ՂՈԻԿԱՍ 1
1 Քանի շատեր ձեռնարկեցին կարգի դնել մեր մէջ հաստատ գիտցուած բաներուն պատմութիւնը,
Forasmuch as many have undertaken to compose a narrative of those things, which have been accomplished amongst us,
2 ինչպէս սկիզբէն աւանդեցին մեզի ականատես վկաները եւ խօսքին սպասաւորները,
as they, who were from the beginning, eye-witnesses, and afterwards ministers of the word, delivered them to us;
3 ինծի՛ ալ՝ որ սկիզբէն հետեւած էի այդ բոլոր բաներուն՝ յարմար թուեցաւ կարգով գրել քեզի, պատուակա՛ն Թէոփիլոս,
I have also determined, having exactly traced everything from the first, to write a particular account for you, most excellent Theophilus;
4 որպէսզի գիտնաս ստոյգը այն բաներուն մասին՝ որոնց համաձայն կրթուեցար:
that you might know the certainty of those matters wherein you have been instructed.
5 Հրէաստանի Հերովդէս թագաւորին օրերը՝ Աբիայի դասէն Զաքարիա անունով քահանայ մը կար, որուն կինը Ահարոնի աղջիկներէն էր, անունը՝ Եղիսաբէթ:
In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abijah; and his wife, named Elizabeth, was of the daughters of Aaron.
6 Երկուքն ալ Աստուծոյ առջեւ արդար էին, անմեղադրելի կերպով ընթանալով Տէրոջ բոլոր պատուիրաններուն եւ կանոններուն համաձայն:
They were both righteous before God, blameless observers of all the Lord's commandments and ordinances.
7 Զաւակ չունէին, որովհետեւ Եղիսաբէթ ամուլ էր, ու երկուքն ալ յառաջացած տարիք ունէին:
And they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were advanced in years.
8 Մինչ ան՝ իր դասին օրերը հասնելուն համար՝ քահանայութիւն կը կատարէր Աստուծոյ առջեւ,
Now when he came to officiate as priest in the order of his course,
9 քահանայութեան սովորութեան համաձայն՝ իրեն վիճակուեցաւ Տէրոջ տաճարը մտնել եւ խունկ ծխել:
it fell to him by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to offer incense in the sanctuary.
10 Ժողովուրդին ամբողջ բազմութիւնը դուրսը աղօթքի կայնած էր՝ խունկի ժամուն:
And while the incense was burning, the whole congregation were praying without.
11 Այդ ատեն Տէրոջ հրեշտակը երեւցաւ անոր, ու կայնեցաւ խունկի զոհասեղանին աջ կողմը:
Then there appeared to him an angel of the Lord, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
12 Երբ Զաքարիա տեսաւ՝ վրդովեցաւ, եւ վախը համակեց զինք՝՝:
And Zacharias was discomposed at the sight, and in great terror.
13 Հրեշտակը ըսաւ անոր. «Մի՛ վախնար, Զաքարիա՛, որովհետեւ քու աղերսանքդ ընդունուեցաւ: Կինդ՝ Եղիսաբէթ որդի մը պիտի ծնանի քեզի, եւ անոր անունը Յովհաննէս պիտի կոչես:
But the angel said to him, Fear not, Zacharias; for your prayer is heard, and Elizabeth your wife shall bear you a son, whom you shall name John.
14 Քեզի ուրախութիւն ու ցնծութիւն պիտի ըլլայ, եւ շատեր պիտի ուրախանան անոր ծնունդին համար.
He shall be to you matter of joy and transport; and many shall rejoice because of his birth.
15 որովհետեւ Տէրոջ առջեւ մեծ պիտի ըլլայ: Ո՛չ գինի պիտի խմէ, ո՛չ ալ օղի, ու դեռ իր մօր որովայնէն Սուրբ Հոգիով պիտի լեցուի,
For he shall be great before the Lord; he shall not drink wine nor any fermented liquor; but he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.
