And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for al Israel were come to Sheche, to make him king
2 ২ তখন নবাটের ছেলে যারবিয়াম মিশর দেশে ছিলেন, কারণ তিনি রাজা শলোমনের কাছ থেকে পালিয়ে সেখানে গিয়েছিলেন। মিসরে থাকার দিন তিনি যখন রহবিয়ামের রাজা হওয়ার খবর শুনলেন তিনি সেখান থেকে ফিরে এলেন।
And whe Ieroboam ye sonne of Nebat heard of it (who was yet in Egypt, whither Ieroboam had fled from king Salomon, and dwelt in Egypt)
3 ৩ লোকেরা যারবিয়ামকে ডেকে পাঠালেন এবং যারবিয়াম সব ইস্রায়েলীয়দের সঙ্গে রহবিয়ামের কাছে গিয়ে বললেন,
Then they sent and called him: and Ieroboam and all the Congregation of Israel came, and spake vnto Rehoboam, saying,
4 ৪ “আপনার বাবা আমাদের উপর একটা ভারী যোঁয়াল চাপিয়ে দিয়েছেন, কিন্তু এখন আপনি আমাদের উপর চাপানো সেই কঠিন পরিশ্রম কমিয়ে ভারী যোঁয়ালটা হালকা করে দিন; তাহলে আমরা আপনার সেবা করব।”
Thy father made our yoke grieuous: now therefore make thou the grieuous seruitude of thy father, and his sore yoke which he put vpon vs, lighter, and we will serue thee.
And he said vnto them, Depart yet for three dayes, then come againe to me. And the people departed.
6 ৬ যে সব বৃদ্ধ নেতারা তাঁর বাবা শলোমনের জীবনকালে তাঁর সেবা করতেন রহবিয়াম তাঁদের সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করবার জন্য বললেন, “এই লোকদের উত্তর দেবার জন্য আপনারা আমাকে কি পরামর্শ দেন?”
And King Rehoboam tooke counsell with the olde men that had stande before Salomon his father, while he yet liued, and sayde, What counsell giue ye, that I may make an answere to this people?
7 ৭ উত্তরে তাঁরা তাঁকে বললেন, “আজকে যদি আপনি এই সব লোকদের সেবাকারী হয়ে তাদের সেবা করেন এবং তাদের অনুরোধ রক্ষা করেন তবে তারা সব দিন আপনার দাস হয়ে থাকবে।”
And they spake vnto him, saying, If thou be a seruant vnto this people this day, and serue them, and answere them, and speake kinde wordes to them, they will be thy seruants for euer.
8 ৮ কিন্তু রহবিয়াম বৃদ্ধ নেতাদের উপদেশ অগ্রাহ্য করে সেই সব যুবকদের সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করলেন যারা তাঁর সঙ্গে বড় হয়েছিল এবং তাঁর সেবা করত।
But he forsooke the counsell that the olde men had giuen him, and asked counsell of the yong men that had bene brought vp with him, and waited on him.
9 ৯ তিনি তাদের বললেন, “লোকেরা বলছে, ‘আপনার বাবা যে ভারী যোঁয়াল আমাদের উপর চাপিয়ে দিয়েছেন তা হালকা করুন।’ এই ব্যাপারে তোমাদের পরামর্শ কি? আমরা তাদের কি উত্তর দেব?”
And he said vnto them, What counsell giue ye, that we may answere this people, which haue spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke, which thy father did put vpon vs, lighter?
10 ১০ উত্তরে সেই যুবকেরা বলল, “যে সব লোকেরা আপনার বাবার চাপিয়ে দেওয়া ভারী যোঁয়াল হালকা করে দেবার কথা বলেছে তাদের আপনি বলুন যে, আপনার বাবার কোমরের চেয়েও আপনার কোড়ে আঙ্গুলটা মোটা।
Then the yong men that were brought vp with him, spake vnto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say vnto this people, that haue spoken vnto thee, and said, Thy father hath made our yoke heauie, but make thou it lighter vnto vs: euen thus shalt thou say vnto them, My least part shalbe bigger then my fathers loynes.
11 ১১ এখন আমার বাবা তোমাদের উপর যে ভারী যোঁয়াল চাপিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন তা আমি আরও ভারী করব। আমার বাবা তোমাদের মেরেছিলেন চাবুক দিয়ে কিন্তু আমি তোমাদের মারব কাঁকড়া বিছা দিয়ে।”
Now where as my father did burden you with a grieuous yoke, I will yet make your yoke heauier: my father hath chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.
12 ১২ পরে তৃতীয় দিনের আমার কাছে ফিরে এস, রাজার বলা এই কথা অনুসারে যারবিয়াম এবং সব লোক রহবিয়ামের কাছে তৃতীয় দিনের এল।
Then Ieroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me againe ye thirde day.
