الأمثال 10

١ 1 هَذِهِ أَمْثَالُ سُلَيْمَانَ: الابْنُ الْحَكِيمُ مَسَرَّةٌ لأَبِيهِ، وَالابْنُ الْجَاهِلُ حَسْرَةٌ لأُمِّهِ.

The Proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father; but a foolish son is the grief of his mother.

٢ 2 كُنُوزُ الْمَالِ الْحَرَامِ لَا تُجْدِي، وَلَكِنَّ الْحَقَّ يُنَجِّي مِنَ الْمَوْتِ.

Treasures of wickedness profit nothing; but righteousness delivereth from death.

٣ 3 لَا يُجِيعُ الرَّبُّ نَفْسَ الصِّدِّيقِ، أَمَّا هَوَى الأَشْرَارِ فَيَنْبِذُهُ.

Jehovah suffereth not the soul of the righteous [man] to famish; but he repelleth the craving of the wicked.

٤ 4 الْعَامِلُ بِيَدٍ مُسْتَرْخِيَةٍ يَفْتَقِرُ، أَمَّا الْيَدُ الْكَادِحَةُ فَتُغْنِي.

He cometh to want that dealeth with a slack hand; but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

٥ 5 مَنْ يَجْمَعُ فِي الصَّيْفِ مَؤُونَتَهُ هُوَ ابْنٌ عَاقِلٌ، أَمَّا الَّذي يَنَامُ فِي مَوْسِمِ الْحَصَادِ فَهُوَ ابْنٌ مُخْزٍ.

He that gathereth in summer is a wise son; he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

٦ 6 تُتَوِّجُ الْبَرَكَاتُ رَأْسَ الصِّدِّيقِ، أَمَّا فَمُ الأَشْرَارِ فَيَطْغَى عَلَيْهِ الظُّلْمُ.

Blessings are upon the head of a righteous [man]; but the mouth of the wicked covereth violence.

٧ 7 ذِكْرُ الصِّدِّيقِ بَرَكَةٌ، وَاسْمُ الأَشْرَارِ يَعْتَرِيهِ الْبِلَى.

The memory of the righteous [man] shall be blessed; but the name of the wicked shall rot.

٨ 8 الْحَكِيمُ الْقَلْبِ يَتَقَبَّلُ الْوَصَايَا، وَالْمُتَبَجِّحُ الشَّفَتَيْنِ مَصِيرُهُ الْخَرَابُ.

The wise in heart receiveth commandments; but a prating fool shall fall.

٩ 9 الَّذي يَسْلُكُ بِاسْتِقَامَةٍ يَسِيرُ مُطْمَئِنّاً، وَذُو الطُّرُقِ الْمُنْحَرِفَةِ يُفْتَضَحُ.

He that walketh in integrity walketh securely; but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.

١٠ 10 مَنْ يَغْمِزُ بِعَيْنِهِ مَكْراً يُوَلِّدُ غَمّاً. وَالْمُوَبِّخُ بِجُرْأَةٍ يَصْنَعُ سَلاماً.

He that winketh with the eye causeth grief, and a prating fool shall fall.

١١ 11 فَمُ الصِّدِّيقِ يَنْبُعُ بِكَلامِ الْحَيَاةِ، أَمَّا فَمُ الشِّرِّيرِ فَيَطْغَى عَلَيْهِ الظُّلْمُ.

The mouth of a righteous [man] is a fountain of life; but the mouth of the wicked covereth violence.

١٢ 12 الْبَغْضَاءُ تُثِيرُ الْخُصُومَاتِ، وَالْمَحَبَّةُ تَسْتُرُ جَمِيعَ الذُّنُوبِ.

Hatred stirreth up strifes; but love covereth all transgressions.

١٣ 13 فِي شَفَتَيِ الْعَاقِلِ تَكْمُنُ حِكْمَةٌ أَمَّا الْعَصَا فَمِنْ نَصِيبِ ظَهْرِ الأَحْمَقِ.

In the lips of an intelligent [man] wisdom is found; but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

١٤ 14 الْحُكَمَاءُ يَذْخَرُونَ الْمَعْرِفَةَ، أَمَّا فَمُ الْغَبِيِّ فَيَجْلِبُ الدَّمَارَ.

The wise lay up knowledge; but the mouth of the fool is near destruction.

١٥ 15 ثَرْوَةُ الْغَنِيِّ قَلْعَتُهُ الْحَصِينَةُ، وَفِي فَقْرِ الْمَسَاكِينِ هَلاكُهُمْ.

The rich man's wealth is his strong city; the destruction of the poor is their poverty.

١٦ 16 عَمَلُ الصِّدِّيقِ يُفْضِي إِلَى الْحَيَاةِ، وَرِبْحُ الشِّرِّيرِ يُؤَدِّي إِلَى الْخَطِيئَةِ.

