< Matthew 3 >

1 Ní ọjọ́ wọ̀n-ọn-nì, Johanu onítẹ̀bọmi wá, ó ń wàásù ní aginjù Judea.
Now, in those days, came John the Immerser, proclaiming in the wilderness of Judaea;
2 Ó ń wí pé, “Ẹ ronúpìwàdà, nítorí ìjọba ọ̀run kù sí dẹ̀dẹ̀.”
saying, Repent ye, —for the kingdom of the heavens hath drawn near.
3 Èyí ni ẹni náà ti wòlíì Isaiah sọ̀rọ̀ nípa rẹ̀ pé, “Ohùn ẹni ti ń kígbe ní ijù, ‘Ẹ tún ọ̀nà Olúwa ṣe, ẹ ṣe ojú ọ̀nà rẹ̀ kí ó tọ́.’”
For, this, is he who was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying, A voice, of one crying aloud! In the wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord, straight, be making his paths.
4 Aṣọ Johanu náà sì jẹ́ ti irun ìbákasẹ, ó sì di àmùrè awọ sí ẹ̀gbẹ́ rẹ̀. Eṣú àti oyin ìgàn sì ni oúnjẹ rẹ̀.
But John, himself, had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins, —while, his food, was locusts and wild honey.
5 Àwọn ènìyàn jáde lọ sọ́dọ̀ rẹ̀ láti Jerusalẹmu àti gbogbo Judea àti àwọn ènìyàn láti gbogbo ìhà Jordani.
Then, were going forth unto him—Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the country round about the Jordan:
6 Wọ́n ń jẹ́wọ́ ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ wọn, a sì ń bamitiisi wọn ní ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ̀ ní odò Jordani.
and were being immersed in the Jordan river, by him, openly confessing their sins.
7 Ṣùgbọ́n nígbà tí ó rí ọ̀pọ̀ àwọn Farisi àti Sadusi tí wọ́n ń wá ṣe ìtẹ̀bọmi, ó wí fún wọn pé, “Ẹ̀yin ọmọ paramọ́lẹ̀! Ta ni ó kìlọ̀ fún yín pé kí ẹ́ sá kúrò nínú ìbínú tí ń bọ̀?
But, seeing, many of the Pharisees and Sadducees, coming unto his immersion, he said to them, —Broods of vipers! who suggested to you, to be fleeing from the coming wrath?
8 Ẹ so èso tí ó yẹ fún ìrònúpìwàdà.
Bring forth, therefore, fruit worthy of repentance;
9 Kí ẹ má sì ṣe rò nínú ara yin pé, ‘Àwa ní Abrahamu ní baba.’ Èmi wí fún yín, Ọlọ́run lè mu àwọn ọmọ jáde láti inú àwọn òkúta wọ̀nyí wá fún Abrahamu.
and think not to be saying within yourselves, —As our father, we have, Abraham; for, I say unto you, that God is able, out of these stones, to raise up children unto Abraham.
10 Nísinsin yìí, a ti fi àáké lè gbòǹgbò igi, àti pé gbogbo igi tí kò bá so èso rere ni a óò ge lulẹ̀ ti a ó sì wọ jù sínú iná.
Already also, the axe, unto the root of the trees, is being laid, —every tree, therefore, not bringing forth good fruit, is to be hewn down, and, into fire, to be cast.
11 “Èmi fi omi bamitiisi yín fún ìrònúpìwàdà. Ṣùgbọ́n lẹ́yìn mi ẹnìkan tí ó pọ̀jù mí lọ ń bọ̀, bàtà ẹni tí èmi kò tó gbé. Òun ni yóò fi Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́ àti iná bamitiisi yín.
I, indeed, am immersing you, in water, unto repentance, —but, he who, after me, cometh is, mightier than I, whose, sandals, I am not worthy to bear, he, will immerse you, in Holy Spirit and fire:
12 Ẹni ti àmúga ìpakà rẹ̀ ń bẹ ní ọwọ́ rẹ̀, yóò gbá ilẹ̀ ìpakà rẹ̀, yóò kó alikama rẹ̀ sínú àká, ṣùgbọ́n ìyàngbò ni yóò fi iná àjóòkú sun.”
Whose fan is in his hand, and he will clear out his threshing-floor, —and will gather his wheat into the granary, but, the chaff, will he burn up with fire unquenchable.
13 Nígbà náà ni Jesu ti Galili wá sí odò Jordani kí Johanu bá à lè ṣe ìtẹ̀bọmi fún un.
Then, cometh Jesus, from Galilee to the Jordan, unto John, —to be immersed by him.
14 Ṣùgbọ́n Johanu kò fẹ́ ṣe ìtẹ̀bọmi fún un, ó wí pé, “Ìwọ ni ìbá bamitiisi fún mi, ìwọ sì tọ̀ mí wá?”
But, he, would have hindered him, saying—I, have, need, by thee, to be immersed, —and dost, thou, come unto me?
15 Jesu sì dáhùn pé, “Jọ̀wọ́ rẹ̀ bẹ́ẹ̀ náà, nítorí bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ó yẹ fún wa láti mú gbogbo òdodo ṣẹ.” Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni Johanu gbà, ó sì ṣe ìtẹ̀bọmi fún un.
But Jesus answering, said unto him, Suffer [me] even now, —for, thus, it becometh us, to fulfil, all righteousness; then, he suffered him.
16 Bí ó si tí ṣe ìtẹ̀bọmi fún Jesu tán, Ó jáde láti inú omi. Ní àkókò náà ọ̀run ṣí sílẹ̀ fún un, Ó sì rí Ẹ̀mí Ọlọ́run ń sọ̀kalẹ̀ bí àdàbà, ó sì bà lé e.
And Jesus, having been immersed, straightway, went up from the water, —and lo! the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God, descending like a dove coming upon him;
17 Ohùn kan láti ọ̀run wá sì wí pé, “Èyí sì ni àyànfẹ́ ọmọ mi, ẹni tí inú mi dùn sí gidigidi.”
and lo! a voice out of the heavens, —saying, This, is my Son, the Beloved, in whom I delight.
