مَراثِي إرْمِي 3

١ 1 أَنَا هُوَ الرَّجُلُ الَّذِي شَهِدَ الْبَلِيَّةَ الَّتِي أَنْزَلَهَا قَضِيبُ سُخْطِهِ.

ALEPH. I am the man that sees poverty, through the rod of his wrath upon me.

٢ 2 قَادَنِي وَسَيَّرَنِي فِي الظُّلْمَةِ مِنْ غَيْرِ نُورٍ.

He has taken me, and led me away into darkness, and not [into] light.

٣ 3 حَقّاً إِنَّهُ يَمُدُّ يَدَهُ عَلَيَّ مَرَّةً تِلْوَ الْمَرَّةِ طُولَ النَّهَارِ.

Nay, against me has he turned his hand all the day.

٤ 4 أَبْلَى لَحْمِي وَجِلْدِي. هَشَّمَ عِظَامِي.

He has made old my flesh and my skin; he has broken my bones.

٥ 5 حَاصَرَنِي وَأَحَاطَنِي بِالْعَلْقَمِ وَالْمَشَقَّةِ.

BETH. He has built against me, and compassed my head, and brought travail [upon me].

٦ 6 أَسْكَنَنِي فِي الظُّلْمَةِ كَمَوْتَى الْحِقَبِ الْغَابِرَةِ.

He has set me in dark places, as them that have long been dead.

٧ 7 سَيَّجَ حَوْلِي حَتَّى لَا أُفْلِتَ. أَثْقَلَ عَلَيَّ قُيُودِي.

He has builded against me, and I can’t come forth: he has made my brazen [chain] heavy.

٨ 8 حَتَّى حِينَ أَصْرُخُ وَأَسْتَغِيثُ يَصُدُّ صَلاتِي.

GIMEL. Yes, [though] I cry and shout, he shuts out my prayer.

٩ 9 قَدْ أَغْلَقَ عَلَيَّ طُرُقِي بِحِجَارَةٍ مَنْحُوتَةٍ، وَجَعَلَ مَسَالِكِي مُلْتَوِيَةً.

DALETH. He has built up my ways, he has hedged my paths;

١٠ 10 هُوَ لِي كَدُبٍّ مُتَرَبِّصٍ، وَكَأَسَدٍ مُتَرَصِّدٍ فِي مَكْمَنِهِ.

he has troubled me, [as] a she-bear lying in wait: he is to me [as] a lion in secret places.

١١ 11 أَضَلَّ طُرُقِي وَمَزَّقَنِي إِرْباً. دَمَّرَنِي.

He pursued [me] after I departed, and brought me to a stand: he has utterly ruined me.

١٢ 12 وَتَّرَ قَوْسَهُ وَنَصَبَنِي هَدَفاً لِسَهْمِهِ.

HE. He has bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.

١٣ 13 اخْتَرَقَ كُلْيَتَيَّ بِنِبَالِ جُعْبَتِهِ.

He has caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my reins.

١٤ 14 صِرْتُ مَثَارَ هُزْءٍ لِشَعْبِي وَأُهْجِيَةً لَهُمُ الْيَوْمَ كُلَّهُ.

I became a laughing stock to all my people; and their song all the day.

١٥ 15 أَشْبَعَنِي مَرَارَةً، وَأَرْوَانِي أَفْسَنْتِيناً.

VAU. He has filled me with bitterness, he has drenched me with gall.

١٦ 16 هَشَّمَ أَسْنَانِي بِالْحَصَى، وَطَمَرَنِي بِالرَّمَادِ.

And he has dashed out my teeth with gravel, he has fed me with ashes.

١٧ 17 فَتَنَاءَتْ نَفْسِي عَنِ السَّلامِ، وَنَسِيتُ طَعْمَ الْخَيْرَاتِ.

He has also removed my soul from peace: I forgot prosperity.

١٨ 18 فَقُلْتُ: «تَلاشَتْ قُوَّتِي، وَكُلُّ مَا كُنْتُ أَرْجُوهُ مِنَ الرَّبِّ».

