শমূয়েলের প্রথম বই 4
1 ১ শমূয়েলের বাক্য সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলীয়দের কাছে উপস্থিত হলো। পরে ইস্রায়েল যুদ্ধের জন্য পলেষ্টীয়দের বিরুদ্ধে বের হয়ে এবন্-এষরে শিবির স্থাপন করল এবং পলেষ্টীয়েরা অফেকে শিবির স্থাপন করল।
And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and pitched beside Eben-ezer: and the Philistines pitched in Aphek.
2 ২ আর পলেষ্টীয়েরা ইস্রায়েলের বিরুদ্ধে সৈন্য সাজাল; যখন যুদ্ধ বেধে গেল, তখন ইস্রায়েল পলেষ্টীয়দের সামনে আহত হল; তারা ঐ যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রে সৈন্যদের মধ্যে প্রায় চার হাজার লোককে মেরে ফেলল।
And the Philistines put themselves in array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was smitten before the Philistines: and they slew of the army in the field about four thousand men.
3 ৩ পরে লোকেরা শিবিরে প্রবেশ করলে ইস্রায়েলের প্রাচীনেরা বললেন, “সদাপ্রভু আজ পলেষ্টীয়দের সামনে কেন আমাদেরকে আঘাত করলেন? এস, আমরা শীলো থেকে আমাদের কাছে সদাপ্রভুর নিয়ম সিন্দুকটি নিয়ে আসি, যেন তা (নিয়ম সিন্দুক টি) আমাদের মধ্য এসে শত্রুদের হাত থেকে আমাদেরকে রক্ষা করে।”
And when the people were come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the LORD smitten us today before the Philistines? Let as fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us, that it may come among us, and save us out of the hand of our enemies.
4 ৪ সেইজন্য লোকেরা শীলোতে দূত পাঠিয়ে বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু, যিনি দুই করূবের মাঝখানে থাকেন, তাঁর নিয়ম সিন্দুক সেখান থেকে নিয়ে এল। তখন এলির দুই ছেলে, হফ্নি ও পীনহস, সেই জায়গায় ঈশ্বরের নিয়ম সিন্দুকের সঙ্গে ছিল।
So the people sent to Shiloh, and they brought from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which sitteth upon the cherubim: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
5 ৫ পরে সদাপ্রভুর নিয়ম সিন্দুকটি শিবিরে উপস্থিত হলে সমস্ত ইস্রায়েল এমন জোরে চিৎকার করে উঠল যে, পৃথিবী কাঁপতে লাগল।
And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.
6 ৬ তখন পলেষ্টীয়েরা ঐ চিৎকার শুনে জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “ইব্রীয়দের শিবিরে এত আওয়াজ হচ্ছে কেন?” পরে তারা বুঝলো, সদাপ্রভুর নিয়ম সিন্দুক শিবিরে এসেছে।
And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, What meaneth the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews? And they understood that the ark of the LORD was come into the camp.
7 ৭ তখন পলেষ্টীয়েরা ভয় পেয়ে বলল, “শিবিরে ঈশ্বর এসেছেন।” আরও বলল, “হায়, হায়! এর আগে তো কখনও এমন হয়নি।
And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore.
8 ৮ হায়, হায়, এই শক্তিশালী দেবতাদের হাত থেকে আমাদের কে রক্ষা করবে? এরা সেই দেবতা, যাঁরা মরু এলাকায় নানা রকমের আঘাতে মিশরীয়দের হত্যা করেছিলেন।
Woe unto us! who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty gods? these are the gods that smote the Egyptians with all manner of plagues in the wilderness.
9 ৯ হে পলেষ্টীয়েরা, বলবান হও, পুরুষত্ব দেখাও; ঐ ইব্রীয়েরা যেমন তোমাদের দাস হল, তেমনি তোমরা যেন তাদের দাস না হও; পুরুষত্ব দেখাও, যুদ্ধ কর।”
Be strong, and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight.
10 ১০ তখন পলেষ্টীয়েরা যুদ্ধ করলেন এবং ইস্রায়েল আহত হয়ে প্রত্যেকজন নিজের নিজের তাঁবুতে পালিয়ে গেল। আর অনেককে হত্যা করা হল, কারণ ইস্রায়েলের মধ্য ত্রিশ হাজার পদাতিক সৈন্য মারা পড়ল।
And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man to his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.
