যাকোব 3
1 ১ হে আমার ভাইয়েরা, অনেকে শিক্ষক হয়ো না; কারণ, তোমরা জান যে, অন্যদের থেকে আমরা যারা শিক্ষক ভারী বিচার হবে।
My brethren, be not many teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
2 ২ আমরা সকলে অনেকভাবে হোঁচট খাই। যদি কেউ বাক্যে হোঁচট না খায়, তবে সে খাঁটি মানুষ, পুরো শরীরকেই সংযত রাখতে সমর্থ।
For in many things we all offend. If any one offend not in speech, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also.
3 ৩ ঘোড়ারা যেন আমাদের বাধ্য হয়, সেইজন্য আমরা যদি তাদের মুখে বল্গা দিই, তবে তাদের পুরো শরীরও চালনা করতে পারি।
For when we put the bits into the horses' mouths, that they may obey us, we turn about also their whole body.
4 ৪ আর দেখ, জাহাজগুলিও খুব বড় এবং প্রচন্ড বাতাসে চলে, তা সত্বেও সে সেগুলিকে খুব ছোটো হালের মাধ্যমে নাবিকের মনের ইচ্ছা যে দিকে চায়, সেই দিকে চালাতে পারে।
Behold also the ships, which, though they are so great, and driven by fierce winds, are yet turned about with a very small rudder, whithersoever the steersman chooseth.
5 ৫ সেইভাবে জিভও ছোটো অঙ্গ বটে, কিন্তু বড় অহঙ্কারের কথা বলে। দেখ, কেমন ছোট আগুনের ফুলকি কেমন বৃহৎ বন জ্বালিয়ে দেয়!
So also the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a forest a little fire kindleth!
6 ৬ জিভও আগুনের মত; আমাদের সব অঙ্গের মধ্যে জিভ হল অধর্ম্মের জগত; এবং নিজে নরকের আগুনে জ্বলে উঠে সে গোটা দেহকেই নষ্ট করে এবং জীবন নষ্ট করে দেয়। (Geenna g1067)
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity! The tongue among our members is that which defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of life, and is itself set on fire by hell. (Geenna g1067)
7 ৭ পশু ও পাখি, সরীসৃপের ও সমুদ্রচর জন্তুর সমস্ত স্বভাবকে মানুষের স্বভাবের মাধ্যমে দমন করতে পারা যায় ও দমন করতে পারে এবং পেরেছে;
For every kind of beasts and of birds, of creeping things and things in the sea, is tamed and hath been tamed by mankind;
but the tongue can no man tame; it is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
9 ৯ ওর মাধ্যমেই আমরা প্রভু পিতার প্রশংসা করি, আবার ওর মাধমেই ঈশ্বরের সাদৃশ্যে সৃষ্টি মানুষদেরকে অভিশাপ দিই।
Therewith bless we the Lord and Father, and therewith curse we men, who have been made after the likeness of God;
out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
Doth a fountain from the same opening send forth sweet water and bitter?
12 ১২ হে আমার ভাইয়েরা, ডুমুরগাছে কি জলপাই, দ্রাক্ষালতায় কি ডুমুরফল হতে পারে? তেমনি নোনা জলের উত্স মিষ্টি জল দিতে পারে না।
Can a fig-tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a vine, figs? Neither can salt water yield fresh.
13 ১৩ তোমাদের মধ্যে জ্ঞানবান ও বুদ্ধিমান কে? সে ভালো আচরণের মাধ্যমে জ্ঞানের নম্রতায় নিজের কাজ দেখিয়ে দিক।
Who is wise and endued with knowledge among you P let him show out of a good course of conduct his works in meekness of wisdom.
14 ১৪ কিন্তু তোমাদের হৃদয়ে যদি তিক্ত ঈর্ষা ও স্বার্থপরতা রাখ, তবে সত্যের বিরুদ্ধে গর্ব কোরো না ও মিথ্যা বোলো না।
But if ye have bitter rivalry and strife in your hearts, do not glory and lie against the truth.
This wisdom is not that which descendeth from above, but earthly, sensual, devilish.
For where there is rivalry and strife, there is confusion and every evil work.
17 ১৭ কিন্তু যে জ্ঞান স্বর্গ থেকে আসে, তা প্রথমে শুদ্ধ, পরে শান্তিপ্রিয়, নম্র, আন্তরিক, দয়া ও ভালো ভালো ফলে ভরা, পক্ষপাতহীন ও কপটতাহীন।
But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, without hypocrisy.
And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