Therefore my success has perished, and my hope from the Lord.

١٩ 19 اُذْكُرْ بَلِيَّتِي وَتَيَهَانِي وَالأَفْسَنْتِينَ وَالْمَرَارَةَ.

ZAIN. I remembered by reason of my poverty, and because of persecution my bitterness and gall shall be remembered;

٢٠ 20 مَا بَرِحَتْ نَفْسِي تَذْكُرُهَا وَهِيَ مُنْحَنِيَةٌ فِي دَاخِلِي.

and my soul shall meditate with me.

٢١ 21 وَلَكِنْ هَذَا مَا أُنَاجِي بِهِ نَفْسِي، لِذَلِكَ يَغْمُرُنِي الرَّجَاءُ:

This will I lay up in my heart, therefore I will endure.

٢٢ 22 مِنْ إِحْسَانَاتِ الرَّبِّ أَنَّنَا لَمْ نَفْنَ، لأَنَّ مَرَاحِمَهُ لَا تَزُولُ.

HETH. [It is] the mercies of the Lord, that he has not failed me, because his compassions are not exhausted. Pity [us], O Lord, early [every] month: for we are not brought to an end, because his compassions are not exhausted.

٢٣ 23 تَتَجَدَّدُ فِي كُلِّ صَبَاحٍ. فَائِقَةٌ أَمَانَتُكَ.

[They are] new every morning: great is your faithfulness.

٢٤ 24 تَقُولُ نَفْسِي: «الرَّبُّ هُوَ نَصِيبِي فَلِذَلِكَ أَرْجُوهُ».

The Lord is my portion, says my soul; therefore will I wait for him.

٢٥ 25 الرَّبُّ صَالِحٌ لِمَنْ يَرْجُونَهُ وَلِلنَّفْسِ الَّتِي تَلْتَمِسُهُ.

TETH. The Lord is good to them that wait for him: the soul which shall seek him

٢٦ 26 خَيْرٌ لِلْمَرْءِ أَنْ يَنْتَظِرَ بِصَمْتٍ خَلاصَ الرَّبِّ.

[is] good, and shall wait for, and quietly expect salvation of the Lord.

٢٧ 27 خَيْرٌ لِلْمَرْءِ أَنْ يَحْمِلَ النِّيرَ فِي حَدَاثَتِهِ.

TETH. [It is] good for a man when he bears a yoke in his youth.

٢٨ 28 لِيَعْتَكِفْ وَحِيداً فِي صَمْتٍ لأَنَّ الرَّبَّ قَدْ وَضَعَ النِّيرَ عَلَيْهِ.

He will sit alone, and be silent, because he has borne [it] upon him.

٢٩ 29 لِيُوَارِ وَجْهَهُ فِي التُّرَابِ تَذَلُّلاً، عَسَى أَنْ يَكُونَ هُنَاكَ رَجَاءٌ.

٣٠ 30 لِيَبْذُلْ خَدَّهُ لِلاطِمِ، وَيَشْبَعْ تَعْيِيراً.

JOD. He will give [his] cheek to him that smites him: he will be filled full with reproaches.

٣١ 31 لأَنَّ الرَّبَّ لَا يَنْبِذُ إِلَى الأَبَدِ.

For the Lord will not reject for ever.

٣٢ 32 فَإِنَّهُ وَلَوْ أَحْزَنَ يَرْأَفُ بِمُقْتَضَى رَحْمَتِهِ الْفَائِقَةِ.

CHAPH. For he that has brought down will pity, and [that] according to the abundance of his mercy.

٣٣ 33 لأَنَّهُ لَا يَتَعَمَّدُ أَنْ يَبْتَلِيَ أَبْنَاءَ الْبَشَرِ بِالْبُؤْسِ وَالأَسَى،

He has not answered [in anger] from his heart, though he has brought low the children of a man.

