أفَسُس 5

١ 1 فَاقْتَدُوا إِذَنْ بِاللهِ كَأَوْلادٍ أَحِبَّاءَ،

Therefore be imitators of God, as His dear children.

٢ 2 وَاسْلُكُوا فِي الْمَحَبَّةِ عَلَى مِثَالِ الْمَسِيحِ الَّذِي أَحَبَّنَا وَبَذَلَ نَفْسَهُ لأَجْلِنَا تَقْدِمَةً وَذَبِيحَةً لِلهِ طَيِّبَةَ الرَّائِحَةِ.

And live and act lovingly, as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up to death on our behalf as an offering and sacrifice to God, yielding a fragrant odor.

٣ 3 أَمَّا الزِّنَى، وَكُلُّ نَجَاسَةٍ أَوْ شَهْوَةٍ نَهِمَةٍ، فَلا يُذْكَرْ بَيْنَكُمْ حَتَّى اسْمُهَا، كَمَا يَلِيقُ بِالْقِدِّيسِينَ.

But fornication and every kind of impurity, or covetousness, let them not even be mentioned among you, for they ought not to be named among God's people.

٤ 4 وَكَذَلِكَ الْبَذَاءَةُ وَالْكَلامُ السَّفِيهُ وَالْهَزْلُ، فَهِيَ غَيْرُ لائِقَةٍ. وَإِنَّمَا أَحْرَى بِكُمْ أَنْ تَلْهَجُوا بِالشُّكْرِ لِلهِ!

Avoid shameful and foolish talk and low jesting--they are all alike discreditable--and in place of these give thanks.

٥ 5 فَإِنَّكُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ هَذَا جَيِّداً: أَنَّ كُلَّ زَانٍ أَوْ نَجِسٍ أَوْ صَاحِبِ شَهْوَةٍ نَهِمَةٍ، مَا هُوَ إِلّا عَابِدُ أَصْنَامٍ لَيْسَ لَهُ مِيرَاثٌ فِي مَلَكُوتِ الْمَسِيحِ وَاللهِ.

For be well assured that no fornicator or immoral person and no money-grubber--or in other words idol-worshipper--has any share awaiting him in the Kingdom of Christ and of God.

٦ 6 لَا يَخْدَعْكُمْ أَحَدٌ بِكَلامٍ بَاطِلٍ! فَبِسَبَبِ هَذِهِ الأُمُورِ يَحِلُّ غَضَبُ اللهِ عَلَى أَبْنَاءِ الْعِصْيَانِ.

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for it is on account of these very sins that God's anger is coming upon the disobedient.

٧ 7 إِذَنْ، لَا تَكُونُوا شُرَكَاءَ لَهُمْ:

Therefore do not become sharers with them.

٨ 8 فَقَدْ كُنْتُمْ فِي الْمَاضِي ظَلاماً، وَلَكِنَّكُمُ الآنَ نُورٌ فِي الرَّبِّ. فَاسْلُكُوا سُلُوكَ أَوْلادِ النُّورِ.

There was a time when you were nothing but darkness. Now, as Christians, you are Light itself.

٩ 9 فَإِنَّ ثَمَرَ النُّورِ يَكُونُ فِي كُلِّ صَلاحٍ وَاسْتِقَامَةٍ وَحَقٍّ.

Live and act as sons of Light--for the effect of the Light is seen in every kind of goodness, uprightness and truth--

١٠ 10 هَكَذَا تَخْتَبِرُونَ الأُمُورَ الَّتِي تُرْضِي الرَّبَّ.

and learn in your own experiences what is fully pleasing to the Lord.

١١ 11 وَعَلَيْكُمْ أَلّا تَكْتَفُوا بِعَدَمِ الاشْتِرَاكِ فِي أَعْمَالِ الظَّلامِ الْعَقِيمَةِ، بَلْ بِالأَحْرَى أَنْ تَفْضَحُوهَا أَيْضاً.

Have nothing to do with the barren unprofitable deeds of darkness, but, instead of that, set your faces against them;

١٢ 12 فَالأُمُورُ الَّتِي يَفْعَلُونَهَا سِرّاً، قَبِيحٌ حَتَّى ذِكْرُهَا.

for the things which are done by these people in secret it is disgraceful even to speak of.

١٣ 13 إِلّا أَنَّ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ، إِذَا مَا فَضَحَ النُّورُ أَمْرَهُ، يَصِيرُ مَكْشُوفاً:

But everything can be tested by the light and thus be shown in its true colors; for whatever shines of itself is light.

١٤ 14 لأَنَّ الَّذِي يَكْشِفُ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ هُوَ النُّورُ. لِذَلِكَ يُقَالُ: «اسْتَيْقِظْ أَيُّهَا النَّائِمُ، وَقُمْ مِنْ بَيْنِ الأَمْوَاتِ، فَيُشْرِقَ عَلَيْكَ نُورُ الْمَسِيحِ!»

For this reason it is said, "Rise, sleeper; rise from among the dead, and Christ will shed light upon you."

١٥ 15 فَانْتَبِهُوا تَمَاماً إِذَنْ كَيْفَ تَسْلُكُونَ بِتَدْقِيقٍ، لَا سُلُوكَ الْجُهَلاءِ بَلْ سُلُوكَ الْعُقَلاءِ،

Therefore be very careful how you live and act. Let it not be as unwise men, but as wise.

١٦ 16 مُسْتَغِلِّينَ الْوَقْتَ أَحْسَنَ اسْتِغْلالٍ، لأَنَّ الأَيَّامَ شِرِّيرَةٌ.

Buy up your opportunities, for these are evil times.

