ܫܠܝ̈ܚܐ 7
| ܘܫܐܠܗ ܪܒ ܟܗܢܐ ܕܐܢ ܗܘ ܕܗܠܝܢ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܢܝܢ | 1 |
And the chief priest said: Are these things so?
| ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܓܒܪܐ ܐܚܝܢ ܘܐܒܗܬܢ ܫܡܥܘ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܬܫܒܘܚܬܐ ܐܬܚܙܝ ܠܐܒܘܢ ܐܒܪܗܡ ܟܕ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܒܝܬ ܢܗܪܝܢ ܥܕ ܠܐ ܢܐܬܐ ܢܥܡܪ ܒܚܪܢ | 2 |
He replied: Brethren and fathers, hear: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, while he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,
| ܘܐܡܪ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܕܦܘܩ ܡܢ ܐܪܥܟ ܘܡܢ ܠܘܬ ܒܢܝ ܛܘܗܡܟ ܘܬܐ ܠܐܪܥܐ ܐܝܕܐ ܕܐܚܘܝܟ | 3 |
and said to him: Get out from your land, and from your kindred, and come into a land that I will show you.
| ܘܗܝܕܝܢ ܢܦܩ ܐܒܪܗܡ ܡܢ ܐܪܥܐ ܕܟܠܕܝܐ ܘܐܬܐ ܥܡܪ ܒܚܪܢ ܘܡܢ ܬܡܢ ܟܕ ܡܝܬ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܫܢܝܗ ܐܠܗܐ ܠܐܪܥܐ ܗܕܐ ܕܒܗ ܥܡܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܝܘܡܢܐ | 4 |
Then he departed from the land of the Chaldeans, and dwelt in Charran; and thence, after his father died, he removed into this land, in which you now dwell.
| ܘܠܐ ܝܗܒ ܠܗ ܝܪܬܘܬܐ ܒܗ ܐܦ ܠܐ ܕܘܪܟܬܐ ܕܪܓܠܐ ܘܐܫܬܘܕܝ ܗܘܐ ܕܢܬܠܝܗ ܠܗ ܐܝܟ ܕܠܡܐܪܬܗ ܠܗ ܘܠܙܪܥܗ ܟܕ ܠܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܒܪܐ | 5 |
And he gave him no inheritance in it, not a foot breadth: and yet he promised to give it for a possession to him, and to his posterity after him, when as yet he had no child.
| ܘܡܠܠ ܗܘܐ ܥܡܗ ܐܠܗܐ ܟܕ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܕܢܗܘܐ ܙܪܥܟ ܬܘܬܒܐ ܒܐܪܥܐ ܢܘܟܪܝܬܐ ܘܢܫܥܒܕܘܢܝܗܝ ܘܢܒܐܫܘܢ ܠܗ ܐܪܒܥܡܐܐ ܫܢܝܢ | 6 |
And God spoke thus: That his posterity should sojourn in a strange land, and they should enslave them and afflict them, for four hundred years.
| ܘܠܥܡܐ ܕܢܦܠܚܘܢ ܥܒܕܘܬܐ ܐܕܘܢܝܘܗܝ ܐܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܐܠܗܐ ܘܡܢ ܒܬܪ ܗܠܝܢ ܢܦܩܘܢ ܘܢܦܠܚܘܢ ܠܝ ܒܐܬܪܐ ܗܢܐ | 7 |
And the nation to which they shall be in bondage I will judge, said God; and after that, they shall come forth and serve me in this place.
| ܘܝܗܒ ܠܗ ܕܝܬܩܐ ܕܓܙܘܪܬܐ ܘܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܘܠܕ ܠܐܝܤܚܩ ܘܓܙܪܗ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܬܡܝܢܝܐ ܘܐܝܤܚܩ ܐܘܠܕ ܠܝܥܩܘܒ ܘܝܥܩܘܒ ܐܘܠܕ ܠܬܪܥܤܪ ܐܒܗܬܢ | 8 |
And he gave him the covenant of circumcision, and thus he begot Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot the twelve patriarchs.
