| ܘܓܒܪܐ ܚܕ ܕܫܡܗ ܗܘܐ ܚܢܢܝܐ ܥܡ ܐܢܬܬܗ ܕܫܡܗ ܗܘܐ ܫܦܝܪܐ ܙܒܢ ܗܘܐ ܩܪܝܬܗ | 1 |
NOW a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, had sold an estate,
| ܘܫܩܠ ܡܢ ܛܝܡܝܗ ܘܛܫܝ ܟܕ ܪܓܝܫܐ ܗܘܬ ܒܗ ܐܢܬܬܗ ܘܐܝܬܝ ܡܢܗ ܡܢ ܟܤܦܐ ܘܤܡ ܩܕܡ ܪܓܠܝܗܘܢ ܕܫܠܝܚܐ | 2 |
and secreted a part of the price paid, his wife also being privy to the transaction, and he brought a part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
| ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܫܡܥܘܢ ܚܢܢܝܐ ܡܢܘ ܕܗܟܢܐ ܡܠܐ ܤܛܢܐ ܠܒܟ ܕܬܕܓܠ ܒܪܘܚܐ ܕܩܘܕܫܐ ܘܬܛܫܐ ܡܢ ܟܤܦܐ ܕܕܡܝܗ ܕܩܪܝܬܐ | 3 |
But Peter said, O Ananias! why hath Satan filled thy heart that thou shouldst lie to the Holy Ghost, and secrete something from the price of the estate?
| ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܕܝܠܟ ܗܘܬ ܥܕܠܐ ܬܙܕܒܢ ܘܡܢ ܕܐܙܕܒܢܬ ܬܘܒ ܐܢܬ ܫܠܝܛ ܗܘܝܬ ܥܠ ܕܡܝܗ ܠܡܢܐ ܤܡܬ ܒܠܒܟ ܕܬܥܒܕ ܨܒܘܬܐ ܗܕܐ ܠܐ ܕܓܠܬ ܒܒܢܝ ܐܢܫܐ ܐܠܐ ܒܐܠܗܐ | 4 |
it remained unsold, was it not vested in thee? and when sold, was it not in thine own power? why then hast thou determined in thine heart to do this deed? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
| ܘܟܕ ܫܡܥ ܚܢܢܝܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܡܠܐ ܢܦܠ ܘܡܝܬ ܘܗܘܬ ܕܚܠܬܐ ܪܒܬܐ ܒܟܠܗܘܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܕܫܡܥܘ | 5 |
Then Ananias, hearing those words, sunk down and expired: and great dread fell upon all who heard these things.
| ܘܩܡܘ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܥܠܝܡܝܢ ܒܗܘܢ ܘܟܢܫܘܗܝ ܘܐܦܩܘ ܩܒܪܘܗܝ | 6 |
Then the young men arose, and swathed him up, and carrying him out, buried him.
| ܘܡܢ ܒܬܪ ܕܗܘܝ ܬܠܬ ܫܥܝܢ ܐܦ ܐܢܬܬܗ ܥܠܬ ܟܕ ܠܐ ܝܕܥܐ ܗܘܬ ܡܢܐ ܗܘܐ | 7 |
Now it came to pass at the distance of about three hours, his wife also, not knowing what had passed, came in.
| ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܫܡܥܘܢ ܐܡܪ ܠܝ ܐܢ ܒܗܠܝܢ ܕܡܝܐ ܙܒܢܬܘܢ ܩܪܝܬܐ ܗܝ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪܬ ܐܝܢ ܒܗܠܝܢ ܕܡܝܐ | 8 |
And Peter addressed her, Tell me, if ye sold the estate for so much? And she said, Yes, for so much.
| ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܫܡܥܘܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܫܬܘܝܬܘܢ ܠܡܢܤܝܘ ܪܘܚܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܗܐ ܪܓܠܝܗܘܢ ܕܩܒܘܪܘܗܝ ܕܒܥܠܟܝ ܒܬܪܥܐ ܘܗܢܘܢ ܢܦܩܘܢܟܝ | 9 |
Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have conspired together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? see, the feet of them who have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.
| ܘܒܗ ܒܫܥܬܐ ܢܦܠܬ ܩܕܡ ܪܓܠܝܗܘܢ ܘܡܝܬܬ ܘܥܠܘ ܥܠܝܡܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܘܐܫܟܚܘܗ ܟܕ ܡܝܬܐ ܘܩܦܤܘ ܐܘܒܠܘ ܩܒܪܘܗ ܥܠ ܓܢܒ ܒܥܠܗ | 10 |
Then she fell instantly at his feet, and expired: and the young men entering, found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her with her husband.
| ܘܗܘܬ ܕܚܠܬܐ ܪܒܬܐ ܒܟܠܗ ܥܕܬܐ ܘܒܟܠܗܘܢ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܫܡܥܘ | 11 |
And great awe fell on all the Church, and on all who heard these things.