١٧ 17 لِذَلِكَ لَا تَكُونُوا أَغْبِيَاءَ، بَلِ افْهَمُوا مَا هِيَ مَشِيئَةُ الرَّبِّ.

On this account do not prove yourselves wanting in sense, but try to understand what the Lord's will is.

١٨ 18 لَا تَسْكَرُوا بِالْخَمْرِ، فَفِيهَا الْخَلاعَةُ، وَإِنَّمَا امْتَلِئُوا بِالرُّوحِ،

Do not over-indulge in wine--a thing in which excess is so easy--

١٩ 19 مُحَدِّثِينَ بَعْضُكُمْ بَعْضاً بِمَزَامِيرَ وَتَسَابِيحَ وَأَنَاشِيدَ رُوحِيَّةٍ، مُرَنِّمِينَ وَمُرَتِّلِينَ بِقُلُوبِكُمْ لِلرَّبِّ؛

but drink deeply of God's Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and offer praise in your hearts to the Lord.

٢٠ 20 رَافِعِينَ الشُّكْرَ كُلَّ حِينٍ وَعَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ لِلهِ وَالآبِ، بِاسْمِ رَبِّنَا يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ؛

Always and for everything let your thanks to God the Father be presented in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

٢١ 21 خَاضِعِينَ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ فِي مَخَافَةِ الْمَسِيحِ.

and submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

٢٢ 22 أَيَّتُهَا الزَّوْجَاتُ، اخْضَعْنَ لأَزْوَاجِكُنَّ، كَمَا لِلرَّبِّ.

Married women, submit to your own husbands as if to the Lord;

٢٣ 23 فَإِنَّ الزَّوْجَ هُوَ رَأْسُ الزَّوْجَةِ كَمَا أَنَّ الْمَسِيحَ أَيْضاً هُوَ رَأْسُ الْكَنِيسَةِ (جَسَدِهِ)، وَهُوَ نَفْسُهُ مُخَلِّصُ الْجَسَدِ.

because a husband is the Head of his wife as Christ also is the Head of the Church, being indeed the Saviour of this His Body.

٢٤ 24 فَكَمَا أَنَّ الْكَنِيسَةَ قَدْ أُخْضِعَتْ لِلْمَسِيحِ، فَكَذلِكَ الزَّوْجَاتُ أَيْضاً لأَزْوَاجِهِنَّ، فِي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ.

And just as the Church submits to Christ, so also married women should be entirely submissive to their husbands.

٢٥ 25 أَيُّهَا الأَزْوَاجُ، أَحِبُّوا زَوْجَاتِكُمْ مِثْلَمَا أَحَبَّ الْمَسِيحُ الْكَنِيسَةَ وَبَذَلَ نَفْسَهُ لأَجْلِهَا،

Married men, love your wives, as Christ also loved the Church and gave Himself up to death for her;

٢٦ 26 لِكَيْ يُقَدِّسَهَا مُطَهِّراً إِيَّاهَا بِغَسْلِ الْمَاءِ، بِالْكَلِمَةِ،

in order to make her holy, cleansing her with the baptismal water by the word,

٢٧ 27 حَتَّى يَزُفَّهَا إِلَى نَفْسِهِ كَنِيسَةً بَهِيَّةً لَا يَشُوبُهَا عَيْبٌ أَوْ تَجَعُّدٌ أَوْ أَيَّةُ نَقِيصَةٍ مُشَابِهَةٍ بَلْ تَكُونُ مُقَدَّسَةً خَالِيَةً مِنَ الْعُيُوبِ.

that He might present the Church to Himself a glorious bride, without spot or wrinkle or any other defect, but to be holy and unblemished.

٢٨ 28 عَلَى هَذَا الْمِثَالِ يَجِبُ عَلَى الأَزْوَاجِ أَنْ يُحِبُّوا زَوْجَاتِهِمْ كَأَجْسَادِهِمْ. إِنَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّ زَوْجَتَهُ، يُحِبُّ نَفْسَهُ.

So too married men ought to love their wives as much as they love themselves. He who loves his wife loves himself.

٢٩ 29 فَلا أَحَدَ يُبْغِضُ جَسَدَهُ الْبَتَّةَ، بَلْ يُغَذِّيهِ وَيَعْتَنِي بِهِ، كَمَا يُعَامِلُ الْمَسِيحُ أَيْضاً الْكَنِيسَةَ.

For never yet has a man hated his own body. On the contrary he feeds and cherishes it, just as Christ feeds and cherishes the Church;

٣٠ 30 فَإِنَّنَا نَحْنُ أَعْضَاءُ جَسَدِهِ.

because we are, as it were, parts of His Body.

٣١ 31 لِذَلِكَ يَسْتَقِلُّ الزَّوْجُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَأُمِّهِ، وَيَتَّحِدُ بِزَوْجَتِهِ، فَيَصِيرُ الاثْنَانِ جَسَداً وَاحِداً.

"For this reason a man is to leave his father and his mother and be united to his wife, and the two shall be as one."

٣٢ 32 هَذَا السِّرُّ عَظِيمٌ وَلَكِنَّنِي أُشِيرُ بِهِ إِلَى الْمَسِيحِ وَالْكَنِيسَةِ!

That is a great truth hitherto kept secret: I mean the truth concerning Christ and the Church.

٣٣ 33 إِنَّمَا أَنْتُمْ أَيْضاً، كُلٌّ بِمُفْرَدِهِ، لِيُحِبْ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْكُمْ زَوْجَتَهُ كَنَفْسِهِ. وَأَمَّا الزَّوْجَةُ، فَعَلَيْهَا أَنْ تَهَابَ زَوْجَهَا.

Yet I insist that among you also, each man is to love his own wife as much as he loves himself, and let a married woman see to it that she treats her husband with respect.
