< Joshua 8 >
1 Nígbà náà ni Olúwa sọ fún Joṣua pé, “Má ṣe bẹ̀rù, kí àyà kí ó má ṣe fò ọ́. Kó gbogbo àwọn ọmọ-ogun pẹ̀lú rẹ, kí ẹ gòkè lọ gbógun ti Ai. Nítorí mo ti fi ọba Ai, àwọn ènìyàn rẹ̀, ìlú u rẹ̀ àti ilẹ̀ ẹ rẹ̀ lé ọ lọ́wọ́.
The LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid, neither be dismayed. Take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai. Look, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, with his people, his city, and his land.
2 Ìwọ yóò sì ṣe sí Ai àti ọba rẹ̀ gẹ́gẹ́ bí ìwọ ti ṣe sí Jeriko àti ọba rẹ̀, ohun ìkógun wọn àti ohun ọ̀sìn wọn ni kí ẹ̀yin mú fún ara yín. Rán ènìyàn kí wọ́n ba sí ẹ̀yìn ìlú náà.”
You shall do to Ai and her king as you did to Jericho and her king, except its spoil and its livestock, you shall take for a plunder for yourselves. Set an ambush for the city behind it."
3 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ní Joṣua àti gbogbo àwọn ọmọ-ogun jáde lọ láti dojúkọ Ai. Ó sì yan ẹgbàá mẹ́ẹ̀ẹ́dógún àwọn ọkùnrin ogun rẹ̀ ti ó yakin, ó sì rán wọn lọ ní òru.
So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai. Joshua chose thirty thousand men, the mighty men of valor, and sent them out by night.
4 Pẹ̀lú àwọn àṣẹ wọ̀nyí: “Ẹ fi etí sílẹ̀ dáradára. Ẹ ba sí ẹ̀yìn ìlú náà. Ẹ má ṣe jìnnà sí i púpọ̀. Kí gbogbo yín wà ní ìmúrasílẹ̀.
He commanded them, saying, "Look, you shall lie in ambush against the city, behind the city. Do not go very far from the city, but all of you be ready.
5 Èmi àti gbogbo àwọn tí ó wà pẹ̀lú mi yóò súnmọ́ ìlú náà, nígbà tí àwọn ọkùnrin náà bá jáde sí wa, gẹ́gẹ́ bí wọ́n ti ṣe ní ìṣáájú, àwa yóò sì sá kúrò níwájú u wọn.
I, and all the people who are with me, will approach to the city. It shall happen, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them.
6 Wọn yóò sì lépa wa títí àwa ó fi tàn wọ́n jáde kúrò ní ìlú náà, nítorí tí wọn yóò wí pé, wọ́n ń sálọ kúrò ní ọ̀dọ̀ wa gẹ́gẹ́ bí wọ́n tí ṣe ní ìṣáájú. Nítorí náà bí a bá sá kúrò fún wọn,
They will come out after us, until we have drawn them away from the city; for they will say, 'They flee before us, like the first time.' So we will flee before them,
7 ẹ̀yin yóò dìde kúrò ní ibùba, ẹ ó sì gba ìlú náà. Olúwa Ọlọ́run yín yóò sì fi lé e yín lọ́wọ́.
and you shall rise up from the ambush, and take possession of the city; for the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand.
8 Nígbà tí ẹ bá ti gba ìlú náà, kí ẹ sì ti iná bọ̀ ọ́. Kí ẹ ṣe ohun tí Olúwa pàṣẹ. Mo ti fi àṣẹ fún un yín ná.”
It shall be, when you have seized on the city, that you shall set the city on fire. You shall do this according to the word of the LORD. Look, I have commanded you."
9 Nígbà náà ni Joṣua rán wọn lọ. Wọ́n sì lọ sí ibùba, wọ́n sì sùn ní àárín Beteli àti Ai, ní ìwọ̀-oòrùn Ai. Ṣùgbọ́n Joṣua wá dúró pẹ̀lú àwọn ènìyàn ní òru ọjọ́ náà.
Joshua sent them out; and they went to set up the ambush, and stayed between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai; but Joshua stayed among the people that night.
10 Ní kùtùkùtù òwúrọ̀ ọjọ́ kejì Joṣua kó àwọn ọmọ-ogun rẹ̀, òun àti àwọn olórí Israẹli, wọ́n wọ́de ogun lọ sí Ai.
Joshua rose up early in the morning, mustered the people, and went up, he and the elders, before the people to Ai.
11 Gbogbo àwọn ọmọ-ogun tí ó wà pẹ̀lú u rẹ̀ sì gòkè lọ, wọ́n sì súnmọ́ tòsí ìlú náà, wọ́n sì dé iwájú u rẹ̀. Wọ́n sì pàgọ́ ní ìhà àríwá Ai. Àfonífojì sì wà ní agbede-méjì wọn àti ìlú náà.