| ܘܗܘܝܢ ܗܘܝ ܒܝܕ ܫܠܝܚܐ ܐܬܘܬܐ ܘܓܒܪܘܬܐ ܤܓܝܐܬܐ ܒܥܡܐ ܘܟܠܗܘܢ ܟܢܝܫܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܐܟܚܕܐ ܒܐܤܛܘܐ ܕܫܠܝܡܘܢ | 12 |
But by the hands of the apostles were many signs and miracles done among the people; (and they were all with one accord in the portico of Solomon.
| ܘܡܢ ܐܢܫܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܐܢܫ ܠܐ ܡܡܪܚ ܗܘܐ ܕܢܬܩܪܒ ܠܘܬܗܘܢ ܐܠܐ ܡܘܪܒ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܥܡܐ | 13 |
But of the rest no man had the courage to unite himself with them: though the people extolled them.
| ܘܝܬܝܪ ܡܬܬܘܤܦܢ ܗܘܘ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܡܗܝܡܢܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܡܪܝܐ ܟܢܫܐ ܕܓܒܪܐ ܘܕܢܫܐ | 14 |
But believers on the Lord were abundantly added to them, multitudes, both of men and women.)
| ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܒܫܘܩܐ ܡܦܩܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܟܪܝܗܐ ܟܕ ܪܡܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܥܪܤܬܐ ܕܐܡܬܝ ܕܢܗܘܐ ܐܬܐ ܫܡܥܘܢ ܐܦܢ ܛܠܢܝܬܗ ܬܓܢ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ | 15 |
Insomuch that they carried out into the streets the sick, and laid them on beds and couches, that when Peter was coming by, if but even his shadow might pass over some of them.
| ܐܬܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܕܝܢ ܤܓܝܐܐ ܠܘܬܗܘܢ ܡܢ ܡܕܝܢܬܐ ܐܚܪܢܝܬܐ ܕܚܕܪܝ ܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܟܕ ܡܝܬܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܟܪܝܗܐ ܘܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܗܘܝܢ ܗܘܝ ܠܗܘܢ ܪܘܚܐ ܛܢܦܬܐ ܘܡܬܚܠܡܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܟܠܗܘܢ | 16 |
Then came together also a multitude from the neighbouring cities to Jerusalem, bringing the sick, and those who were disturbed by unclean spirits; who were healed universally.
| ܘܐܬܡܠܝ ܗܘܐ ܚܤܡܐ ܪܒ ܟܗܢܐ ܘܟܠܗܘܢ ܕܥܡܗ ܕܐܝܬܝܗܘܢ ܗܘܘ ܡܢ ܝܘܠܦܢܐ ܕܙܕܘܩܝܐ | 17 |
Then arose the high-priest, and all those who were connected with him, (which was the sect of the Sadducees, ) and were filled with zeal,
| ܘܐܪܡܝܘ ܐܝܕܝܐ ܥܠ ܫܠܝܚܐ ܘܐܚܕܘ ܐܤܪܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܒܝܬ ܐܤܝܪܐ | 18 |
and laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.
| ܗܝܕܝܢ ܒܠܠܝܐ ܡܠܐܟܐ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܦܬܚ ܬܪܥܐ ܕܒܝܬ ܐܤܝܪܐ ܘܐܦܩ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ | 19 |
But the angel of the Lord by night opened the doors of the prison, and conducting them forth, said,
| ܙܠܘ ܩܘܡܘ ܒܗܝܟܠܐ ܘܡܠܠܘ ܠܥܡܐ ܟܠܗܝܢ ܡܠܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܕܚܝܐ | 20 |
Go, and taking your station in the temple, speak to the people all the words of this life.
| ܘܢܦܩܘ ܥܕܢ ܫܦܪܐ ܘܥܠܘ ܠܗܝܟܠܐ ܘܡܠܦܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܪܒ ܟܗܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܘܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܥܡܗ ܩܪܘ ܠܚܒܪܝܗܘܢ ܘܠܩܫܝܫܐ ܕܐܝܤܪܝܠ ܘܫܕܪܘ ܠܒܝܬ ܐܤܝܪܐ ܕܢܝܬܘܢ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܫܠܝܚܐ | 21 |
Having heard this therefore, they entered very early in the morning into the temple, and taught. But when the high-priest came, and those who were with him, they convoked the sanhedrim, and all the assembly of elders of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to bring them.