| ܘܗܢܘܢ ܐܒܗܬܢ ܛܢܘ ܒܝܘܤܦ ܘܙܒܢܘܗܝ ܠܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܐܠܗܐ ܥܡܗ ܗܘܐ | 9 |
And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him,
| ܘܦܪܩܗ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܐܘܠܨܢܘܗܝ ܘܝܗܒ ܠܗ ܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܘܚܟܡܬܐ ܩܕܡ ܦܪܥܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܐܩܝܡܗ ܪܫܐ ܥܠ ܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܥܠ ܒܝܬܗ ܟܠܗ | 10 |
and delivered him from all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharoah, king of Egypt: and he made him governor over Egypt, and his whole house.
| ܘܗܘܐ ܟܦܢܐ ܘܐܘܠܨܢܐ ܪܒܐ ܒܟܠܗ ܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܒܐܪܥܐ ܕܟܢܥܢ ܘܠܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܡܤܒܥ ܠܐܒܗܬܢ | 11 |
And there came a famine, and great affliction on the whole land of Egypt, and of Chanaan: and our fathers found no sustenance.
| ܘܟܕ ܫܡܥ ܝܥܩܘܒ ܕܐܝܬ ܥܒܘܪܐ ܒܡܨܪܝܢ ܫܕܪ ܗܘܐ ܠܐܒܗܬܢ ܠܘܩܕܡ | 12 |
But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent forth our fathers the first time:
| ܘܟܕ ܐܙܠܘ ܕܬܪܬܝܢ ܙܒܢܝܢ ܐܘܕܥ ܝܘܤܦ ܢܦܫܗ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܘܐܬܝܕܥ ܠܦܪܥܘܢ ܛܘܗܡܗ ܕܝܘܤܦ | 13 |
and, on their second visit, Joseph made himself known to his brothers, and the kindred of Joseph were made known to Pharaoh.
| ܘܫܕܪ ܗܘܐ ܝܘܤܦ ܘܐܝܬܝܗ ܠܐܒܘܗܝ ܝܥܩܘܒ ܘܠܟܠܗ ܛܘܗܡܗ ܘܗܘܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܡܢܝܢܐ ܫܒܥܝܢ ܘܚܡܫ ܢܦܫܢ | 14 |
And Joseph sent and called to him his father Jacob, and all his kindred, seventy-five souls.
| ܘܢܚܬ ܝܥܩܘܒ ܠܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܡܝܬ ܬܡܢ ܗܘ ܘܐܒܗܬܢ | 15 |
And Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, himself and our fathers;
| ܘܐܫܬܢܝ ܠܫܟܝܡ ܘܐܬܬܤܝܡ ܒܩܒܪܐ ܕܙܒܢ ܗܘܐ ܐܒܪܗܡ ܒܟܤܦܐ ܡܢ ܒܢܝ ܚܡܘܪ | 16 |
and they were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulcher which Abraham bought for its value in silver, from the sons of Emmor, the father of Sychem.
| ܘܟܕ ܡܛܝ ܗܘܐ ܙܒܢܐ ܕܡܕܡ ܕܐܫܬܘܕܝ ܗܘܐ ܒܡܘܡܬܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܠܐܒܪܗܡ ܤܓܝ ܗܘܐ ܥܡܐ ܘܬܩܦ ܒܡܨܪܝܢ | 17 |
And as the time of the promise which God had made with an oath to Abraham drew near, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt,
| ܥܕܡܐ ܕܩܡ ܡܠܟܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܥܠ ܡܨܪܝܢ ܐܝܢܐ ܕܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܠܝܘܤܦ | 18 |
till another king arose, who knew not Joseph.
| ܘܐܨܛܢܥ ܥܠ ܛܘܗܡܢ ܘܐܒܐܫ ܠܐܒܗܬܢ ܘܦܩܕ ܕܢܗܘܘܢ ܡܫܬܕܝܢ ܝܠܘܕܝܗܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܢܚܘܢ | 19 |
He dealt insidiously with our race, and afflicted our fathers, so that they exposed their infants, in order that they might not live.
| ܒܗ ܒܙܒܢܐ ܗܘ ܐܬܝܠܕ ܡܘܫܐ ܘܪܚܝܡ ܗܘܐ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܘܐܬܪܒܝ ܝܪܚܐ ܬܠܬܐ ܒܝܬ ܐܒܘܗܝ | 20 |
At which time Moses was born; and he was exceedingly beautiful, and was nursed three months in his father’s house.
