لاويّين 17

١ 1 وَقَالَ الرَّبُّ لِمُوسَى:

Yahweh also said to Moses/me,

٢ 2 «قُلْ لِهَرُونَ وَأَبْنَائِهِ وَسَائِرِ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ: إِلَيْكُمْ مَا أَوْصَى بِهِ الرَّبُّ:

“Speak to Aaron and his sons and to all the other Israeli people, and say this to them: ‘This is what Yahweh has commanded:

٣ 3 أَيُّ إِسْرَائِيلِيٍّ يَذْبَحُ قُرْبَاناً بَقَراً أَوْ غَنَماً أَوْ مِعْزَى فِي الْمُخَيَّمِ أَوْ خَارِجَ الْمُخَيَّمِ،

If you sacrifice an ox or a lamb or a goat, you must bring it [to the priest] at the entrance of the Sacred Tent [area], to present/offer it to me there.

٤ 4 وَلَيْسَ عِنْدَ مَدْخَلِ خَيْمَةِ الاجْتِمَاعِ حَيْثُ يَتَوَجَّبُ عَلَيْهِ تَقْدِيمُهُ أَمَامَ مَسْكَنِ الرَّبِّ، يُعْتَبَرُ قَاتِلاً قَدْ سَفَكَ دَماً، وَيَجِبُ أَنْ يُسْتَأْصَلَ ذَلِكَ الإِنْسَانُ مِنْ بَيْنِ شَعْبِهِ،

If you slaughter it to be a sacrifice anywhere else in the camp or outside the camp, you will be guilty of killing an animal [in an unacceptable place]. As a result you will no longer be allowed to be/associate with my people.

٥ 5 وَذَلِكَ لِكَيْ يَأْتِيَ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ بِذَبَائِحِهِمِ الَّتِي يَذْبَحُونَهَا فِي خَلاءِ الصَّحْرَاءِ وَيُقَدِّمُوهَا لِلرَّبِّ عِنْدَ مَدْخَلِ خَيْمَةِ الاجْتِمَاعِ، عَلَى يَدِ الْكَاهِنِ، وَيُقَرِّبُوهَا ذَبَائِحَ سَلامٍ لِلرَّبِّ.

That rule is in order that you Israeli people, instead of offering sacrifices in the open fields, will offer them to me by taking them to the priest at the entrance of the Sacred Tent [area], to be offerings to maintain fellowship [with me].

٦ 6 فَيَرُشُّ الْكَاهِنُ دَمَ الذَّبِيحَةِ عَلَى مَذْبَحِ الرَّبِّ، عِنْدَ مَدْخَلِ خَيْمَةِ الْاجْتِمَاعِ، وَيُحْرِقُ الشَّحْمَ لِيَحْظَى بِرِضَى الرَّبِّ وَسُرُورِهِ.

[After the animal is slaughtered], the priest must sprinkle some of its blood against the altar at the entrance of the Sacred Tent, and burn its fat to be an aroma that is pleasing to me.

٧ 7 وَلا يَذْبَحُوا ذَبَائِحَهُمْ فِي الْخَلاءِ كَمُحْرَقَاتٍ لأَوْثَانِ التُّيُوسِ الَّتِي يَغْوُونَ وَرَاءَهَا فَتَكُونُ لَهُمْ هَذِهِ فَرِيضَةً دَائِمَةً جِيلاً بَعْدَ جِيلٍ.

You people must no longer give sacrifices to the demons that resemble goats which you are worshiping. You people must obey this command forever.’

٨ 8 وَتَقُولُ لَهُمْ: أَيُّ إِسْرَائِيلِيٍّ، أَوْ غَرِيبٍ مِنَ الْغُرَبَاءِ الْمُقِيمِينَ فِي وَسَطِكُمْ، يُصْعِدُ مُحْرَقَةً أَوْ ذَبِيحَةً،

“And tell this to the people: ‘If any Israeli or any foreigner who is living among them brings an offering that is to be completely burned [on the altar], or any other sacrifice,

٩ 9 وَلا يَأْتِي بِها إِلَى مَدْخَلِ خَيْمَةِ الاِجْتِمَاعِ، وَلا يُقَدِّمُهَا لِلرَّبِّ يُسْتَأْصَلُ مِنْ بَيْنِ شَعْبِهِ.

and does not bring it to the entrance of the Sacred Tent [area] to be a sacrifice to me, that person will no longer be allowed to associate with my people.

