أَيُّوبَ 11

١ 1 فَأَجَابَ صُوفَرُ ٱلنَّعْمَاتِيُّ وَقَالَ:

And Zophar the Naamathite answereth and saith: —

٢ 2 «أَكَثْرَةُ ٱلْكَلَامِ لَا يُجَاوَبُ، أَمْ رَجُلٌ مِهْذَارٌ يَتَبَرَّرُ؟

Is a multitude of words not answered? And is a man of lips justified?

٣ 3 أَصَلَفُكَ يُفْحِمُ ٱلنَّاسَ، أَمْ تَلِخُّ وَلَيْسَ مَنْ يُخْزِيكَ؟

Thy devices make men keep silent, Thou scornest, and none is causing blushing!

٤ 4 إِذْ تَقُولُ: تَعْلِيمِي زَكِيٌّ، وَأَنَا بَارٌّ فِي عَيْنَيْكَ.

And thou sayest, 'Pure [is] my discourse, And clean I have been in Thine eyes.'

٥ 5 وَلَكِنْ يَا لَيْتَ ٱللهَ يَتَكَلَّمُ وَيَفْتَحُ شَفَتَيْهِ مَعَكَ،

And yet, O that God had spoken! And doth open His lips with thee.

٦ 6 وَيُعْلِنُ لَكَ خَفِيَّاتِ ٱلْحِكْمَةِ! إِنَّهَا مُضَاعَفَةُ ٱلْفَهْمِ، فَتَعْلَمَ أَنَّ ٱللهَ يُغْرِمُكَ بِأَقَلَّ مِنْ إِثْمِكَ.

And declare to thee secrets of wisdom, For counsel hath foldings. And know thou that God forgetteth for thee, [Some] of thine iniquity.

٧ 7 «أَإِلَى عُمْقِ ٱللهِ تَتَّصِلُ، أَمْ إِلَى نِهَايَةِ ٱلْقَدِيرِ تَنْتَهِي؟

By searching dost thou find out God? Unto perfection find out the Mighty One?

٨ 8 هُوَ أَعْلَى مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ، فَمَاذَا عَسَاكَ أَنْ تَفْعَلَ؟ أَعْمَقُ مِنَ ٱلْهَاوِيَةِ، فَمَاذَا تَدْرِي؟ (Sheol h7585)

Heights of the heavens! — what dost thou? Deeper than Sheol! — what knowest thou? (Sheol h7585)

٩ 9 أَطْوَلُ مِنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ طُولُهُ، وَأَعْرَضُ مِنَ ٱلْبَحْرِ.

Longer than earth [is] its measure, And broader than the sea.

١٠ 10 إِنْ بَطَشَ أَوْ أَغْلَقَ أَوْ جَمَّعَ، فَمَنْ يَرُدُّهُ؟

If He pass on, and shut up, and assemble, Who then dost reverse it?

١١ 11 لِأَنَّهُ هُوَ يَعْلَمُ أُنَاسَ ٱلسُّوءِ، وَيُبْصِرُ ٱلْإِثْمَ، فَهَلْ لَا يَنْتَبِهُ؟

For he hath known men of vanity, And He seeth iniquity, And one doth not consider [it]!

١٢ 12 أَمَّا ٱلرَّجُلُ فَفَارِغٌ عَدِيمُ ٱلْفَهْمِ، وَكَجَحْشِ ٱلْفَرَا يُولَدُ ٱلْإِنْسَانُ.

And empty man is bold, And the colt of a wild ass man is born.

١٣ 13 «إِنْ أَعْدَدْتَ أَنْتَ قَلْبَكَ، وَبَسَطْتَ إِلَيْهِ يَدَيْكَ.

If thou — thou hast prepared thy heart, And hast spread out unto Him thy hands,

١٤ 14 إِنْ أَبْعَدْتَ ٱلْإِثْمَ ٱلَّذِي فِي يَدِكَ، وَلَا يَسْكُنُ ٱلظُّلْمُ فِي خَيْمَتِكَ،

If iniquity [is] in thy hand, put it far off, And let not perverseness dwell in thy tents.

١٥ 15 حِينَئِذٍ تَرْفَعُ وَجْهَكَ بِلَا عَيْبٍ، وَتَكُونُ ثَابِتًا وَلَا تَخَافُ.

For then thou liftest up thy face from blemish, And thou hast been firm, and fearest not.

١٦ 16 لِأَنَّكَ تَنْسَى ٱلْمَشَقَّةَ. كَمِيَاهٍ عَبَرَتْ تَذْكُرُهَا.

For thou dost forget misery, As waters passed away thou rememberest.

١٧ 17 وَفَوْقَ ٱلظَّهِيرَةِ يَقُومُ حَظُّكَ. ٱلظَّلَامُ يَتَحَوَّلُ صَبَاحًا.

And above the noon doth age rise, Thou fliest — as the morning thou art.

١٨ 18 وَتَطْمَئِنُّ لِأَنَّهُ يُوجَدُ رَجَاءٌ. تَتَجَسَّسُ حَوْلَكَ وَتَضْطَجِعُ آمِنًا.

And thou hast trusted because their is hope, And searched — in confidence thou liest down,

١٩ 19 وَتَرْبِضُ وَلَيْسَ مَنْ يُزْعِجُ، وَيَتَضَرَّعُ إِلَى وَجْهِكَ كَثِيرُونَ.

And thou hast rested, And none is causing trembling, And many have entreated thy face;

٢٠ 20 أَمَّا عُيُونُ ٱلْأَشْرَارِ فَتَتْلَفُ، وَمَنَاصُهُمْ يَبِيدُ، وَرَجَاؤُهُمْ تَسْلِيمُ ٱلنَّفْسِ».

And the eyes of the wicked are consumed, And refuge hath perished from them, And their hope [is] a breathing out of soul!
