يَا ابْنِي إِنْ قَبِلْتَ كَلامِي، وَادَّخَرْتَ وَصَايَايَ فِي قَلْبِكَ، | ١ 1 |
My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
وَأَرْهَفْتَ أُذُنَكَ إِلَى الْحِكْمَةِ، وَأَمَلْتَ قَلْبَكَ نَحْوَ الْفَهْمِ، | ٢ 2 |
So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, [and] apply thine heart to understanding;
وَإِنْ نَشَدْتَ الْفِطْنَةَ، وَهَتَفْتَ دَاعِياً الْفَهْمَ. | ٣ 3 |
Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, [and] liftest up thy voice for understanding;
إِنِ الْتَمَسْتَهُ كَمَا تُلْتَمَسُ الْفِضَّةُ، وَبَحَثْتَ عَنْهُ كَمَا يُبْحَثُ عَنِ الْكُنُوزِ الدَّفِينَةِ، | ٤ 4 |
If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as [for] hid treasures;
عِنْدَئِذٍ تُدْرِكُ مَخَافَةَ الرَّبِّ وَتَعْثُرُ عَلَى مَعْرِفَةِ اللهِ، | ٥ 5 |
Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
لأَنَّ الرَّبَّ يَهَبُ الْحِكْمَةَ، وَمِنْ فَمِهِ تَتَدَفَّقُ الْمَعْرِفَةُ وَالْفَهْمُ. | ٦ 6 |
For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth [cometh] knowledge and understanding.
يَذْخَرُ لِلْمُسْتَقِيمِينَ فِطْنَةً، وَهُوَ تُرْسٌ لِلسَّالِكِينَ بِالْكَمَالِ. | ٧ 7 |
He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: [he is] a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
يَرْعَى سُبُلَ الْعَدْلِ، وَيُحَافِظُ عَلَى طَرِيقِ أَتْقِيَائِهِ. | ٨ 8 |
He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
حِينَئِذٍ تُدْرِكُ الْعَدْلَ وَالْحَقَّ وَالاسْتِقَامَةَ، وَكُلَّ سَبِيلٍ صَالِحٍ. | ٩ 9 |
Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; [yea], every good path.
إِنِ اسْتَقَرَّتِ الْحِكْمَةُ فِي قَلْبِكَ وَاسْتَلَذَّتْ نَفْسُكَ الْمَعْرِفَةَ، | ١٠ 10 |
When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
يَرْعَاكَ التَّعَقُّلُ، وَيَحْرُسُكَ الْفَهْمُ. | ١١ 11 |
Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
إِنْقَاذاً لَكَ مِنْ طَرِيقِ الشَّرِّ وَمِنَ النَّاطِقِينَ بِالأَكَاذِيبِ. | ١٢ 12 |
To deliver thee from the way of the evil [man], from the man that speaketh froward things;
مِنَ الَّذِينَ يَبْتَعِدُونَ عَنْ سَوَاءِ السَّبِيلِ وَيَسْلُكُونَ فِي طُرُقِ الظُّلْمَةِ، | ١٣ 13 |
Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
الَّذِينَ يَفْرَحُونَ بِارْتِكَابِ الْمَسَاوِئِ، وَيَبْتَهِجُونَ بِنِفَاقِ الشَّرِّ، | ١٤ 14 |
Who rejoice to do evil, [and] delight in the frowardness of the wicked;
مِنْ ذَوِي الْمَسَالِكِ الْمُلْتَوِيَةِ وَالسُّبُلِ الْمُعْوَجَّةِ. | ١٥ 15 |
Whose ways [are] crooked, and [they] froward in their paths:
وَإِنْقَاذاً لَكَ مِنَ الْمَرْأَةِ الْغَرِيبَةِ الْمُخَاتِلَةِ الَّتِي تَتَمَلَّقُكَ بِكَلامِهَا، | ١٦ 16 |
To deliver thee from the strange woman, [even] from the stranger [which] flattereth with her words;
الَّتِي نَبَذَتْ شَرِيكَ صِبَاهَا وَتَنَاسَتْ عَهْدَ إِلَهِهَا. | ١٧ 17 |
Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
لأَنَّ بَيْتَهَا يَغُوصُ عَمِيقاً إِلَى الْمَوْتِ، وَسُبُلَهَا تُفْضِي إِلَى عَالَمِ الأَرْوَاحِ. | ١٨ 18 |
For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.
كُلُّ مَنْ يَدْخُلُ إِلَيْهَا لَا يَرْجِعُ وَلا يَبْلُغُ سُبُلَ الْحَيَاةِ. | ١٩ 19 |
None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.
لِهَذَا سِرْ فِي طَرِيقِ الأَخْيَارِ، وَاحْفَظْ سَبِيلَ الأَبْرَارِ، | ٢٠ 20 |
That thou mayest walk in the way of good [men], and keep the paths of the righteous.
لأَنَّ الْمُسْتَقِيمِينَ يَسْكُنُونَ الأَرْضَ، وَالْكَامِلِينَ يَمْكُثُونَ دَائِماً فِيهَا. | ٢١ 21 |
For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
أَمَّا الأَشْرَارُ فَيَنْقَرِضُونَ مِنَ الأَرْضِ، وَالْغَادِرُونَ يُسْتَأْصَلُونَ مِنْهَا. | ٢٢ 22 |
But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
