الأمثال 13
| الابْنُ الْحَكِيمُ يَقْبَلُ تَأْدِيبَ أَبِيهِ، أَمَّا الْمُسْتَهْزِئُ فَلا يَسْتَمِعُ لِلانْتِهَارِ. | ١ 1 |
A wise son—the instruction of a father, And a scorner—he has not heard rebuke.
| مِنْ ثَمَرِ أَقْوَالِ فَمِهِ يَأْكُلُ الإِنْسَانُ خَيْراً، وَشَهْوَةُ الْغَادِرِينَ ارْتِكَابُ الظُّلْمِ. | ٢ 2 |
A man eats good from the fruit of the mouth, And the soul of the treacherous—violence.
| مَنْ ضَبَطَ لِسَانَهُ صَانَ حَيَاتَهُ، وَمَنْ فَغَرَ فَاهُ مُتَهَوِّراً بِكَلامِهِ، فَمَصِيرُهُ الدَّمَارُ. | ٣ 3 |
Whoever is keeping his mouth, is keeping his soul, Whoever is opening wide his lips—ruin to him!
| نَفْسُ الْكَسُولِ تَشْتَهِي كَثِيراً وَلا تَحْصُلُ عَلَى شَيْءٍ، أَمَّا نَفْسُ الْمُجْتَهِدِ فَتَغْنَى. | ٤ 4 |
The soul of the slothful is desiring, and does not have. And the soul of the diligent is made fat.
| يَمْقُتُ الصِّدِّيقُ الْكَذِبَ، أَمَّا الشِّرِّيرُ فَبِكَثْرَةِ كَذِبِهِ يُخْزِي وَيُخْجِلُ. | ٥ 5 |
The righteous hates a false word, And the wicked causes abhorrence, and is confounded.
| الْبِرُّ يَحْفَظُ صَاحِبَ السِّيرَةِ الْكَامِلَةِ، وَيُطَوِّحُ الشَّرُّ بِالْخَاطِئِ. | ٦ 6 |
Righteousness keeps him who is perfect in the way, And wickedness overthrows a sin offering.
| رُبَّ فَقِيرٍ مُعْدَمٍ يَتَظَاهَرُ بِالْغِنَى، وَكَثِيرِ الْغِنَى يَتَظَاهَرُ بِالْفَقْرِ. | ٧ 7 |
There is [he] who is making himself rich, and has nothing, Who is making himself poor, and wealth [is] abundant.
| يَفْتَدِي الْمَرْءُ نَفْسَهُ بِغِنَاهُ، أَمَّا الْفَقِيرُ فَلا يُبَالِي بِالتَّهْدِيدِ. | ٨ 8 |
The ransom of a man’s life [are] his riches, And the poor has not heard rebuke.
| نُورُ الأَبْرَارِ يَتَلأْلأُ بِالْبَهْجَةِ، وَسِرَاجُ الأَشْرَارِ يَنْطَفِئُ وَيُظْلِمُ. | ٩ 9 |
The light of the righteous rejoices, And the lamp of the wicked is extinguished.
| تُوَلِّدُ الْكِبْرِيَاءُ الْخُصُومَةَ، أَمَّا الْمُشَاوِرُونَ فَذَوُو حِكْمَةٍ. | ١٠ 10 |
A vain man causes debate through pride, And wisdom [is] with the counseled.
| مَالُ الظُّلْمِ يَتَبَدَّدُ سَرِيعاً، وَالْمَالُ الْمُدَّخَرُ مِنْ تَعَبِ الْيَدِ يَزْدَادُ. | ١١ 11 |
Wealth from vanity becomes little, And whoever is gathering by the hand becomes great.
| الأَمَلُ الْمُمَاطَلُ يُسْقِمُ الْقَلْبَ، وَالرَّغْبَةُ الْمُتَحَقِّقَةُ شَجَرَةُ حَيَاةٍ. | ١٢ 12 |
Hope prolonged is making the heart sick, And a tree of life [is] the coming desire.