| ܘܟܕ ܐܙܠܘ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܐܫܬܕܪܘ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܠܐ ܐܫܟܚܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܒܝܬ ܐܤܝܪܐ ܘܗܦܟܘ ܐܬܘ | 22 |
But the officers, on their arrival, found them not in the prison: and returning, informed them,
| ܐܡܪܝܢ ܐܫܟܚܢ ܒܝܬ ܐܤܝܪܐ ܕܐܚܝܕ ܙܗܝܪܐܝܬ ܘܐܦ ܠܢܛܘܪܐ ܕܩܝܡܝܢ ܥܠ ܬܪܥܐ ܘܦܬܚܢ ܘܐܢܫ ܠܐ ܐܫܟܚܢ ܬܡܢ | 23 |
saying; The prison indeed found we fast locked with all security, and the guards standing without, before the door: but when we opened it, we found no person within.
| ܘܟܕ ܫܡܥܘ ܗܠܝܢ ܡܠܐ ܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܘܐܪܟܘܢܐ ܕܗܝܟܠܐ ܬܘܝܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܘܡܬܚܫܒܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܕܡܢܐ ܗܝ ܗܕܐ | 24 |
Now when they heard these words, both the priest and captain of the temple and the chief priests were in the utmost perplexity concerning these things, what could be the meaning of it.
| ܘܐܬܐ ܐܢܫ ܐܘܕܥ ܐܢܘܢ ܕܗܢܘܢ ܓܒܪܐ ܕܚܒܫܬܘܢ ܒܝܬ ܐܤܝܪܐ ܗܐ ܩܝܡܝܢ ܒܗܝܟܠܐ ܘܡܠܦܝܢ ܠܥܡܐ | 25 |
Then came a person and informed them, saying, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.
| ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܙܠܘ ܐܪܟܘܢܐ ܥܡ ܕܚܫܐ ܕܢܝܬܘܢ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܐ ܒܩܛܝܪܐ ܕܚܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܓܝܪ ܕܠܡܐ ܢܪܓܘܡ ܐܢܘܢ ܥܡܐ | 26 |
Then went the captain, with the officers, and brought them; not forcibly, for they were afraid of the people, lest they should stone them.
| ܘܟܕ ܐܝܬܝܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܐܩܝܡܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܩܕܡ ܟܠܗ ܟܢܫܐ ܘܐܩܦ ܗܘܐ ܪܒ ܟܗܢܐ ܠܡܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ | 27 |
But when they had conducted them, they placed them in the sanhedrim: and the high-priest interrogated them,
| ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܦܩܕ ܦܩܕܢ ܗܘܝܢ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܠܐܢܫ ܠܐ ܬܠܦܘܢ ܒܫܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܗܐ ܡܠܝܬܘܢܗ ܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܡܢ ܝܘܠܦܢܟܘܢ ܘܨܒܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܬܝܬܘܢ ܥܠܝܢ ܕܡܗ ܕܓܒܪܐ ܗܢܐ | 28 |
saying, Did we not lay our strict injunction upon you, that you should not teach in this name? and, lo, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and would fain bring this man’s blood upon us.
| ܥܢܐ ܫܡܥܘܢ ܥܡ ܫܠܝܚܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܘܠܐ ܠܡܬܛܦܤܘ ܝܬܝܪ ܡܢ ܕܠܒܢܝܢܫܐ | 29 |
Then Peter and the apostles answering said, We must obey God rather than men.
| ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܒܗܬܢ ܐܩܝܡ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܐܝܢܐ ܕܐܢܬܘܢ ܩܛܠܬܘܢ ܟܕ ܬܠܝܬܘܢܝܗܝ ܥܠ ܩܝܤܐ | 30 |
The God of our fathers hath raised up Jesus, whom ye had killed, suspending him on a tree.
| ܠܗ ܠܗܢܐ ܐܩܝܡ ܐܠܗܐ ܪܫܐ ܘܡܚܝܢܐ ܘܐܪܝܡܗ ܒܝܡܝܢܗ ܐܝܟ ܕܢܬܠ ܬܝܒܘܬܐ ܘܫܘܒܩܢ ܚܛܗܐ ܠܐܝܤܪܝܠ | 31 |
Him hath God exalted at his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, to give repentance unto Israel, and remission of sins.
| ܘܚܢܢ ܤܗܕܐ ܚܢܢ ܕܡܠܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܘܪܘܚܐ ܕܩܘܕܫܐ ܗܘ ܕܝܗܒ ܐܠܗܐ ܠܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܡܗܝܡܢܝܢ ܒܗ | 32 |
And we are witnesses of these things; and the Holy Ghost also, which God hath given to those who obey him.
| ܘܟܕ ܫܡܥܘ ܗܘܘ ܗܠܝܢ ܡܠܐ ܡܬܓܘܙܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܪܘܓܙܐ ܘܡܬܚܫܒܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܡܩܛܠ ܐܢܘܢ | 33 |
But when they heard this, they were cut asunder as with a saw, and took counsel how to make away with them.