| ܘܟܕ ܐܫܬܕܝ ܡܢ ܐܡܗ ܐܫܟܚܬܗ ܒܪܬ ܦܪܥܘܢ ܘܪܒܝܬܗ ܠܗ ܠܒܪܐ | 21 |
But having been exposed, the daughter of Pharaoh took him up, and educated him as her own son.
| ܘܐܬܪܕܝ ܡܘܫܐ ܒܟܠܗ ܚܟܡܬܐ ܕܡܨܪܝܐ ܘܥܬܝܕ ܗܘܐ ܒܡܠܘܗܝ ܘܐܦ ܒܥܒܕܘܗܝ | 22 |
And Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.
| ܘܟܕ ܗܘܐ ܒܪ ܐܪܒܥܝܢ ܫܢܝܢ ܤܠܩ ܗܘܐ ܥܠ ܠܒܗ ܕܢܤܥܘܪ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܒܢܝ ܐܝܤܪܝܠ | 23 |
When he had completed his fortieth year, it came into his heart to visit his brethren, the sons of Israel.
| ܘܚܙܐ ܠܚܕ ܡܢ ܒܢܝ ܫܪܒܬܗ ܕܡܬܕܒܪ ܒܩܛܝܪܐ ܘܬܒܥܗ ܘܥܒܕ ܠܗ ܕܝܢܐ ܘܩܛܠܗ ܠܡܨܪܝܐ ܗܘ ܕܡܤܟܠ ܗܘܐ ܒܗ | 24 |
And seeing one of them unjustly treated, he defended and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian.
| ܘܤܒܪ ܕܡܤܬܟܠܝܢ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܒܢܝ ܐܝܤܪܝܠ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܒܐܝܕܗ ܝܗܒ ܠܗܘܢ ܦܘܪܩܢܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܤܬܟܠܘ | 25 |
And he supposed that his brethren would understand that, by his hand, God would give them salvation: but they understood not.
| ܘܠܝܘܡܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܐܬܚܙܝ ܠܗܘܢ ܟܕ ܢܨܝܢ ܗܢܘܢ ܚܕ ܥܡ ܚܕ ܘܡܦܝܤ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܕܢܫܬܝܢܘܢ ܟܕ ܐܡܪ ܓܒܪܐ ܐܚܐ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܡܛܠ ܡܢܐ ܡܤܟܠܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܚܕ ܒܚܕ | 26 |
And on the next day he showed himself to them, as they were fighting, and endeavored to persuade them to peace, saying, Men, you are brothers: why do you injure one another?
| ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܕܡܤܟܠ ܗܘܐ ܒܚܒܪܗ ܕܚܩܗ ܡܢ ܠܘܬܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܡܢܘ ܐܩܝܡܟ ܥܠܝܢ ܪܫܐ ܘܕܝܢܐ | 27 |
But he that was doing the injury to his neighbor, thrust him away, saying, Who made you a ruler or a judge over us?
| ܕܠܡܐ ܠܡܩܛܠܢܝ ܒܥܐ ܐܢܬ ܐܝܟ ܕܩܛܠܬ ܐܬܡܠܝ ܠܡܨܪܝܐ | 28 |
Do you intend to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?
| ܘܥܪܩ ܡܘܫܐ ܒܡܠܬܐ ܗܕܐ ܘܗܘܐ ܬܘܬܒܐ ܒܐܪܥܐ ܕܡܕܝܢ ܘܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܬܪܝܢ ܒܢܝܢ | 29 |
And at that saying Moses fled, and became a resident in the land of Midian, where he begot two sons.
| ܘܟܕ ܡܠܝ ܠܗ ܬܡܢ ܐܪܒܥܝܢ ܫܢܝܢ ܐܬܚܙܝ ܠܗ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܕܛܘܪ ܤܝܢܝ ܡܠܐܟܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܒܢܘܪܐ ܕܝܩܕܐ ܒܤܢܝܐ | 30 |
And when forty years were completed, there appeared to him, in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.
