< الأمثال 20 >
الْخَمْرُ مُسْتَهْزِئَةٌ، وَالْمُسْكِرُ صَخَّابٌ، وَمَنْ يُدْمِنْ عَلَيْهَا فَلَيْسَ بِحَكِيمٍ. | ١ 1 |
Wine [is] a scorner—strong drink [is] noisy, And any going astray in it is not wise.
سَخَطُ الْمَلِكِ مِثْلُ زَمْجَرَةِ الأَسَدِ، وَمَنْ يُثِيرُ غَيْظَهُ يُسِيءُ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ. | ٢ 2 |
The fear of a king [is] a growl as of a young lion, He who is causing him to be angry is wronging his soul.
مِنْ دَوَاعِي شَرَفِ الْمَرْءِ أَنْ يَتَفَادَى الْخُصُومَةَ، وَالأَحْمَقُ يَخُوضُ مُعْتَرَكَ النِّزَاعِ. | ٣ 3 |
Cessation from strife is an honor to a man, And every fool interferes.
لَا يَحْرُثُ الْكَسُولُ فِي الْمَوْسِمِ خَشْيَةَ الْبَرْدِ، وَفِي أَوَانِ الْحَصَادِ يَطْلُبُ غَلَّةً فَلا يَجِدُ. | ٤ 4 |
The slothful does not plow because of winter, He asks in harvest, and there is nothing.
نَوَايَا قَلْبِ الْمَرْءِ كَمَاءٍ عَمِيقٍ وَالْعَاقِلُ مَنْ يَسْتَخْرِجُهَا. | ٥ 5 |
Counsel in the heart of a man [is] deep water, And a man of understanding draws it up.
كَثِيرُونَ يَدَّعُونَ الصَّلاحَ، أَمَّا الأَمِينُ فَمَنْ يَعْثُرُ عَلَيْهِ؟ | ٦ 6 |
A multitude of men each proclaim his kindness, And a man of steadfastness who finds?
الصِّدِّيقُ يَسْلُكُ بِكَمَالِهِ، فَطُوبَى لأَبْنَائِهِ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ. | ٧ 7 |
The righteous is habitually walking in his integrity, O the blessedness of his sons after him!
الْمَلِكُ الْمُتَرَبِّعُ عَلَى عَرْشِ الْقَضَاءِ يُغَرْبِلُ بِعَيْنِهِ الْبَصِيرَةِ الْخَيْرَ مِنْ كُلِّ شَرٍّ. | ٨ 8 |
A king sitting on a throne of judgment, Is scattering all evil with his eyes,
مَنْ يَدَّعِي قَائِلاً: إِنِّي نَقَّيْتُ قَلْبِي، وَتَطَهَّرْتُ مِنْ خَطِيئَتِي؟ | ٩ 9 |
Who says, “I have purified my heart, I have been cleansed from my sin?”
الْغِشُّ مَا بَيْنَ أَوْزَانِ وَمَعَايِيرِ وَمَكَايِيلِ الشِّرَاءِ، وَأَوْزَانِ وَمَعَايِيرِ وَمَكَايِيلِ الْبَيْعِ رِجْسٌ لَدَى الرَّبِّ. | ١٠ 10 |
A stone and a stone, an ephah and an ephah, Even both of them [are] an abomination to YHWH.
حَتَّى الصَّبِيُّ يَكْشِفُ بِتَصَرُّفِهِ هَلْ عَمَلُهُ نَقِيٌّ وَقَوِيمٌ أَمْ لا. | ١١ 11 |
Even by his actions a youth makes himself known, Whether his work is pure or upright.
اللهُ هُوَ صَانِعُ الأُذُنِ الْمُطِيعَةِ وَالْعَيْنِ الْبَصِيرَةِ. | ١٢ 12 |
A hearing ear, and a seeing eye—YHWH has even made both of them.
لَا تُوْلَعْ بِالنَّوْمِ لِئَلّا تَفْتَقِرَ، اسْتَيْقِظْ وَاعْمَلْ فَتَشْبَعَ خُبْزاً. | ١٣ 13 |
Do not love sleep, lest you become poor, Open your eyes—be satisfied [with] bread.
يَقُولُ الْمُشْتَرِي: هَذِهِ بِضَاعَةٌ رَدِيئَةٌ! هَذِهِ بِضَاعَةٌ رَدِيئَةٌ! وَإذَا مَضَى بِها فِي حَالِ سَبِيلِهِ يَشْرَعُ فِي الافْتِخَارِ. | ١٤ 14 |
“Bad, bad,” says the buyer, And then he boasts himself going his way.
مَعَ أَنَّ الذَّهَبَ مَوْجُودٌ وَاللَّآلِئَ كَثِيرَةٌ، فَإِنَّ الشِّفَاهَ النَّاطِقَةَ بِالْمَعْرِفَةِ جَوْهَرَةٌ نَادِرَةٌ. | ١٥ 15 |
Substance, gold, and a multitude of rubies, Indeed, a precious vessel, [are] lips of knowledge.
