু তা টিকবে না।

He shall lean upon his house, and it shall not stand; He shall lay fast hold on it, but it shall not endure.

16 ১৬ সূর্য্যের নিচে সে সতেজ এবং তার কান্ড পুরো বাগানে ছড়িয়ে পরে।

He is in full green before the sun, And his branches shoot forth over his garden;

17 ১৭ তার শিকড় পাথরের ঢিবি জড়িয়ে ধরে; পাথরের মধ্যে তারা ভালো জায়গা খোঁজে।

His roots are entwined about the heap, And he seeth the place of stones;

18 ১৮ কিন্তু যদি এই লোকটি নিজের জায়গায় ধ্বংস হয়, তাহলে সেই জায়গা তাকে অস্বীকার করবে এবং বলবে, আমি কখনও তোমায় দেখিনি।

When he shall be destroyed from his place, It shall deny him, saying, 'I never saw thee.'

19 ১৯ দেখ, এই হয় সেই রকম ব্যক্তির আচরণের আনন্দ, অন্য উদ্ভিদ সেই একই মাটি থেকে অঙ্কুরিত হবে তার জায়গায়।

Lo! such is the joy of his course! And others shall spring up from his place”

20 ২০ দেখ, ঈশ্বর নিরীহ মানুষকে তাড়িয়ে দেবেন না; না তিনি পাপীদের হাত গ্রহণ করবেন।

Behold, God will not cast away an upright man; Nor will he help the evil-doers.

21 ২১ তিনি এখনও তোমার মুখ হাঁসিতে পূর্ণ করবেন, তোমার ঠোঁট আনন্দে পূর্ণ করবেন।

While he filleth thy mouth with laughter, And thy lips with gladness,

22 ২২ যারা তোমায় ঘৃণা করবে তারা লজ্জায় পরবে; পাপীদের তাঁবু আর থাকবে না।”

They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame, And the dwelling-place of the wicked shall come to nought.