| ܘܟܕ ܚܙܐ ܡܘܫܐ ܐܬܕܡܪ ܒܚܙܘܐ ܘܟܕ ܐܬܩܪܒ ܕܢܚܙܐ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܡܪܝܐ ܒܩܠܐ | 31 |
When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight, and as he was drawing near to observe it, the voice of the Lord came to him:
| ܐܢܐ ܐܢܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܒܗܝܟ ܐܠܗܗ ܕܐܒܪܗܡ ܘܕܐܝܤܚܩ ܘܕܝܥܩܘܒ ܘܟܕ ܪܬܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܡܘܫܐ ܠܐ ܡܡܪܚ ܗܘܐ ܕܢܚܘܪ ܒܚܙܘܐ | 32 |
I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses trembled, and durst not observe it.
| ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܡܪܝܐ ܫܪܝ ܡܤܢܝܟ ܡܢ ܪܓܠܝܟ ܐܪܥܐ ܓܝܪ ܕܩܐܡ ܐܢܬ ܒܗ ܩܕܝܫܐ ܗܝ | 33 |
Then said the Lord to him: Loose your shoes from your feet; for the place in which you stand is holy ground.
| ܡܚܙܐ ܚܙܝܬ ܐܘܠܨܢܗ ܕܥܡܝ ܕܒܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܬܢܚܬܗ ܫܡܥܬ ܘܢܚܬܬ ܕܐܦܪܘܩ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܗܫܐ ܬܐ ܐܫܕܪܟ ܠܡܨܪܝܢ | 34 |
I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and I have come down to deliver them; and now come, and I will send you into Egypt.
| ܠܗܢܐ ܡܘܫܐ ܕܟܦܪܘ ܒܗ ܟܕ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܕܡܢܘ ܐܩܝܡܟ ܥܠܝܢ ܪܫܐ ܘܕܝܢܐ ܠܗ ܠܗܢܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܪܫܐ ܘܦܪܘܩܐ ܫܕܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܒܐܝܕܝ ܡܠܐܟܐ ܗܘ ܕܐܬܚܙܝ ܠܗ ܒܤܢܝܐ | 35 |
This Moses, whom they rejected, saying, Who made you a ruler and a judge? him God sent as a ruler and as a redeemer, by the hand of the angel that appeared to him in the bush.
| ܗܢܘ ܕܐܦܩ ܐܢܘܢ ܟܕ ܥܒܕ ܐܬܘܬܐ ܘܬܕܡܪܬܐ ܘܓܒܪܘܬܐ ܒܐܪܥܐ ܕܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܒܝܡܐ ܕܤܘܦ ܘܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܫܢܝܢ ܐܪܒܥܝܢ | 36 |
He brought them out, after he had performed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and at the Red Sea, and in the wilderness, forty years.
| ܗܢܘ ܡܘܫܐ ܗܘ ܕܐܡܪ ܠܒܢܝ ܐܝܤܪܝܠ ܕܢܒܝܐ ܢܩܝܡ ܠܟܘܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܡܢ ܐܚܝܟܘܢ ܐܟܘܬܝ ܠܗ ܬܫܡܥܘܢ | 37 |
This is that Moses, who said to the sons of Israel, A prophet like me will the Lord your God raise up for you from among your brethren; him shall you hear.
| ܗܢܘ ܕܗܘܐ ܒܟܢܘܫܬܐ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܥܡ ܡܠܐܟܐ ܗܘ ܕܡܠܠ ܗܘܐ ܥܡܗ ܘܥܡ ܐܒܗܬܢ ܒܛܘܪܐ ܕܤܝܢܝ ܘܗܘܝܘ ܕܩܒܠ ܡܠܐ ܚܝܬܐ ܕܠܢ ܢܬܠ | 38 |
This is he who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel that spoke to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers; he received the living oracles, that he might give them to us.
| ܘܠܐ ܨܒܘ ܠܡܬܕܢܝܘ ܠܗ ܐܒܗܬܢ ܐܠܐ ܫܒܩܘܗܝ ܘܒܠܒܘܬܗܘܢ ܗܦܟܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܡܨܪܝܢ | 39 |
To him our fathers were not willing to be obedient; but they rejected him, and turned back in their hearts to Egypt,
| ܟܕ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܐܗܪܘܢ ܥܒܕ ܠܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܢܐܙܠܘܢ ܩܕܡܝܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܗܢܐ ܡܘܫܐ ܕܐܦܩܢ ܡܢ ܐܪܥܐ ܕܡܨܪܝܢ ܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܚܢܢ ܡܢܐ ܗܘܝܗܝ | 40 |
saying to Aaron: Make us gods that shall go before us; for, as for this Moses, who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we know not what has become of him.
| ܘܥܒܕܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܥܓܠܐ ܒܝܘܡܬܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܘܕܒܚܘ ܕܒܚܐ ܠܦܬܟܪܐ ܘܡܬܒܤܡܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܥܒܕ ܐܝܕܝܗܘܢ | 41 |
And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
| ܘܗܦܟ ܐܠܗܐ ܘܐܫܠܡ ܐܢܘܢ ܕܢܗܘܘܢ ܦܠܚܝܢ ܠܚܝܠܘܬܐ ܕܫܡܝܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܟܬܝܒ ܒܟܬܒܐ ܕܢܒܝܐ ܠܡܐ ܐܪܒܥܝܢ ܫܢܝܢ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܢܟܤܬܐ ܐܘ ܕܒܚܬܐ ܩܪܒܬܘܢ ܠܝ ܒܢܝ ܐܝܤܪܝܠ | 42 |
But God turned and delivered them up to serve the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets: Your victims and your sacrifices did you offer to me for forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
| ܐܠܐ ܫܩܠܬܘܢ ܡܫܟܢܗ ܕܡܠܟܘܡ ܘܟܘܟܒܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܕܪܦܢ ܕܡܘܬܐ ܕܥܒܕܬܘܢ ܕܬܗܘܘܢ ܤܓܕܝܢ ܠܗܝܢ ܐܫܢܝܟܘܢ ܠܗܠ ܡܢ ܒܒܠ | 43 |
Yes, you took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your God Remphan, images which you made to worship; and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.
| ܗܐ ܡܫܟܢܐ ܕܤܗܕܘܬܐ ܕܐܒܗܬܢ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܐܝܟ ܡܐ ܕܦܩܕ ܗܘ ܕܡܠܠ ܥܡ ܡܘܫܐ ܠܡܥܒܕܗ ܒܕܡܘܬܐ ܕܚܘܝܗ | 44 |
The tabernacle of the testimony was with our fathers in the wilderness, built as he who spoke to Moses commanded him to build it, according to the pattern which he had seen:
| ܘܠܗ ܠܗܢܐ ܡܫܟܢܐ ܐܦ ܡܥܠܘ ܐܥܠܘܗܝ ܐܒܗܬܢ ܥܡ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܐܪܥܐ ܕܝܗܒ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܝܘܪܬܢܐ ܡܢ ܥܡܡܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܫܕܐ ܡܢ ܩܕܡܝܗܘܢ ܘܐܬܝܒܠ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܝܘܡܘܗܝ ܕܕܘܝܕ | 45 |
which our fathers, who were with Joshua, received by succession, and brought into the land possessed by the Gentiles, whom God continued to drive out from the face of our fathers till the days of David,
| ܗܘ ܕܐܫܟܚ ܪܚܡܐ ܩܕܡܘܗܝ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܘܫܐܠ ܕܢܫܟܚ ܡܫܟܢܐ ܠܐܠܗܗ ܕܝܥܩܘܒ | 46 |
who found favor before God, and desired to find a dwelling-place for the God of Jacob.
| ܫܠܝܡܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܒܢܐ ܠܗ ܒܝܬܐ | 47 |
But Solomon built him a house.
| ܘܡܪܝܡܐ ܠܐ ܫܪܐ ܒܥܒܕ ܐܝܕܝܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܐܡܪ ܢܒܝܐ | 48 |
Yet the Most High dwells not in temples made with hands, as says the prophet:
| ܕܫܡܝܐ ܟܘܪܤܝ ܘܐܪܥܐ ܟܘܒܫܐ ܕܬܚܝܬ ܪܓܠܝ ܐܝܢܘ ܒܝܬܐ ܕܬܒܢܘܢ ܠܝ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܘ ܐܝܢܘ ܐܬܪܐ ܕܢܝܚܬܝ | 49 |
Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What house will you build me? says the Lord; or what is the place of my rest?
