لُوقا 1

١ 1 لَمَّا كَانَ كَثِيرُونَ قَدْ أَقْدَمُوا عَلَى تَدْوِينِ قِصَّةٍ فِي الأَحْدَاثِ الَّتِي تَمَّتْ بَيْنَنَا،

Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to draw up a narrative concerning those matters which have been fulfilled among us,

٢ 2 كَمَا سَلَّمَهَا إِلَيْنَا أُولئِكَ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا مِنَ الْبَدَايَةِ شُهُودَ عَيَانٍ، ثُمَّ صَارُوا خُدَّاماً لِلْكَلِمَةِ،

even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word,

٣ 3 رَأَيْتُ أَنَا أَيْضاً، بَعْدَمَا تَفَحَّصْتُ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ مِنْ أَوَّلِ الأَمْرِ تَفَحُّصاً دَقِيقاً، أَنْ أَكْتُبَهَا إِلَيْكَ مُرَتَّبَةً يَا صَاحِبَ السُّمُوِّ ثَاوُفِيلُسَ

it seemed good to me also, having traced the course of all things accurately from the first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus;

٤ 4 لِتَتَأَكَّدَ لَكَ صِحَّةُ الْكَلامِ الَّذِي تَلَقَّيْتَهُ.

that thou mightest know the certainty concerning the things wherein thou wast instructed.

٥ 5 كَانَ فِي زَمَنِ هِيرُودُسَ مَلِكِ الْيَهُودِيَّةِ كَاهِنٌ اسْمُهُ زَكَرِيَّا، مِنْ فِرْقَةِ أَبِيَّا، وَزَوْجَتُهُ مِنْ نَسْلِ هَارُونَ، وَاسْمُهَا أَلِيصَابَاتُ.

There was in the days of Herod, king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abijah: and he had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.

٦ 6 وَكَانَ كِلاهُمَا بَارَّيْنِ أَمَامَ اللهِ، يَسْلُكَانِ وَفْقاً لِوَصَايَا الرَّبِّ وَأَحْكَامِهِ كُلِّهَا بِغَيْرِ لَوْمٍ.

And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

٧ 7 وَلكِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُمَا وَلَدٌ، إِذْ كَانَتْ أَلِيصَابَاتُ عَاقِراً وَكِلاهُمَا قَدْ تَقَدَّمَا فِي السِّنِّ كَثِيراً.

And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were [now] well stricken in years.

٨ 8 وَبَيْنَمَا كَانَ زَكَرِيَّا يُؤَدِّي خِدْمَتَهُ الْكَهَنُوتِيَّةَ أَمَامَ اللهِ فِي دَوْرِ فِرْقَتِهِ،

Now it came to pass, while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course,

٩ 9 وَقَعَتْ عَلَيْهِ الْقُرْعَةُ الَّتِي أُلْقِيَتْ حَسَبَ عَادَةِ الْكَهَنُوتِ لِيَدْخُلَ هَيْكَلَ الرَّبِّ وَيُحْرِقَ الْبَخُورَ.

according to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to enter into the temple of the Lord and burn incense.

١٠ 10 وَكَانَ جُمْهُورُ الشَّعْبِ جَمِيعاً يُصَلُّونَ خَارِجاً فِي وَقْتِ إِحْرَاقِ الْبَخُورِ.

And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the hour of incense.

١١ 11 فَظَهَرَ لَهُ مَلاكٌ مِنْ عِنْدِ الرَّبِّ وَاقِفاً عَنْ يَمِينِ مَذْبَحِ الْبَخُورِ.

And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.

١٢ 12 فَاضْطَرَبَ زَكَرِيَّا لَمَّا رَآهُ وَاسْتَوْلَى عَلَيْهِ الْخَوْفُ.

And Zacharias was troubled when he saw [him], and fear fell upon him.