| ܘܩܡ ܗܘܐ ܚܕ ܡܢ ܦܪܝܫܐ ܕܫܡܗ ܗܘܐ ܓܡܠܝܐܝܠ ܡܠܦ ܢܡܘܤܐ ܘܡܝܩܪ ܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܥܡܐ ܘܦܩܕ ܕܢܦܩܘܢ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܫܠܝܚܐ ܠܒܪ ܥܕܢܐ ܙܥܘܪܐ | 34 |
Then arose a certain Pharisee, in the sanhedrim, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, held in high esteem by all the people, and ordered the apostles to be taken out for a little space;
| ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܓܒܪܐ ܒܢܝ ܐܝܤܪܝܠ ܐܙܕܗܪܘ ܒܢܦܫܟܘܢ ܘܚܙܘ ܡܢܐ ܘܠܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܠܡܥܒܕ ܥܠ ܗܠܝܢ ܐܢܫܐ | 35 |
and he said unto them, Men of Israel, take heed to yourselves respecting these men, what ye mean to do to them.
| ܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܓܝܪ ܗܢܐ ܙܒܢܐ ܩܡ ܗܘܐ ܬܘܕܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܥܠ ܢܦܫܗ ܕܡܕܡ ܗܘ ܪܒ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܒܬܪܗ ܐܝܟ ܐܪܒܥܡܐܐ ܓ ܒܪܝܢ ܘܗܘ ܐܬܩܛܠ ܘܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܐܙܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܬܪܗ ܐܬܒܕܪܘ ܘܗܘܘ ܐܝܟ ܠܐ ܡܕܡ | 36 |
For before these days arose Theudas, saying that he himself was a singular personage: to whom a number of men, about four hundred, attached themselves: who was taken off; and as many as obeyed him, were dispersed, and came to nothing.
| ܘܩܡ ܡܢ ܒܬܪܗ ܝܗܘܕܐ ܓܠܝܠܝܐ ܒܝܘܡܬܐ ܕܡܬܟܬܒܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܐܢܫܐ ܒܟܤܦ ܪܫܐ ܘܐܤܛܝ ܥܡܐ ܤܓܝܐܐ ܒܬܪܗ ܘܗܘ ܡܝܬ ܘܟܠܗܘܢ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܐܙܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܬܪܗ ܐܬܒܕܪܘ | 37 |
And after him arose Judas the Galilean, in the days of the enrolment, and drew away a multitude of the populace after him: he also perished, and all, as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.
| ܘܗܫܐ ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܦܪܘܩܘ ܠܟܘܢ ܡܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܐܢܫܐ ܘܫܒܘܩܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܕܐܢ ܗܘ ܕܡܢ ܒܢܝܢܫܐ ܐܝܬܝܗ ܗܕܐ ܡܚܫܒܬܐ ܘܗܢܐ ܥܒܕܐ ܡܫܬܪܝܢ ܘܥܒܪܝܢ | 38 |
And as to the matters now before you, I say unto you, Abstain from these men, and leave them to themselves: for if this design or this work be of men, it will come to nothing:
| ܐܢ ܕܝܢ ܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܗܘ ܠܐ ܡܛܝܐ ܒܐܝܕܝܟܘܢ ܕܬܒܛܠܘܢܝܗܝ ܕܠܡܐ ܬܫܬܟܚܘܢ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܠܘܩܒܠ ܐܠܗܐ ܩܝܡܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ | 39 |
but if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; and in that case would be found fighters against God.
| ܘܐܬܛܦܝܤܘ ܠܗ ܘܩܪܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܫܠܝܚܐ ܘܢܓܕܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܦܩܕܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܢܗܘܘܢ ܡܡܠܠܝܢ ܒܫܡܐ ܕܝܫܘܥ ܘܫܪܘ ܐܢܘܢ | 40 |
And to him they assented: and calling in the apostles, after scourging them, they commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and dismissed them.
| ܘܢܦܩܘ ܡܢ ܩܕܡܝܗܘܢ ܟܕ ܚܕܝܢ ܕܫܘܘ ܗܘܘ ܡܛܠ ܫܡܐ ܕܢܨܛܥܪܘܢ | 41 |
Then they went rejoicing from the presence of the sanhedrim, that for his name’s sake, they had been counted worthy to suffer this injurious treatment.
| ܘܠܐ ܫܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܟܠܝܘܡ ܠܡܠܦܘ ܒܗܝܟܠܐ ܘܒܒܝܬܐ ܘܠܡܤܒܪܘ ܥܠ ܡܪܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܝܚܐ | 42 |
And all the day long in the temple, and from house to house, they never ceased teaching and preaching Jesus Christ.
