1 ১ একদিন এই ঘটনা ঘটল, শৌলের ছেলে যোনাথন তাঁর অস্ত্র বহনকারী যুবকটিকে বললেন, “চল, আমরা ওপাশে পলেষ্টীয়দের সৈন্যদের ছাউনিতে যাই,” কিন্তু তিনি এই কথা তাঁর বাবাকে জানালেন না।
Now it came to pass one day that Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man that bore his armour, Come and let us go over to the Philistines' garrison which is on the other side. But he did not tell his father.
2 ২ তখন শৌল গিবিয়ার সীমানায় মিগ্রোণের একটা ডালিম গাছের তলায় ছিলেন এবং তাঁর সঙ্গে প্রায় ছয়শো লোক ছিল।
And Saul abode at the extreme end of Gibeah under the pomegranate-tree which [was] in Migron; and the people that were with him were about six hundred men.
3 ৩ আর এলি, যিনি শীলোতে সদাপ্রভুর যাজক ছিলেন, তার সন্তান পীনহসের ছেলে ঈখাবোদের ভাই অহীটূবের ছেলে যে অহিয়, তিনি এফোদ পরেছিলেন। আর যোনাথন যে বের হয়ে গেছেন, সেই কথা লোকেরা জানত না।
(And Ahijah the son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, Jehovah's priest in Shiloh, wore the ephod.) And the people did not know that Jonathan was gone.
4 ৪ যোনাথন যে গিরিপথ দিয়ে পলেষ্টীয়দের সৈন্য-ছাউনির কাছে যাওয়ার চেষ্টা করলেন, সেই ঘাটের মাঝখানের একপাশে একটি খাড়া উঁচু পাহাড়ের দেওয়াল এবং অন্য পাশে আর একটি খাড়া উঁচু পাহাড়ের দেওয়াল ছিল; তার একটির নাম বোৎসেস ও অন্যটির নাম সেনি।
Now between the passes by which Jonathan sought to go over to the Philistines' garrison there was a sharp rock on the one side and a sharp rock on the other side; and the name of the one [was] Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.
The one crag [formed] a pillar on the north opposite to Michmash, and the other on the south opposite to Geba.
6 ৬ আর যোনাথন তাঁর অস্ত্র বহনকারী যুবকটিকে বললেন, “চল, আমরা ওপাশে ঐ অচ্ছিন্নত্বক লোকদের ছাউনিতে যাই; হয়তো সদাপ্রভু আমাদের জন্য কিছু করবেন, কারণ অনেক লোক দিয়ে হোক বা কম লোক দিয়ে হোক, উদ্ধার করতে কোন কিছুই সদাপ্রভুকে বাধা দিতে পারে না।”
And Jonathan said to the young man that bore his armour, Come, and let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised: perhaps Jehovah will work for us; for there is no restraint to Jehovah to save by many or by few.
7 ৭ তখন তাঁর অস্ত্র বহনকারী লোকটি বলল, “আপনার মন যা বলে, তাই করুন; সেই দিকে যান, দেখুন, আপনার ইচ্ছামতই আমি আপনার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে আছি।”
And his armour-bearer said to him, Do all that is in thy heart; turn thee; behold, I am with thee according to thy heart.
Then said Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over to the men, and we will shew ourselves to them.
9 ৯ যদি তারা আমাদের এই কথা বলে, ‘থাক, আমরা তোমাদের কাছে আসছি,’ তাহলে আমরা আমাদের জায়গায় দাঁড়িয়ে থাকব, ওদের কাছে উঠে যাব না।
If they say thus to us, Stand still until we come to you, then we will stay in our place, and will not go up to them.
10 ১০ কিন্তু যদি এই কথা বলে, ‘আমাদের কাছে উঠে এস,’ তাহলে আমরা উঠে যাব, কারণ সদাপ্রভু আমাদের হাতে ওদের তুলে দিয়েছেন; ওটাই আমাদের চিহ্ন হবে।”
And if they say thus, Come up to us, then we will go up; for Jehovah has given them into our hand; and this shall be the sign to us.