16 եւ Իսրայէլի որդիներէն շատերը պիտի դարձնէ Տէրոջ՝ իրենց Աստուծոյն:
And many of the sons of Israel he shall bring back to the Lord their God.
17 Ինք պիտի գայ անոր առջեւէն՝ Եղիայի հոգիով ու զօրութեամբ, հայրերուն սիրտը վերադարձնելու դէպի զաւակները, եւ անհնազանդները՝ արդարներուն իմաստութեան, որպէսզի պատրաստէ Տէրոջ բարեյօժար ժողովուրդ մը»:
Moreover, he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to reconcile fathers to their children, and by the wisdom of the righteous, to render the disobedient a people well disposed for the Lord.
18 Զաքարիա ըսաւ հրեշտակին. «Ի՞նչպէս գիտնամ ատիկա, որովհետեւ ես ծեր եմ, ու կինս յառաջացած տարիք ունի»:
And Zacharias said to the angel, How shall I know this: for I am old man, and my wife is advanced in years?
19 Հրեշտակը պատասխանեց անոր. «Ես Գաբրիէլն եմ՝ որ կը կայնիմ Աստուծոյ առջեւ, ու ղրկուեցայ քեզի՝ խօսելու եւ այս բաները քեզի աւետելու:
The angel answering, said to him, I am Gabriel, who attend in the presence of God, and am sent to tell you this joyful news.
20 Ահա՛ դուն համր պիտի ըլլաս, ու պիտի չկարենաս խօսիլ մինչեւ այն օրը՝ երբ այս բաները ըլլան, քանի որ չհաւատացիր իմ խօսքերուս՝ որոնք պիտի իրագործուին իրենց ատենին»:
But know that you shall be dumb, and shall not recover your speech, till the day when these things happen, because you have not believed my words, which shall be fulfilled in due time.
21 Ժողովուրդը կը սպասէր Զաքարիայի, եւ կը զարմանային որ ան կ՚ուշանար տաճարին մէջ:
Meanwhile the people waited for Zacharias, and wondered that he staid so long in the sanctuary.
22 Երբ դուրս ելաւ՝ չէր կրնար խօսիլ անոնց հետ. ուստի ըմբռնեցին թէ տեսիլք մը տեսած է տաճարին մէջ: Եւ ինք նշան կ՚ընէր անոնց, ու համր կը մնար:
But when he came out, he could not speak to them; and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the sanctuary; for he made them understand by signs, and remained speechless.
23 Երբ իր պաշտօնին օրերը լրացան՝ իր տունը գնաց:
And when his days of officiating were expired, he returned home.
24 Այդ օրերէն ետք անոր կինը՝ Եղիսաբէթ յղացաւ, եւ հինգ ամիս կը պահուըտէր ու կ՚ըսէր.
Soon after, Elizabeth his wife conceived, and lived in retirement five months, and said,
25 «Ա՛յսպէս ըրաւ ինծի Տէրը՝ այս օրերուս, որ իմ վրաս նայեցաւ՝ նախատինքս մարդոց մէջէն վերցնելու համար»:
The Lord has done this for me, purposing now to deliver me from the reproach I lay under among men.
26 Վեցերորդ ամսուան մէջ՝ Գաբրիէլ հրեշտակը Աստուծմէ ղրկուեցաւ Գալիլեայի մէկ քաղաքը, որուն անունը Նազարէթ էր,
Now, in the sixth month, God sent Gabriel his angel, to Nazareth, a city of Galilee;
27 կոյսի մը՝ մարդու մը նշանուած, որուն անունը Յովսէփ էր, Դաւիթի տունէն. այդ կոյսին անունը Մարիամ էր:
to a virgin betrothed to a man called Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary.
28 Հրեշտակը անոր քով մտնելով՝ ըսաւ. «Ողջո՜յն, շնորհընկալ կոյս, Տէրը քեզի հետ է: Դուն կիներուն մէջ օրհնեա՜լ ես»:
When the angel entered, he said to her, Hail, favorite of heaven! the Lord be with you, happiest of women!
