শমূয়েলের দ্বিতীয় বই 17
1 ১ অহীথোফল অবশালোমকে আরও বলল, “আমি বারো হাজার লোক মনোনীত করে আজ রাতে উঠে দায়ূদের পিছনে পিছনে তাড়া করতে যাই;
Moreover Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Let me now choose twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David tonight.
2 ২ যখন তিনি ক্লান্ত ও তাঁর হাত দুর্বল হয়ে পড়বে, সেই দিনের হঠাৎ তাকে আক্রমণ করে ভয় দেখাব; তাতে তাঁর সঙ্গী সমস্ত লোক পালিয়ে যাবে, আর আমি শুধু রাজাকে আঘাত করব৷
I will come on him while he is weary and exhausted, and will make him afraid. All the people who are with him will flee. I will strike the king only,
3 ৩ এই ভাবে সমস্ত লোককে তোমার পক্ষে আনব; তুমি যাঁর অন্বেষণ করছ, তাঁরই মরণ ও সকলের ফেরা দুই সমান; সমস্ত লোক শান্তিতে থাকবে৷”
and I will bring back all the people to you. The man whom you seek is as if all returned. All the people shall be in peace.”
The saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.
Then Absalom said, “Now call Hushai the Archite also, and let’s hear likewise what he says.”
6 ৬ পরে হূশয় অবশালোমের কাছে আসলে অবশালোম তাঁকে বলল, “অহীথোফল এই ভাবে কথা বলেছে, এখন তার কথা অনুযায়ী কাজ করা আমাদের কর্তব্য কি না?
When Hushai had come to Absalom, Absalom spoke to him, saying, “Ahithophel has spoken like this. Shall we do what he says? If not, speak up.”
Hushai said to Absalom, “The counsel that Ahithophel has given this time is not good.”
8 ৮ হূশয় আরও বললেন, “আপনি নিজের বাবাকে ও তাঁর লোকদেরকে জানেন, তাঁরা বীর ও রাগী এবং মাঠের ভাল্লুকের মত, আর আপনার বাবা যোদ্ধা; তিনি লোকদের সঙ্গে রাত কাটাবেন না৷
Hushai said moreover, “You know your father and his men, that they are mighty men, and they are fierce in their minds, like a bear robbed of her cubs in the field. Your father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.
9 ৯ দেখুন, এখন তিনি কোন গর্তে কিংবা আর কোন জায়গায় লুকিয়ে আছেন; আর প্রথমে তিনি ঐ লোকদেরকে আক্রমণ করলে যে কেউ তা শুনবে, সে বলবে, অবশালোমের অনুগামী লোকরা হত্যাকান্ড করছে৷
Behold, he is now hidden in some pit, or in some other place. It will happen, when some of them have fallen at the first, that whoever hears it will say, ‘There is a slaughter among the people who follow Absalom!’
10 ১০ তা হলে বলবান লোকেরা যাদের হৃদয় সিংহের মত, সেও একদিনের দুর্বল হয়ে যাবে; কারণ সমস্ত ইস্রায়েল জানে যে, আপনার বাবা খুবই শক্তিশালী ও তাঁর সঙ্গীরা সাহসী লোক৷
Even he who is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, will utterly melt; for all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man, and those who are with him are valiant men.
11 ১১ কিন্তু আমার পরামর্শ এই, দান থেকে বের-শেবা পর্যন্ত সমুদ্র-তীরের বালির মত অসংখ্য সমস্ত ইস্রায়েল আপনার কাছে জড়ো হোক, পরে আপনি নিজে যুদ্ধে যান৷
But I counsel that all Israel be gathered together to you, from Dan even to Beersheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that you go to battle in your own person.
12 ১২ তাতে যে কোন জায়গায় তাঁকে পাওয়া যাবে, সেখানে আমরা তাঁর সামনে উপস্থিত হয়ে জমিতে শিশির পড়ার মত তাঁর উপরে উঠে পড়ব; তাঁকে বা তাঁর সঙ্গী সমস্ত লোকের মধ্যে এক জনকেও রাখব না৷
So we will come on him in some place where he will be found, and we will light on him as the dew falls on the ground, then we will not leave so much as one of him and of all the men who are with him.
13 ১৩ আর যদি তিনি কোন নগরে চলে যান, তবে সমস্ত ইস্রায়েল সেই নগরে দড়ি বাঁধবে, আর আমরা স্রোত পর্যন্ত সেটা টেনে নিয়ে যাব, শেষে সেখানে একটা পাথর কুঁচোও আর পাওয়া যাবে না৷”
Moreover, if he has gone into a city, then all Israel will bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there is not one small stone found there.”
14 ১৪ পরে অবশালোম ও ইস্রায়েলের সমস্ত লোক বলল, “অহীথোফলের পরিকল্পনার থেকে অর্কীয় হূশের পরিকল্পনা ভাল৷” বাস্তুবিক সদাপ্রভু যেন অবশালোমের ওপর অমঙ্গল ঘটাতে পারেন, তার জন্য অহীথোফলের ভাল পরিকল্পনা ব্যর্থ করার জন্য সদাপ্রভু এটা স্থির করেছিলেন৷
Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.” For the LORD had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil on Absalom.
15 ১৫ পরে হূশয় সাদোক ও অবিয়াথর এই দুই যাজককে বললেন, “অহীথোফল অবশালোমকে ও ইস্রায়েলের প্রাচীনদেরকে এই রকম পরিকল্পনা দিয়েছিল, কিন্তু আমি এই রকম পরিকল্পনা দিয়েছি৷
Then Hushai said to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, “Ahithophel counseled Absalom and the elders of Israel that way; and I have counseled this way.
