آدَمُ، شِيتُ، أَنُوشُ، | ١ 1 |
[The first person God created was Adam]. Adam’s [son was] Seth. [Seth’s son was] Enosh. [Enosh’s son was] Kenan.
قِينَانُ، مَهْلَلْئِيلُ، يَارِدُ، | ٢ 2 |
[Kenan’s son was] Mahalalel. [Mahalalel’s son was] Jared. [Jared’s son was] Enoch.
أَخْنُوخُ، مَتُوشَالَحُ، لَامَكُ، | ٣ 3 |
[Enoch’s son was] Methuselah. [Methusalah’s son was] Lamech. [Lamech’s son was] Noah.
نُوحُ، سَامُ، حَامُ، يَافَثُ. | ٤ 4 |
[Noah’s sons were] Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
بَنُو يَافَثَ: جُومَرُ وَمَاجُوجُ وَمَادَايُ وَيَاوَانُ وَتُوبَالُ وَمَاشِكُ وَتِيرَاسُ. | ٥ 5 |
The sons (OR, descendants) of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
وَبَنُو جُومَرَ: أَشْكَنَازُ وَرِيفَاثُ وَتُوجَرْمَةُ. | ٦ 6 |
The sons (OR, descendants) of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
وَبَنُو يَاوَانَ: أَلِيشَةُ وَتَرْشِيشَةُ وَكِتِّيمُ وَدُودَانِيمُ. | ٧ 7 |
The descendants of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.
بَنُو حَامَ: كُوشُ وَمِصْرَايِمُ وَفُوطُ وَكَنْعَانُ. | ٨ 8 |
The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim (OR, Egypt), Put, and Canaan.
وَبَنُو كُوشَ: سَبَا وَحَوِيلَةُ وَسَبْتَا وَرَعَمَا وَسَبْتَكَا. وَبَنُو رَعَمَا: شَبَا وَدَدَانُ. | ٩ 9 |
The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons (OR, descendants) of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.
وَكُوشُ وَلَدَ نِمْرُودَ ٱلَّذِي ٱبْتَدَأَ يَكُونُ جَبَّارًا فِي ٱلْأَرْضِ. | ١٠ 10 |
Another descendant of Cush was Nimrod. When he grew up, he became a mighty warrior on the earth.
وَمِصْرَايِمُ وَلَدَ: لُودِيمَ وَعَنَامِيمَ وَلَهَابِيمَ وَنَفْتُوحِيمَ | ١١ 11 |
Mizraim (OR, Egypt) was the ancestor of the Lud people-group, the Anam people-group, the Lehab people-group, the Naphtuh people-group,
وَفَتْرُوسِيمَ وَكَسْلُوحِيمَ، ٱلَّذِينَ خَرَجَ مِنْهُمْ فِلِشْتِيمُ وَكَفْتُورِيمُ. | ١٢ 12 |
the Pathrus people-group, the Casluh people-group, and the Caphtor people-group. The people of [the] Philistia [region] were descended from the Casluh people-group.
وَكَنْعَانُ وَلَدَ: صِيدُونَ بِكْرَهُ، وَحِثًّا | ١٣ 13 |
Canaan’s first son was Sidon. He was also the ancestor of the Heth people-group,
وَٱلْيَبُوسِيَّ وَٱلْأَمُورِيَّ وَٱلْجِرْجَاشِيَّ | ١٤ 14 |
the Jebus people-group, the Amor people-group, the Girgash people-group,
وَٱلْحِوِّيَّ وَٱلْعَرْقِيَّ وَٱلسِّينِيَّ | ١٥ 15 |
the Hiv people-group, the Ark people-group, the Sin people-group,
وَٱلْأَرْوَادِيَّ وَٱلصَّمَّارِيَّ وَٱلْحَمَاثِيَّ. | ١٦ 16 |
the Arvad people-group, the Zemar people-group, and the Hamath people-group.
بَنُو سَامَ: عِيلَامُ وَأَشُّورُ وَأَرْفَكْشَادُ وَلُودُ وَأَرَامُ وَعُوصُ وَحُولُ وَجَاثَرُ وَمَاشِكُ. | ١٧ 17 |
The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. Aram’s sons were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.
وَأَرْفَكْشَادُ وَلَدَ شَالَحَ، وَشَالَحُ وَلَدَ عَابِرَ. | ١٨ 18 |
Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, who was the father of Eber.
وَلِعَابِرَ وُلِدَ ٱبْنَانِ ٱسْمُ ٱلْوَاحِدِ فَالَجُ، لِأَنَّ فِي أَيَّامِهِ قُسِمَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ. وَٱسْمُ أَخِيهِ يَقْطَانُ. | ١٩ 19 |
Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg [which sounds like the word that means ‘divided’] because during the time that he lived, [the people on] the earth were divided [into various language groups]. Peleg’s [younger] brother was Joktan.