And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.
12 ১২ তখন বিন্যামীনের একজন লোক সৈন্যদলের মধ্য থেকে দৌড়ে গিয়ে সেই দিন শীলোতে উপস্থিত হল; তার পোশাক ছেঁড়া এবং মাথায় মাটি ছিল।
And there ran a man of Benjamin out of the army, and came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes rent, and with earth upon his head.
13 ১৩ যখন সে আসছিল, দেখ, পথের পাশে এলি তাঁর আসনে বসে অপেক্ষা করছিলেন; কারণ তাঁর হৃদয় ঈশ্বরের সিন্দুকের জন্য থরথর করে কাঁপছিল। পরে সেই লোকটি শহরে উপস্থিত হয়ে ঐ সংবাদ দিলে শহরের সব লোক কাঁদতে লাগলো।
And when he came, lo, Eli sat upon his seat by the way side watching: for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city, and told it, all the city cried out.
14 ১৪ আর এলি সেই কান্নার আওয়াজ শুনে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “এই কোলাহলের কারণ কি?” তখন সেই লোকটি তাড়াতাড়ি গিয়ে এলিকে খবর দিল।
And when Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, What meaneth the noise of this tumult? And the man hasted and came and told Eli.
Now Eli was ninety and eight years old; and his eyes were set, that he could not see.
16 ১৬ সেই ব্যক্তি এলিকে বলল, “আমি সৈন্যদল থেকে এসেছি, আজই সৈন্যদল থেকে পালিয়ে এসেছি।” এলি জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “বাছা, খবর কি?”
And the man said unto Eli, I am he that came out of the army, and I fled today out of the army. And he said, How went the matter, my son?
17 ১৭ যে সংবাদ এনেছিল, সে উত্তর দিল, “ইস্রায়েল পলেষ্টীয়দের সামনে থেকে পালিয়ে গেছে, আর অনেক লোক মারা পড়েছে, আপনার দুই ছেলে হফ্নি ও পীনহসও মারা গেছে এবং ঈশ্বরের সিন্দুক শত্রুরা নিয়ে গেছে।”
And he that brought the tidings answered and said, Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there hath been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God is taken.
18 ১৮ তখন সে ঈশ্বরের সিন্দুকের নাম করার সঙ্গে সঙ্গেই এলি ফটকের পাশে তাঁর আসন থেকে পিছন দিকে পড়ে গেলেন এবং তাঁর ঘাড় ভেঙে গেল, তিনি মারা গেলেন, কারণ তিনি বুড়ো হয়ে গিয়েছিলেন এবং তাঁর শরীর ভারী ছিল। তিনি চল্লিশ বছর ইস্রায়েলীয়দের বিচার করেছিলেন।
And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off his seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.
19 ১৯ তখন তাঁর ছেলের বৌ, পীনহসের স্ত্রী, গর্ভবতী ছিল, প্রসবের দিন ও ঘনিয়ে এসেছিল; ঈশ্বরের সিন্দুক শত্রুদের হাতে চলে গেছে এবং তার শ্বশুর ও স্বামী মারা গেছেন, এই খবর শুনে সে নত হয়ে প্রসব করল; কারণ প্রসব-বেদনা হঠাৎ উপস্থিত হল।
And his daughter in law, Phinehas’ wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and brought forth; for her pains came upon her.
20 ২০ তখন তার মৃত্যুর দিনের যে স্ত্রীলোকেরা কাছে দাঁড়িয়েছিল, তারা বলল, “ভয় নেই, তোমার ছেলে হয়েছে।” কিন্তু সে কোন উত্তরই দিল না, কোন কথায় মনোযোগও দিল না।
And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; for thou hast brought forth a son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it.
21 ২১ পরে সে ছেলেটির নাম ঈখাবোদ [হীনপ্রতাপ] রেখে বলল, “ইস্রায়েলের থেকে গৌরব চলে গেল,” কারণ ঈশ্বরের সিন্দুক শত্রুদের হাতে চলে গেছে এবং তার শ্বশুর ও স্বামীর মৃত্যু হয়েছিল।
And she named the child Ichabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband.
And she said, The glory is departed from Israel; for the ark of God is taken.