١٣ 13 فَقَالَ لَهُ الْمَلاكُ: «لا تَخَفْ يَا زَكَرِيَّا، لأَنَّ طِلْبَتَكَ قَدْ سُمِعَتْ، وَزَوْجَتُكَ أَلِيصَابَاتُ سَتَلِدُ لَكَ ابْناً، وَأَنْتَ تُسَمِّيهِ يُوحَنَّا،

But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: because thy supplication is heard, and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

١٤ 14 وَيَكُونُ لَكَ فَرَحٌ وَابْتِهَاجٌ وَكَثِيرُونَ سَيَفْرَحُونَ بِوِلادَتِهِ.

And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.

١٥ 15 وَسَوْفَ يَكُونُ عَظِيماً أَمَامَ الرَّبِّ، وَلا يَشْرَبُ خَمْراً وَلا مُسْكِراً، وَيَمْتَلِئُ بِالرُّوحِ الْقُدُسِ وَهُوَ بَعْدُ فِي بَطْنِ أُمِّهِ،

For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.

١٦ 16 وَيَرُدُّ كَثِيرِينَ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ إِلَى الرَّبِّ إِلهِهِمْ،

And many of the children of Israel shall he turn unto the Lord their God.

١٧ 17 فَيَتَقَدَّمُ أَمَامَهُ وَلَهُ رُوحُ إِيلِيَّا وَقُدْرَتُهُ، لِيَرُدَّ قُلُوبَ الآبَاءِ إِلَى الأَوْلادِ، وَالْعُصَاةَ إِلَى حِكْمَةِ الأَبْرَارِ، لِيُهَيِّئَ لِلرَّبِّ شَعْباً مُعَدّاً!»

And he shall go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient [to walk] in the wisdom of the just; to make ready for the Lord a people prepared [for him].

١٨ 18 فَسَأَلَ زَكَرِيَّا الْمَلاكَ: «بِمَ يَتَأَكَّدُ لِي هَذَا، فَأَنَا شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ وَزَوْجَتِي مُتَقَدِّمَةٌ فِي السِّنِّ؟»

And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.

١٩ 19 فَأَجَابَهُ الْمَلاكُ: «أَنَا جِبْرَائِيلُ، الْوَاقِفُ أَمَامَ اللهِ، وَقَدْ أُرْسِلْتُ لأُكَلِّمَكَ وَأُبَشِّرَكَ بِهَذَا.

And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and I was sent to speak unto thee, and to bring thee these good tidings.

٢٠ 20 وَهَا أَنْتَ سَتَبْقَى صَامِتاً لَا تَسْتَطِيعُ الْكَلامَ، إِلَى الْيَوْمِ الَّذِي يَحْدُثُ فِيهِ هَذَا، لأَنَّكَ لَمْ تُصَدِّقْ كَلامِي، وَهُوَ سَيَتِمُّ فِي حِينِهِ».

And behold, thou shalt be silent and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall come to pass, because thou believedst not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.

٢١ 21 وَكَانَ الشَّعْبُ مُنْتَظِرِينَ زَكَرِيَّا، وَهُمْ مُتَعَجِّبُونَ مِنْ تَأَخُّرِهِ دَاخِلَ الْهَيْكَلِ.

And the people were waiting for Zacharias, and they marveled while he tarried in the temple.

٢٢ 22 وَلكِنَّهُ لَمَّا خَرَجَ لَمْ يَقْدِرْ أَنْ يُكَلِّمَهُمْ، فَأَدْرَكُوا أَنَّهُ رَأَى رُؤْيَا دَاخِلَ الْهَيْكَلِ. فَأَخَذَ يُشِيرُ لَهُمْ وَظَلَّ أَخْرَسَ.

And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: and he continued making signs unto them, and remained dumb.

٢٣ 23 وَلَمَّا أَتَمَّ أَيَّامَ خِدْمَتِهِ، رَجَعَ إِلَى بَيْتِهِ.

And it came to pass, when the days of his ministration were fulfilled, he departed unto his house.

