أيُّوب 13

١ 1 هَذَا جَمِيعُهُ شَهِدَتْهُ عَيْنَايَ وَسَمِعَتْهُ أُذُنَايَ وَفَهِمَتْهُ،

Lo, mine eye hath seen all [this], mine ear hath heard and understood it.

٢ 2 وَأَنَا أَعْرِفُ مَا تَعْرِفُونَهُ أَيْضاً، إِذْ لَسْتُ أَقَلَّ مِنْكُمْ فِطْنَةً.

What ye know, I know also: I am not inferior to you.

٣ 3 وَلَكِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُخَاطِبَ الْقَدِيرَ، وَأَوَدُّ أَنْ أُحَاجَّ اللهَ.

But I will speak to the Almighty, and will find pleasure in reasoning with God;

٤ 4 أَمَّا أَنْتُمْ فَمُنَافِقُونَ، وَكُلُّكُمْ أَطِبَّاءُ جَهَلَةٌ.

For ye indeed are forgers of lies, ye are all physicians of no value.

٥ 5 لَيْتَكُمْ تَلْتَزِمُونَ الصَّمْتَ، فَيُحْسَبَ لَكُمْ ذَلِكَ حِكْمَةً.

Oh that ye would be altogether silent! and it would be your wisdom.

٦ 6 أَنْصِتُوا الآنَ إِلَى حُجَّتِي وَأَصْغُوا إِلَى دَعْوَى شَفَتَيَّ

Hear now my defence, and hearken to the pleadings of my lips.

٧ 7 أَلإِرْضَاءِ اللهِ تَنْطِقُونَ بِالْكَذِبِ، وَهَلْ مِنْ أَجْلِهِ تَتَفَوَّهُونَ بِالْبُهْتَانِ؟

Will ye speak unrighteously for God? and for him speak deceit?

٨ 8 أَتُحَابُونَ اللهَ أَمْ تُدَافِعُونَ عَنْهُ؟

Will ye accept his person? will ye contend for God?

٩ 9 لَوْ فَحَصَكُمْ هَلْ يَجِدُ فِيكُمْ صَلاحاً؟ أَمْ تَخْدَعُونَهُ كَمَا تَخْدَعُونَ الْبَشَرَ؟

Will it be well if he should search you out? or as one mocketh at a man, will ye mock at him?

١٠ 10 إِنَّهُ حَتْماً يُوَبِّخُكُمْ إِنْ حَابَيْتُمْ أَحَداً خُفْيَةً.

He will certainly reprove you, if ye do secretly accept persons.

١١ 11 أَوَلا يُرْهِبُكُمْ جَلالُهُ وَيَطْغَى عَلَيْكُمْ رُعْبُهُ؟

Shall not his excellency terrify you? and his dread fall upon you?

١٢ 12 أَقْوَالُكُمْ أَمْثَالُ رَمَادٍ، وَحُصُونُكُمْ حُصُونٌ مِنْ طِينٍ.

Your memorable sayings are proverbs of ashes, your bulwarks are bulwarks of mire.

١٣ 13 اسْكُتُوا عَنِّي فَأَتَكَلَّمَ، وَلْيَحُلَّ بِي مَا يَحُلُّ!

Hold your peace from me, and I will speak, and let come on me what [will]!

١٤ 14 لِمَاذَا أَنْهَشُ لَحْمِي بِأَسْنَانِي وَأَضَعُ نَفْسِي فِي كَفِّي؟

Wherefore should I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand?

١٥ 15 فَهَا هُوَ حَتْماً يَقْضِي عَلَيَّ وَلا أَمَلَ لِي. وَمَعَ ذَلِكَ فَإِنِّي أَبْسُطُ حُجَّتِي لأُزَكِّيَ طَرِيقِي أَمَامَهُ.

Behold, if he slay me, yet would I trust in him; but I will defend mine own ways before him.

١٦ 16 لأَنَّ هَذَا سَبِيلُ خَلاصِي، إِذْ لَا يَمْثُلُ الْفَاجِرُ فِي حَضْرَتِهِ.

This also shall be my salvation, that a profane man shall not come before his face.

١٧ 17 أَرْهِفُوا السَّمْعَ لأَقْوَالِي، وَلْتَحْتَفِظْ مَسَامِعُكُمْ بِكَلِمَاتِي،

Hear attentively my speech and my declaration with your ears.

١٨ 18 فَهَا أَنَا قَدْ أَحْسَنْتُ إِعْدَادَ الدَّعْوَى، وَلابُدَّ أَنْ أَتَبَرَّرَ.

Behold now, I have ordered the cause; I know that I shall be justified.

١٩ 19 مَنِ الَّذِي يُحَاجُّنِي؟ عِنْدَئِذٍ أَصْمُتُ وَأَمُوتُ!

Who is he that contendeth with me? For if I were silent now, I should expire.

٢٠ 20 أَمْرَيْنِ أَطْلُبُ إِلَيْكَ أَنْ لَا تَفْعَلَهُمَا بِي، حَتَّى لَا أَخْتَفِيَ مِنْ حَضْرَتِكَ:

Only do not two things unto me; then will I not hide myself from thee.

٢١ 21 ارْفَعْ يَدَيْكَ عَنِّي وَلا تَدَعْ هَيْبَتَكَ تُفْزِعُنِي،

Withdraw thy hand far from me; and let not thy terror make me afraid:

٢٢ 22 ثُمَّ ادْعُ فَأُلَبِّيَ، أَوْدَعْنِي أَتَكَلَّمُ وَأَنْتَ تُجِيبُنِي.

Then call, and I will answer; or I will speak, and answer thou me.

٢٣ 23 كَمْ هِيَ آثَامِي وَخَطَايَايَ؟ أَطْلِعْنِي عَلَى ذَنْبِي وَمَعْصِيَتِي.

How many are mine iniquities and sins? Make me to know my transgression and my sin.

٢٤ 24 لِمَاذَا تَحْجُبُ وَجْهَكَ وَتُعَامِلُنِي مِثْلَ عَدُوٍّ لَكَ؟

Wherefore dost thou hide thy face, and countest me for thine enemy?

٢٥ 25 أَتُفْزِعُ وَرَقَةً مُتَطَايِرَةً وَتُطَارِدُ قَشّاً يَابِساً؟

Wilt thou terrify a driven leaf? and wilt thou pursue dry stubble?

٢٦ 26 فَأَنْتَ كَتَبْتَ عَلَيَّ أُمُوراً مُرَّةً، وَأَوْرَثْتَنِي آثَامَ صِبَايَ.

For thou writest bitter things against me, and makest me to possess the iniquities of my youth;

٢٧ 27 أَدْخَلْتَ رِجْلَيَّ فِي الْمِقْطَرَةِ، وَرَاقَبْتَ جَمِيعَ سُبُلِي، إِذْ خَطَّطْتَ عَلامَاتٍ عَلَى بَاطِنِ قَدَمَيَّ،

And thou puttest my feet in the stocks, and markest all my paths; thou settest a bound about the soles of my feet; —

٢٨ 28 فَأَنَا كَشَجَرَةٍ نَخَرَهَا السُّوسُ وَكَثَوْبٍ أَكَلَهُ الْعُثُّ.

One who, as a rotten thing consumeth, as a garment that the moth eateth.