11 ১১ পরে তাঁরা দুই জন পলেষ্টীয় সৈন্যদের সামনে গিয়ে দেখা দিলে পলেষ্টীয়েরা বলল, “দেখ, ইব্রীয়েরা যারা গর্তে লুকিয়ে ছিল, তা থেকে এখন বের হয়ে আসছে।”
And both of them shewed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines; and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves.
12 ১২ পরে সেই সৈন্য-ছাউনির লোকেরা যোনাথন ও তাঁর অস্ত্র বহনকারী লোকটিকে বলল, “আমাদের কাছে উঠে এস, আমরা তোমাদের কিছু দেখাব।” যোনাথন তাঁর অস্ত্র বহনকারীকে বললেন, “আমার পিছনে পিছনে উঠে এস, কারণ সদাপ্রভু ওদেরকে ইস্রায়েলীয়দের হাতে দিয়েছেন।”
And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armour-bearer and said, Come up to us, and we will shew you something. And Jonathan said to his armour-bearer, Come up after me; for Jehovah has delivered them into the hand of Israel.
13 ১৩ পরে যোনাথন হামাগুড়ি দিয়ে উঠে গেলেন এবং তাঁর অস্ত্র বহনকারী লোকটিও তাঁর পিছনে পিছনে উঠে গেল; তাতে সেই লোকেরা যোনাথনের সামনে মারা পড়তে লাগল এবং তাঁর অস্ত্র বহনকারী লোকটিও তাঁর পিছনে পিছনে তাদের মারতে লাগল।
And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armour-bearer after him; and they fell before Jonathan; and his armour-bearer slew after him.
14 ১৪ যোনাথন ও তাঁর অস্ত্র বহনকারী লোকটী আক্রমণের শুরুতেই এক বিঘে (অর্ধেক একর) জমির অর্ধেক হাল দেওয়া জমির মধ্যে প্রায় কুড়ি জন লোক মারা পড়ল।
And that first slaughter which Jonathan and his armour-bearer wrought was about twenty men, as it were on the half-furrow of an acre of land.
15 ১৫ শিবিরের মধ্যে, ক্ষেতে ও সমস্ত সৈন্যদের মধ্যে ভীষণ ভয় উপস্থিত হল; পাহারাদার ও বিনাশকারীর দলও ভয় পেল, ভূমিকম্প হল, আর এই ভাবে ঈশ্বরের কাছ থেকে মহাভয় উপস্থিত হল।
And there was trembling in the camp, in the field, and among all the people; the garrison, and the ravagers, they also trembled, and the earth quaked; for it was a trembling [from] God.
16 ১৬ তখন বিন্যামীনের গিবিয়াতে শৌলের যে পাহারাদার সৈন্যেরা ছিল তারা দেখতে পেল, দেখ, লোকের ভীড় ভেঙে গেল তারা চারদিকে ছড়িয়ে পড়ছে।
And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked, and behold, the multitude melted away, and they went on slaying one another.
17 ১৭ তখন শৌল তাঁর সঙ্গের লোকদের বললেন, “একবার লোক গুনে দেখ, কে আমাদের মধ্য থেকে চলে গেছে।” পরে তারা লোক গুনে দেখতে পেল, আর দেখ যোনাথন ও তাঁর অস্ত্র বহনকারী লোকটি সেখানে নেই।
Then said Saul to the people that were with him, Muster now, and see who is gone from us. And they mustered, and behold, Jonathan and his armour-bearer were not there.
18 ১৮ তখন শৌল অহিয়কে বললেন, “ঈশ্বরের সিন্দুকটি এই জায়গায় নিয়ে এস,” কারণ সেই দিন ঈশ্বরের সিন্দুক ইস্রায়েলীয়দের কাছেই ছিল।
And Saul said to Ahijah, Bring hither the ark of God. For the ark of God was at that time with the children of Israel.
19 ১৯ পরে যখন শৌল যাজকের সঙ্গে কথা বলছিলেন, তখন পলেষ্টীয়দের সৈন্যদের মধ্য গোলমাল বেড়েই চলল। তাতে শৌল যাজককে বললেন, “হাত সরিয়ে নাও।”
And it came to pass while Saul talked to the priest, that the noise which was in the camp of the Philistines went on and increased; and Saul said to the priest, Withdraw thy hand.
