1 ১ ইফ্রয়িমের পাহাড়ী এলাকায় রামাথয়িম (গ্রামের) সোফীম শহরে ইলকানা নামে একজন লোক ইফ্রয়িম গোষ্ঠীর লোকদের সঙ্গে বাস করতেন। তাঁর বাবার নাম ছিল যিরোহম। যিরোহম ছিলেন ইলীহূর ছেলে, ইলীহূ ছিলেন তোহের ছেলে এবং তোহ ছিলেন সুফের ছেলে।
Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim, a Zuphite of the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Toah, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
2 ২ তাঁর দুইজন স্ত্রী ছিল; এক জনের নাম হান্না আর অন্য জনের নাম পনিন্না। পনিন্নার ছেলেমেয়ে হয়েছিল, কিন্তু হান্নার কোনো ছেলেমেয়ে হয়নি।
And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other, Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3 ৩ এই ব্যক্তি প্রত্যেক বছর তাঁর শহর থেকে শীলোতে গিয়ে বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভুর উপাসনা ও বলিদান করতেন। সেখানে এলির দুই ছেলে হফ্নি ও পীনহস সদাপ্রভুর যাজক ছিল।
This man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to Jehovah of hosts in Shiloh. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests of Jehovah, were there.
When the day came for Elkanah to sacrifice, he would give portions to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and her daughters.
5 ৫ কিন্তু হান্নাকে দুই ভাগ দিতেন, কারণ তিনি হান্নাকে ভালবাসতেন। কিন্তু সদাপ্রভু হান্নাকে বন্ধ্যা করে রেখেছিলেন।
But to Hannah he would give a double portion because he loved Hannah. Now Jehovah had kept her from conceiving.
6 ৬ সদাপ্রভু তাঁকে বন্ধ্যা রেখেছিলেন বলে তাঁর সতীন (প্রতিদ্বন্দী স্ত্রী) তাঁকে দুঃখ দেবার চেষ্টায় বিরক্ত করে তুলত।
And because Jehovah kept her from conceiving, her rival used to taunt her severely, to irritate her.
7 ৭ বছরের পর বছর হান্না যখনই সদাপ্রভুর ঘরে যেতেন তখন তাঁর স্বামী ঐরকম করতেন এবং পনিন্না তাঁকে ঐভাবে বিরক্ত করতেন; তাই তিনি কিছু না খেয়ে কান্নাকাটি করতেন।
And this went on year after year, as often as she went up to the house of Jehovah, she taunted her; therefore she would weep and refuse to eat.
8 ৮ তাতে তাঁর স্বামী ইলকানা তাঁকে বলতেন, “হান্না, কেন কাঁদছ? কেন কিছু খাচ্ছ না? তোমার মনে এত দুঃখ কেন? আমি কি তোমার কাছে দশটা ছেলের চেয়েও বেশী না?”
And her husband Elkanah said to her, "Hannah, why are you weeping? And why are you not eating? And why are you so sad? Am I not better to you than ten sons?"
9 ৯ এক দিন শীলোতে খাওয়া দাওয়া শেষ করে হান্না উঠলেন৷ তখন এলি সদাপ্রভুর মন্দিরের দরজার কাছে যাজকের আসনে বসে ছিলেন।
So Hannah got up after eating and drinking in Shiloh, and stood before Jehovah. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the temple of Jehovah.
And she was greatly distressed and prayed to Jehovah, and wept uncontrollably.
11 ১১ তিনি মানত করে বললেন, “হে বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু, যদি তুমি তোমার এই দাসীর দুঃখের প্রতি মনোযোগ দাও, আমাকে স্মরণ কর এবং তোমার দাসীকে ভুলে না গিয়ে তোমার এই দাসীকে যদি একটা ছেলে দাও তবে সারা জীবনের জন্য আমি তাকে সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশ্যে দান করব; তার মাথায় ক্ষুর লাগানো হবে না।”
And she vowed a vow and said, "Jehovah of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will set him before you as a Nazirite until the day of his death. And he will not drink wine or strong drink, and no razor will come on his head."
Now it happened, as she continued praying before Jehovah, that Eli observed her mouth.
13 ১৩ হান্না মনে মনে কথা বলছিলেন, তাঁর ঠোঁট নড়ছিল, কিন্তু গলার আওয়াজ শোনা যাচ্ছিল না। সেইজন্য এলি তাঁকে মাতাল ভাবলেন।
And she was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk.
So Eli said to her, "How long will you make yourself drunk? Put away your wine, and go from before Jehovah."
15 ১৫ হান্না উত্তরে বললেন, “হে আমার প্রভু, তা নয়। আমি দুঃখিনী স্ত্রী, আমি আংগুর-রস কিংবা মদ পান করি নি। সদাপ্রভুর সামনে আমার মনের কথা ভেঙে বলেছি।
And Hannah answered, "No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before Jehovah.