And the king answered the people sharpely, and left the old mens counsell that they gaue him,
14 ১৪ তিনি সেই যুবকদের পরামর্শ মত বললেন, “আমার বাবা তোমাদের যোঁয়াল ভারী করেছিলেন, আমি তা আরও ভারী করব। আমার বাবা চাবুক দিয়ে তোমাদের মেরেছিলেন, আমি তোমাদের কাঁকড়া বিছা দিয়ে শাস্তি দেব।”
And spake to them after the counsell of the yong men, saying, My father made your yoke grieuous, and I will make your yoke more grieuous: my father hath chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.
15 ১৫ এই ভাবে রাজা লোকদের কথায় কান দিলেন না। কারণ শীলোনীয় অহিয়ের মধ্য দিয়ে সদাপ্রভু নবাটের ছেলে যারবিয়ামকে যে কথা বলেছিলেন তা পূর্ণ করবার জন্য সদাপ্রভু থেকেই এই ঘটনাটা ঘটল।
And the King hearkened not vnto the people: for it was the ordinance of the Lord, that he might perfourme his saying, which the Lord had spoken by Ahiiah the Shilonite vnto Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat.
16 ১৬ ইস্রায়েলীয়েরা যখন বুঝল যে, রাজা তাদের কথা শুনবেন না তখন তারা রাজাকে বলল, “দায়ূদের উপর আমাদের কোনো দাবি নেই। যিশয়ের ছেলের উপর আমাদের কোনো অধিকার নেই। হে ইস্রায়েল, তোমরা নিজের তাঁবুতে ফিরে যাও। হে দায়ূদ, এখন তোমার নিজের গোষ্ঠী তুমি নিজেই দেখ।” কাজেই ইস্রায়েলীয়েরা যে যার বাড়িতে ফিরে গেল।
So when all Israel sawe that the King regarded them not, the people answered the King thus, saying, What portion haue we in Dauid? we haue none inheritance in the sonne of Ishai. To your tents, O Israel: nowe see to thine owne house, Dauid. So Israel departed vnto their tents.
17 ১৭ তবে যিহূদা গোষ্ঠীর গ্রাম ও শহরগুলোতে যে সব ইস্রায়েলীয় বাস করত রহবিয়াম তাদের উপরে রাজত্ব করতে থাকলেন।
Howbeit ouer the children of Israel, which dwelt in the cities of Iudah, did Rehoboam reigne still.
18 ১৮ যাদের কাজ করতে বাধ্য করা হত তাদের ভার যার উপরে ছিল সেই অদোরামকে রাজা রহবিয়াম ইস্রায়েলীয়দের কাছে পাঠিয়ে দিলেন, কিন্তু তারা তাকে পাথর ছুঁড়ে মেরে ফেলল। তখন রাজা রহবিয়াম তাড়াতাড়ি তাঁর রথে উঠে যিরূশালেমে পালিয়ে গেলেন।
Nowe the King Rehoboam sent Adoram the receiuer of the tribute, and all Israel stoned him to death: then King Rehoboam made speede to get him vp to his charet, to flee to Ierusalem.
And Israel rebelled against the house of Dauid vnto this day.
20 ২০ যারবিয়ামের ফিরে আসার খবর শুনে ইস্রায়েলীয়েরা লোক পাঠিয়ে তাঁকে তাদের সভায় ডেকে আনল এবং সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলীয়দের উপর তারা তাঁকেই রাজা করল। কেবল যিহূদা বংশের লোকেরা ছাড়া আর কোনো বংশ দায়ূদের বংশের প্রতি বিশ্বস্ত থাকল না।
And when all Israel had heard that Ieroboam was come againe, they sent and called him vnto the assemblie, and made him King ouer all Israel: none followed the house of Dauid, but the tribe of Iudah onely.
21 ২১ যিরূশালেমে পৌঁছে রহবিয়াম যিহূদা ও বিন্যামীন গোষ্ঠীর সমস্ত লোককে যুদ্ধের জন্য জড়ো করলেন। তাতে এক লক্ষ আশি হাজার সৈন্য হল। এটা করা হল যাতে ইস্রায়েলীয়দের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করে রাজ্যটা আবার শলোমনের ছেলে রহবিয়ামের হাতে নিয়ে আসা যায়।
And when Rehoboam was come to Ierusalem, he gathered all the house of Iudah with the tribe of Beniamin an hundreth and foure score thousand of chosen men (which were good warriours) to fight against the house of Israel, and to bring the kingdome againe to Rehoboam the sonne of Salomon.