٣٤ 34 وَلا أَنْ يَسْحَقَ أَسْرَى الأَرْضِ تَحْتَ الأَقْدَامِ،

LAMED. To bring down under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,

٣٥ 35 وَلا أَنْ يَجُورَ أَحَدٌ عَلَى حُقُوقِ الإِنْسَانِ، أَمَامَ عَيْنَيِ الرَّبِّ الْعَلِيِّ

to turn aside the judgement of a man before the face of the Most High,

٣٦ 36 أَوْ أَنْ لَا يُنْصَفَ الإِنْسَانُ فِي دَعْوَاهُ. أَلا يَرَى الرَّبُّ هَذِهِ الأُمُورَ؟

to condemn a man [unjustly] in his judgement, the Lord has not given commandment.

٣٧ 37 مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَقْضِي بِأَمْرٍ فَيَتَحَقَّقَ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنِ الرَّبُّ قَدْ أَمَرَ بِهِ؟

Who has thus spoken, and it has come to pass? the Lord has not commanded it.

٣٨ 38 أَلَيْسَ مِنْ فَمِ الْعَلِيِّ يَصْدُرُ الضُّرُّ وَالْخَيْرُ؟

Out of the mouth of the Most High there shall not come forth evil and good.

٣٩ 39 فَلِمَاذَا يَشْتَكِي الإِنْسَانُ الْحَيُّ حِينَ يُعَاقَبُ عَلَى خَطَايَاهُ؟

MEM. Why should a living man complain, a man concerning his sin?

٤٠ 40 لِنَفْحَصْ طُرُقَنَا وَنَخْتَبِرْهَا وَنَرْجِعْ إِلَى الرَّبِّ.

NUN. Our way has been searched out and examined, and we will turn to the Lord.

٤١ 41 لِنَرْفَعْ قُلُوبَنَا وَأَيْدِيَنَا إِلَى اللهِ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ.

Let us lift up our hearts with [our] hand to the lofty One in heaven.

٤٢ 42 قَدْ تَعَدَّيْنَا وَتَمَرَّدْنَا، وَأَنْتَ لَمْ تَغْفِرْ.

We have sinned, we have transgressed; and you have not pardoned.

٤٣ 43 لَفَّعْتَ نَفْسَكَ بِالْغَضَبِ وَتَعَقَّبْتَنَا. قَتَلْتَ مِنْ غَيْرِ رَحْمَةٍ.

SAMECH. You has visited [us] in wrath, and driven us away: you has slain, you has not pitied.

٤٤ 44 تَلَفَّعْتَ بِالسَّحَابِ حَتَّى لَا تَبْلُغَ إِلَيْكَ صَلاةٌ.

You have veiled yourself with a cloud because of prayer, that I might be blind,

٤٥ 45 قَدْ جَعَلْتَنَا أَوْسَاخاً وَأَقْذَاراً بَيْنَ الشُّعُوبِ.

and be cast off. AIN. You have set us [alone] in the midst of the nations.

٤٦ 46 فَتَحَ عَلَيْنَا جَمِيعُ أَعْدَائِنَا أفْوَاهَهُمْ،

All our enemies have opened their mouth against us.

٤٧ 47 وَحَلَّ بِنَا الرُّعْبُ وَالْهَلاكُ وَالدَّمَارُ وَالسَّحْقُ.

Fear and wrath are come upon us, suspense and destruction.

٤٨ 48 تَفِيضُ عَيْنَايَ بِأَنْهَارِ مِيَاهٍ عَلَى دَمَارِ ابْنَةِ شَعْبِي.

Mine eye shall pour down torrents of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.

٤٩ 49 لَنْ تَكُفَّ عَيْنَايَ عَنِ الْبُكَاءِ أَبداً،

PHE. Mine eye is drowned [with tears], and I will not be silent, so that there shall be no rest,

٥٠ 50 حَتَّى يُشْرِفَ الرَّبُّ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَيُبْصِرَ.

until the Lord look down, and behold from heaven.