20 ২০ তারপর শৌল ও তাঁর সমস্ত সঙ্গীরা একত্র হয়ে যুদ্ধ করতে গেলেন; আর দেখ, প্রত্যেক জনের তরোয়াল তার বন্ধুর বিরুদ্ধে যাওয়াতে ভীষণ কোলাহল শোনা যাচ্ছিল।
And Saul and all the people that were with him were called together, and they came to the battle; and behold, every man's sword was against his fellow, a very great confusion.
21 ২১ আর যে সব ইব্রীয়েরা আগে পলেষ্টীয়দের পক্ষে ছিল, যারা চারিদিক থেকে তাদের সঙ্গে শিবিরে গিয়েছিল তারাও শৌল ও যোনাথনের সঙ্গী ইস্রায়েলীয়দের সঙ্গে যোগ দিল।
And there were Hebrews with the Philistines before that time, who had gone up with them into the camp round about; and they also [turned] to be with the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.
22 ২২ আর ইস্রায়েলের যে সব লোক ইফ্রয়িমের পাহাড়ী এলাকায় লুকিয়ে ছিল, তারাও পলেষ্টীয়দের পালানোর খবর পেয়ে যুদ্ধে যোগ দিল এবং তারা তাদের তাড়া করতে লাগল।
And all the men of Israel who had hid themselves in mount Ephraim heard that the Philistines fled, and they also followed hard after them in the battle.
23 ২৩ এই ভাবে সদাপ্রভু সেই দিন ইস্রায়েলীয়দের উদ্ধার করলেন এবং বৈৎ-আবন পার পর্যন্ত যুদ্ধ ছড়িয়ে পড়ল।
And Jehovah saved Israel that day; and the battle passed over beyond Beth-Aven.
24 ২৪ সেই দিন ইস্রায়েলের লোকেরা খুব কষ্টের মধ্যে ছিল, কারণ শৌল লোকদের এই দিব্যি করিয়ে নিয়েছিলেন যে, তিনি সন্ধ্যার আগে, আমি যে পর্যন্ত আমার শত্রুদের উপর প্রতিশোধ না নেওয়া পর্যন্ত, যে কেউ খাবার গ্রহণ করবে সে শাপগ্রস্ত হোক। এই জন্য লোকেদের মধ্য কেউই খাদ্য গ্রহণ করল না।
But the men of Israel were distressed that day. Now Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth food until evening, and [until] I am avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted food.
And all they of the land came to a wood; and there was honey on the ground.
26 ২৬ আর লোকেরা যখন বনে উপস্থিত হল, দেখ, মধু ঝরে পড়ছে, কিন্তু কেউ তা মুখে দিল না, কারণ তারা সেই শপথে ভয় পেয়েছিল।
And the people had come into the wood, and behold, the honey flowed; but no man put his hand to his mouth, for the people feared the oath.
27 ২৭ কিন্তু যোনাথনের বাবা লোকদেরকে যে শপথ করিয়েছিলেন, যোনাথন তা শোনেন নি, তাই তিনি তাঁর হাতের লাঠির আগাটা বাড়িয়ে মৌচাকে ঢুকালেন এবং মধু হাতে নিয়ে মুখে দিলেন; তাতে তাঁর চোখ সতেজ হল।
But Jonathan had not heard when his father adjured the people; and he put forth the end of his staff which was in his hand, and dipped it in the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth, and his eyes became bright.
28 ২৮ তখন লোকেদের মধ্য একজন বলল, “তোমার বাবা শপথের সঙ্গে একটি দৃঢ় আদেশ দিয়েছেন, ‘যে ব্যক্তি আজ খাবার গ্রহণ করবে সে শাপগ্রস্ত হোক,’ কিন্তু লোকেরা দুর্বল হয়ে পড়েছে।”
Then answered one of the people and said, Thy father strictly adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth food this day; and the people are faint.
29 ২৯ যোনাথন বললেন, “আমার বাবা তো লোকদের কষ্ট দিচ্ছেন, অনুরোধ করি, দেখ, এই মধু একটুখানি মুখে দেওয়াতে আমার চোখ সতেজ হল।
And Jonathan said, My father has troubled the land: see, I pray you, that mine eyes are bright, because I tasted a little of this honey.