٢٤ 24 وَبَعْدَ تِلْكَ الأَيَّامِ، حَبِلَتْ أَلِيصَابَاتُ زَوْجَتُهُ، فَكَتَمَتْ أَمْرَهَا خَمْسَةَ أَشْهُرٍ، قَائِلَةً:

And after these days Elisabeth his wife conceived; and she hid herself five months, saying,

٢٥ 25 «هَكَذَا فَعَلَ الرَّبُّ بِي، فِي الأَيَّامِ الَّتِي فِيهَا نَظَرَ إِلَيَّ لِيَنْزِعَ عَنِّي الْعَارَ مِنْ بَيْنِ النَّاسِ!»

Thus hath the Lord done unto me in the days wherein he looked upon [me], to take away my reproach among men.

٢٦ 26 وَفِي شَهْرِهَا السَّادِسِ، أُرْسِلَ الْمَلاكُ جِبْرَائِيلُ مِنْ قِبَلِ اللهِ إِلَى مَدِينَةٍ بِالْجَلِيلِ اسْمُهَا النَّاصِرَةُ،

Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

٢٧ 27 إِلَى عَذْرَاءَ مَخْطُوبَةٍ لِرَجُلٍ اسْمُهُ يُوسُفُ، مِنْ بَيْتِ دَاوُدَ، وَاسْمُ الْعَذْرَاءِ مَرْيَمُ.

to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

٢٨ 28 فَدَخَلَ الْمَلاكُ وَقَالَ لَهَا: «سَلامٌ، أَيَّتُهَا الْمُنْعَمُ عَلَيْهَا! الرَّبُّ مَعَكِ: مُبَارَكَةٌ أَنْتِ بَيْنَ النِّسَاءِ».

And he came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord [is] with thee.

٢٩ 29 فَاضْطَرَبَتْ لِكَلامِ الْمَلاكِ، وَسَاءَلَتْ نَفْسَهَا: «مَا عَسَى أَنْ تَكُونَ هذِهِ التَّحِيَّةُ!»

But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this might be.

٣٠ 30 فَقَالَ لَهَا الْمَلاكُ: «لا تَخَافِي يَا مَرْيَمُ، فَإِنَّكِ قَدْ نِلْتِ نِعْمَةً عِنْدَ اللهِ!

And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

٣١ 31 وَها أَنْتِ سَتَحْبَلِينَ وَتَلِدِينَ ابْناً، وَتُسَمِّينَهُ يَسُوعَ.

And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

٣٢ 32 إِنَّهُ يَكُونُ عَظِيماً، وَابْنَ الْعَلِيِّ يُدْعَى، وَيَمْنَحُهُ الرَّبُ الإِلهُ عَرْشَ دَاوُدَ أَبِيهِ،

He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

٣٣ 33 فَيَمْلِكُ عَلَى بَيْتِ يَعْقُوبَ إِلَى الأَبَدِ، وَلَنْ يَكُونَ لِمُلْكِهِ نِهَايَةٌ». (aiōn g165)

and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. (aiōn g165)

٣٤ 34 فَقَالَتْ مَرْيَمُ لِلْمَلاكِ: «كَيْفَ يَحْدُثُ هَذَا، وَأَنَا لَسْتُ أَعْرِفُ رَجُلاً؟»

And Mary said unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

٣٥ 35 فَأَجَابَهَا الْمَلاكُ: «الرُّوحُ الْقُدُسُ يَحِلُّ عَلَيْكِ، وَقُدْرَةُ الْعَلِيِّ تُظَلِّلُكِ. لِذلِكَ أَيْضاً فَالْقُدُّوسُ الْمَوْلُودُ مِنْكِ يُدْعَى ابْنَ اللهِ.

And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee: wherefore also that which is to be born shall be called holy, the Son of God.

٣٦ 36 وَهَا هِيَ نَسِيبَتُكِ أَلِيصَابَاتُ أَيْضاً قَدْ حَبِلَتْ بِابْنٍ فِي سِنِّهَا الْمُتَقَدِّمَةِ. وَهَذَا هُوَ الشَّهْرُ السَّادِسُ لِتِلْكَ الَّتِي كَانَتْ تُدْعَى عَاقِراً.