The labour of a righteous [man] [tendeth] to life; the revenue of a wicked [man], to sin.

١٧ 17 مَنْ يَعْمَلْ بِمُقْتَضَى التَّعْلِيمِ يَسِرْ فِي دَرْبِ الْحَيَاةِ، وَمَنْ يَرْفُضِ التَّأْدِيبَ يَضِلّ.

Keeping instruction is the path to life; but he that forsaketh reproof goeth astray.

١٨ 18 مَنْ يُضْمِرْ الْبَغْضَاءَ تَنْطِقْ شَفَتَاهُ بِالْكَذِبِ، وَمَنْ جَاهَرَ بِالْمَذَمَّةِ فَهُوَ أَحْمَقُ.

He that covereth hatred hath lying lips, and he that sendeth forth a slander is a fool.

١٩ 19 فِي كَثْرَةِ الْكَلامِ زَلّاتُ لِسَانٍ، وَمَنْ يَضْبِطُ شَفَتَيْهِ فَهُوَ عَاقِلٌ.

In the multitude of words there wanteth not transgression; but he that restraineth his lips doeth wisely.

٢٠ 20 كَلامُ الصِّدِّيقِ كَالْفِضَّةِ الْمُصَفَّاةِ، وَقَلْبُ الشِّرِّيرِ يَخْلُو مِنْ كُلِّ قِيمَةٍ.

The tongue of the righteous [man] is [as] choice silver; the heart of the wicked is little worth.

٢١ 21 كَلامُ الصِّدِّيقِ يُفِيدُ كَثِيرِينَ، أَمَّا الْحَمْقَى فَيَمُوتُونَ مِنْ سُوءِ الْفَهْمِ.

The lips of a righteous [man] feed many; but fools die for want of understanding.

٢٢ 22 فِي بَرَكَةِ الرَّبِّ غِنىً وَلا تُضِيفُ إِلَيْهَا الْمَشَقَّةُ تَعَباً.

The blessing of Jehovah, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow to it.

٢٣ 23 ارْتِكَابُ الْفَاحِشَةِ عِنْدَ الْجَاهِلِ كَاللَّعِبِ، أَمَّا حُسْنُ التَّصَرُّفِ فَمَسَرَّةٌ لِلْحَكِيمِ.

It is as sport to a foolish [man] to do wickedness; but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

٢٤ 24 مَا يَخْشَى مِنْهُ الشِّرِّيرُ يُقْبِلُ إِلَيْهِ، وَشَهْوَةُ الصِّدِّيقيِنَ تُمْنَحُ لَهُمْ.

The fear of a wicked [man], it shall come upon him; but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

٢٥ 25 يَتَلاشَى الشِّرِّيرُ كَمَا تَتَلاشَى الزَّوْبَعَةُ، أَمَّا الصِّدِّيقُ فَيَخْلُدُ إِلَى الأَبَدِ.

As a whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no [more]; but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

٢٦ 26 الْكَسُولُ لِمَنْ أَرْسَلَهُ كَالْخَلِّ لِلأَسْنَانِ أَوْ كَالدُّخَانِ لِلْعَيْنَيْنِ.

As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

٢٧ 27 تَقْوَى الرَّبِّ تُطِيلُ أَيَّامَ الْحَيَاةِ، أَمَّا سِنُو الشِّرِّيرِ فَتُقْصَرُ.

The fear of Jehovah prolongeth days; but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

٢٨ 28 الْبَهْجَةُ هِيَ أَمَلُ الصِّدِّيقِ، وَرَجَاءُ الأَشْرَارِ مَآلُهُ الفَنَاءُ.

The hope of the righteous is joy; but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

٢٩ 29 طَرِيقُ الرَّبِّ هُوَ مَلاذٌ لِلْمُسْتَقِيمِينَ، وَدَمَارٌ لِفَاعِلِي الإِثْمِ.

The way of Jehovah is strength to the perfect [man], but destruction to the workers of iniquity.

٣٠ 30 لَا يُزَحْزَحُ الصِّدِّيقُ أَبَداً، أَمَّا الأَشْرَارُ فَلا يَسْكُنُونَ الأَرْضَ.

The righteous [man] shall never be moved; but the wicked shall not inhabit the land.

٣١ 31 مِنْ فَمِ الصِّدِّيقِ تَفِيضُ الْحِكْمَةُ، وَاللِّسَانُ الْمُخَاتِلُ يُقْطَعُ.

The mouth of a righteous [man] putteth forth wisdom; but the froward tongue shall be cut out.

٣٢ 32 شَفَتَا الصِّدِّيقِ تُدْرِكَانِ مَا هُوَ حَقٌّ، فَتَنْطِقَانِ بِهِ، وَفَمُ الشِّرِّيرِ لَا يَتَكَلَّمُ إِلّا بِالْبَاطِلِ.

The lips of a righteous [man] know what is acceptable; but the mouth of the wicked is frowardness.
