أَسْتِير 4

١ 1 وَلَمَّا عَلِمَ مُرْدَخَايُ كُلَّ مَا عُمِلَ، شَقَّ مُرْدَخَايُ ثِيَابَهُ وَلَبِسَ مِسْحًا بِرَمَادٍ وَخَرَجَ إِلَى وَسَطِ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ وَصَرَخَ صَرْخَةً عَظِيمَةً مُرَّةً،

But Mardochæus having perceived what was done, rent his garments, and put on sackcloth, and sprinkled dust upon himself; and having rushed forth through the open street of the city, he cried with a loud voice, A nation that has done no wrong is going to be destroyed.

٢ 2 وَجَاءَ إِلَى قُدَّامِ بَابِ ٱلْمَلِكِ، لِأَنَّهُ لَا يَدْخُلُ أَحَدٌ بَابَ ٱلْمَلِكِ وَهُوَ لَابِسٌ مِسْحًا.

And he came to the king’s gate, and stood; for it was not lawful for him to enter into the palace, wearing sackcloth and ashes.

٣ 3 وَفِي كُلِّ كُورَةٍ حَيْثُمَا وَصَلَ إِلَيْهَا أَمْرُ ٱلْمَلِكِ وَسُنَّتُهُ، كَانَتْ مَنَاحَةٌ عَظِيمَةٌ عِنْدَ ٱلْيَهُودِ، وَصَوْمٌ وَبُكَاءٌ وَنَحِيبٌ. وَٱنْفَرَشَ مِسْحٌ وَرَمَادٌ لِكَثِيرِينَ.

And in every province where the letters were published, [there was] crying and lamentation and great mourning on the part of the Jews: they spread for themselves sackcloth and ashes.

٤ 4 فَدَخَلَتْ جَوَارِي أَسْتِيرَ وَخُصْيَانُهَا وَأَخْبَرُوهَا، فَٱغْتَمَّتِ ٱلْمَلِكَةُ جِدًّا وَأَرْسَلَتْ ثِيَابًا لِإِلْبَاسِ مُرْدَخَايَ، وَلِأَجْلِ نَزْعِ مِسْحِهِ عَنْهُ، فَلَمْ يَقْبَلْ.

And the queen’s maids and chamberlains went in and told her: and when she had heard what was done, she was disturbed; and she sent to clothe Mardochæus, and take away his sackcloth; but he consented not.

٥ 5 فَدَعَتْ أَسْتِيرُ هَتَاخَ، وَاحِدًا مِنْ خِصْيَانِ ٱلْمَلِكِ ٱلَّذِي أَوْقَفَهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهَا، وَأَعْطَتْهُ وَصِيَّةً إِلَى مُرْدَخَايَ لِتَعْلَمَ مَاذَا وَلِمَاذَا.

So Esther called for her chamberlain Achrathæus, who waited upon her; and she sent to learn the truth from Mardochæus.

٦ 6 فَخَرَجَ هَتَاخُ إِلَى مُرْدَخَايَ إِلَى سَاحَةِ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ ٱلَّتِي أَمَامَ بَابِ ٱلْمَلِكِ.

٧ 7 فَأَخْبَرَهُ مُرْدَخَايُ بِكُلِّ مَا أَصَابَهُ، وَعَنْ مَبْلَغِ ٱلْفِضَّةِ ٱلَّذِي وَعَدَ هَامَانُ بِوَزْنِهِ لِخَزَائِنِ ٱلْمَلِكِ عَنِ ٱلْيَهُودِ لِإِبَادَتِهِمْ،

And Mardochæus shewed him what was done, and the promise which Aman had made the king of ten thousand talents [to be paid] into the treasury, that he might destroy the Jews.

٨ 8 وَأَعْطَاهُ صُورَةَ كِتَابَةِ ٱلْأَمْرِ ٱلَّذِي أُعْطِيَ فِي شُوشَنَ لِإِهْلَاكِهِمْ، لِكَيْ يُرِيَهَا لِأَسْتِيرَ، وَيُخْبِرَهَا وَيُوصِيَهَا أَنْ تَدْخُلَ إِلَى ٱلْمَلِكِ وَتَتَضَرَّعَ إِلَيْهِ وَتَطْلُبَ مِنْهُ لِأَجْلِ شَعْبِهَا.

Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to shew [it] unto Esther, and to declare [it] unto her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make supplication unto him, and to make request before him for her people.