29 Տեսնելով զայն՝ շփոթեցաւ անոր խօսքէն, եւ ինքնիրեն կը մտածէր թէ ի՛նչ տեսակ բարեւ էր ատիկա:
At his appearance and words, she was perplexed, and revolved in her mind what this salutation could mean.
30 Հրեշտակը ըսաւ անոր. «Մի՛ վախնար, Մարիա՛մ, որովհետեւ շնորհք գտար Աստուծոյ քով:
And the angel said to her, Fear not, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
31 Ահա՛ պիտի յղանաս որովայնիդ մէջ ու որդի մը պիտի ծնանիս, եւ անոր անունը Յիսուս պիտի կոչես:
And behold, you shall conceive and bear a son, whom you shall name Jesus.
32 Ան մեծ պիտի ըլլայ ու Ամենաբարձրին Որդին պիտի կոչուի: Տէր Աստուած անոր պիտի տայ իր հօր՝ Դաւիթի գահը,
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest. And the Lord God will give him the throne of David his Father.
33 եւ Յակոբի տան վրայ յաւիտեան պիտի թագաւորէ: Անոր թագաւորութիւնը վախճան պիտի չունենայ»: (aiōn g165)
And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever: his reign shall never end. (aiōn g165)
34 Մարիամ ըսաւ հրեշտակին. «Ի՞նչպէս պիտի ըլլայ այդ բանը, քանի որ ես այր մարդ չեմ գիտեր»:
Then said Mary to the angel, How shall this be, since I have no intercourse with man?
35 Հրեշտակը պատասխանեց անոր. «Սուրբ Հոգին պիտի գայ վրադ, ու Ամենաբարձրին զօրութիւնը հովանի պիտի ըլլայ քեզի. ուստի այն սուրբը որ քեզմէ պիտի ծնի՝ Աստուծոյ Որդի պիտի կոչուի:
The angel answering, said to her, The Holy Spirit will descend upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore the holy progeny shall be called the Son of God.
36 Ահա՛ քու ազգականդ՝ Եղիսաբէթ, ի՛նք ալ՝ իր ծերութեան ատեն՝ որդիով մը յղի է. եւ ասիկա վեցերորդ ամիսն է անոր՝ որ ամուլ կոչուած էր.
And lo! your cousin Elizabeth also has conceived, a son in her old age; and she who is called barren, is now in her sixth month;
37 որովհետեւ ոչինչ անկարելի է Աստուծոյ»:
for nothing is impossible with God.
38 Մարիամ ըսաւ. «Ահա՛ ես Տէրոջ աղախինն եմ, քու խօսքիդ համաձայն թող ըլլայ ինծի»: Ու հրեշտակը գնաց անոր քովէն:
And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord. Be it to me according to your word. Then the angel departed.
39 Այդ օրերը Մարիամ կանգնեցաւ, փութալով գնաց լեռնակողմը՝ Յուդայի մէկ քաղաքը,
In those days Mary set out, and traveled expeditiously into the hill country; to a city of Judah;
40 մտաւ Զաքարիայի տունը եւ բարեւեց Եղիսաբէթը:
where having entered the house of Zacharias, she saluted Elizabeth.
41 Երբ Եղիսաբէթ լսեց Մարիամի բարեւը, երախան խայտաց անոր որովայնին մէջ. իսկ Եղիսաբէթ լեցուեցաւ Սուրբ Հոգիով,
As soon as Elizabeth heard Mary's salutation, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit,
42 ու բարձրաձայն գոչելով ըսաւ. «Դուն օրհնեա՜լ ես կիներուն մէջ, եւ օրհնեա՜լ է որովայնիդ պտուղը:
and cried with a loud voice, You are the most blessed of women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
43 Այս ի՞նչպէս եղաւ, որ իմ Տէրոջս մայրը եկաւ ինծի.
But how have I deserved this honor, to be visited by the mother of my Lord!