خُذْ ثَوْبَ الْمَرْءِ الَّذِي ضَمِنَ غَرِيباً، وَارْتَهِنْهُ مِنْهُ، لأَنَّهُ كَفَلَ أَجْنَبِيًّا. | ١٦ 16 |
When a stranger has been guarantor, take his garment, And pledge it for strangers.
الْخُبْزُ الْمُكْتَسَبُ حَرَاماً سَائِغٌ فِي حَلْقِ الإِنْسانِ، إِنَّمَا لَا يَلْبَثُ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ فَمُهُ حَصىً! | ١٧ 17 |
The bread of falsehood [is] sweet to a man, And afterward his mouth is filled [with] gravel.
بِالْمَشُورَةِ تَتَرَسَّخُ الْمَقَاصِدُ، وَبِحُسْنِ الدِّرَايَةِ خُضْ حَرْباً. | ١٨ 18 |
You establish purposes by counsel, And with plans you make war.
النَّمَّامُ يُفْشِي الأَسْرَارَ، فَلا تُخَالِطْ مَنْ يُكْثِرُ الثَّرْثَرَةَ. | ١٩ 19 |
The busybody is a revealer of secret counsels, And do not make yourself guarantor for a deceiver [with] his lips.
مَنْ يَشْتِمُ أَبَاهُ أَوْ أُمَّهُ يُطْفِئُ الرَّبُّ سِرَاجَ حَيَاتِهِ فِي الظُّلْمَةِ الْحَالِكَةِ. | ٢٠ 20 |
Whoever is vilifying his father and his mother, his lamp is extinguished in blackness of darkness.
رُبَّ مُلْكٍ يُوْرَثُ عَلَى عَجَلٍ فِي بِدَايَتِهِ، يَفْتَقِرُ إِلَى الْبَرَكَةِ فِي نِهَايَتِهِ. | ٢١ 21 |
An inheritance gotten wrongly at first, Even its latter end is not blessed.
لَا تَقُلْ: لأُجَازِيَنَّ مَنْ أَسَاءَ إِليَّ شَرّاً. انْتَظِرْ، فَالرَّبُّ يُعِينُكَ. | ٢٢ 22 |
Do not say, “I repay evil,” Wait for YHWH, and He delivers you.
التَّلاعُبُ بِالْمَعَايِيرِ رِجْسٌ عِنْدَ الرَّبِّ، وَمِيزَانُ الْغِشِّ أَمْرٌ رَدِيءٌ. | ٢٣ 23 |
A stone and a stone [are] an abomination to YHWH, And balances of deceit [are] not good.
خَطْوَاتُ الإِنْسَانِ يُوَجِّهُهَا الرَّبُّ، فَكَيْفَ يُمْكِنُ لِلْمَرْءِ أَنْ يَفْهَمَ طَرِيقَهُ؟ | ٢٤ 24 |
The steps of a man [are] from YHWH, And man—how does he understand his way?
شَرَكٌ لِلإِنْسَانِ أَنْ يَتَسَرَّعَ فِي النَّذْرِ لِلرَّبِّ ثُمَّ يَنْدَمَ عَلَى مَا نَذَرَ. | ٢٥ 25 |
A snare to a man [that] he has swallowed a holy thing, And to make inquiry after vows.
الْمَلِكُ الْحَكِيمُ يُغَرْبِلُ الأَشْرَارَ، ثُمَّ يَسْحَقُهُمْ بِالنَّوَارِجِ، | ٢٦ 26 |
A wise king is scattering the wicked, And turns the wheel back on them.
نَفْسُ الإِنْسَانِ سِرَاجُ الرَّبِّ الَّذِي يَبْحَثُ فِي كُلِّ أَغْوَارِ ذَاتِهِ. | ٢٧ 27 |
The breath of man [is] a lamp of YHWH, Searching all the inner parts of the heart.
الرَّحْمَةُ وَالْحَقُّ يَحْفَظَانِ الْمَلِكَ، وَبِالرَّحْمَةِ يُدْعَمُ عَرْشُهُ. | ٢٨ 28 |
Kindness and truth keep a king, And he has supported his throne by kindness.
فَخْرُ الشُّبَّانِ فِي قُوَّتِهِمْ، أَمَّا بَهَاءُ الشُّيُوخِ فَفِي مَشِيبهِمْ. | ٢٩ 29 |
The beauty of young men is their strength, And the honor of old men is grey hairs.
جُرُوحُ الضَّرْبَاتِ تُنَقِّي مِنَ الشُّرُورِ، وَالْجَلْدَاتُ تُطَهِّرُ أَغْوَارَ النَّفْسِ. | ٣٠ 30 |
Blows that wound cleanse away evil, Also the scourges of the inner parts of the heart!