| ܠܐ ܗܐ ܐܝܕܐ ܕܝܠܝ ܥܒܕܬ ܗܠܝܢ ܟܠܗܝܢ | 50 |
Has not my hand made all these things?
| ܐܘ ܩܫܝܝ ܩܕܠܐ ܘܕܠܐ ܓܙܝܪܝܢ ܒܠܒܗܘܢ ܘܒܡܫܡܥܬܗܘܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܒܟܠܙܒܢ ܠܘܩܒܠ ܪܘܚܐ ܕܩܘܕܫܐ ܩܝܡܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܐܒܗܝܟܘܢ ܐܦ ܐܢܬܘܢ | 51 |
You stiff-necked, and uncircumcised in heart and in ears, you do always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so also do you.
| ܠܐܝܢܐ ܓܝܪ ܡܢ ܢܒܝܐ ܕܠܐ ܪܕܦܘ ܘܩܛܠܘ ܐܒܗܝܟܘܢ ܠܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܩܕܡܘ ܒܕܩܘ ܥܠ ܡܐܬܝܬܗ ܕܙܕܝܩܐ ܗܘ ܕܐܢܬܘܢ ܐܫܠܡܬܘܢ ܘܩܛܠܬܘܢܝܗܝ | 52 |
Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? They slew also those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you have now become the betrayers and murderers;
| ܘܩܒܠܬܘܢ ܢܡܘܤܐ ܒܝܕ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܕܡܠܐܟܐ ܘܠܐ ܢܛܪܬܘܢܝܗܝ | 53 |
who received the law by the appointment of angels, and have not kepi, it.
| ܘܟܕ ܫܡܥܘ ܗܘܘ ܗܠܝܢ ܐܬܡܠܝܘ ܚܡܬܐ ܒܢܦܫܗܘܢ ܘܡܚܪܩܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܫܢܝܗܘܢ ܥܠܘܗܝ | 54 |
When they heard these things, they were enraged in their hearts, and gnashed upon him with their teeth.
| ܘܗܘ ܟܕ ܡܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܘܪܘܚܐ ܕܩܘܕܫܐ ܚܪ ܒܫܡܝܐ ܘܚܙܐ ܬܫܒܘܚܬܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܘܠܝܫܘܥ ܟܕ ܩܐܡ ܡܢ ܝܡܝܢܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ | 55 |
But being full of the Holy Spirit, he looked earnestly up into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God;
| ܘܐܡܪ ܗܐ ܚܙܐ ܐܢܐ ܫܡܝܐ ܟܕ ܦܬܝܚܝܢ ܘܠܒܪܗ ܕܐܢܫܐ ܟܕ ܩܐܡ ܡܢ ܝܡܝܢܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ | 56 |
and he said: Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God.
| ܘܩܥܘ ܒܩܠܐ ܪܡܐ ܘܤܟܪܘ ܐܕܢܝܗܘܢ ܘܓܙܡܘ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܟܠܗܘܢ | 57 |
And they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and, with one consent, rushed upon him,
| ܘܐܚܕܘ ܐܦܩܘܗܝ ܠܒܪ ܡܢ ܡܕܝܢܬܐ ܘܪܓܡܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܘܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܐܤܗܕܘ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܤܡܘ ܢܚܬܝܗܘܢ ܠܘܬ ܪܓܠܘܗܝ ܕܥܠܝܡܐ ܚܕ ܕܡܬܩܪܐ ܫܐܘܠ | 58 |
and drove him out of the city, and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their clothes at the feet of a young man called Saul.
| ܘܪܓܡܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܠܐܤܛܦܢܘܤ ܟܕ ܡܨܠܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܡܪܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܩܒܠ ܪܘܚܝ | 59 |
And they stoned Stephen while he was calling on the Lord, and saying: Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
| ܘܟܕ ܤܡ ܒܘܪܟܐ ܩܥܐ ܒܩܠܐ ܪܡܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܡܪܢ ܠܐ ܬܩܝܡ ܠܗܘܢ ܗܕܐ ܚܛܝܬܐ ܘܟܕ ܗܕܐ ܐܡܪ ܫܟܒ | 60 |
And he kneeled down and cried with a loud voice: Lord, let not this sin stand against them. And when he had said this, he fell asleep. And Saul was well pleased with his death.