But the worde of God came vnto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
23 ২৩ তুমি যিহূদার রাজা শলোমনের ছেলে রহবিয়ামকে, যিহূদা ও বিন্যামীনের সমস্ত বংশকে এবং বাকি সব লোকদের বল যে,
Speake vnto Rehoboam the sonne of Salomon King of Iudah, and vnto all the house of Iudah and Beniamin, and the remnant of the people, saying,
24 ২৪ “সদাপ্রভু বলেন, তোমরা যেও না, তোমাদের ভাইদের সাথে, ইস্রায়েলীয়দের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ কর না; প্রত্যেকজন নিজের নিজের ঘরে ফিরে যাও, কারণ এই ঘটনা আমার মাধ্যমে হয়েছে।” অতএব তারা সদাপ্রভুর বাক্য মেনে তাঁর আদেশ অনুসারে ফিরে গেল।
Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go vp, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: returne euery man to his house: for this thing is done by me. They obeyed therefore the worde of the Lord and returned, and departed, according to the worde of the Lord.
25 ২৫ পরে যারবিয়াম ইফ্রয়িমের পাহাড়ী এলাকার শিখিম গড়ে নিয়ে সেখানে বাস করতে লাগলেন। তিনি সেখান থেকে গিয়ে পনূয়েলও দুর্গের মত করে গড়ে নিলেন।
Then Ieroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein, and went from thence, and built Penuel.
And Ieroboam thought in his heart, Nowe shall the kingdome returne to the house of Dauid.
27 ২৭ লোকেরা যদি যিরূশালেমে সদাপ্রভুর উপাসনা ঘরে বলিদান করার জন্য যায় তবে আবার তারা তাদের প্রভু যিহূদার রাজা রহবিয়ামের অধীনতা মেনে নেবে। তারা আমাকে মেরে ফেলে রাজা রহবিয়ামের কাছে ফিরে যাবে।”
If this people goe vp and doe sacrifice in the house of the Lord at Ierusalem, then shall the heart of this people turne againe vnto their lorde, euen to Rehoboam King of Iudah: so shall they kill me and goe againe to Rehoboam King of Iudah.
28 ২৮ রাজা যারবিয়াম তখন পরামর্শ করে দুটো সোনার বাছুর তৈরী করালেন। তারপর তিনি লোকদের বললেন, “যিরূশালেমে যাওয়া তোমাদের জন্য খুব কষ্টের ব্যাপার। হে ইস্রায়েল, এঁরাই তোমাদের দেবতা, এঁরাই মিশর থেকে তোমাদের বের করে এনেছেন।”
Whereupon the King tooke counsell, and made two calues of golde, and saide vnto them, It is too much for you to goe vp to Ierusalem: beholde, O Israel, thy gods, which brought thee vp out of the lande of Egypt.
And he set the one in Beth-el, and the other set he in Dan.
And this thing turned to sinne: for the people went (because of the one) euen to Dan.
31 ৩১ যারবিয়াম উঁচু স্থানগুলোতে মন্দির তৈরী করলেন এবং এমন সব লোকদের মধ্য থেকে যাজক নিযুক্ত করলেন যারা লেবির বংশের লোক ছিল না।
Also he made an house of hie places, and made Priestes of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sonnes of Leui.
32 ৩২ যিহূদা এলাকার মধ্যে যে পর্ব হত সেই পর্বের মত অষ্টম মাসের পনের দিনের দিন তিনি বৈথেলেও একটা পর্বের ব্যবস্থা করলেন এবং নিজের তৈরী বাছুরের উদ্দেশ্যে বেদির উপর পশু উৎসর্গ করলেন। তিনি বৈথেলে পূজার উঁচু স্থানগুলোতে তাঁর তৈরী মন্দিরে যাজকও নিযুক্ত করলেন।
And Ieroboam made a feast the fifteenth day of the eight moneth, like vnto the feast that is in Iudah, and offred on the altar. So did he in Beth-el and offered vnto the calues that he had made: and he placed in Beth-el the Priestes of the hie places, which he had made.
33 ৩৩ অষ্টম মাসের পনেরো দিনের র দিন বৈথেলে তাঁর তৈরী বেদীতে তিনি পশু উৎসর্গ করলেন। দিন টা তাঁর নিজেরই বেছে নেওয়া। এই ভাবে তিনি ইস্রায়েলীয়দের জন্য পর্বের ব্যবস্থা করলেন এবং ধূপ জ্বালাবার জন্য বেদীতে উঠলেন।
And he offered vpon the altar, which he had made in Beth-el, the fifteenth day of the eight moneth, (euen in the moneth which he had forged of his owne heart) and made a solemne feast vnto the children of Israel: and he went vp to the altar, to burne incense.