16 ১৬ অতএব তোমরা তাড়াতাড়ি দায়ূদের কাছে লোক পাঠিয়ে তাঁকে বল, আপনি মরুপ্রান্তের পারঘাটায় আজকে রাতে থাকবেন না, কোন ভাবে পার হয়ে যাবেন; নাহলে মহারাজ ও আপনার সঙ্গী সমস্ত লোক নিহত হবেন৷”
Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, ‘Do not lodge tonight at the fords of the wilderness, but by all means pass over, lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people who are with him.’”
17 ১৭ তখন যোনাথন ও অহীমাস ঐন-রোগেলে ছিল; এই দাসী গিয়ে তাদেরকে খবর দিত, পরে তারা গিয়ে দায়ূদ রাজাকে খবর দিত কারণ তারা নগরে এসে দেখা করতে পারত না৷
Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying by En Rogel; and a female servant used to go and report to them, and they went and told King David; for they could not risk being seen coming into the city.
18 ১৮ কিন্তু একটা যুবক তাদেরকে দেখে অবশালোমকে জানালো; আর তারা দুজন তাড়াতাড়ি গিয়ে বহুরীমে একজন লোকের বাড়িতে প্রবেশ করল এবং তার উঠানের মধ্যে এক কুয়ো ছিল, সেই কুয়োয় নামল৷
But a boy saw them, and told Absalom. Then they both went away quickly and came to the house of a man in Bahurim, who had a well in his court; and they went down there.
19 ১৯ পরে সেই বাড়ির মহিলা কুয়োটির মুখে ঢাকা দিয়ে তার উপরে মাড়াই করা শস্য মেলে দিল, তাতে কেউ কিছু জানতে পারল না৷
The woman took and spread the covering over the well’s mouth, and spread out crushed grain on it; and nothing was known.
20 ২০ পরে অবশালোমের দাসেরা সেই মহিলাটির বাড়িতে এসে জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “অহীমাস ও যোনাথন কোথায়?” মহিলাটি তাদেরকে বলল, “তারা ঐ জলস্রোত পার হয়ে চলে গেল৷” পরে তারা খুঁজে না পেয়ে যিরূশালোমে ফিরে গেল৷
Absalom’s servants came to the woman to the house; and they said, “Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?” The woman said to them, “They have gone over the brook of water.” When they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.
21 ২১ তারা চলে যাবার পর ঐ দুজন কুয়ো থেকে উঠে গিয়ে দায়ূদ রাজাকে খবর দিল; আর তারা দায়ূদকে বলল, “আপনারা উঠুন, তাড়াতাড়ি জল পার হয়ে যান, কারণ অহীথোফল আপনাদের বিরুদ্ধে এই রকম পরিকল্পনা করেছে৷”
After they had departed, they came up out of the well and went and told King David; and they said to David, “Arise and pass quickly over the water; for thus has Ahithophel counseled against you.”
22 ২২ তাতে দায়ূদ ও তাঁর সঙ্গীরা সবাই উঠে যর্দ্দন পার হলেন; যর্দ্দন পার হন নি এরকম একজনও সকালের আলো পর্যন্ত অবশিষ্ট থাকলো না৷
Then David arose, and all the people who were with him, and they passed over the Jordan. By the morning light there lacked not one of them who had not gone over the Jordan.
23 ২৩ আর অহীথোফল যখন দেখল যে, তার পরিকল্পনা অনুযায়ী কাজ করা হল না, তখন সে গাধা সাজাল এবং উঠে নিজের বাড়িতে, নিজের নগরে গেল এবং নিজের বাড়ির সব ব্যবস্থা করে, নিজে গলায় দড়ি দিয়ে মরল৷ পরে তার বাবার কবরে তাকে কবর দেওয়া হল৷
When Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey, arose, and went home to his city, set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the tomb of his father.
Then David came to Mahanaim. Absalom passed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
25 ২৫ আর অবশালোম যোয়াবের জায়গায় অমাসাকে সৈন্যদলের উপরে নিযুক্ত করেছিল৷ ঐ অমাসা ইস্রায়েলীয় যিথ্র নামে এক ব্যক্তির ছেলে; সেই ব্যক্তি নাহশের মেয়ে অবীগলের কাছে গিয়েছিল; ওই স্ত্রী যোয়াবের মা সরূয়ার বোন৷
Absalom set Amasa over the army instead of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Ithra the Israelite, who went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah, Joab’s mother.
Israel and Absalom encamped in the land of Gilead.
27 ২৭ দায়ূদ মহনয়িমে উপস্থিত হওয়ার পর অম্মোন সন্তানদের রব্বার অধিবাসী নাহশের ছেলে শোবি, আর লোদবার অধিবাসী অম্মীয়েলের ছেলে মাখীর এবং রোগলীমের অধিবাসী গিলিয়দীয় বর্সিল্লয় দায়ূদের ও তাঁর সঙ্গী লোকদের জন্য
When David had come to Mahanaim, Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,
brought beds, basins, earthen vessels, wheat, barley, meal, parched grain, beans, lentils, roasted grain,
29 ২৯ মধু, দই এবং ভেড়ার পাল ও গরুর দুধের ছানা আনলেন৷ কারণ তাঁরা বললেন, “মরুপ্রান্তে লোকেরা ক্ষিধে, তেষ্টায় ক্লান্ত হয়েছে৷”
honey, butter, sheep, and cheese of the herd, for David and for the people who were with him to eat; for they said, “The people are hungry, weary, and thirsty in the wilderness.”