All the people, even the men of war who were with him, went up, and drew near, and came before the city, and camped on the north side of Ai. Now there was a valley between him and Ai.
12 Joṣua sì ti fi bí ẹgbẹ̀rún márùn-ún ọmọ-ogun pamọ́ sí àárín Beteli àti Ai, sí ìwọ̀-oòrùn ìlú náà.
He took about five thousand men, and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.
13 Wọ́n sì yan àwọn ọmọ-ogun sí ipò wọn, gbogbo àwọn tí ó wà ní ibùdó lọ sí àríwá ìlú náà àti àwọn tí ó sá pamọ́ sí ìwọ̀-oòrùn rẹ̀. Ní òru ọjọ́ náà Joṣua lọ sí àfonífojì.
So they set the people, even all the army who was on the north of the city, and their ambush on the west of the city; and Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.
14 Nígbà tí ọba Ai rí èyí, òun àti gbogbo ọkùnrin ìlú náà yára jáde ní òwúrọ̀ kùtùkùtù láti pàdé ogun Israẹli ní pẹ̀tẹ́lẹ̀ aginjù. Ṣùgbọ́n kò mọ̀ pé àwọn kan wà ní ibùba ní ẹ̀yìn ìlú náà.
And it happened, when the king of Ai saw it, that he hurried and rose up early, and the men of the city went out to engage them directly in battle, he and all his people, to the meeting place in front of the Arabah; but he did not know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.
15 Joṣua àti gbogbo àwọn Israẹli sì ṣe bí ẹni tí a lé padà níwájú wọn, wọ́n sì sá gba ọ̀nà aginjù.
Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
16 A sì pe gbogbo àwọn ọkùnrin Ai jọ láti lépa wọn, wọ́n sì lépa Joṣua títí wọ́n fi tàn wọ́n jáde nínú ìlú náà.
All the people who were in the city were called together to pursue after them. They pursued Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.
17 Kò sì ku ọkùnrin kan ní Ai tàbí Beteli tí kò tẹ̀lé Israẹli. Wọ́n sì fi ìlẹ̀kùn ibodè ìlú náà sílẹ̀ ní ṣíṣí, wọ́n sì ń lépa àwọn ará Israẹli.
There was not a man left in Ai or Beth El who did not go out after Israel. They left the city open, and pursued Israel.
18 Nígbà náà ni Olúwa sọ fún Joṣua pé, “Na ọ̀kọ̀ tí ó wà lọ́wọ́ rẹ sí Ai, nítorí tí èmi yóò fi ìlú náà lé ọ ní ọwọ́.” Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni Joṣua sì na ọ̀kọ̀ ọwọ́ rẹ̀ sí Ai.
The LORD said to Joshua, "Stretch out the javelin that is in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand." Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city.
19 Bí ó ti ṣe èyí tán, àwọn ọkùnrin tí ó ba sì dìde kánkán kúrò ní ipò wọn, wọ́n sáré síwájú. Wọn wọ ìlú náà, wọ́n gbà á, wọ́n sì yára ti iná bọ̀ ọ́.
The ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand, and entered into the city, and took it. They hurried and set the city on fire.
20 Àwọn ọkùnrin Ai bojú wo ẹ̀yìn, wọ́n rí èéfín ìlú náà ń gòkè lọ sí ọ̀run, ṣùgbọ́n wọn kò rí, ààyè láti sá àsálà lọ sí ibìkan kan, nítorí tí àwọn ará Israẹli tí wọ́n tí ń sálọ sí aginjù ti yípadà sí àwọn tí ń lépa wọn.
When the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and look, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way. The people who fled to the wilderness turned back on the pursuers.
21 Nígbà tí Joṣua àti gbogbo àwọn ará Israẹli rí i pé àwọn tí ó bá ti gba ìlú náà, tí èéfín ìlú náà sì ń gòkè, wọ́n yí padà wọ́n sì kọlu àwọn ọkùnrin Ai.
When Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and killed the men of Ai.
22 Àwọn ọmọ-ogun tí ó ba náà sì yípadà sí wọn láti inú ìlú náà, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni wọ́n wà ní agbede-méjì àwọn ará Israẹli ní ìhà méjèèjì. Israẹli sì pa wọ́n, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni wọn kò sì jẹ́ kí ọ̀kan kí ó yè tàbí kí ó sálọ nínú wọn.
The others came out of the city against them, so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side. They struck them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.
23 Ṣùgbọ́n wọ́n mú ọba Ai láààyè, wọ́n sì mu un tọ Joṣua wá.
They captured the king of Ai alive, and brought him to Joshua.
24 Nígbà tí Israẹli parí pípa gbogbo àwọn ìlú Ai ní pápá àti ní aginjù ní ibi tí wọ́n ti lépa wọn lọ, tí gbogbo wọ́n sì ti ojú idà ṣubú, tí a fi pa gbogbo wọn tan, gbogbo àwọn Israẹli sì padà sí Ai, wọ́n sì fi ojú idà kọlù ú.