30 ৩০ আজ যদি লোকেরা শত্রুদের কাছ থেকে লুটে নেওয়া খাবার থেকে যদি আজ লোকেরা খেতে পারত তাহলে আরো সতেজ হত। কারণ এখনও পলেষ্টীয়দের মধ্য মহাসংহার হয়নি।”
How much more, if the people had eaten freely to-day of the spoil of their enemies which they found? for would there not now have been a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?
31 ৩১ সেই দিন তারা মিক্মস থেকে অয়ালোন পর্যন্ত পলেষ্টীয়দের আঘাত করল; আর লোকেরা খুবই ক্লান্ত হয়ে পড়ল।
And they smote the Philistines that day from Michmash to Ajalon; and the people were very faint.
32 ৩২ পরে লোকেরা লুটের জিনিসের দিকে দৌড়িয়ে ভেড়া, গরু ও বাছুর ধরে মাটিতে ফেলে কেটে রক্ত শুদ্ধই খেতে লাগল।
And the people fell on the spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slaughtered them on the ground; and the people ate [them] with the blood.
33 ৩৩ তখন কেউ কেউ শৌলকে বলল, “দেখুন, লোকেরা রক্ত শুদ্ধ মাংস খেয়ে সদাপ্রভুর বিরুদ্ধে পাপ করছে।” তাতে তিনি বললেন, “তোমরা অবিশ্বস্ত হয়েছ; আজ আমার কাছে একটা বড় পাথর গড়িয়ে নিয়ে এস।”
And they told Saul, saying, Behold, the people sin against Jehovah, in that they eat with the blood. And he said, Ye have acted perversely: roll me now a great stone.
34 ৩৪ শৌল আরো বললেন, “তোমরা লোকদের মধ্যে চারিদিকে গিয়ে তাদেরকে বল, তোমরা প্রত্যেক জন নিজেদের গরু ও প্রত্যেকে নিজের নিজের ভেড়া আমার কাছে নিয়ে এস, আর এখানে মেরে খাও; রক্ত সমেত খেয়ে সদাপ্রভুর বিরুদ্ধে পাপ করো না।” সেই রাতে প্রত্যেকে যে যার গরু নিয়ে এসে সেখানে কাটল।
And Saul said, Disperse yourselves among the people, and say to them, Bring near to me every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and slaughter them here, and eat; and sin not against Jehovah in eating with the blood. And all the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and slaughtered [them] there.
35 ৩৫ আর শৌল সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশ্যে একটা যজ্ঞবেদী তৈরী করলেন, তা সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশ্যে তাঁর তৈরী প্রথম বেদী।
And Saul built an altar to Jehovah: this was the first altar he built to Jehovah.
36 ৩৬ পরে শৌল বললেন, “চল, আমরা রাতে পলেষ্টীয়দের তাড়া করি এবং সকাল পর্যন্ত তাদের জিনিসপত্র লুট করি এবং তাদের একজনকেও বাঁচিয়ে রাখব না।” তারা বলল, “আপনি যা ভাল মনে করেন তাই করুন।” পরে যাজক বললেন, “এস, আমরা এখানে ঈশ্বরের কাছে উপস্থিত হই।”
And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and plunder them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever is good in thy sight. Then said the priest, Let us come near hither to God.
37 ৩৭ তাতে শৌল ঈশ্বরকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আমি কি পলেষ্টীয়দের তাড়া করব? তুমি কি তাদের ইস্রায়েলীয়দের হাতে তুলে দেবে?” কিন্তু সেই দিন তিনি তাঁকে উত্তর দিলেন না।
And Saul inquired of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? wilt thou give them into the hand of Israel? But he did not answer him that day.
38 ৩৮ সেইজন্য শৌল বললেন, “সৈন্যদলের সমস্ত নেতারা, তোমরা কাছে এস এবং আজকের এই পাপ কি করে হল, জানো ও তার খোঁজ করে দেখ।
And Saul said, Draw ye near hither, all the heads of the people; and know and see wherein this sin has been this day.
39 ৩৯ ইস্রায়েলের উদ্ধারকর্তা জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্য, এমনকি আমার ছেলে যোনাথনও যদি তা করে থাকে তবে নিশ্চয়ই তাকেও মরতে হবে।” কিন্তু সমস্ত লোকের মধ্য কেউই তাঁকে উত্তর দিল না।
For, [as] Jehovah liveth, who has saved Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall certainly die. And no one answered him among all the people.