١٠ 10 وَأَيُّ إِسْرَائِيلِيٍّ أَوْ غَرِيبٍ مِنَ الْمُقِيمِينَ فِي وَسَطِكُمْ، يَأْكُلُ دَماً، أَنْقَلِبُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَسْتَأْصِلُهُ مِنْ بَيْنِكُمْ.

‘I will reject [IDM] any Israeli or any foreigner who is living among you who eats any blood, and I [will command that he] no longer be allowed to associate with my people.

١١ 11 لأَنَّ حَيَاةَ الْجَسَدِ هِيَ فِي الدَّمِ. لِهَذَا وَهَبْتُكُمْ إِيَّاهُ لِتُكَفِّرُوا عَنْ نُفُوسِكُمْ، لأَنَّ الدَّمَ يُكَفِّرُ عَنِ النَّفْسِ.

That is because the life of every creature is in its blood; I have declared that it is blood that is to be offered on the altar to enable people to be forgiven for their sins.

١٢ 12 لِذَلِكَ أَوْصَيْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَلّا يَأْكُلُوا دَماً، وَكَذَلِكَ لَا يَأْكُلُهُ الْغَرِيبُ الْمُقِيمُ فِي وَسَطِكُمْ.

That is why I say that you Israelis must not eat blood, and the foreigners who live among you must also not eat blood.

١٣ 13 أَيُّ إِسْرَائِيلِيٍّ، أَوْ غَرِيبٍ مُقِيمٍ فِي وَسَطِكُمْ، يَقْتَنِصُ حَيَوَاناً أَوْ طَيْراً مُحَلَّلاً أَكْلُهُ، يَسْفِكُ دَمَهَ وَيُغَطِّيهِ بِالتُّرَابِ،

‘Any Israeli or any foreigner who is living among you who hunts any animal or bird that is permitted for you to eat, must drain out the blood [of the animal or bird that he kills], and cover the blood with dirt.

١٤ 14 لأَنَّ حَيَاةَ كُلِّ مَخْلُوقٍ هِيَ دَمُهُ، وَلِهَذَا أَوْصَيْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَلّا يَأْكُلُوا دَمَ جَسَدٍ مَا، لأَنَّ حَيَاةَ كُلِّ جَسَدٍ هِيَ دَمُهُ، وَكُلُّ مَنْ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ يُسْتَأْصَلُ.

This is because the life of every creature is in its blood. And that is why I have said [DOU] to you Israelis that anyone who eats blood must no longer [be allowed to associate with my people].

١٥ 15 أَيُّ إِنْسَانٍ، سَوَاءٌ كَانَ مُوَاطِناً أَمْ غَرِيباً، يَأْكُلُ مِنْ جِيفَةٍ أَوْ فَرِيسَةٍ، عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَغْسِلَ ثِيَابَهُ وَيَسْتَحِمَّ بِمَاءٍ، وَيَبْقَى نَجِساً إِلَى الْمَسَاءِ، ثُمَّ يُصْبِحُ طَاهِراً.

‘Anyone in Israel, including foreigners, who eats any of the meat of any creature that is found dead, or that had been killed by wild animals, must wash his clothes and bathe. Then he must not touch anyone until that evening.

١٦ 16 وَلَكِنْ إِنْ لَمْ يَغْسِلْ ثِيَابَهُ وَلَمْ يَسْتَحِمَّ يَتَحَمَّلْ عِقَابَ ذَنْبِهِ».

If he does not do those things, he will be punished for what he did.’”