And it came to pass when Israel had made an end of killing all the inhabitants of Ai in the plains, and on the mountain on the slope, where they pursued them, and they had all fallen by the edge of the sword until they were destroyed, then all Israel returned to Ai and struck it with the edge of the sword.
25 Ẹgbàá mẹ́fà ọkùnrin àti obìnrin ni ó kú ní ọjọ́ náà—gbogbo wọn jẹ́ àwọn ènìyàn Ai.
All that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.
26 Nítorí tí Joṣua kò fa ọwọ́ rẹ̀ tí ó di ọ̀kọ̀ mú sí ẹ̀yìn, títí ó fi pa gbogbo àwọn tí ń gbé ìlú Ai run.
For Joshua did not draw back his hand, with which he stretched out the javelin, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
27 Ṣùgbọ́n Israẹli kó ẹran ọ̀sìn àti ìkógun ti ìlú yìí fún ara wọn, gẹ́gẹ́ bí Olúwa ti pàṣẹ fún Joṣua.
Only the livestock and the spoil of that city Israel took for prey to themselves, according to the word of the LORD which he commanded Joshua.
28 Joṣua sì jó Ai, ó sì sọ ọ́ di ààtàn, àní ahoro di òní yìí.
So Joshua burnt Ai, and made it a heap forever, even a desolation, to this day.
29 Ó sì gbé ọba Ai kọ́ orí igi, ó sì fi kalẹ̀ síbẹ̀ títí di ìrọ̀lẹ́. Bí oòrùn sì ti wọ̀ ni Joṣua pàṣẹ fún wọn láti sọ òkú rẹ̀ kalẹ̀ kúrò ní orí igi, kí wọn sì wọ́ ọ jù sí àtiwọ ẹnu ibodè ìlú náà. Wọ́n sì kó òkìtì òkúta ńlá lé e ní orí, èyí tí ó wà títí di òní yìí.
He hanged the king of Ai on a tree until the evening, and at the sundown Joshua commanded, and they took his body down from the tree, and threw it at the entrance of the gate of the city, and raised a great heap of stones on it that remains to this day.
30 Nígbà náà ni Joṣua mọ pẹpẹ kan fún Olúwa Ọlọ́run Israẹli, ní òkè Ebali,
Then Joshua built an altar to the LORD, the God of Israel, on Mount Ebal,
31 gẹ́gẹ́ bí Mose ìránṣẹ́ Olúwa ti pàṣẹ fún àwọn ọmọ Israẹli. Ó sì kọ́ ọ́ gẹ́gẹ́ bí a ti kọ́ nínú ìwé òfin Mose, pẹpẹ odindi òkúta, èyí tí ẹnìkan kò fi ohun èlò irin kàn rí. Wọ́n sì rú ọrẹ ẹbọ sísun àti ọrẹ àlàáfíà ní orí rẹ̀ sí Olúwa.
as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, "an altar of uncut stones, on which no man has touched with an iron tool." They offered burnt offerings on it to the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.
32 Níbẹ̀, ní ojú àwọn ará Israẹli, Joṣua sì ṣe àdàkọ òfin Mose èyí tí ó ti kọ sí ara òkúta náà.
He wrote there on the stones a copy of the Law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.
33 Gbogbo Israẹli, àjèjì àti ọmọ ìlú, pẹ̀lú àwọn àgbàgbà, olórí àti onídàájọ́ dúró ní ẹ̀gbẹ́ méjèèjì àpótí ẹ̀rí Olúwa tí ó kọjú sí àwọn àlùfáà tí ó rù ú, tí wọ́n jẹ́ ọmọ Lefi. Ìdajì àwọn ènìyàn náà dúró ní òkè Gerisimu, àwọn ìdajì si dúró ni òkè Ebali, gẹ́gẹ́ bí Mose ìránṣẹ́ Olúwa ti pàṣẹ rí, pé kí wọn súre fún àwọn ènìyàn Israẹli.
All Israel, and their elders and officers, and their judges, stood on this side of the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, who carried the ark of the LORD's covenant, the foreigner as well as the native; half of them in front of Mount Gerizim, and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded at the first, that they should bless the children of Israel.
34 Lẹ́yìn èyí, Joṣua sì ka gbogbo ọ̀rọ̀ inú òfin, ìbùkún àti ègún, gẹ́gẹ́ bí a ti kọ ọ́ nínú ìwé òfin.
Afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the book of the law.
35 Kò sí ọ̀rọ̀ kan nínú gbogbo èyí tí Mose pàṣẹ tí Joṣua kò kà ní iwájú gbogbo àjọ Israẹli, títí fi kan àwọn obìnrin àti àwọn ọmọ wọn, àti àwọn àjèjì tí ń gbé ní àárín wọn.
There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel, with the women, the little ones, and the foreigners who were among them.