44 որովհետեւ ահա՛ երբ քու բարեւիդ ձայնը հասաւ ականջիս, երախան ցնծութենէն խայտաց որովայնիս մէջ:
for know, that as soon as the sound of your salutation reached my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
45 Երանի՜ անոր՝ որ հաւատացած է, որովհետեւ՝՝ պիտի կատարուին այն բաները՝ որոնք Տէրոջմէն ըսուեցան իրեն»:
And happy is she who believed that the things which the Lord has promised her, shall be performed.
46 Մարիամ ըսաւ. «Իմ անձս կը մեծարէ Տէրը,
Then Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 եւ իմ հոգիս ցնծաց իմ Փրկիչ Աստուծմովս,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour;
48 քանի որ նայեցաւ իր աղախինին նուաստութեան. արդարեւ ահա՛ ասկէ ետք՝ բոլոր սերունդները երանելի պիտի կոչեն զիս,
because he has not disdained the low condition of his handmaid; for henceforth, all posterity will pronounce me happy.
49 որովհետեւ Հզօրը մեծամեծ բաներ ըրաւ ինծի: Անոր անունը սուրբ է,
For the Almighty, whose name is venerable, has done wonders for me.
50 եւ անոր ողորմութիւնը իրմէ վախցողներուն վրայ է՝ սերունդէ սերունդ:
His mercy on them who fear him, extends to generations of generations.
51 Իր բազուկով զօրութիւն ցոյց տուաւ, ցրուեց ամբարտաւանները իրենց սիրտին երեւակայութեամբ:
He displays the strength of his arm, and dispels the vain imaginations of the proud.
52 Զօրաւորները իջեցուց իրենց գահերէն, ու բարձրացուց նուաստները:
He pulls down potentates from their thrones, and exalts the lowly.
53 Անօթիները լիացուց բարիքներով, եւ պարապ ճամբեց հարուստները:
The needy he loads with benefits; but the rich he spoils of everything.
54 Օգնութեան հասաւ իր Իսրայէլ ծառային, յիշելով իր ողորմութիւնը
He supports Israel his servant, ever inclined to mercy,
(as he promised to our fathers) toward Abraham and his race. (aiōn g165)
56 Մարիամ անոր քով մնաց՝ գրեթէ երեք ամիս, ապա վերադարձաւ իր տունը:
And Mary, after staying with Elizabeth about three months, returned home.
57 Եղիսաբէթի ծնանելու ժամանակը լրացաւ, ու որդի մը ծնաւ:
When the time for Elizabeth's delivery was come, she brought forth a son;
58 Երբ լսեցին անոնք՝ որ կը բնակէին անոր շուրջը, նաեւ անոր ազգականները, թէ Տէրը մեծարած էր զայն իր ողորմութեամբ, անոր հետ ուրախացան:
and her neighbors and relations who heard that the Lord had shown her great kindness, rejoiced with her.
59 Ութերորդ օրը եկան մանուկը թլփատելու, եւ Զաքարիա կը կոչէին զայն՝ իր հօր անունով:
And, on the eighth day, when they came to the circumcision of the child, they would have called him by his father's name, Zacharias.
60 Իսկ անոր մայրը ըսաւ. «Ո՛չ, այլ՝ Յովհաննէս պիտի կոչուի»:
And his mother interposed, saying, No; but he shall be called John.
61 Իրեն ըսին. «Քու ազգականներուդ մէջ չկայ մէկը, որ այս անունով կոչուի»:
They said to her, There is none of your kindred of that name.
62 Նշան ըրին անոր հօր թէ ի՛նչ անունով կ՚ուզէ որ ան կոչուի:
They, therefore, asked his father by signs, how he would have him called.
63 Ինք ալ տախտակ մը ուզեց ու գրեց. «Յովհաննէս է անոր անունը»: Բոլորն ալ զարմացան:
He, having demanded a table-book, wrote upon it, His name is John, which surprised them all.
64 Անմի՛ջապէս բացուեցաւ իր բերանը, նաեւ՝ լեզուն, ու խօսեցաւ եւ օրհնեց Աստուած:
And his mouth was opened directly, and his tongue loosed. And he spoke, praising God.
