< الأمثال 20 >

الْخَمْرُ مُسْتَهْزِئَةٌ، وَالْمُسْكِرُ صَخَّابٌ، وَمَنْ يُدْمِنْ عَلَيْهَا فَلَيْسَ بِحَكِيمٍ. ١ 1
Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.
سَخَطُ الْمَلِكِ مِثْلُ زَمْجَرَةِ الأَسَدِ، وَمَنْ يُثِيرُ غَيْظَهُ يُسِيءُ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ. ٢ 2
The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion. He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.
مِنْ دَوَاعِي شَرَفِ الْمَرْءِ أَنْ يَتَفَادَى الْخُصُومَةَ، وَالأَحْمَقُ يَخُوضُ مُعْتَرَكَ النِّزَاعِ. ٣ 3
It is an honour for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarrelling.
لَا يَحْرُثُ الْكَسُولُ فِي الْمَوْسِمِ خَشْيَةَ الْبَرْدِ، وَفِي أَوَانِ الْحَصَادِ يَطْلُبُ غَلَّةً فَلا يَجِدُ. ٤ 4
The sluggard will not plough by reason of the winter; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
نَوَايَا قَلْبِ الْمَرْءِ كَمَاءٍ عَمِيقٍ وَالْعَاقِلُ مَنْ يَسْتَخْرِجُهَا. ٥ 5
Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.
كَثِيرُونَ يَدَّعُونَ الصَّلاحَ، أَمَّا الأَمِينُ فَمَنْ يَعْثُرُ عَلَيْهِ؟ ٦ 6
Many men claim to be men of unfailing love, but who can find a faithful man?
الصِّدِّيقُ يَسْلُكُ بِكَمَالِهِ، فَطُوبَى لأَبْنَائِهِ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ. ٧ 7
A righteous man walks in integrity. Blessed are his children after him.
الْمَلِكُ الْمُتَرَبِّعُ عَلَى عَرْشِ الْقَضَاءِ يُغَرْبِلُ بِعَيْنِهِ الْبَصِيرَةِ الْخَيْرَ مِنْ كُلِّ شَرٍّ. ٨ 8
A king who sits on the throne of judgement scatters away all evil with his eyes.
مَنْ يَدَّعِي قَائِلاً: إِنِّي نَقَّيْتُ قَلْبِي، وَتَطَهَّرْتُ مِنْ خَطِيئَتِي؟ ٩ 9
Who can say, “I have made my heart pure. I am clean and without sin”?
الْغِشُّ مَا بَيْنَ أَوْزَانِ وَمَعَايِيرِ وَمَكَايِيلِ الشِّرَاءِ، وَأَوْزَانِ وَمَعَايِيرِ وَمَكَايِيلِ الْبَيْعِ رِجْسٌ لَدَى الرَّبِّ. ١٠ 10
Differing weights and differing measures, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.
حَتَّى الصَّبِيُّ يَكْشِفُ بِتَصَرُّفِهِ هَلْ عَمَلُهُ نَقِيٌّ وَقَوِيمٌ أَمْ لا. ١١ 11
Even a child makes himself known by his doings, whether his work is pure, and whether it is right.
اللهُ هُوَ صَانِعُ الأُذُنِ الْمُطِيعَةِ وَالْعَيْنِ الْبَصِيرَةِ. ١٢ 12
The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD has made even both of them.
لَا تُوْلَعْ بِالنَّوْمِ لِئَلّا تَفْتَقِرَ، اسْتَيْقِظْ وَاعْمَلْ فَتَشْبَعَ خُبْزاً. ١٣ 13
Don’t love sleep, lest you come to poverty. Open your eyes, and you shall be satisfied with bread.
يَقُولُ الْمُشْتَرِي: هَذِهِ بِضَاعَةٌ رَدِيئَةٌ! هَذِهِ بِضَاعَةٌ رَدِيئَةٌ! وَإذَا مَضَى بِها فِي حَالِ سَبِيلِهِ يَشْرَعُ فِي الافْتِخَارِ. ١٤ 14
“It’s no good, it’s no good,” says the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasts.
مَعَ أَنَّ الذَّهَبَ مَوْجُودٌ وَاللَّآلِئَ كَثِيرَةٌ، فَإِنَّ الشِّفَاهَ النَّاطِقَةَ بِالْمَعْرِفَةِ جَوْهَرَةٌ نَادِرَةٌ. ١٥ 15
There is gold and abundance of rubies, but the lips of knowledge are a rare jewel.