٩ 9 فَأَتَى هَتَاخُ وَأَخْبَرَ أَسْتِيرَ بِكَلَامِ مُرْدَخَايَ.

So Achrathæus went in and told her all these words.

١٠ 10 فَكَلَّمَتْ أَسْتِيرُ هَتَاخَ وَأَعْطَتْهُ وَصِيَّةً إِلَى مُرْدَخَايَ:

And Esther said to Achrathæus, Go to Mardochæus, and say,

١١ 11 «إِنَّ كُلَّ عَبِيدِ ٱلْمَلِكِ وَشُعُوبِ بِلَادِ ٱلْمَلِكِ يَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ كُلَّ رَجُلٍ دَخَلَ أَوِ ٱمْرَأَةٍ إِلَى ٱلْمَلِكِ، إِلَى ٱلدَّارِ ٱلدَّاخِلِيَّةِ وَلَمْ يُدْعَ، فَشَرِيعَتُهُ وَاحِدَةٌ أَنْ يُقْتَلَ، إِلَّا ٱلَّذِي يَمُدُّ لَهُ ٱلْمَلِكُ قَضِيبَ ٱلذَّهَبِ فَإِنَّهُ يَحْيَا. وَأَنَا لَمْ أُدْعَ لِأَدْخُلَ إِلَى ٱلْمَلِكِ هَذِهِ ٱلثَّلَاثِينَ يَوْمًا».

All the nations of the empire know, that whoever, man or woman, shall go in to the king into the inner court uncalled, that person cannot live: only to whomsoever the king shall stretch out [his] golden sceptre, he shall live: and I have not been called to go in to the king, for these thirty days.

١٢ 12 فَأَخْبَرُوا مُرْدَخَايَ بِكَلَامِ أَسْتِيرَ.

And Achrathæus reported to Mardochæus all the words of Esther.

١٣ 13 فَقَالَ مُرْدَخَايُ أَنْ تُجَاوَبَ أَسْتِيرُ: «لَا تَفْتَكِرِي فِي نَفْسِكِ أَنَّكِ تَنْجِينَ فِي بَيْتِ ٱلْمَلِكِ دُونَ جَمِيعِ ٱلْيَهُودِ.

Then Mardochæus said to Achrathæus, Go, and say to her, Esther, say not to thyself that thou alone wilt escape in the kingdom, more than all the [other] Jews.

١٤ 14 لِأَنَّكِ إِنْ سَكَتِّ سُكُوتًا فِي هَذَا ٱلْوَقْتِ يَكُونُ ٱلْفَرَجُ وَٱلنَّجَاةُ لِلْيَهُودِ مِنْ مَكَانٍ آخَرَ، وَأَمَّا أَنْتِ وَبَيْتُ أَبِيكِ فَتَبِيدُونَ. وَمَنْ يَعْلَمُ إِنْ كُنْتِ لِوَقْتٍ مِثْلِ هَذَا وَصَلْتِ إِلَى ٱلْمُلْكِ؟».

For if thou shalt refuse to hearken on this occasion, help and protection will be to the Jews from another quarter; but thou and thy father’s house will perish: and who knows, if thou hast been made queen for this [very] occasion?

١٥ 15 فَقَالَتْ أَسْتِيرُ أَنْ يُجَاوَبَ مُرْدَخَايُ:

And Esther sent the [man] that came to her to Mardochæus, saying,

١٦ 16 «ٱذْهَبِ ٱجْمَعْ جَمِيعَ ٱلْيَهُودِ ٱلْمَوْجُودِينَ فِي شُوشَنَ وَصُومُوا مِنْ جِهَتِي وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا وَلَا تَشْرَبُوا ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا. وَأَنَا أَيْضًا وَجَوَارِيَّ نَصُومُ كَذَلِكَ. وَهَكَذَا أَدْخُلُ إِلَى ٱلْمَلِكِ خِلَافَ ٱلسُّنَّةِ. فَإِذَا هَلَكْتُ، هَلَكْتُ».

Go and assemble the Jews that are in Susa, and fast ye for me, and eat not and drink not for three days, night and day: and I also and my maidens will fast; and then I will go in to the king contrary to the law, even if I must die.

١٧ 17 فَٱنْصَرَفَ مُرْدَخَايُ وَعَمِلَ حَسَبَ كُلِّ مَا أَوْصَتْهُ بِهِ أَسْتِيرُ.

So Mardochaeus went and did all that Esther commanded him.