And behold, Elisabeth thy kinswoman, she also hath conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her that was called barren.

٣٧ 37 فَلَيْسَ لَدَى اللهِ وَعْدٌ يَسْتَحِيلُ عَلَيْهِ إِتْمَامُهُ».

For no word from God shall be void of power.

٣٨ 38 فَقَالَتْ مَرْيَمُ: «هَا أَنَا أَمَةُ الرَّبِّ. لِيَكُنْ لِي كَمَا تَقُولُ!» ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ الْمَلاكُ مِنْ عِنْدِهَا.

And Mary said, Behold, the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

٣٩ 39 وَفِي تِلْكَ الأَيَّامِ، قَامَتْ مَرْيَمُ وَذَهَبَتْ مُسْرِعَةً إِلَى الْجِبَالِ، قَاصِدَةً إِلَى مَدِينَةٍ مِنْ مُدُنِ يَهُوذَا.

And Mary arose in these days and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah;

٤٠ 40 فَدَخَلَتْ بَيْتَ زَكَرِيَّا وَسَلَّمَتْ عَلَى أَلِيصَابَاتَ.

and entered into the house of Zacharias and saluted Elisabeth.

٤١ 41 وَلَمَّا سَمِعَتْ أَلِيصَابَاتُ سَلامَ مَرْيَمَ، قَفَزَ الْجَنِينُ دَاخِلَ بَطْنِهَا. وَامْتَلأَتْ أَلِيصَابَاتُ مِنَ الرُّوحِ الْقُدُسِ،

And it came to pass, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost;

٤٢ 42 وَهَتَفَتْ بِصَوْتٍ عَالٍ قَائِلَةٍ: «مُبَارَكَةٌ أَنْتِ بَيْنَ النِّسَاءِ! وَمُبَارَكَةٌ ثَمَرَةُ بَطْنِكِ!

and she lifted up her voice with a loud cry, and said, Blessed [art] thou among women, and blessed [is] the fruit of thy womb.

٤٣ 43 فَمِنْ أَيْنَ لِي هَذَا: أَنْ تَأْتِيَ إِلَيَّ أُمُّ رَبِّي؟

And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come unto me?

٤٤ 44 فَإِنَّهُ مَا إِنْ وَقَعَ صَوْتُ سَلامِكِ فِي أُذُنَيَّ حَتَّى قَفَزَ الْجَنِينُ ابْتِهَاجاً فِي بَطْنِي:

For behold, when the voice of thy salutation came into mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

٤٥ 45 فَطُوبَى لِلَّتِي آمَنَتْ أَنَّهُ سَيَتِمُّ مَا قِيلَ لَهَا مِنْ قِبَلِ الرَّبِّ!»

And blessed [is] she that believed; for there shall be a fulfillment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord.

٤٦ 46 فَقَالَتْ مَرْيَمُ: «تُعَظِّمُ نَفْسِي الرَّبَّ،

And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,

٤٧ 47 وَتَبْتَهِجُ رُوحِي بِاللهِ مُخَلِّصِي.

And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

٤٨ 48 فَإِنَّهُ نَظَرَ إِلَى تَوَاضُعِ أَمَتِهِ، وَهَا إِنَّ جَمِيعَ الأَجْيَالِ مِنَ الآنَ فَصَاعِداً سَوْفَ تُطَوِّبُنِي.

For he hath looked upon the low estate of his handmaiden: For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

٤٩ 49 فَإِنَّ الْقَدِيرَ قَدْ فَعَلَ بِي أُمُوراً عَظِيمَةً، قُدُّوسٌ اسْمُهُ،

For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; And holy is his name.

٥٠ 50 وَرَحْمَتُهُ لِلَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَهُ جِيلاً بَعْدَ جِيلٍ.

And his mercy is unto generations and generations On them that fear him.

