أيُّوب 4

١ 1 فَأَجَابَ أَلِيفَازُ التَّيْمَانِيُّ:

And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

٢ 2 «إِنْ جَازَفَ أَحَدٌ وَوَجَّهَ إِلَيْكَ كَلِمَةً فَهَلْ يَشُقُّ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْكَ؟ وَلَكِنْ مَنْ يَسْتَطِيعُ الامْتِنَاعَ عَنِ الْكَلامِ؟

If a word were essayed to thee, wouldest thou be grieved? But who can refrain from speaking?

٣ 3 لَكَمْ أَرْشَدْتَ كَثِيرِينَ وَشَدَّدْتَ أَيَادِيَ مُرْتَخِيَةً.

Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands;

٤ 4 وَلَكَمْ أَنْهَضَ كَلامُكَ الْعَاثِرَ، وَثَبَّتَّ الرُّكَبَ الْمُرْتَعِشَةَ!

Thy words have upholden him that was stumbling, and thou hast braced up the bending knees:

٥ 5 وَالآنَ إِذْ دَاهَمَكَ الْكَرْبُ اعْتَرَاكَ السَّأَمُ، وَإِذْ مَسَّكَ سَاوَرَكَ الرُّعْبُ.

But now it is come upon thee, and thou grievest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.

٦ 6 أَلَيْسَتْ تَقْوَاكَ هِيَ مُعْتَمَدُكَ، وَكَمَالُ طُرُقِكَ هُوَ رَجَاؤُكَ؟

Hath not thy piety been thy confidence, and the perfection of thy ways thy hope?

٧ 7 اذْكُرْ. هَلْ هَلَكَ أَحَدٌ وَهُوَ بَرِيءٌ؟ أَوْ أَيْنَ أُبِيدَ الصَّالِحُونَ؟

Remember, I pray thee, who that was innocent has perished? and where were the upright cut off?

٨ 8 بَلْ كَمَا شَاهَدْتَ فَإِنَّ الْحَارِثِينَ إِثْماً، وَالزَّارِعِينَ شَقَاوَةً، هُمْ يَحْصُدُونَهُمَا،

Even as I have seen, they that plough iniquity and sow mischief, reap the same.

٩ 9 وَبِنَسَمَةِ اللهِ يَفْنَوْنَ وَبِعَاصِفَةِ غَضَبِهِ يَهْلِكُونَ.

By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of his nostrils are they consumed.

١٠ 10 قَدْ يَزْأَرُ الأَسَدُ وَيُزَمْجِرُ اللَّيْثُ، وَلَكِنْ أَنْيَابُ الأَشْبَالِ تَهَشَّمَتْ.

The roar of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken;

١١ 11 يَهْلِكُ اللَّيْثُ لِتَعَذُّرِ وُجُودِ الْفَرِيسَةِ، وَتَتَشَتَّتُ أَشْبَالُ اللَّبُؤَةِ.

The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the whelps of the lioness are scattered.

١٢ 12 ذَاتَ مَرَّةٍ أُسِرَّ إِلَيَّ بِكَلِمَةٍ، فَتَلَقَّفَتْ أُذُنِي مِنْهَا هَمْساً

Now to me a word was secretly brought, and mine ear received a whisper thereof.

١٣ 13 فَفِي غَمْرَةِ الْهَوَاجِسِ، فِي رُؤَى اللَّيْلِ، عِنْدَمَا طَغَى السُّبَاتُ عَلَى النَّاسِ،

In thoughts from visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men: —

١٤ 14 انْتَابَنِي رُعْبٌ وَرَعْدَةٌ أَرْجَفَا عِظَامِي،

Fear came on me, and trembling, and made all my bones to shake;

١٥ 15 وَخَطَرَتْ رُوحٌ أَمَامَ وَجْهِي، فَاقْشَعَرَّ شَعْرُ جَسَدِي.

And a spirit passed before my face — the hair of my flesh stood up —

١٦ 16 ثُمَّ وَقَفَتْ، غَيْرَ أَنِّي لَمْ أَتَبَيَّنْ مَلامِحَهَا. تَمَاثَلَ لِي شَكْلٌ مَا، وَبَعْدَ صَمْتٍ سَمِعْتُ صَوْتاً مُنْخَفِضاً يَقُولُ:

It stood still; I could not discern the appearance thereof: a form was before mine eyes; I heard a slight murmur and a voice:

١٧ 17 أَيُمْكِنُ أَنْ يَكُونَ الإِنْسَانُ أَبَرَّ مِنَ اللهِ، أَمِ الرَّجُلُ أَطْهَرَ مِنْ خَالِقِهِ؟

Shall [mortal] man be more just than God? Shall a man be purer than his Maker?

١٨ 18 هَا إِنَّهُ لَا يَأْتَمِنُ عَبِيدَهُ، وَإِلَى مَلائِكَتِهِ يَنْسِبُ حَمَاقَةً،

Lo, he trusteth not his servants, and his angels he chargeth with folly:

١٩ 19 فَكَمْ بِالْحَرِيِّ الْمَخْلُوقُونَ مِنْ طِينٍ، الَّذِينَ أَسَاسُهُمْ فِي التُّرَابِ، وَيُسْحَقُونَ مِثْلَ الْعُثِّ؟

How much more them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed as the moth!

٢٠ 20 يَتَحَطَّمُونَ بَيْنَ صَبَاحٍ وَمَسَاءٍ، وَيَبِيدُونَ إِلَى الأَبَدِ مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يَنْتَبِهَ لَهُمْ أَحَدٌ.

From morning to evening are they smitten: without any heeding it, they perish for ever.

٢١ 21 أَلا تُنْتَزَعُ مِنهُمْ حِبَالُ خِيَامِهِمْ وَيَمُوتُون مِنْ غَيْرِ حِكْمَةٍ؟

Is not their tent-cord torn away in them? they die, and without wisdom.