وَيَقْطَانُ وَلَدَ: أَلْمُودَادَ وَشَالَفَ وَحَضَرْمَوْتَ وَيَارَحَ | ٢٠ 20 |
Joktan was the ancestor of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
وَهَدُورَامَ وَأُوزَالَ وَدِقْلَةَ | ٢١ 21 |
Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
وَعِيبَالَ وَأَبِيمَايِلَ وَشَبَا | ٢٢ 22 |
Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
وَأُوفِيرَ وَحَوِيلَةَ وَيُوبَابَ. كُلُّ هَؤُلَاءِ بَنُو يَقْطَانَ. | ٢٣ 23 |
Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab.
سَامُ، أَرْفَكْشَادُ، شَالَحُ، | ٢٤ 24 |
The descendants of Shem, [in order from him to Abraham], were Arphaxad, Shelah,
عَابِرُ، فَالَجُ، رَعُو، | ٢٥ 25 |
Eber, Peleg, Reu,
سَرُوجُ، نَاحُورُ، تَارَحُ، | ٢٦ 26 |
Serug, Nahor, Terah,
أَبْرَامُ، وَهُوَ إِبْراهِيمُ. | ٢٧ 27 |
and Abram, whose [name was later changed to] Abraham.
اِبْنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ: إِسْحَاقُ وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ. | ٢٨ 28 |
Abraham’s sons were Isaac and Ishmael.
هَذِهِ مَوَالِيدُهُمْ. بِكْرُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ: نَبَايُوتُ، وَقِيدَارُ وَأَدَبْئِيلُ وَمِبْسَامُ | ٢٩ 29 |
[The son of Abraham’s slave wife Hagar was Ishmael.] Ishmael’s [twelve] sons were Nebaioth, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
وَمِشْمَاعُ وَدُومَةُ وَمَسَّا وَحَدَدُ وَتَيْمَاءُ | ٣٠ 30 |
Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema,
وَيَطُورُ وَنَافِيشُ وَقِدْمَةُ. هَؤُلَاءِ هُمْ بَنُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ. | ٣١ 31 |
Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
وَأَمَّا بَنُو قَطُورَةَ سُرِّيَّةِ إِبْراهِيمَ، فَإِنَّهَا وَلَدَتْ: زِمْرَانَ وَيَقْشَانَ وَمَدَانَ وَمِدْيَانَ وَيِشْبَاقَ وَشُوحَا. وَٱبْنَا يَقْشَانَ: شَبَا وَدَدَانُ. | ٣٢ 32 |
[After]’s [wife Sarah died, he took another wife named] Keturah. The sons of Abraham and Keturah were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Jokshan’s sons were Sheba and Dedan.
وَبَنُو مِدْيَانَ: عَيْفَةُ وَعِفْرُ وَحَنُوكُ وَأَبِيدَاعُ وَأَلْدَعَةُ. فَكُلُّ هَؤُلَاءِ بَنُو قَطُورَةَ. | ٣٣ 33 |
Midian’s sons were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah.
وَوَلَدَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ إِسْحَاقَ. وَٱبْنَا إِسْحَاقَ: عِيسُو وَإِسْرَائِيلُ. | ٣٤ 34 |
The son of Abraham [and his wife Sarah] was Isaac, and Isaac’s sons were Esau and [Jacob, whose name was later changed to] Israel.
بَنُو عِيسُو: أَلِيفَازُ وَرَعُوئِيلُ وَيَعُوشُ وَيَعْلَامُ وَقُورَحُ. | ٣٥ 35 |
The sons of Esau were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.
بَنُو أَلِيفَازَ: تَيْمَانُ وَأُومَارُ وَصَفِي وَجَعْثَامُ وَقِنَازُ وَتِمْنَاعُ وَعَمَالِيقُ. | ٣٦ 36 |
The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho (OR, Zephi), Gatam, Kenaz, Timna, and Amalek.
بَنُو رَعُوئِيلَ: نَحَثُ وَزَارَحُ وَشَمَّةُ وَمِزَّةُ. | ٣٧ 37 |
Reuel’s sons were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.
وَبَنُو سَعِيرَ: لُوطَانُ وَشُوبَالُ وَصِبْعُونُ وَعَنَى وَدِيشُونُ وَإِيصَرُ وَدِيشَانُ. | ٣٨ 38 |
[Another descendant of Esau was Seir. His descendants lived in the Edom region]. Seir’s sons were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.
وَٱبْنَا لُوطَانَ: حُورِي وَهُومَامُ. وَأُخْتُ لُوطَانَ تِمْنَاعُ. | ٣٩ 39 |
Lotan’s sons were Hori and Homam, and Lotan’s sister was Timna.