٥١ 51 عَمِلَ بِذِرَاعِهِ قُوَّةً؛ شَتَّتَ الْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ فِي نِيَّاتِ قُلُوبِهِمْ.

He hath shewed strength with his arm; He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their heart.

٥٢ 52 أَنْزَلَ الْمُقْتَدِريِنَ عَنْ عُرُوشِهِمْ، وَرَفَعَ الْمُتَوَاضِعِينَ.

He hath put down princes from [their] thrones, And hath exalted them of low degree.

٥٣ 53 أَشْبَعَ الْجِيَاعَ خَيْرَاتٍ، وَصَرَفَ الأَغْنِيَاءَ فَارِغِينَ.

The hungry he hath filled with good things; And the rich he hath sent empty away.

٥٤ 54 أَعَانَ إِسْرَائِيلَ فَتَاهُ، مُتَذَكِّراً الرَّحْمَةَ،

He hath holpen Israel his servant, That he might remember mercy

٥٥ 55 كَمَا تَكَلَّمَ إِلَى آبَائِنَا، لإِبْرَاهِيمَ وَنَسْلِهِ إِلَى الأَبَدِ». (aiōn g165)

(As he spake unto our fathers) Toward Abraham and his seed for ever. (aiōn g165)

٥٦ 56 وَأَقَامَتْ مَرْيَمُ عِنْدَ أَلِيصَابَاتَ نَحْوَ ثَلاثَةِ أَشْهُرٍ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَتْ إِلَى بَيْتِهَا.

And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned unto her house.

٥٧ 57 وَأَمَّا أَلِيصَابَاتُ فَتَمَّ زَمَانُهَا لِتَلِدَ فَوَلَدَتِ ابْناً.

Now Elisabeth’s time was fulfilled that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.

٥٨ 58 وَسَمِعَ جِيرَانُهَا وَأَقَارِبُهَا أَنَّ الرَّبَّ أَفَاضَ رَحْمَتَهُ عَلَيْهَا، فَفَرِحُوا مَعَهَا.

And her neighbours and her kinsfolk heard that the Lord had magnified his mercy towards her; and they rejoiced with her.

٥٩ 59 وَفِي الْيَوْمِ الثَّامِنِ حَضَرُوا لِيَخْتِنُوا الصَّبِيَّ، وَكَادُوا يُسَمُّونَهُ زَكَرِيَّا عَلَى اسْمِ أَبِيهِ.

And it came to pass on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.

٦٠ 60 وَلَكِنَّ أُمَّهُ قَالَتْ: «لا، بَلْ يُسَمَّى يُوحَنَّا!»

And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.

٦١ 61 فَقَالُوا لَهَا: «لَيْسَ فِي عَشِيرَتِكِ أَحَدٌ تَسَمَّى بِهَذَا الاسْمِ».

And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.

٦٢ 62 وَأَشَارُوا لأَبِيهِ، مَاذَا يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُسَمَّى.

And they made signs to his father, what he would have him called.

٦٣ 63 فَطَلَبَ لَوْحاً وَكَتَبَ فِيهِ: «اسْمُهُ يُوحَنَّا». فَتَعَجَّبُوا جَمِيعاً.

And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marveled all.

٦٤ 64 وَانْفَتَحَ فَمُ زَكَرِيَّا فِي الْحَالِ وَانْطَلَقَ لِسَانُهُ، فَتَكَلَّمَ مُبَارِكاً اللهَ.

And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue [loosed], and he spake, blessing God.

٦٥ 65 فَاسْتَوْلَى الْخَوْفُ عَلَى جَمِيعِ السَّاكِنِينَ فِي جُوَارِهِمْ، وَصَارَتْ هذِهِ الأُمُورُ مَوْضُوعَ الْحَدِيثِ فِي جِبَالِ الْيَهُودِيَّةِ كُلِّهَا.

And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea.

٦٦ 66 وَكَانَ جَمِيعُ السَّامِعِينَ يَضَعُونَهَا فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ، قَائِلِينَ: «تُرَى، مَاذَا سَيَصِيرُ هَذَا الطِّفْلُ؟» فَقَدْ كَانَتْ يَدُ الرَّبِّ مَعَهُ.