| مَنِ ازْدَرَى بِكَلِمَةِ اللهِ يَجْلِبُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ الْخَرَابَ، وَمَنْ خَشِيَ وَصِيَّةَ اللهِ يَلْقَى الثَّوَابَ. | ١٣ 13 |
Whoever is despising the word is destroyed for it, And whoever is fearing the command is repaid.
| شَرِيعَةُ الْحَكِيمِ تُنْعِشُ كَيَنْبُوعِ حَيَاةٍ، وَالَّذِي يَقْبَلُهَا يَتَفَادَى أَشْرَاكَ الْمَوْتِ. | ١٤ 14 |
The law of the wise [is] a fountain of life, To turn aside from snares of death.
| حُسْنُ التَّعَقُّلِ يُحْرِزُ الرِّضَى، أَمَّا سَبِيلُ الْغَادِرِينَ فَلا يَدُومُ. | ١٥ 15 |
Good understanding gives grace, And the way of the treacherous [is] hard.
| كُلُّ عَاقِلٍ يَعْمَلُ بِالْمَعْرِفَةِ أَمَّا الأَحْمَقُ فَيَعْرِضُ حُمْقَهُ. | ١٦ 16 |
Every prudent one deals with knowledge, And a fool spreads out folly.
| الرَّسُولُ الشِّرِّيرُ يُوْقِعُ النَّاسَ فِي الأَزْمَاتِ، أَمَّا السَّفِيرُ الأَمِينُ فَيُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ الْمُتَخَاصِمِينَ. | ١٧ 17 |
A wicked messenger falls into evil, And a faithful ambassador is healing.
| مَنْ يَرْفُضُ التَّأْدِيبَ يَحُلُّ بِهِ الْفَقْرُ وَالذُّلُّ، وَمَنْ يَتَجَاوَبُ مَعَ التَّوْبِيخِ يُكْرَمُ. | ١٨ 18 |
Whoever is refusing instruction—poverty and shame, And whoever is observing reproof is honored.
| الرَّغْبَةُ الصَّالِحَةُ الَّتِي تَتَحَقَّقُ تَلُذُّ النَّفْسَ، وَتَجَنُّبُ الشَّرِّ رِجْسٌ لَدَى الْحَمْقَى. | ١٩ 19 |
A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, And an abomination to fools [Is] to turn from evil.
| مَنْ يُعَاشِرِ الْحُكَمَاءَ يُصْبِحْ حَكِيماً، وَرَفِيقُ الْحَمْقَى يَنَالُهُ الأَذَى. | ٢٠ 20 |
Whoever is walking with wise men is wise, And a companion of fools suffers evil.
| تُلاحِقُ الْبَلِيَّةُ الْخُطَاةَ، وَيُثَابُ الصِّدِّيقُونَ خَيْراً. | ٢١ 21 |
Evil pursues sinners, And good repays the righteous.
| ثَرْوَةُ الصَّالِحِ تَدُومُ حَتَّى يَرِثَهَا الأَحْفَادُ، أَمَّا مِيرَاثُ الْخَاطِئِ فَمُدَّخَرٌ لِلصِّدِّيقِ. | ٢٢ 22 |
A good man causes sons’ sons to inherit, And the sinner’s wealth [is] laid up for the righteous.
| قَدْ يُنْتِجُ حَقْلُ الْفَقِيرِ الْمَحْرُوثُ وَفْرَةً مِنَ الْغِلالِ، إِنَّمَا يُتْلِفُهَا سُوءُ التَّبَصُّرِ. | ٢٣ 23 |
Abundance of food—the tillage of the poor, And substance is consumed without judgment.
| مَنْ كَفَّ عَنْ تَأْدِيبِ ابْنِهِ يَمْقُتُهُ، وَمَنْ يُحِبُّ ابْنَهُ يَسْعَى إِلَى تَأْدِيبِهِ. | ٢٤ 24 |
Whoever is sparing his rod is hating his son, And whoever is loving him has hurried his discipline.
| يَأْكُلُ الصِّدِّيقُ حَتَّى الشِّبَعِ، أَمَّا بَطْنُ الشِّرِّيرِ فَتَظَلُّ خَاوِيَةً. | ٢٥ 25 |
The righteous is eating to the satiety of his soul, And the belly of the wicked lacks!