16 ১৬ আপনার এই দাসীকে আপনি একজন মন্দ স্ত্রীলোক মনে করবেন না। আসলে আমার চিন্তা ও মনের দুঃখের জন্য আমি এতক্ষণ কথা বলছিলাম।”
Do not count your servant as a worthless woman; for I have been speaking out of the abundance of my distress and my anguish."
17 ১৭ তখন এলি উত্তর দিলেন, “তুমি শান্তিতে যাও; ইস্রায়েলীয়দের ঈশ্বরের কাছে তুমি যা চাইলে, তা যেন তিনি তোমাকে দেন।”
Then Eli answered, "Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of him."
18 ১৮ হান্না বললেন, “আপনার দৃষ্টিতে আপনার এই দাসী অনুগ্রহ পাক।” এই বলে তিনি তার পথে চলে গেলেন এবং খাওয়া দাওয়া করলেন। তাঁর মুখে আর দুঃখের ছায়া থাকল না।
She said, "Let your servant find favor in your sight." So the woman went her way, and entered her quarters, and ate; and her facial expression wasn't sad any more.
19 ১৯ পরে তাঁরা খুব ভোরে উঠে সদাপ্রভুর উপাসনা করলেন এবং রামায় তাঁদের নিজেদের বাড়িতে ফিরে গেলেন। পরে ইলকানা তাঁর স্ত্রী হান্নার সঙ্গে মিলিত হলে সদাপ্রভু তাঁকে স্মরণ করলেন।
They rose up in the morning early, and worshiped before Jehovah, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and Jehovah remembered her.
20 ২০ তাতে নির্দিষ্ট দিনের হান্না গর্ভবতী হয়ে একটি ছেলের জন্ম দিলেন, আর আমি সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকে তাকে চেয়ে নিয়েছি, এই বলে তার নাম শমূয়েল রাখলেন।
It happened, when the time had come, that Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, "Because I have asked him of Jehovah."
21 ২১ পরে তাঁর স্বামী ইলকানা ও তাঁর সমস্ত পরিবার সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশ্যে বার্ষিক বলিদান ও মানত নিবেদন করতে গেলেন,
The man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer to Jehovah the yearly sacrifice, and to redeem his vow and all the tithes of his land.
22 ২২ কিন্তু হান্না গেলেন না, কারণ তিনি স্বামীকে বললেন, “ছেলেটিকে বুকের দুধ ছাড়ানোর পর আমি তাকে নিয়ে যাব, তাতে সে সদাপ্রভুর সামনে উপস্থিত হয়ে সবদিন সেখানেই থাকবে।”
But Hannah did not go up; for she said to her husband, "Not until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before Jehovah, and stay there forever."
23 ২৩ তাঁর স্বামী ইলকানা তাঁকে বললেন, “তোমার দৃষ্টিতে যা ভাল মনে হয় তাই কর; তার দুধ ছাড়ানো পর্যন্ত তুমি অপেক্ষা কর; সদাপ্রভু শুধু তাঁর বাক্য পূরণ করুন।” অতএব সেই স্ত্রী বাড়ীতেই রয়ে গেলেন এবং ছেলেটিকে দুধ না ছাড়ানো পর্যন্ত তাকে দুধ পান করালেন।
Elkanah her husband said to her, "Do what seems good in your eyes. Wait until you have weaned him; only may Jehovah establish what you have said." So the woman waited and nursed her son, until she weaned him.
24 ২৪ পরে তার দুধ ছাড়ার পর তিনি তিনটি ষাঁড়, এক ঐফা সুজী ও এক থলি আংগুর-রসের সঙ্গে তাকে শীলোতে সদাপ্রভুর বাড়িতে নিয়ে গেলেন; তখন ছেলেটির অল্প বয়স ছিল।
Then she took him to Shiloh along with a three-year old bull, and bread, and an ephah of flour, and a skin of wine. And she came to the house of Jehovah in Shiloh, and the boy was with them. And they went before Jehovah and his father slaughtered the sacrifice, which he did annually to Jehovah. Then he brought the boy,
and he slaughtered the bull. And Hannah, the mother of the boy, brought him to Eli.
26 ২৬ আর হান্না বললেন, “হে আমার প্রভু, আপনার প্রাণের দিব্যি, হে আমার প্রভু, যে স্ত্রী সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশ্যে প্রার্থনা করতে করতে এখানে আপনার সামনে দাঁড়িয়েছিল, আমিই সেই।
She said, "Oh, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to Jehovah.
27 ২৭ আমি এই ছেলেটির জন্য প্রার্থনা করেছিলাম আর সদাপ্রভুর কাছে যা চেয়েছিলাম তা তিনি আমাকে দিয়েছেন।
For this child I prayed; and Jehovah has given me my petition which I asked of him.
28 ২৮ সেইজন্য আমিও একে সদাপ্রভুকে দিলাম, এ সারা জিবনের জন্য সদাপ্রভুরই থাকবে।” পরে তাঁরা সেখানে সদাপ্রভুর উপাসনা করলেন।
Therefore also I have lent him to Jehovah. As long as he lives he is lent to Jehovah." Then she left him there, and she worshipped before Jehovah.