٥١ 51 تَتْلَفُ عَيْنَايَ عَلَى مَصِيرِ كُلِّ بَنَاتِ مَدِينَتِي.

Mine eye shall prey upon my soul, because of all the daughters of the city.

٥٢ 52 قَدِ اصْطَادَنِي، كَعُصْفُورٍ، أَعْدَائِي الَّذِينَ لَمْ أُسِئْ إِلَيْهِمْ،

TSADE. The fowlers chased me as a sparrow, all mine enemies destroyed my life in a pit without cause,

٥٣ 53 طَرَحُونِي حَيًّا فِي الْجُبِّ وَرَجَمُونِي بِالْحِجَارَةِ.

and laid a stone upon me.

٥٤ 54 طَغَتِ الْمِيَاهُ فَوْقَ رَأْسِي، فَقُلْتُ: «قَدْ هَلَكْتُ».

Water flowed over my head: I said, I am cut off.

٥٥ 55 اسْتَغَثْتُ بِاسْمِكَ يَا رَبُّ مِنْ أَعْمَاقِ الْجُبِّ،

KOPH. I called upon your name, O Lord, out of the lowest dungeon.

٥٦ 56 فَسَمِعْتَ صَوْتِي. لَا تَصُمَّ أُذُنَيْكَ عَنْ صُرَاخِ اسْتِغَاثَتِي.

You heard my voice: close not your ears to my supplication.

٥٧ 57 اقْتَرَبْتَ حِينَ دَعَوْتُكَ إِذْ قُلْتَ: «لا تَخَفْ».

You drew near to my help: in the day wherein I called upon you you said to me, Fear not.

٥٨ 58 قَدْ دَافَعْتَ عَنْ دَعْوَايَ يَا رَبُّ، وَافْتَدَيْتَ حَيَاتِي.

RECHS. O Lord, you has pleaded the causes of my soul; you has redeemed my life.

٥٩ 59 أَنْتَ شَهِدْتَ مَا أَسَاءُوا بِهِ إِلَيَّ يَا رَبُّ، فَاقْضِ فِي دَعْوَايَ.

You have seen, O Lord, my troubles: you have judged my cause.

٦٠ 60 قَدْ رَأَيْتَ انْتِقَامَهُمْ كُلَّهُ وَسَائِرَ مُؤَامَرَاتِهِمْ عَلَيَّ.

You have seen all their vengeance, [you have looked] on all their devices against me.

٦١ 61 سَمِعْتَ تَعْيِيرَهُمْ يَا رَبُّ، وَجَمِيعَ مُؤَامَرَاتِهِمْ عَلَيَّ.

CHSEN. You have heard their reproach [and] all their devices against me;

٦٢ 62 وَسَمِعْتَ كَلامَ أَعْدَائِي وَتَدْبِيرَاتِهِمْ ضِدِّي الْيَوْمَ كُلَّهُ.

the lips of them that rose up against me, and their plots against me all the day;

٦٣ 63 رَاقِبْ جُلُوسَهُمْ وَقِيَامَهُمْ، فَقَدْ أَصْبَحْتُ أُهْجِيَةً لَهُمْ.

their sitting down and their rising up: look you upon their eyes.

٦٤ 64 جَازِهِمْ يَا رَبُّ بِمُقْتَضَى مَا جَنَتْهُ أَيْدِيهِمْ.

You will render them a recompense, O Lord, according to the works of their hands.

٦٥ 65 اجْعَلْ عَلَى قُلُوبِهِمْ غَشَاوَةً، وَلْتَكُنْ لَعْنَتُكَ عَلَيْهِمْ.

THAU. You will give them [as] a covering, the grief of my heart.

٦٦ 66 تَعَقَّبْهُمْ بِسُخْطٍ وَأَهْلِكْهُمْ مِنْ تَحْتِ سَمَاوَاتِكَ يَا رَبُّ.

You will persecute them in anger, and will consume them from under the heaven, O Lord.