بَنُو شُوبَالَ: عَلْيَانُ وَمَنَاحَةُ وَعِيبَالُ وَشَفِي وَأُونَامُ. وَٱبْنَا صِبْعُونَ: أَيَّةُ وَعَنَى. | ٤٠ 40 |
Shobal’s sons were Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. Zibeon’s sons were Aiah and Anah.
اِبْنُ عَنَى دِيشُونُ، وَبَنُو دِيشُونَ: حَمْرَانُ وَأَشْبَانُ وَيِثْرَانُ وَكَرَانُ. | ٤١ 41 |
Anah’s son was Dishon. 1 Dishon’s sons were Hemdan (OR, Hamran), Eshban, Ithran, and Keran.
بَنُو إِيصَرَ: بِلْهَانُ وَزَعْوَانُ وَيَعْقَانُ. وَٱبْنَا دِيشَانَ: عُوصُ وَأَرَانُ. | ٤٢ 42 |
Ezer’s sons were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan (OR, Jaakan). Dishan’s sons were Uz and Aran.
هَؤُلَاءِ هُمُ ٱلْمُلُوكُ ٱلَّذِينَ مَلَكُوا فِي أَرْضِ أَدُومَ قَبْلَمَا مَلَكَ مَلِكٌ لِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ: بَالِعُ بْنُ بَعُورَ. وَٱسْمُ مَدِينَتِهِ دِنْهَابَةُ. | ٤٣ 43 |
[These are the names of] the kings that ruled [the] Edom [region] before any kings ruled over Israel: Bela, the son of Beor, was king in Edom, and the name of the city [in which he lived] was Dinhabah.
وَمَاتَ بَالِعُ فَمَلَكَ مَكَانَهُ يُوبَابُ بْنُ زَارَحَ مِنْ بُصْرَةَ. | ٤٤ 44 |
When Bela died, Jobab, the son of Zerah from Bozrah [city], became the king.
وَمَاتَ يُوبَابُ فَمَلَكَ مَكَانَهُ حُوشَامُ مِنْ أَرْضِ ٱلتَّيْمَانِيِّ. | ٤٥ 45 |
When Jobab died, Husham became the king. He was from the region where the Teman people-group lived.
وَمَاتَ حُوشَامُ فَمَلَكَ مَكَانَهُ هَدَدُ بْنُ بَدَدَ ٱلَّذِي كَسَّرَ مِدْيَانَ فِي بِلَادِ مُوآبَ، وَٱسْمُ مَدِينَتِهِ عَوِيتُ. | ٤٦ 46 |
When Husham died, Hadad, the son of Bedad, became the king. He [ruled in] Avith city. Hadad’s [army] defeated [the army of the] Midian [people-group] in [the] Moab [region].
وَمَاتَ هَدَدُ فَمَلَكَ مَكَانَهُ سِمْلَةُ مِنْ مَسْرِيقَةَ. | ٤٧ 47 |
When Hadad died, Samlah became the king. He was from Masrekah [town].
وَمَاتَ سِمْلَةُ فَمَلَكَ مَكَانَهُ شَاوُلُ مِنْ رَحُوبُوتِ ٱلنَّهْرِ. | ٤٨ 48 |
When Samlah died, Shaul became the king. He was from Rehoboth [city] along the [Euphrates] river.
وَمَاتَ شَاوُلُ فَمَلَكَ مَكَانَهُ بَعْلُ حَانَانَ بْنُ عَكْبُورَ. | ٤٩ 49 |
When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan, the son of Achbor, became the king.
وَمَاتَ بَعْلُ حَانَانَ فَمَلَكَ مَكَانَهُ هَدَدُ، وَٱسْمُ مَدِينَتِهِ فَاعِي، وَٱسْمُ ٱمْرَأَتِهِ مَهِيطَبْئِيلُ بِنْتُ مَطْرِدَ بِنْتِ مَاءِ ذَهَبٍ. | ٥٠ 50 |
When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad became the king. He was from Pau city. His wife’s name was Mehetabel; she was the daughter of Matred and the granddaughter of Me-Zahab.
وَمَاتَ هَدَدُ. فَكَانَتْ أُمَرَاءُ أَدُومَ: أَمِيرُ تِمْنَاعَ، أَمِيرُ عَلْوَةَ، أَمِيرُ يَتِيتَ، | ٥١ 51 |
Then Hadad died. The leaders of the clans of the Edom people-group were Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,
أَمِيرُ أُهُولِيبَامَةَ، أَمِيرُ أَيْلَةَ، أَمِيرُ فِينُونَ، | ٥٢ 52 |
Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,
أَمِيرُ قِنَازَ، أَمِيرُ تَيْمَانَ، أَمِيرُ مِبْصَارَ، | ٥٣ 53 |
Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,
أَمِيرُ مَجْدِيئِيلَ، أَمِيرُ عِيرَامَ. هَؤُلَاءِ أُمَرَاءُ أَدُومَ. | ٥٤ 54 |
Magdiel, and Iram.