And all that heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, What then shall this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.

٦٧ 67 وَامْتَلأَ زَكَرِيَّا أَبُوهُ مِنَ الرُّوحِ الْقُدُسِ، فَتَنَبَّأَ قَائِلاً:

And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,

٦٨ 68 «تَبَارَكَ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُ إِسْرَائِيلَ، لأَنَّهُ تَفَقَّدَ شَعْبَهُ وَعَمِلَ لَهُ فِدَاءً،

Blessed [be] the Lord, the God of Israel; For he hath visited and wrought redemption for his people,

٦٩ 69 وَأَقَامَ لَنَا قَرْنَ خَلاصٍ فِي بَيْتِ دَاوُدَ فَتَاهُ،

And hath raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of his servant David

٧٠ 70 كَمَا تَكَلَّمَ بِلِسَانِ أَنْبِيَائِهِ الْقِدِّيسِينَ الَّذِينَ جَاءُوا مُنْذُ الْقَدِيمِ: (aiōn g165)

(As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets which have been since the world began), (aiōn g165)

٧١ 71 خَلاصٍ مِنْ أَعْدَائِنَا وَمِنْ أَيْدِي جَمِيعِ مُبْغِضِينَا،

Salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;

٧٢ 72 لِيُتِمَّ الرَّحْمَةَ نَحْوَ آبَائِنَا وَيَتَذَكَّرَ عَهْدَهُ الْمُقَدَّسَ

To shew mercy towards our fathers, And to remember his holy covenant;

٧٣ 73 ذلِكَ الْقَسَمَ الَّذِي أَقْسَمَ لإِبْرَاهِيمَ أَبِينَا: بِأَنْ يَمْنَحَنَا،

The oath which he sware unto Abraham our father,

٧٤ 74 بَعْدَ تَخْلِيصِنَا مِنْ أَيْدِي أَعْدَائِنَا، أَنْ نَعْبُدَهُ بِلا خَوْفٍ،

To grant unto us that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies Should serve him without fear,

٧٥ 75 بِقَدَاسَةٍ وَتَقْوَى أَمَامَهُ، طَوَالَ حَيَاتِنَا.

In holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

٧٦ 76 وَأَنْتَ، أَيُّهَا الطِّفْلُ، سَوْفَ تُدْعَى نَبِيَّ الْعَلِيِّ، لأَنَّكَ سَتَتَقَدَّمُ أَمَامَ الرَّبِّ لِتُعِدَّ طُرُقَهُ،

Yea and thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Most High: For thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to make ready his ways;

٧٧ 77 لِتُعْطِيَ شَعْبَهُ الْمَعْرِفَةَ بِأَنَّ الْخَلاصَ هُوَ بِمَغْفِرَةِ خَطَايَاهُمْ

To give knowledge of salvation unto his people In the remission of their sins,

٧٨ 78 بِفَضْلِ مَشَاعِرِ الرَّحْمَةِ لَدَى إِلهَنَا، تِلْكَ الَّتِي تَفَقَّدَنَا بِها الْفَجْرُ الْمُشْرَقُ مِنَ الْعَلاءِ،

Because of the tender mercy of our God, Whereby the dayspring from on high shall visit us,

٧٩ 79 لِيُضِيءَ عَلَى الْقَابِعِينَ فِي الظَّلامِ وَظِلِّ الْمَوْتِ، وَيَهْدِيَ خُطَانَا فِي طَرِيقِ السَّلامِ».

To shine upon them that sit in darkness and the shadow of death; To guide our feet into the way of peace.

٨٠ 80 وَكَانَ الطِّفْلُ يَنْمُو وَيَتَقَوَّى بِالرُّوحِ؛ وَأَقَامَ فِي الْبَرَارِي إِلَى يَوْمِ ظُهُورِهِ لإِسْرَائِيلَ.

And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.