خُذْ ثَوْبَ الْمَرْءِ الَّذِي ضَمِنَ غَرِيباً، وَارْتَهِنْهُ مِنْهُ، لأَنَّهُ كَفَلَ أَجْنَبِيًّا. ١٦ 16
Take the garment of one who puts up collateral for a stranger; and hold him in pledge for a wayward woman.
الْخُبْزُ الْمُكْتَسَبُ حَرَاماً سَائِغٌ فِي حَلْقِ الإِنْسانِ، إِنَّمَا لَا يَلْبَثُ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ فَمُهُ حَصىً! ١٧ 17
Fraudulent food is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth is filled with gravel.
بِالْمَشُورَةِ تَتَرَسَّخُ الْمَقَاصِدُ، وَبِحُسْنِ الدِّرَايَةِ خُضْ حَرْباً. ١٨ 18
Plans are established by advice; by wise guidance you wage war!
النَّمَّامُ يُفْشِي الأَسْرَارَ، فَلا تُخَالِطْ مَنْ يُكْثِرُ الثَّرْثَرَةَ. ١٩ 19
He who goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets; therefore don’t keep company with him who opens wide his lips.
مَنْ يَشْتِمُ أَبَاهُ أَوْ أُمَّهُ يُطْفِئُ الرَّبُّ سِرَاجَ حَيَاتِهِ فِي الظُّلْمَةِ الْحَالِكَةِ. ٢٠ 20
Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in blackness of darkness.
رُبَّ مُلْكٍ يُوْرَثُ عَلَى عَجَلٍ فِي بِدَايَتِهِ، يَفْتَقِرُ إِلَى الْبَرَكَةِ فِي نِهَايَتِهِ. ٢١ 21
An inheritance quickly gained at the beginning won’t be blessed in the end.
لَا تَقُلْ: لأُجَازِيَنَّ مَنْ أَسَاءَ إِليَّ شَرّاً. انْتَظِرْ، فَالرَّبُّ يُعِينُكَ. ٢٢ 22
Don’t say, “I will pay back evil.” Wait for the LORD, and he will save you.
التَّلاعُبُ بِالْمَعَايِيرِ رِجْسٌ عِنْدَ الرَّبِّ، وَمِيزَانُ الْغِشِّ أَمْرٌ رَدِيءٌ. ٢٣ 23
The LORD detests differing weights, and dishonest scales are not pleasing.
خَطْوَاتُ الإِنْسَانِ يُوَجِّهُهَا الرَّبُّ، فَكَيْفَ يُمْكِنُ لِلْمَرْءِ أَنْ يَفْهَمَ طَرِيقَهُ؟ ٢٤ 24
A man’s steps are from the LORD; how then can man understand his way?
شَرَكٌ لِلإِنْسَانِ أَنْ يَتَسَرَّعَ فِي النَّذْرِ لِلرَّبِّ ثُمَّ يَنْدَمَ عَلَى مَا نَذَرَ. ٢٥ 25
It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his vows.
الْمَلِكُ الْحَكِيمُ يُغَرْبِلُ الأَشْرَارَ، ثُمَّ يَسْحَقُهُمْ بِالنَّوَارِجِ، ٢٦ 26
A wise king winnows out the wicked, and drives the threshing wheel over them.
نَفْسُ الإِنْسَانِ سِرَاجُ الرَّبِّ الَّذِي يَبْحَثُ فِي كُلِّ أَغْوَارِ ذَاتِهِ. ٢٧ 27
The spirit of man is the LORD’s lamp, searching all his innermost parts.
الرَّحْمَةُ وَالْحَقُّ يَحْفَظَانِ الْمَلِكَ، وَبِالرَّحْمَةِ يُدْعَمُ عَرْشُهُ. ٢٨ 28
Love and faithfulness keep the king safe. His throne is sustained by love.
فَخْرُ الشُّبَّانِ فِي قُوَّتِهِمْ، أَمَّا بَهَاءُ الشُّيُوخِ فَفِي مَشِيبهِمْ. ٢٩ 29
The glory of young men is their strength. The splendour of old men is their grey hair.
جُرُوحُ الضَّرْبَاتِ تُنَقِّي مِنَ الشُّرُورِ، وَالْجَلْدَاتُ تُطَهِّرُ أَغْوَارَ النَّفْسِ. ٣٠ 30
Wounding blows cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the innermost parts.