65 Վախը համակեց բոլոր անոնց շուրջը բնակողները, եւ այս բոլոր բաները կը պատմուէին Հրէաստանի ամբողջ լեռնակողմը:
Now all in the neighborhood were struck with awe; and the fame of these things spread throughout all the hill country of Judea.
66 Բոլոր լսողները անոնց մասին կը մտածէին՝՝ ու կ՚ըսէին. «Արդեօք ի՞նչ պիտի ըլլայ այս մանուկը»: Եւ Տէրոջ ձեռքը անոր հետ էր:
And all who heard these things, pondering them in their hearts, said, What will this child hereafter be? And the hand of the Lord was with him.
67 Անոր հայրը՝ Զաքարիա, Սուրբ Հոգիով լեցուած՝ մարգարէացաւ ու ըսաւ.
Then Zacharias, his father, being filled with the Holy Spirit, prophesied, saying,
68 «Օրհնեա՜լ ըլլայ Տէրը, Իսրայէլի Աստուածը, որ այցելեց իր ժողովուրդին եւ ազատագրեց զայն:
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has visited and redeemed his people;
69 Մեզի փրկութեան եղջիւր մը հանեց իր Դաւիթ ծառային տունէն,
and has raised a Prince for our deliverance in the house of David his servant;
70 (ինչպէս խօսեցաւ սուրբերուն բերանով, որոնք դարերու սկիզբէն ի վեր անոր մարգարէներն էին, ) (aiōn g165)
(as anciently he promised by his holy prophets) (aiōn g165)
71 փրկութիւն տալու մեր թշնամիներէն ու բոլոր մեզ ատողներուն ձեռքէն,
for our deliverance from our enemies, and from the hands of all who hate us;
72 իրագործելու մեր հայրերուն խոստացած ողորմութիւնը եւ յիշելու իր սուրբ ուխտը,
in kindness to our forefathers, and remembrance of his holy institution;
73 (այն երդումը որ մեր հօր՝ Աբրահամի ըրաւ, ) որպէսզի մեզի շնորհէ՝
the oath which he swore to our father Abraham,
74 մեր թշնամիներուն ձեռքէն ազատելով՝ առանց վախի պաշտել զինք,
to grant to us, that being rescued out of the hands of our enemies, we might serve him boldly,
75 սրբութեամբ եւ արդարութեամբ ընթանալով իր առջեւ՝ մեր կեանքին բոլոր օրերուն մէջ:
in piety and uprightness all our days.
76 Իսկ դո՛ւն, մանո՛ւկ, Ամենաբարձրին մարգարէն պիտի կոչուիս, որովհետեւ “պիտի երթաս Տէրոջ առջեւէն՝ անոր ճամբաները պատրաստելու,
And you, child, shall be called a prophet of the Most High; for you shall go before the Lord, to prepare his way,
77 անոր ժողովուրդին գիտցնելու իրենց փրկութիւնը՝ իրենց մեղքերուն ներումով”,
by giving the knowledge of salvation to his people, in the remission of their sins,
78 մեր Աստուծոյն գթառատ ողորմութեամբ, որով Ծագող արեւը բարձրէն այցելեց մեզի՝
through the tender compassion of our God, who has caused a light to spring from on high to visit us,
79 “փայլելու խաւարի եւ մահուան շուքի մէջ բնակողներուն վրայ”, ու մեր ոտքերը ուղղելու դէպի խաղաղութեան ճամբան»:
to enlighten those who abide in darkness and in the shades of death; to direct our feet into the way of peace.
80 Մանուկը կը մեծնար ու կը զօրանար հոգիով, եւ անապատներուն մէջ էր՝ մինչեւ այն օրը, երբ դարձեալ ցոյց տուաւ ինքզինք Իսրայէլի:
Meantime the child grew, and acquired strength of mind, and continued in the deserts, until the time when he made himself known to Israel.
