المَزامِير 121

١ 1 تَرْنِيمَةُ الْمَصَاعِدِ أَرْفَعُ عَيْنَيَّ إِلَى الْجِبَالِ. مِنْ أَيْنَ يَأْتِي عَوْنِي؟

[When we travel toward Jerusalem], I look up toward the hills [and I ask myself], “Who will help me?”

٢ 2 يَأْتِي عَوْنِي مِنْ عِنْدِ الرَّبِّ، صَانِعِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ.

[And my answer is] that Yahweh is the one who helps me; he is the one who made heaven and the earth.

٣ 3 لَا يَدَعُ قَدَمَكَ تَزِلُّ. لَا يَنْعَسُ حَافِظُكَ.

He will not allow us to fall/stumble; God, who protects us, will not fall asleep.

٤ 4 لَا يَنْعَسُ وَلَا يَنَامُ حَافِظُ إِسْرَائِيلَ.

The one who protects us Israeli people never gets sleepy, nor does he sleep [LIT].

٥ 5 الرَّبُّ هُوَ حَافِظُكَ، الرَّبُّ سِتْرٌ لَكَ عَنْ يَمِينِكَ.

Yahweh watches over us; he is like the shade [MET] [that protects us from the sun].

٦ 6 لَنْ تَضْرِبَكَ الشَّمْسُ بِحَرِّهَا نَهَاراً وَلَا الْقَمَرُ بِنُورِهِ لَيْلاً.

[He will not allow] the sun to harm us during the day, and [he will not allow] the moon to harm us during the night.

٧ 7 يَقِيكَ الرَّبُّ مِنْ كُلِّ شَرٍّ. يَقِي نَفْسَكَ.

Yahweh will protect us from being harmed in any manner; he will keep us safe.

٨ 8 الرَّبُّ يَحْفَظُ ذِهَابَكَ وَإِيَابَكَ مِنَ الآنَ وَإِلَى الأَبَدِ.

He will protect us from the time that we leave [our houses in the morning] until we return [in the evening]; he will protect us now, and he will protect us forever.