40 ৪০ পরে তিনি সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলকে বললেন, “তোমরা এক দিকে থাক, আমি ও আমার ছেলে যোনাথন অন্য দিকে থাকি।” তাতে লোকেরা শৌলকে বলল, “আপনি যা ভাল মনে করেন তাই করুন।”
Then said he to all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said to Saul, Do what is good in thy sight.
41 ৪১ পরে শৌল সদাপ্রভুকে বললেন, “হে ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সঠিক কি তা দেখিয়ে দিন,” তখন যোনাথন ও শৌল ধরা পড়লেন, কিন্তু লোকেরা মুক্ত হল।
And Saul said to Jehovah the God of Israel, Give a perfect [testimony]! And Jonathan and Saul were taken, and the people escaped.
And Saul said, Cast [lots] between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.
43 ৪৩ তখন শৌল যোনাথনকে বললেন, “বল দেখি, তুমি কি করেছ?” যোনাথন তাঁকে বললেন, “আমার লাঠির আগা দিয়ে আমি একটুখানি মধু নিয়ে খেয়েছি, দেখুন, তাই আমাকে মরতে হবে।”
And Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him and said, With the end of the staff which is in my hand I tasted a little honey, [and] behold, I must die!
And Saul said, God do so [to me] and more also; thou shalt certainly die, Jonathan.
45 ৪৫ কিন্তু লোকেরা শৌলকে বলল, “ইস্রায়েলের মধ্য যিনি এই মহান উদ্ধার করেছেন, সেই যোনাথন কি মারা যাবেন? এমন না হোক; জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্য, তাঁর মাথার একটা চুলও মাটিতে পড়বে না, কারণ তিনি আজ ঈশ্বরের সঙ্গে কাজ করেছেন।” এই ভাবে লোকেরা যোনাথনকে রক্ষা করল, তাঁর মৃত্যু হল না।
And the people said to Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who has wrought this great salvation in Israel? Far be it! [as] Jehovah liveth, there shall not a hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has wrought with God this day. So the people delivered Jonathan, that he died not.
And Saul went up from following the Philistines; and the Philistines went to their own place.
47 ৪৭ ইস্রায়েলীয়দের উপর রাজা হবার পর শৌল সমস্ত দিকে সমস্ত শত্রুদের সঙ্গে, মোয়াবের, অম্মোন সন্তানদের, ইদোমের, সোবার রাজাদের ও পলেষ্টীয়দের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করলেন; তিনি যেদিকে যেতেন সেদিকেই ভীষণ ক্ষতি করতেন।
And Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies round about, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines; and whithersoever he turned himself, he discomfited [them].
48 ৪৮ তিনি বীরের মত কাজ করতেন, অমালেকীয়দের আঘাত করলেন এবং লুটকারীদের হাত থেকে ইস্রায়েলকে রক্ষা করলেন।
And he did valiantly, and smote the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of their spoilers.
49 ৪৯ যোনাথন, যিশ্বি ও মল্কীশূয় নামে শৌলের তিনজন ছেলে ছিল; তাঁর বড় মেয়ের নাম ছিল মেরব ও ছোট মেয়ের নাম ছিল মীখল।
And the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Jishvi, and Malchi-shua. And the names of his two daughters: the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the younger Michal.
50 ৫০ আর শৌলের স্ত্রীর নাম ছিল অহীনোয়ম, তিনি অহীমাসের মেয়ে; এবং তাঁর সেনাপতির নাম অব্নের; তিনি শৌলের কাকা নেরের ছেলে।
And the name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam, the daughter of Ahimaaz; and the name of the captain of his host was Abner, the son of Ner, Saul's uncle.
And Kish the father of Saul, and Ner the father of Abner were sons of Abiel.
52 ৫২ শৌলের রাজত্বকালে পলেষ্টীয়দের সঙ্গে ভীষণ যুদ্ধ হয়েছিল। আর শৌল কোন শক্তিশালী লোক বা কোন বীর পুরুষকে দেখলেই গ্রহণ করতেন।
And there was sore war against the Philistines all the days of Saul; and when Saul saw any mighty man, or any valiant man, he took him to himself.
